Worst text reconciliation app 1/5
Dose not work .. takes photos and dose not recognize text or anything
I keep trying others and keep coming back to Office Lens 4/5
Not being a Microsoft fan I keep trying other scanning apps in hopes of shifting. For better or for worse, I download and use other apps for a little while, get fed up with their quirks, and reinstall Office Lens. It’s solid and they actually keep improving it (more than can be said for way too many apps). It’s become very smart about document borders and provides far more output options than most (into photos, pdf, mail, etc, etc). All in all, the most useful doc scanner app yet.
Mediocre, crashes every time 2/5
Used this for years because it has some good features. Problems include frequent crashes during file save and lack of options and defaults for users.
Add option to scan to B/W 1 1/5
By Alexander Michel
This is ridiculous. By far the most sophisticated border detection tech of all scanning apps, but you don’t let me use black and white without selecting all the pages MANUALLY?!?!?!
PDFs no longer work 2/5
I used to love this app, but scanning documents to PDF does not work anymore. I found this out the hard way when I tried to scan in my final exam for school. I had to ask the prof for extra time to go find a scanner instead. I trusted this app to work and it just let me down. This is a month later and the issue still has not been fixed. I'm sad to let it go, but it looks like I have no choice.
Keep it simple stupid.
Microsoft seems to love software bloat, even after three decades.
Their app is extremely useful, and I hope they don’t goof it up by adding more features that you have to work to ignore.
It would be great if they worked on getting trapezoid pieces of paper to easily look rectilinear.
Can’t upload to OneDrive! 1/5
This type of app should make a tedious, frustrating job easier. Office Lens makes it more tedious and more frustrating. Since first installing the app I was always on edge if I will be able to upload a document with dozens of pages. It randomly asks me to sign in again (even when I am already signed in to multiple Microsoft apps on the same device).
Right now I am stuck in a loop where it prompts me to sign in every time I try to upload this document to One Drive, and this is it for me. I am not scanning another 10 pages if I am not sure that I will be able to save them anywhere as a pdf document. This is awfull.
I want to love this app but 3/5
By The Alpinist Frog
I want to love this app, but Evernote’s Scannable is just better at scanning. What makes Lens great is the integration with Office. I kinda hope Microsoft just buys Scannable.
Incredibly Unreliable Tool 1/5
By The frosty guy
If you are looking for a tool to help you crop pictures, then this should work fine, but past that it falls apart. For one, when used as a tool to submit files to other apps, which is especially relevant to a college student like myself, it has significant troubles. Often the system will repeatedly fail to submit files to the proper location, or even submit files to the wrong location entirely for seemingly no reason. This causes much confusion, especially when multiple files need submitting to multiple areas, and this is the tip of the iceberg with software issues. Honestly, you should expect more from a company as large as Microsoft.
Genuis Scan is much better 2/5
This app is quite clunky and seems outdated compared to other scanning apps available. Lacks important features like any kind of text enhancement.
Terrible update 1/5
I used to love office lens, but the new update is terrible. I hate the manual crop feature that it now goes to automatically after I take a picture. And the text function is gone. I now have to save the picture to my files and then go in to my photos and text the picture or email it. It used to have the function to share to text or email apps, or save to photos. I’ll be looking for a new app.
Running into a Snag 3/5
By Diarrhea Madman
After installing the app on my iPhone, I did a test scan before scanning the page I wanted to edit using Word. Upon clicking on “done” I was prompted to choose where I’d like to save the file. I choose OneDrive.
I was then prompted to sign into OneDrive and did so successfully. I also created a new folder to save my file to. So far so good.
Next, when I clicked on “save” there was no response or acknowledgement of any kind-no movement! Not sure if anything took place, I decided to sign into my OneDrive account on my laptop and was happy to discover that the file was there. Thinking that I could live with the minor flaw, I proceeded to scan the actual page I needed to edit.
That time, upon attempting to save the file to OneDrive, I get prompted repeatedly to sign into my Microsoft account. What seemed as a promising app initially now appears unusable.
Seeing that the app has so many positive reviews, I am open to the issue being on my end but not sure what. I will uninstall and reinstall it to see if that fixes it.
Can’t email anymore 1/5
It is frustrating that you cannot email your scanned documents with the new update. I will be no longer using this app.
