NBA AR - Basketball Game App
Welcome to the NBA AR App – the official augmented reality app of the National Basketball Association!
The NBA AR App offers unique AR experiences, starting with a pop-a-shot-type game that inspires you to play anywhere, anytime. Take your shots at an authentic NBA hoop as you compete against the clock -- and your friends -- to move up the global Game Center leaderboard.
Feeling ambitious? Step back beyond the arc for a three-pointer. Even turn on your audio to listen to the crowd cheer you on in the middle of the action.
Personalize the game by adding your favorite NBA team’s logo to the court and colors to the gaming experience. Look around - there may even be a few surprises waiting for you.
Shooting really well? Playing in a really cool setting? Brag to your friends and family by saving and sharing a replay of your game on social media and other messaging platforms. Use the hashtag #NBAR.
1. Select your favorite team to personalize your NBA AR app experience
2. Scan your environment to set the ideal location of the floor and hoop (we recommend large open spaces, outdoors and well-lit areas)
3. Tap the screen to load the ball
4. Flick your wrist (don’t let go of the phone!) to shoot the ball. Practice to find the right arch and velocity of your flick
What devices can I use the NBA AR app on?
The NBA AR app is available on iPhone 6s and above running iOS 11. This is the oldest iPhone device that ARKit is available.
Why does it sometimes appear like I’m standing below the court?
The court pins to a nearby flat surface. If you’re standing near a table, desk or another surface, it may pin it there. You’d then look like you’re standing below the court. That’s why we recommend larger open spaces so the court is placed on the actual floor.
How do I know if I made a two-pointer or a three-pointer?
If you aim your phone at the ground and see you’re standing behind the three-point line, you are shooting a three. You’ll also see a +2 or +3 animation after every made basket, notifying you of the shot point value.

Coolest app ever!!! 5/5
By He loves it
I love it,keep up the good work!
This game is to hard to figure out what to do 1/5
I can’t figure that out what to do
Train wreck 1/5
I hope the NBA didn’t actually pay for this.
By Mr. Brooks187
Everytime I shoot the ball the court wants to move to the opposite side of the room. Talk about a travel..
You can’t play it 1/5
By Jackson Reviews
Every time it says let me scan the area it does nothing, even when I go outside
Not accurate on throw. 1/5
I have an iPhone 8 plus. This game does not respond well in the AR mode.
Won’t open 1/5
It doesn’t give a pop up to allow camera access and the app doesn’t show up in settings to give it access. The developers need to get the iOS popup for camera access. Totally useless app for now.
Don’t like it 1/5
Camera does not work. I TRY going into the settings scroll down to the bottom and then I looked for it but it’s not there.
Won’t open 1/5
I did all the instructions that the previous reviews say and the app still won’t open because it says I didn’t enable camera
App does not open - keeps asking for camera access. 1/5
Not sure how to add camera access, not an option in setting for this app. Will not open. Please fix.
Tried the recommendation, the nba app not showing in the privacy setting in camera.
Can’t Load Court 1/5
I went outside, in a few rooms in my house with adequate lighting, and it can’t register any place to set the court. I wish I could get this to work, but it won’t.
App froze on opening screen even after killing it and restarting.
Hate the shooting mechanics 1/5
Playing this app isn’t worth breaking my iPhone or iPad. Needs to have an alternative method for shooting— such as flicking a finger on the screen — instead of whipping the entire device toward the basket. Also, the position of the ball is blocking the view of the rim, so taking shots is always a blind effort. I won’t be playing again until these dumb design decisions are corrected.
Incredibly fun AR experience! 5/5
Virtual pop-a-shot? This is brilliant! A ton of fun to play outside and love the whole experience. NBA nailed it!
Fun AR Game 5/5
Very nice AR experience and environment. Would like to see more like this!
