Thanks for fixing iOS 11.3 5/5
Doesn’t crash anymore. Great app. My 5 year old loves it.
Doesn’t work 1/5
Downloaded it but can’t open it. Every time I click a section on that main page it completely crashes. Please update.
Crashing repeatedly now that my iPhone is up-to-date 4/5
By Mama Szrama
This app works wonderfully until I updated my iPhone and now it will not open except to immediately crash.
Great! But has a bug 4/5
Love the app but currently it will not open. It keeps shutting down when I open it even after killing the app and reopening. Please help!!
We were loving this app but with the most recent iOS update it isn’t working anymore 😊 If that gets worked out it would be a 5 for me!
iOS 10.3 Compatibility issue 2/5
By Johnny Walter Bowstick
App crashes since latest iOS update. Doesn’t work on iPad or iPhone under current build.
Suddenly stopped working 1/5
We loved this app-until today when it randomly stopped working on the iPhone, even after deleting and reinstalling. Thank goodness it still works on the iPad-for now? I sure hope this bug gets fixed soon!
Opens and crashes across multiple devices. Multiple attempts at deleting and re-downloading.
Loved this app, but now all of a sudden it crashes as soon as it loads. 😕 I have tried deleting and reloading it. Help, please!
Issues on clicking Part 1-3 1/5
Every time I try to click part 1-3 the app automatically closes and I’m back at my home screen, I keep trying and it keeps doing the same thing please help
Great app until iOS 11.3 4/5
A great free app with no ads but the 11.3 iOS update seems to have broken it. The app now crashes whenever I try to open a section on the home screen.
Update is lightyears ahead of old app 4/5
Three things would bring this up to five stars for me: 1. Remember the question I’m on from the previous session. Why do I have to click or scroll to get back to the question I’m on every. single. time. I. open. the. app. 2. Finish the songs for the kids version. 3. Bring back the ability to see the kids and adults answers simultaneously (the kids answers were in a different colored font).
Overall this is a great app!
We love the New City Catechism app. It’s great.
To make it better, it would be wonderful to update it for the iPhone X. Also, a scrubbing feature for the songs would be great, especially for the ten commandments song that spans multiple questions. Also, is there anything we can do to help get more songs? We love learning the words through the songs. Thanks!!
By dr nogood
Is there something wrong with this app? I can’t get anything to come up on it. I’ve reloaded it 3 times.
Awesome Resource, Awesome App 5/5
The catechism itself is beautiful. It includes prayers, commentary, and scriptural support for each question and answer. The app itself has a great aesthetic and intuitive design. Go download it.
We love this app! 5/5
By God's Ranch Hand
We just found this app and have added it to our morning routine. My boys aged 9 & 11 love the songs. We sing along and even take different parts which they really enjoy - todays quote: “This is Fun!!” And I hear them singing the songs during the day. Even catch myself singing the songs during the day. What a wonderful way to learn the New City Catechism.
Great and simple 5/5
Perfect app to what I was looking for my kids.
Great app, room to improve. 3/5
This app is great. I love using it in the morning to sing the catechism with my 2 yo. One thing I wish it did was play continuously through all the questions. Currently you have to open the app or press play after every question/song to keep it going.
Great app to teach theology to kids 5/5
Great tool to teach good basic theology to your kids. I use the app with my 4 and 2 year old and the 4 year old has memorized about the first 20 questions. I can see how his knowledge from the questions is already affecting the way he thinks about life. The songs are great too, they help a lot with the memorization of the Q and As and make it fun for the kids. Highly recommended.
Android, please! 5/5
Love this; thank you so much for creating. Please consider creating android app as well!
This is great for our family devotions 5/5
I think this is one of the best tools to help teach young and old alike the truth of Scripture. The Children's mode has to be the best feature...I still have one of the songs stuck in my head!