Microsoft Corporation Is Retarded 1/5
I don’t care what this is, the app. All I care about is hating on Microsoft. Maybe they don’t make things, but when something is made, they infect it with Microsoft and then make it crappy and stupid. I once had Minecraft on my PC. Always have owned it, until I wanted to play it. Then it told me to buy it, AGAIN, for 30 more dollars. Then I redone loaded the new Modern Warfare, it originally costed 100$ or 60$ or something like that. To me, that’s a lot of money, same with 30$. I’m only - what? Thirteen. I got onto the new Modern Warfare after having to reinstall it 3 times because I thought it was glitched, then it said I could only play the stupid game mode - Warzone. So if you want to kill Microsoft with me before it makes you re-buy all of your games, then join me, we must eliminate and terminate Microsoft. For the better.
Pdf issues 1/5
When i scan it as a photo it works fine but if i try to scan it and save it as a pdf the app crashes & continues to crash every time i open it up until i delete and reinstall it.
Not a fan 2/5
I generally love Microsoft software. This app, however, is not very good. It takes too long to scan a simple single page document and it frequently failed to capture the entire page. Tried a couple times over the past year. Deleted a couple times.
Useless best as I can tell 1/5
Trying to scan distinct paragraph on a page. Takes a picture. That’s it. Worthless for my purposes.
File Size Too Big 2/5
I’ll see if I can find a setting, but Lens treats my PDF scans like they are photos. No. The app should recognize that I’m scanning documents. This is irritating. File size is important for multiple reasons—namely: email capacity and the fossil fuel emissions related to unnecessary file storage and movement. Just bc human beings can do something (like store endless amounts of data) doesn’t mean we want to
So confuzing 1/5
Trying to find wherever it saved to from another app is really hard. Trying to use it for school where they ask for the work from math tests within 10 minutes of finishing and it legit takes me like 20 minutes to try to submit my work just from trying to find where it was saved. Should NOT be this complicated.
Pictures get stuck transferring them. 1/5
I’m updating my review but staying with one star. There was an issue where the option to create a text box was disappearing but it has been resolved. The issue I still have, which is more concerning, is that some pictures get stuck in the “transferring” state when trying to save them to OneDrive. You’d expect this to be the most flawless option, since I’m keeping the image in the Microsoft ecosystem. But no, after taking a bunch of inspection photos and uploading them to my OneDrive, I go back to the office to find a few of the thumbnails still showing the “transferring” symbol. In this state you can’t view the picture or re-try. Force close the app, reboot the phone, nothing happens. I left them alone in the state for days, and nothing happened. The only option available was to delete the image. Do I call the customer back and ask them to tear apart their machine again so I can grab the pictures I need? I’m sure if I tell them the Microsoft software I was using is buggy, they’ll happily stop production and take their machine down again for me...
Works well for my college needs 5/5
I have transitioned to online school this quarter and one of my classes needs daily homework and notes turned in in PDF form. I can easily take a picture of my page and export as a PDF file to my onedrive account I already have for school. Since it is automatically on my computer turning in the assignments is then super easy. Also, I trust this app more than the other ones which seem pretty sketchy to me and haven’t worked well for me in the past. Overall, it works well for this weird transition to online and does exactly what I need it to do.
Forces me to login to one drive every time 1/5
Every time I try to upload something to one drive it forces me to log in every time despite already linking my account. Ruins an otherwise perfectly good app
Used to be great 1/5
Pdf option is gone??? Is it because of dark mode??
Edit: I have an iphone XS running iOS 13.4. The pdf option is gone
Possibly scam 1/5
I downloaded the app and just a few minutes later it kicked me out and every time I tried to go back in it would kick me out again so I deleted the app possibly a virus of some sort don’t download
Great APP 5/5
From the first item I scanned, I knew this would be a game changer for me. I have been using this for a couple years now and never had an issue.
Sub par app thats keeps crashing 1/5
Super disappointed, is this the best microsoft can do?
Current version is broken 1/5
Most recent version of the app (since feb 28 2020) is completely broken and crashes upon opening. Attempted reinstalling, clearing cache, all to no avail
Used to be awesome 3/5
Not anymore after iOS 13 update and Microsoft hasn’t made the changes necessary to retain the expected UX.
1. Something about views displaying modally is causing problems. Now after I email a document, the last captured document is still shown on screen. Closing and opening the app doesn’t clear it. Hitting done again crashes the app.
2. Half of the time when I try to manually crop the image, the user defined edges just wouldn’t save.
Scans Always Angled 1/5
Every scan I take shows up perfect in the preview. Then when I look at the exported pdf it shows up skewed to the side and cut off. Same pages every time out of the 7 one or two will be messed up. Getting sick of it.
Won’t load to one drive 1/5
When I scan from office lens, I can no longer load to one drive. I get message unable to upload.
Really? Typical Microsoft.
