App Not Working 1/5
I’ve tried multiple times to log in, have reset my password multiple times, and I infinite to get a message that says an error occurred.
Love it. 5/5
I absolutely love the app for my NightHawk. It’s so easy to check my speeds, and what I love the most I can control all devices connected to it. It’s a winner.
Don’t bother 1/5
This app is a hot mess. Instead of putting in a manual ip entry, they’ve chosen to rely on a wonky auto-discovery that doesn’t work. You can choose to reset your modem, but in my case it still didn’t work. But opening up safari and navigating to the correct IP address works perfectly. This app is garbage, and not what you should get after paying $300 for a router. But the web interface works, so at least there’s an option.
App doesn’t work 1/5
After initially getting setup, I tried to log back into app a few months later. I use the correct email & password but I consistently get an error message. I’ve tried changing my password & that doesn’t work either. I constantly get the same error message
Very frustrated 1/5
By BA Bob
I’ll probably take it back. It appears to underperform the claims made on the box. But, with no instructions included, maybe I just haven’t guessed my way through it yet. I doubt I will keep trying.
Parental control?? 3/5
Where is the parental control!
App never lets me log in 1/5
The older version of the app was great, but after updating I literally cannot log in (it just keeps saying it encountered an error). I've reset my password, verifies my account on netgear's full website, and can log in elsewhere. I can no longer access any of my devices or use this app at all since updating. What's worse is there is NO WAY for me to tell anyone at netgear their crappy app is locking me out. Support is expired on my nighthawk 7200, so I have no option to text, chat, call support... Only search their KB and online forums. Of course, no in app support or issues button. Terrible.
App not working 1/5
Since the most recent update app will not find my router remotely or if I’m connected to wireless. It just hangs on searching for router then after about a minute it wants me to log in. It hangs on that screen too and never goes any further. I’ve even uninstalled the app and reinstalled. No change.
Terrible app 1/5
This app was forced on me. The prior app worked just fine but suddenly after updating the firmware, I was forced to download and try to get this think to work. Wouldn’t take my password. Tried to create a new one and met road blocks at every turn. Gave up and logged on directly using my browser. Yuk! Don’t bother.
Nighthawk AX12 3/5
Very fast good range but drops WiFi signal more than my old R8500
App leaves a lot to be desired. 2/5
Device manager is not much of a manager if you can’t change the name of the devices so that you recognize them. What is the point of having an edit by each of the devices with a save button if nothing is saved or can be edited?
And I have to put in my password everytime even though I told it to save it and touch id won’t save either!
Also I’ve tried to update the firmware via this app and every single time it just spins and spins and spins for hours and hours and then I finally have to go on my computer and update it from there.
A remarkably useless application. You would think Netgear could do better than this.
Filter option 5/5
I was hoping you guys brung back the filter option. I have all my devices in static ip’s and it helped me to be able to make sure they were on correct ip and quickly tell which wasn’t
Genie was better 1/5
Netgear Genie was a good app that we used regularly. After updating the router, we are forced to use this app. I’m not going to use this app because of having to create an account. We should have the option of using this app locally. Now we have to back to using the browser interface to access the router.
A forced online account to log in? 1/5
Come on, Netgear! Are you serious?
With the old Genie app (which you also broke and have forced us to create an online account in order to access our routers), you could at least log into your router locally, but this app doesn’t even give you that option!
You know, Netgear, not everybody wants to create an online account to allow access to their home routers - why don’t you just let us log in locally?
One star until you realize PRIVACY is important to your users!
Let me use the app without storing my credentials on your server 1/5
Local use, local storage: just use the router access code!
No need to require email address and password
Lag on my sons xbox 2/5
By johan guillen
My son has an Xbox that runs pretty good and today he told me that he had a lot of ping/lag and that his game was running really slow and he showed me a screenshot and he had 22136 ping so I was curious of what I could do if I had to move the Xbox closer or something else or do we have to buy or do something
Trying to be too cool with graphics but 1/5
Total unfriendly app, with dead ends everywhere., It took hours to get this to work , and I’m fairly competent
Had to save names multiple times to get it to save them and has other things pop up that says connected but then I refresh and they go away
Great app but took away a bunch of features 3/5
The Netgear Genie had so mamy more features and customization that this lacks. This app is good, but missing things like changing WiFi bands, channels, etc. please upgrade to include those things!
Since I cannot use the genie app anymore and have to try to use the nighthawk app , I cannot reboot router anymore with app or login half the time this is junk , there is no 0 star rating , that’s dumb too
Cannot run speed test. 3/5
When trying to run a speedtest, it says the connection failed and to fix by rebooting the router. That doesn’t make sense since all other functions work fine. And I can run a speedtest with the standalone Ookla app and that test works perfectly.
Requires remote management - security risk 2/5
I want to use this app as an alternative to the webpage portal built into the router. It looks like it has better usability on mobile devices than the webpage.
Unfortunately, this app requires a NETGEAR account and enabling remote management for the router. This is an inherent security risk. I don’t want remote management. I just want to manage my router on the local network. This app won’t do that.
Easy setup! 5/5
By PJ in AZ
Just set up new Nighthawk R7900P. The Nighthawk app made it very easy. And router management is convenient.
