It losses connections all the times 1/5
It losses connection all the times ..!
Now requires location - for what? 1/5
By Russell T
It won’t even work unless you authorize location - why? There’s no reason for this. About to return my Orbi...
Great router for a large home 5/5
Works as advertised. Allows for wired and wireless hookup which is great for legacy laser printers that require wire to the home network. App work well too.
Worst expensive router on the market 1/5
Constantly loses internet connection. The tech help didn’t fix the problem. The message boards haven’t quite figured it out yet either.
Weird how the router started acting up 2 weeks before the tech warranty. Seems to be a very common issue.
5 stars 2/5
Oops!! That was supposed to be five stars. I love being able to see you is connected in my household.
Last Update is not stable 1/5
This was a great application but after the latest update it crashes when logging in every time.
Refuses to Load Anymore 1/5
This app no longer works unless you choose to send your location to Netgear. The Orbi system will also block devices the next day that are approved from within the app.
Great product 5/5
Narrowed down my mesh choice to Eero and Orbi. Orbi has best speed at distance. Virtually no loss. Very happy
Locations services require to use the app 1/5
I am very concerned that the latest update of this app will not continue to allow me to use the app without enabling location detection. The app does not need this; however, will not let me continue without it. This violates apples App Store policy and the app should be reported.
Privacy Violation: Blocks Access, Useless 1/5
App blocks complete access to the router unless you grant it location privileges. I’ve read your canned developer response, Netgear. That’s no quality of life update. Give it a break. Give me control of my router back.
Not very reliable 2/5
Easy to set-up. Good speed, but up time has been spotty.
Lost bitdefender security 2/5
App completely lost security after latest os update
App disabled without your location 1/5
By Majin Tenshi
You are already connected to my WiFi, why do you need my GPS location? Very few of the features could benefit from GPS, yet the whole app locks out if you don’t give it your location. Most apps are able to work if you revoke one of the requested permissions, yet Orbi’s locks out.
Requires location access to use. 1/5
This app requires you to allow Netgear to track your location. There is no conceivable reason to track my location to setup my WiFi router. I guess I will have to return it and buy another brand. They should put that on the box or something.
*Privacy Alert* Requires GPS location 1/5
The app no longer functions unless you allow gps location services. This is a breach of privacy.
Easy setup. 5/5
Plug and play. Awesome
Fast & EASY Setup No Prob, ens Fast Internet Speeds 5/5
I can’t say enough about the Orbi solution. Super easy to setup and never a hitch. Solved our Wifi not reaching certain areas problem like a champ. In place for a couple years and still going strong. Highly recommended for all but even better for non technical folks who are intimidated by the whole “router” issue.
I have the 2 unit Orbi, one router and one “satellite” that was purchased at Costco. Each unit has 4 internal antennas. I suppose it’s really acting like a simple router/booster set up. However, and this is a big however, the boost I have downstairs is significant.
I just switched to a provider that promised 500 up and 500 down. On my hardwired PC I am getting what was promised. According to speed test I’m getting 250 down and 195 up in my living room downstairs on my mobile devises, about 10 feet from the satellite unit. That’s pretty good.
One interesting side note, when I run the Orbi app speed test it says I’m getting 500 up and down on my mobile devise. It does not agree with the “Speed Test” results. Either way, I’m very happy with its performance.
App now requires gps?? 1/5
An update to the app now requires GPS to be enabled and access granted. The app does not need GPS. Uninstalled!
Works great! 5/5
Covers the entire house!
Latest version not working 5/5
I have updated to the latest and it’s not working. The app keeps shutting down
Orbi is a life saver 5/5
We have a fairy big home and we used to have dead spots all the time. After getting Orbi things have been running smoothly. Love the product.
Horrible App 1/5
By Jud Davis
Not worth the time to review.
Security won't enable 1/5
Even after paying for the Orbi security feature, it still says "expired." Junk....
LOCATION PERMISSION? Seriously?? 1/5
There is no need for this in Orbi app. Will delete. This is unacceptable. And there is no way to use the app without the gps enabled?!?
Best investment ever 5/5
By Tiger T Boots mommy
I was getting poor internet speeds with a router and booster. My Master Bedroom is the furthest from the router in the house. I was getting 4-7mbs and many times losing connectivity altogether. It was really frustrating me. My Orbi system arrived today and I'm using the 2018 model as I picked up a 2 satellite system for under $200.00. I am now getting over 117mbs now!!! I am thrilled. I highly recommend the Orbi mesh system. My connection is powerful all throughout the house evenly.