NOT As Clean!!! 2/5
With the latest update, I am now seeing a row of pictures of all my previous scans … IN THE MIDDLE OF DISPLAY, WHILE TRYING TO TAKE A NEW SCAN⁉️⁉️⁉️
WHY???? This new “feature”…
⦁ Is VERY Distracting
⦁ BLOCKS the view of my current subject
⦁ Is showing SENSITIVE Client Info to my current client
⦁ SERVES NO PURPOSE‼️
PLEASE allow one to TURN OFF this display row!!!
My Previous Review Title: Clean & Simple
My Previous Review: Does it's single task very well.
Fantastic scanning capabilities 5/5
I’ve tried a lot of different ones.... but this one is #1 by far. You can scan a whiteboard, document, screen at almost any angle and it corrects it. Plus the text in the scan is OCR and searchable.
Integration with OneNote makes it a champ. I rarely rate anything 5 star. This one clearly deserves it.
Unusable latest version 1/5
By Mighty iTuner
I have been using Office lens for a very long time. The latest version is completely unusable. Can’t scan and create pdf documents anymore. What happened?????
Best free scanner app 5/5
This app works very well and provides a reliable way to digitize paper receipts and make PDFs.
Great App 5/5
I don’t understand why so many negative comments. I use this app all the time and I have no problems. The app works just fine for me.
The only PDF Scanner that you’ll ever need 5/5
By DJ Rizalph
Don’t waste your time and money on other scanner apps. Trust me
Latest version got too clunky 2/5
The initial release did one thing and did it very well: take a photo of a whiteboard or paper and clean it up. I used it daily.
Newee version added a bunch if features i dont care and messed up the experience of scanning things. now it takes more steps from me and does not work as well. So Ioved back ro plain Camera app. Sadly it works better and does not make me do unnesessary taps.
Useless- deserves zero stars 1/5
Crashes immediately upon opening. Was really looking forward to using this app. Wasted tons of time searching for a fix on Microsoft forums and tried EVERYTHING and ultimately wound up uninstalling and signing out of every Microsoft app, software and deleting from every device I own then started over fresh. Twice I thought I was getting somewhere by I got it to stay open and tried snapping a business card for upload. Got as far as clicking “done” after the picture was taken, then it was the eternal spinning wheel of death. What a piece of garbage!!
Doesn’t save to OneDrive 1/5
This app worked great until the end of the summer. Suddenly, I’m unable to save anything to OneDrive. As a teacher, this was one of the convenient features. I could be anywhere and upload something I had taken a picture of using Lens. What’s the deal?!?
Reducing rating to 3 stars - shows photo album by default 3/5
I had this rated as a 5 star app for years. The latest version displays ones pictures from photos when scanning. In a business setting this is not appropriate; my pictures from a ski trip should not be visible to those standing behind me as I scan a whiteboard. Further, as near as I can tell, this adds little benefit to the usage of the app. When this gets changed I will reconsider my rating. It is now hard to recommend the app.
Update broke the app 1/5
Taking a photo and uploading to OneDrive.
One the photo is uploaded, you select the camera again, it take you to the photo you just uploaded. If you discard the photo it will allow you to take a photo, but then freezes. Please fix this. I use this app all the time for recording Microsoft COAs for compliance reasons....
Not Consistent 1/5
Does not convert to word consistently.
It was better before 3/5
By неко трећи
Taking and managing photos is good, but saving them in form of pdf is painful. Half of the time I have to wait a lot, and it fails to save. Also, if i am managing my files, or just looking at them, why the hell is my camera running in background?! It drains battery and has no purpose at all. Please change it.
UX needs a serious overhaul 2/5
By Greg P.
I really only use this for integration with OneDrive. That said, the UI needs a serious overhaul. It doesn’t conform to Fluent design, doesn’t make use of a notch-type display, and is simply confusing
Gets hung up transferring files to OneNote 1/5
I got this app specifically to scan notes to OneNote. It doesn’t do that—I tried a few, and they just got stuck, spinning in”transferring” mode for hours. So, it is useless to me.
The absolutely best! 5/5
Best app for scanning, hands down.
The only thing I would love to see done differently is the point selection in the cropping tool. You should make it so the touch points extend out beyond the little white circles on the outside of the bounding box so you dont have to touch the circle itself, which covers up what you’re trying to line up with your fingertip. Besides that, I love it and its a part of my every day workflow.
Time saver! 5/5
Worked perfectly for creating pdf documents Was in a time crunch to send legal documents in pdf. Simply took a pic of each page and sent as a pdf. Worked well for me!
