Not reliable 1/5
WIFI sporadic disconnections are frequent. For one of the few USA made routers, the R7000p is unrealizable and Netgear support is substandard. So, we’re looking for a new router elsewhere.
Any router/modem company that doesn’t have frequent updates, including firmware, isn’t keeping up with threats.
Nighthawk RAX120 2/5
Bought this router from a third party. The unit is pretty new but already registered to the seller.
The reason I bought the Nighthawk Wifi6 replacing my old Nighthawk X10 AD7200 which did not cover the range of my house and garage. The RAX120 was reviewed and advertized to cover 3500 sqft while my house is a little over 2100 sqft.
Set was not easy, so I sought the Netgear Tech Support and was denied service unless I pay $49.99 good for three months for reasons that the unit was not from an authorized seller. It seemed rediculous that they will not help when the S/N is confirmed to be a true product of Netgear. Having no other alternative, I agreed to pay the fee.
The tech, after more than two hours was able to bring it up. After connecting all my devices to the internet with the RAX120, noter that the signal (2.4gHz) dies out half way through my garage.
Called again Tech Support and this tome she logged in through the back door of my computet and played around with the settings , changed channels but no success. Het final verdict is for me to buy a wifi extender which is another expense because oh the fact that the RAX120 is not capable at all to over the 3500sqft range.
Conclusion: THR RAX120 or AX12 AX600 Wifi 6 router did not live up to the expectations of providing wifi oner a large to very large homes, my home is not even large per se. Why can’t Netgear provide me a compatible extender to cover up their pride??????
How can I recommend this product to my friends. This is one of my many Netgear products I have bought in years.
iOS App often doesn’t work when IPV6 enabled on R6700v2 3/5
The Netgear R6700v2 was advertised as supporting IPV6 but I have had irritating problems when IPV6 is enabled. The biggest problem now is that if IPV6 is turned on in the router’s advanced options (disabled by default), then the Nighthawk App on both iPhone and iPad often or usually doesn’t work or works for a while and stops working. If I turn off IPV6 and reboot the router, the App works fine. Other than this Nighthawk App, I think IPV6 works (using Web interface rather than App) although some VPN’s won’t work from the router’s network with IPV6 although newer versions of VPN’s with IPV6 support will probably work. Luckily, I don’t require IPV6 yet, and recommend Netgear router users just avoid enabling IPV6 unless they know they need it.
Need an account?! 1/5
I just want to change the network name, but it appears you can’t do that without setting up an account. That’s really, really stupid. Unless you plan on giving me a cut when you sell my information, you can shove your app.
New firmware update breaks router. 1/5
By Willy Billy16
Since I updated with the new firmware update it will connect to my router but I will have no internet. The app will no longer find my router either.
Underwhelming $500 router $0.05 App 2/5
How is it that the app loses features that were free on the genie? Trying to monitize through add one? Please be transparent about what options we now have to pay for if that is the case. Or let us go back to the genie. This is a sorry attempt and providing a good interface for intermediate router management.
App crashes every time I try to login 1/5
It’s honestly a terrible experience, I can not sign in as the app crashes as I soon as I press enter.
Fast and Reliable 5/5
By Midnights Mac
Easy to use and control who and what’s on your network. Easy setup and security is great. Don’t even look at anything else. Runs all security, tablets, to, and game consoles at the same time with no problems at all.
Very confusing, “not user friendly at all”
Does not display all connected devices 2/5
I’ve noticed since the last update that my connected devices list stays at 15, although I know of at least 5 more devices currently connected that the app shows. Makes it hard to manage which devices I allow to access the network and which ones I don’t.
Smartphone app setup?? 5/5
By Rad survivor
AWESOME. That. Was. AWESOME. I didn’t have to call anyone! I had a suite of tools at my disposal, and a pre defined database for issues. I had one snag, rebooted both devices and BOOM. Thanks. That was seamless! Thank you.
