After the recent app update the app is not working at all. I can login to my account but it will not let me login with my admin credentials to manage the router settings. The error says the login timed out, I tried both iPhone and Android and same outcome. The router is on the latest firmware. I can simply login with my computer browser and manage the router, but what is the point of the app in this case. Come on netgear do some proper testing before rolling out your updates. Edit…. 9/13/2021…. Updated the app and still can’t login with admin credentials, keeps going back to login page and after three times says timed out. Nice try but not fixed yet.
Confusing Speeds 1/5
The speed test says that my network is moving extremely fast, however everything that’s connected to it seems to be moving slow or showing 1 or 2 bars (cell phones and tablets) no matter where I stand in my house, including directly in front of the router.

The new update has made this app completely useless for the time being its funny how an already bad app gets worse. I was already pretty critical of the change when netgear made the genie app obsolete in favor of this nighthawk app. But now being unable to access the app entirely is the icing on the cake. Also kinda funny how most of the critical reviews on here are 5 stars, makes you think someone’s trying to cover up how bad this app really is.
Hopefully it gets patched soon since they do seem to be aware there are issues with these updates
App stopped seeing devices 3/5
Worked fine until yesterday when app stopped seeing devices connected to router. Not much good to pay for armor to protect router by scanning connected devices when it is only seeing one device.

This is the worst app possibly existed anywhere. Time after time app cannot login to the router and reject the password I inputted. Have no problem logging in through the browser or on computer with the same password.

Updated the app yesterday and now I cannot log into my router. Asked me to resign in. I tried and it says invalid user email or password.
Next I try to reset my password and no email to reset it. App hangs then keeps asking me to reconnect to the router.
Also, if I open the nighthawk app, my wifi on my phone goes bonkers. This new firmware released yesterday, Sep 13 was supposed to fix log in issues but it seems to have created more.

After this new update, I can no longer see which devices are connected to a specific satellite. The page fails to load. The app is also slower to load the devices page and the new organization layout is not good. It’s not organized by the frequency that your devices are currently using.

I’m finally done. I can’t open the network on my phone app any more because it says “it looks like I’m you’re not on WiFi”. But of course o am on the exact WiFi mesh network that the Netgear is creating! Tried new install still nothing. So mesh is working but suddenly now I have no control over it through the app anymore. Boo!

Used to Work Well…Now It Doesn’t Update Firmware 1/5
I have an R7000 (ac1900) Nighthawk router purchased in late 2017. The first few years I was very pleased with it operation and this apps support. However over the last year I started experiencing more and more internet drops. Since this app said the router firmware was up to date, i suspected ISP issues and spent months debugging. I routinely have used this app to check for updates to the router firmware which worked well for the first few years. However I just realized today that the app has stopped finding and installing firmware updates! I check the Netgear website and find there had been numerous firmware updates that this app still reports there are no updates. This is worse than no app at all and proliferates old, out of date firmware in countless routers without users being aware. This puts Netgear customers at risk of new attacks on their networks. Netgear please update this app to have the app check for and install the latest firmware updates. I’m very disappointed in Netgear over this issue. I will look elsewhere for my next modem and router after this frustrating experience.

Poor replacement for an AirPort Extreme

This router gets worse every day. It worked great for about 6 months, but then I started noticing intermittent drops. Every day it gets worse. I cannot access controls on my computer and the app says it cannot update the firmware and just give an error message. I’ve tried rebooting a million times the past couple of months. That does not help. I’ve requested my password to access settings. I get nothing except a message saying it was sent to my email. No emails yet. I’m so annoyed. This is the second nighthawk in 2 years that has done this. I thought the first one was a fluke, but now I think it’s just a terrible product designed to self destruct. And why the app??? Why not give people the choice of being able to access it via computer instead?? The app is so bad, yet you offer no choice. I see after a week of research that this is not isolated. Too many people are having this problem. I’m fed up. :((
After One Year App No Longer Functions 1/5
One year after purchasing an extender the app no longer functions.
I made the horrible mistake to assume I could upgrade my router this year. Big mistake. The app barely opens without crashing (even after removing it and then downloading again).
When it did work for a short while it had recommended to scan the QR code for the NightHawk router. One problem- that router doesn’t include an actual QR code for some odd reason.
Ultimately, it was never able to ‘see’ the router and decided to set it up the old-school way.
The app has become a total joke at this point.

How could such a big company… 2/5
…have so many problems in their equipment? There are so many occasions I can not log into the app at all. It doesn’t recognize the password and locks you out. Then when the app looks like it’s working it crashes before ever getting into the app. The only thing that is consistent is the internet will run through the r8000 albeit, unsecured.
I’ve had the antenna split to run two different names for each 2.4 vs 5 and upon shutting down one of them there’s a complete security risk as people can still sign on and use the wifi when these have been turned off. No matter shutting down restarting or disabling the group devices are still able to log onto a network that the router actually shows as off.
Speaking of restarting the router, when you reboot or update from the app it will load bogus sales screens in your face that can not be bypassed as if it’s “running” something in the background. When it finally does finish and it asks to join the network that it’s suppose to be, it denies you access.
Maybe there should be less options simply because from operation to security it seems there is not much working from netgear.

While my router is awesome, this app is not. It always clears my previous speed test, so I never have historical information - even though it looks like it’s supposed to. Upon login, the app crashes. Even though I have it set to biometric login, I always have to manually enter may login info. Not the biggest deal, it it gets annoying. There’s a lot of little things that make this app terrible. Netgear should audit it and fix it.

I wanted to like this app, but it’s just poor. Always forgetting my device names that take way too long to input, always signing me out and doesn’t remember me. Sometimes I just want to do a quick speed test, but it takes upwards of 5 minutes just to get to the test. It could be so much more simple and easy to use.

You cannot setup the router by scan the QR code (invalid QR code). After I setup a printer, I applied a new firmware and it changed the printer’s IP address forcing me delete the driver in Device Manager and reinstall the printer driver on every machine. Do not EVER change to all the computers to Smart 2.4G!!! It hides the existing SSIDs and stops computers from getting to the internet. Lastly, stop guilting me into buying extra security monitoring with a lower and lower rating without changing anything!! Let me shut it off! Don’t lecture me about security either in your reply.
Nighthawk APP version 188.8.131.52 is terrible. 1/5
After upgrading to the latest firmware for Netgear A6220 WiFi router, the Nighthawk app times out when login in gin to the admin account. I tried resetting the router to default settings. I reconfigured and everything is working except the Nighthawk app.
I can access my admin page via the 192.168.1.1 admin Id and password. What the heck is going on? Why is it each time a new Firmware update is released, the main control app breaks? Do your developers test these upgrades prior to releasing to the end clients? Kindly fix your app to not timeout when the admin ID authentication routine is trying authenticate to the WiFi router. Kinda makes us loose faith in your products. I was really happy until this latest release. Please fix your crap!

After a reboot, I can connect to the router through the app for about 20 minutes, at which point the app will no longer successfully login to the router. It will just come up with a “timed out, please reboot the router if issue persists” error. Very frustrating for a high end router to not function correctly with an iOS app.