Don’t even bother 1/5
Netgear Gene worked on my Nighthawk router until recently. Now it requires this new app. New app requires a login account for ‘security’ reasons. What a crock. What do you think router passwords are for? Oh and you can log in using your Facebook account as an alternative login. How the flip is that adding security? Nothing but a marketing gimmick and an attempt to steal data from you.
Please fire whoever made that decision at Netgear. BTW, I like the router. I just wish Gene worked with it again.
Awesome app 5/5
By why not be a noob
This app is great because you can use it to setup your WiFi and you can see who is using your WiFi
Quality and function 5/5
It’s the best rounter I have ever owned
This App is extremely helpful and simple to use.
Gives False Speeds When Testing 1/5
I’ve been experiencing download and upload speed issues all day long and using the standalone Speedtest app results it accurately delivers results of less than 1MB/sec where using the Nighthawk app which supposedly also uses Speedtest to gauge speeds tells me my download speed is closer to 80MB/sec which is impossible as everything has been slow as molasses all day. I’ve done multiple tests back to back and received inaccurate results from Nighthawk every single time. I don’t see any value in a test that doesn’t deliver accurate results.
Know what you need...? A back button.
Just like every other app, like every other browser- like ANY other interface.
My only option to go back? Close the app out, losing all my typed info in progress, and then restart.
Know what a pain that is!? I’m writing this review because- while
Trying to log into my existing Netgear account- I’ve already had to force quit & restart the app three times.
Waste of my time and energy, so no matter how good the app is post-login? You’ll be stuck- STUCK- with a single star for your laziness in failure to code in a single yet crucial facet of the user interface.
Poor showing, NG. Boo. Hiss.
Simple, very easy and great
Too basic 2/5
By Bo Dollar
I’ve owned cheaper brands and models that allowed for control than this unit. The signal strength is over hyped also. I set in my living room 10 feet from my modem and still I have two neighbors who’s signal strength is better and performs better. It’s not my ISP because I rented their modem in the beginning and replaced it with NETGEAR thinking I would see a huge difference. NOT ... it actually performs less...
Network Router Magic! 4/5
This app made setting up and maintaining my new Netgear router a snap!
Not right 1/5
By Wannabe runner
Updated now nothing works right. So much for a update. Someone needs to fix it again.
Quick n easy!
Getting about 295mbps. My IP service is 500 mbps. At the modem my speed is 536 mbps. Not very happy with this and not sure how to correct it.
Horrible Terms and Conditions 2/5
Please take time to read the Terms and Conditions and don’t just click Accept. They are unintelligible and absurd.
As these terms are not disclosed or available to the buyer at the time of purchase, the consumer has no way of knowing what they will be asked to agree to until downloading the “instructions” app. At this point the only option is to return the router and hope another manufacturer has a more ethical system. It’s time we all start refusing to agree to these outrageous T&Cs! Get you money back and tell your elected representatives that enough is enough.
Nighthawk app 3/5
App worked good for first couple days after getting my new Nighthawk AC2300 router. After that the app has trouble detecting my router (even when in the same room as my router). It also changes the names of my connected devices after I have edited the names. When it actually detects my router it works pretty well.
Having a bit of a time setting up and maintaining my WiFi. Helpful app, seems to be improving. Seem to have problems keeping my WiFi secure from neighboring people who seem to access my WiFi from the street and park to use it. My brother insists that no one can do that.
Can not login through app 5/5
No matter what I do I cannot login through the app and can’t control my LOCAL WiFi router. Useless piece of crap. I can login on the website just fine.
Edit: after following the instructions left by the developer it’s now working just fine.
Night Hawk 5/5
By C C smith
Bought this over a year ago and not one problem. I test speed, download and ping and they are always excellent. I would but again.
Speed test has been broken for the last few revisions 2/5
Are you seeing this or even aware the speed test that use to work is broken?
Nighthawk app 2/5
Wanted to reaffirm someone else’s earlier comment this app is BROKEN with regard to auto- recognizing device names. Spent 1,5 HOURS with NetHear tech support with NO SOLUTION. So I currently have 11 devic s on router, no clue who they are!
App doesn’t show names of connected devices 2/5
Exchanged emails with the support team. They even had trouble calling me back, I had to call in. It’s difficult to understand people whose first language isn’t English and that fumble over their words.
Still looking for a solution for this before I decide to drop Netgear products all together
Great router, worth every penny! 5/5
Was VERY easy to set up and get devices online (like a printer, TV, handheld devices). Has great range; I can mow a 1 acre yard and still have excellent wifi connection....that’s about 200 ft away. Perfect wifi throughout a 2 story house. Connection speeds are blazingly fast...around 90-100 mgbs (the max of my internet provider. Get rid of your older, annoying, slow router! I was glad i did!
No devices shown plague 4/5
When is this issue going to be fixed?
Great app but miss the Genie 4/5
By ihs mark
THANKS for the great app, but please bring back the network map in an update. I used this often in the Genie app before it was made obsolete. I need to be able to set specific restrictions on different levels across devices. Still earned 4 stars and is stable.
App is absolutely pointless. Will never connect to the router no matter what. Everything for the router I have to do through the web browser. Please fix ASAP!