Great Router and WiFi w Terrific Flexibility 4/5
Awesome product. Very robust bands, frequencies, connections, and versatility. The software is intuitive. Only criticism and positive suggestion is that devices offline ought to appear in the interface maybe grayed out or something. For example, we have to wait for a device to come alive or be turned on before we can toggle it on or off for connection purposes.
Works well 5/5
Easy to set
Finally I got rid of the Netgear ecosystem. The app is useless as their expensive Nighthawk router. Is not only low powered, but things like Smart Connect are not working as they should and my devices ended connected to the slowest band. The app is unable to determine at which band/network is every device connected. Goodbye.
Not sure it works
Night hawk 5/5
Night hawk was easy to set up and gives better quality than expected
Great App 5/5
Need to update!
Worked great until last update 2/5
By KC daily driver
app crashes on iPhone 11Pro. Worked fine until last update. Features are great, remote access was seamless. Crashes after resetting phone, router, modem, network, etc
Great Product. Easy installation process ever!!!! 5/5
It was easy to install
This app is a mess and unstable. It works periodically and you cannot reset your password if you try. I would love to have the ability to monitor my unit but it's a real shame I cannot.
Crashes Before Login 1/5
App was great before iOS 13, since then I’ve been unable to use the nighthawk app. After entering login credentials, the nighthawk app closes itself every single time.
Dishonest and disappointed 1/5
Don’t trust the screen pics and promises of functionality on this app description. I’ve used NetGenie with my R6220 satisfactorily for over 6 years. Forced update required a change to this Nighthawk app and subsequently lost much functionality. Lost all parental controls, lost the ability to edit device names, and more. Editing device names causes an endless loop requiring the app be closed. In 2020 we added some new iPhones and now have parental controls blocking much access to these new devices ... Yet one cannot amend parental controls via OpenDNS without each affected user logging into NetGenie, which no longer functions!! So we are stuck with phones blocked from social media and things from when my kids were 10 years old. Pathetic “update.” Avoid.

Netgear Customer Service? 1/5
First of the CS is awful. I’ve been told that I would get support with my router and have created a case and they won’t help me without charging me even through I was told that I would get the appropriate support without charge bc of their tier 1 support messing up my entire internet. I then wait for over 2 hrs to get a call back when being told it would be less than 15 mins then I decide to call back and they won’t help. Then put me on hold for another 35 mins. In one day I spent over 3.5 hrs on the phone trying to get my router set up. Asus looks to be next man up. Netgear yours customer service is as poor as Comcast and we all see where that’s gotten them.

What more is there but sweet!!!
My Netgear58 cuts out frequently. HELP!
Will not recognize the router. Followed the worst instructions ever out of a box.
User friendly 5/5
Easy to use. I appreciate the built in speed test.
What happened to you 1/5
Netgear you really used to be a good company
I don’t know if you have to hire computer programming interns to cut costs or outsource your company operations but you really fell out of quality in the long run. It’s really bad when you can’t name your own device in this app which makes me think that second hand beginners programming had to be used to build it.
This security thing was a bad idea.
I’m really disappointed and saddened that I don’t get the quality that used to be prime back with you 10-15 years ago. The only saving grace is that it’s free to download. Maybe it’s time for a change in business leadership.
Would like to see more features 5/5
I would love to be able to use wake-on-lan via the router. Since I can do it locally, I should be able to do it via the app as well, right?
Very happy 5/5
I’m certainly no IT guy and I found the nighthawk easy to install. The app is very user friendly, and I like how I can control all the devices with my phone. Wireless is definitely fast enough for us also
18 devices listed. Only one identified by actual name. The rest are “unknown” and all state not connected to internet. What gives Netgear?? It’s all over the internet that others have the same issues but you don’t fix it?
