Honestly I hate leaving negative reviews, but their app is garbage. Can't pull any previous rental information and none of the current rental information is valuable. Just tried to look at "arrival directions" for my trip tomorrow - nothing. Blank screen. Don't offer an app if it brings zero value to your customers. Just sayin'. ✌🏼

At Salt Lake City airport, I couldn’t rent a car because I forgot to bring my drivers license. They said it was a state policy. I tried to show them my passport and the copy of my drivers license. They rejected it. I am not going to rent a car from National anymore!

Car was dirty inside. Cleaning tool was left in car. Car gas was only at 3/4 tank and I purchased prepaid fuel option.
Hidden stipulations 1/5
Even if you are an emerald club member with an active account, they will not rent to you if you use a card that doubles as a debit card. You will reach the gate, never having had this problem before, and if you are a resident of the state you’re renting in, they will turn you away.
I will likely never do business with National again. I will be switching all of our corporate accounts to enterprise.

I rented a car at the LA airport and was very disappointed with the team that worked there. I had issues with the car and left several messages for a manager to contact me. So that we could work together but after calling 3 times I turned it over to the national headquarters. Never did I receive a call or email from the LA location. Very sad. My company rents from national every day of the year. All over the world. And this is not what I expected from this location. Every other location is great to deal with.

As long as you’re an Emerald club member and use Emerald aisle and quick drop off, you’ll be fine. It’s when you deviate from that by questioning a charge, vehicle problems, free rental day use or go to the counter for any reason at all that the problems occur. National customer service is the opposite of what it should be. They seem to find every reason to deflect responsibility and offer no recourse. I had one “gentlemen” at Charlotte airport tell me I was privileged to think the car I reserved should be available when I arrived. Also, arrive at Montréal airport later in the day. Expect to see an empty parking lot with 10 people standing in line. Not an isolated incident, twice in 3 months. Aside from those encounters, I always check to see if my destination does not offer Emerald aisle service or worse yet, is run by a franchisee for National. If so, I rent elsewhere.
I’m a frequent traveler with Executive Elite Status for the last several years so my opinion is not based only on the experiences above. National has been fairly consistent in their arrogance and lack of customer service over the years. Emerald aisle is the only thing that keeps me from changing companies.

Had to put confirmation number in search block then said reservation can’t be viewed in the app. Really????? Now I can’t submit the review until I pick a nickname. Yet all the nicknames I’ve selected are taken.

After I realized I left my garage door opener in the rental, 20 minutes after dropping off rental, I immediately called National to let them know that I left my garage door opener in the rental...it’s been 3 weeks later and they still haven’t found that garage door opener. 🤦🏽♂️ So don’t leave any belongings in your rental, you’ll probably never see it again.

Beware using National. Long time customer - 20+ years- and they won’t allow me to use my rental credit on a mini-van because I’m no longer an executive elite member. Total BS, very disappointed, and will be looking for other options given lack of loyalty being reciprocated.

I have been renting from national for a couple of years now. I have had good customer service. The cars are clean and on the new side
The only thing is the management of cars going out on Monday evenings. At the Memphis airport there’s usually a wait for a car and it Doesnt matter if you are Executive level or not You still wait

Nowadays National does not provide a coupon code. Therefore, reservations can only be done via their website and not the mobile app. Very inconvenient.

I have always been pleased with the automobiles & service provided by National Car. No hidden fees, when traveling the multitude of toll roads in Florida you are only billed for the tolls. I have always received a nice, clean car and Emerald Aisle makes it so easy! No stress waiting in long lines. For these reasons I’m happy to pay slightly more for peace of mind! Thank you National Car!

Rented a car yesterday at Charlotte airport, found medicines, gum, water bottle (used) with receipts from last rental in the car. Then even though I had changed the rental to unlimited miles at $82 with taxes in rental (at the suggestion of the rental associate) upon returning the car I was made to pay $172, with the comment that they cannot change as this needs to be done by Charlotte airport as the change was not reflected in the contract

National has let me down on the past few times I have tried to use them. How do you not price match your sister store to retain a loyal customer first off and secondly your representative needs some better training with how to speak to their customer. The emerald aisle for frequent renters is great but if you can’t retain and keep your customers happy you’re not going to be in business long.

What has happened to National and the SUV selection? How on earth do you run out of cars during conventions that you know have been scheduled for 2 plus years.
I have used National exclusively for business and personal the last 8 years and the last year has been one bad experience after another on terrible SUV selections and unhelpful customer service. Very dissatisfied and shopping new companies this year for my company travel.

TL;DR: This rental car app does pretty much everything you need it to, book a rental, see special offers, see current rental agreement, and skip rental counter. Its well laid out and functions very well.
Unlike other reviews, this review will be about the app functionality (to be honest I have no major complaints about National/Enterprise rental). I think the app works best if you are National Executive Member or Emerald Member; also you get a free membership upgrade if you have a Visa Infinite card.
The app shows how many more rentals you have before you get a free day, and where you are in terms of rewards. You can book a rental very easily with the app and the special offers section is on the app “home” page so you can see what offers they are currently available and it easily applies to your next rental.
It quickly updates with your current rental, allowing you to see the details of the rental and extend your rental if need, all from the app.
The biggest reward for the app is the ability to skip the rental counter and get straight to you car, a big plus on busy holiday periods.
Finally it works with Apple Wallet, but it just places your membership card in there. You still need to use the app to see your reward status, unlike other member “cards” in Apple Wallet. To be honest, I have never been asked for my National Emerald Club card, they just look up my reservation using my drivers license when going through check out.
Its a good app. Works well, I can manage bookings, current rental and my rewards right from the app. Plus skip the rental counter!
I have tried 3 times to cancel this reservation. I have been on hold for over 30 minutes total. I have been transferred twice.
Night Manager Rude as Hell 1/5
We were instructed to load up on a Flex SUV when we arrived. Baby and four bags into the car, the manager came out and said to “get out of the car...it is my car”. I explained that she gave it to me already which is why my stuff is in it. He said, then asked who did I rent with, “National, Executive member”. He said yeah , you can’t have this one...and had us remove my stuff then drive it 20 feet ahead and parked it. The are no four door cars in the executive area...so I am now waiting 35 minutes. The Flex was just given to a couple with two bags! Unbelievable treatment!

Logs you out all the time, after acquiring executive elite status now I have to memorize my national club number
Needs some help. Some annoying things about it are 1) if you change the date you’re searching it resets the time to noon so you have to change the time any time you change the date. 2) Entering in airline info a) doesn’t work (no airlines populate) and b) leaves you trapped, unable to complete the reservation because you can’t get out of the airline box to tap “reserve” and the bottoms of the screen. 3) The green “reserve” button and every other button on the bottom of the screen is hard to press on iPhone X.