Fix your firmware! 1/5
What a waist of money! And you support is a joke
What is going on? 1/5
By Jaycee Atefaiv
So now I HAVE to enable my location services in order to log in??? Hell no Orbi. You guys got this wrong. Oh, and by the way, you misspelt diminished. 😒
Unreasonable permission requests 1/5
Just a continuation of a trend to ask for full access to our information and then play dumb when security is compromised.
Why does this app need access to my location, or otherwise will get “diminished experience”? I’m ok if it does not connect automatically if I change network name. Why am I not allowed to continue with this option if I chose so? Unless one gives permission one cannot even continue. Do you do any basic testing of your software before it is released? This app cannot be used at all without this permission - this is not “diminished experience”. This a completely nonexistent experience.
Doesn’t forcing you to give them unneeded permissions violate Apple store policy? How about the lack of access to a privacy disclosure?
Latest update requires location permission 1/5
Apparently Netgear is now in the business of selling your location data.
Location Services Now Required to Use App?! 1/5
By Foo to the bar
Not cool...and firmware version check does not work...lame!
By emis ra
Orbi router never works as it’s supposed to. Blocks random sites and apps. Very frustrating.
By terrible for ios
iOS app is terrible
Orbi gives me stable WiFi in large two-story 5/5
Before adding Orbi with two satellites we had dead spots, interference from neighboring systems and slow speeds in many room. The Orbi system has solved all those problems. Extremely fast speeds now in all parts of the house and most of our yard.
Forcing Location Services 1/5
Dumping the app because now its forcing me to turn on location services to allow netgear to track my phone. I can use my browser to attach locally without this intrusion on my privacy.
Shove it 1/5
The absolute worst system for WiFi. I hate everything about the program and the fact I have to download an app make an account just to set up a WiFi where I’ll hopefully never have to see the app again is just stupid. Can’t we just go back to a time when things were simple and companies weren’t shoving their crap down our throats just so they can sell our information to other companies. If a product is good then you shouldn’t have to market the upgrade it should be something useful that people want to buy but instead you force us to give you all of our information so you can contact us every time there is a little new thing you want to sell.
Needs improvement 2/5
By domer 1979
Seems like the functionality is severely limited compared to the web based options.
Buy this 5/5
Good router, horrible software 1/5
So first you had to login to the Netgear site to configure your router. Then you had to provide location information to be able to login, and if you declined it just would not work. You are just stuck. Luckily they have a web-site you can browse to and use, but it has some random password that you first have to reset. Just don’t bother with this, just use the website by default.
Has issues 2/5
Several of my apps, one of which I must have for my business, does not work with my new Orbi system. I have no idea why, they just won’t.
I know it’s the Orbi because when I turn my WiFi off, they work just fine while using cell data.
Firmware update 3/5
By Purple gold
Cannot get router firmware to up date thru app. When I check for firmware update it’s say it can’t check at this time. If I reboot it will say update available after several minutes it will show update is available and after several more minutes it says update completed but it still shows older ver.
Cannot check for firmware update unless I reboot every time. So at this point I’m not sure which version I have.
In command 5/5
Controlling your home Internet cannot be any simpler
Good not great 3/5
By Makin points
Does a good job. But, Won’t retain adjustments i make to names and icons of devices. (Need many more icon options) Only keeps 2 speed tests in history. And I love the mesh system. But some older legacy devices are not compatible. I agree this falls on the device manufacturer to fix. But say NG would step in and give a work around it woukd take them from being a great company to a AWESOME company that cares about their customer needs regardless of who’s at fault.
Privacy issue - forced location services 1/5
Why can’t I use this app without turning on location services? It literally will NOT work without enabling it.
This is the only way to see my Orbi settings and should not be behind this sort of forced handover.
Apple please look into this bs
Requires personal information 1/5
The app now REQUIRES location access. You are not able to bypass this.
Requires location service, will not work without it 1/5
By App Trawler
The latest update requires location services to support some feature. The explanation says that without location services I will have a “diminished experience “. That experience is that I cannot continue into the app.
This is a recent change. What’s the deal?
I won’t use any app that demands my location when it’s not really necessary.
Location access to even open the app? 1/5
I can’t open this app without giving location access. Why would Netgear require location access to Ontario my Orbi when I’m already connected to my WiFi ? The only reason seems to be that Netgear is selling user and location data. No matter how much Netgear can sweet talk this to say they need this for user security, it does not make sense.
I haven’t paid 400$ to get treated like this and get my information sold for pennies by companies like Netgear. I would return this piece of s router if you don’t fix it soon.