Very disappointed in Netgear. Every firmware that they have put out is horrible. The last version has made my WiFi download extreme slow even though I have 1g fiber modem. My modem does better on WiFi then this router. Also there night hawk app is horrible also. Under connected devices it list some of my devices as wired but they are wifi devices and not connected through lan.
Junk - Not able to login. Just sits there, no denial, NOTHING 1/5
Just sits there, no denial, NOTHING
This is the best they could do? 1/5
I upgraded from the X6s to the RAX80 and still the same crappy app with limited options? Yea, I think it’s time to leave netgear behind. Asus is so far ahead of these guys it’s unbelievable
Every option available online should be available on the app. Why isn’t it? And why does it take a decade to implement a single change in the router settings?
Actually very helpful. 5/5
Makes it easy to see how things are laid out and gives accurate control. Very easy to update firmware, solid 5 stars.
Best app 5/5
Hands down the
A must- 4/5
Highly recommend for efficiently managing the Nighthawk router. Give 4 stars however because of the persistent effort to up sell other products...ammoyinf
Sorry, won’t be installing this app 1/5
I used Netgear genie for awhile. After updating one of my routers, I have 5 netgear routers networked together in 4 separate buildings, one of my Nighthawk routers was not supported by the genie app. So, I thought, ooh cool I can try a new app. Well, first off it wants me to make an account online. STOP! Wait I have to create an account online to configure my internet router. 9 times out of 10 that I’ve used the genie app is to isolate an internet trouble. If I can’t use the app without internet it’s useless to me. The only reason I was even going here was my netgear cable modem/router had slowed to a crawl due to dos attacks from what the logs in the router were saying. After a day of searching online and troubleshooting it looks exactly like an issue that was posted on Netgear’s own forum about 5 years ago and as of a few months ago still had not been resolved. It appears to be some weird bug with iOS devices and IPV6 packets being misread as DoS attack packets in the router. Netgear did not even respond to it on their own forum. Netgear seems like it is becoming like every other tech company that focuses on greed more than the satisfaction of their customers. Too bad I have 5 of these things. I’ll be manually logging into them for now until I find a better alternative and will start replacing them one by one.
App won’t connect to router 1/5
Updated to latest version and now app will not connect to model RT-AC68R router. Using iPad Pro, also latest version.
To access router I must log in directly .
Parental controls missing 1/5
All the screenshots show an option to manage parental controls, but that is not actually an option in the app.
Extraordinarily frustrated 1/5
By Pandora elf
Extraordinarily frustrating, impossible set up. App provides no assistance. No one to contact. Returning to the store.
It is for View, it management! 1/5
This app allows you to see some of the settings, but you can’t manage the device for it. What’s the point of making a app so limited in its resources that you must go to the browser to do anything meaningful with the device anyway?
Device Manager feature does not work 3/5

Not happy 1/5

We constantly loose internet connection and have to reset the router!
Love it 5/5
I like that it’s pretty easy to use. Really like the speed test and being able to reboot my router with my phone.
New router! 5/5
No more dead spots! Plenty of power to accommodate new 5G internet. Very easy to install with a simple app. Love it!
Much improved 3/5
My main gripe was the app's inability to retain user assigned device names. That is no longer the case. All device names show as assigned. Still comes up short on router level security features. Instead they market a couple of "security" software products that operate at the device level. Circle is nothing more than a browser that must be installed on each device and is easily bypassed by any 7 year old. I still have Genie on my network but it really doesn't do much as the filters don't work. I want a program that will block specific incoming traffic, sites and content and it needs to be baked into the router, not a third party add on. Then you will have a five star product.
Seems to be mostly ok for what it is, but the features are very limited compared with the web interface. Also, one annoyance is devices that are named in the web interface show up as “unknown” in this app. After figuring out what they are, naming them manually in this app, and assigning a device type icon, it saves those only at that moment. As soon as I exit that screen and come back, they are right back to “unknown”. My router is model R6230 (AC1200 Smart Router).