Kids Mode! 5/5
The app includes "kids mode" where the answers to each question have been simplified for younger children. The songs that accompany some of the first questions are a lot of fun and my 4 year old loves singing along. I don't know of any other songs that have my kids singing truths about the Trinity! Thanks for the great app, and my family looks forward to more songs being uploaded!
Excellent resource. 5/5
The app is easy to use. I love the children's feature.
Great app 5/5
This app works great and I enjoy using it with my kids. The songs especially are helpful for memorizing these truths. However, if you don't keep your finger moving on the screen during songs it will time out and your phone will lock. Think it would be a little tweak worth working out. Other than that it's fantastic! :) thanks!
Great app...include kid friendly commentary 4/5
Great work on this app. I review it with my elementary boys almost every night. Content is great, songs are good and the app is easy to use. The one suggestion I have is to make the commentary kid friendly for the kid version. I try to explain every question and answer but there is no way I would read the commentary to my kids. Thanks!
Love this app and using it with my kids. My 2 year old is crazy about the songs and loves singing along with them. Only thing I would change about this app is that I wish the music would keep playing even once the screen on my phone is off. It's a little inconvenient to have to keep the screen on for it to work. Overall though, this app is great and has been a great resource for our family
Looks great, feels great, but needs more scripture emphasis 4/5
A lot of the answers are good and true but you can tell that they are derived from more than just the one piece of text given. List or display all verses used to come to these conclusions so new concepts can be verified on the spot! What other reason is there to include the verses?
Love using with my kids 5/5
Grateful for the content and pretty design of this app! I miss the videos that the NCC used to have, but the functionality is much improved, and the songs are a nice addition.
This is such a great app and curriculum. Our family has the book also and our small group at church goes through this one question a week. I wish you could play the song from the adult mode, though. (You currently have to switch between Child mode and Adult mode to access both the full answer and the kid song.) The songs are obviously for kids, but helpful for me as an adult too! It also would be SO COOL if I could play all the songs on loop for my kids. Anyway, awesome app, just a few things that would make it even more useful for my family.
Great app!!! ❤ 5/5
Our whole family loves this app. What a resource and a gift! Thank you for making this!!!
Love the new design and partnership with Crossway. One huge improvement would be the ability to share Q&A's on social media. Also, I echo with another reviewer about bringing back the footnotes and suggested reading
Need to be compatible with all iPhone models 1/5
I have an iPhone 4S, this app will not work on it. After downloading it you cannot get past the intro screens to the actual catechism. The bottom of each page is cut off. Make this available for all iPhone types please.
Great app! 5/5
Would help to have an option for showing answers by default or have to tap show first.
The children's mode is a nice feature.
Improvements for content description accuracy and missing content I miss 4/5
Regarding content accuracy: the app states scripture quotations are from ESV, however they do not match the ESV.
Regarding previous content that is no longer available:
1. I really miss the suggestions for further reading, and footnotes of sources of commentary information. I purchased J. I. Packer's book as well as Macleod's "A Faith to Live By" and have found them very helpful for further study.
2. If possible, please reinstate the option for the user to select the version of his choice, and possibly add the NKJV..
Suggestion for Crossway 5/5
By Steve M Lucha
Love the app, and I think is a must have for every Christian parent. The kids songs are super catchy. I would suggest this to make the app much better: when the app is on, prevent the phone from sleeping so that the kiddo songs don't stop playing or allow the songs to keep playing in the background even after the screen sleeps... Also maybe a "repeat" loop to allow it to play over and over. I've found with a 3 year old, repitition is essential!
My favortite kids' catechism, app needs some tweaks 4/5
In terms of content, I adore this app. My three year old is possibly even more in love with it than I am. It's very intuitive and she has no problem swiping from question to question and tapping the "play" button so she can hear the music (since she can't read yet). From other reviews it sounds like there used to be other cool content, hopefully those will eventually be added back in.
Things that are lacking that would be helpful to add:
- Enable the music to play in the background and when the screen is off.
- An option to pick up where you left off, instead of having to begin at the first question and swipe through or use the drop menu. This would make it easier to use for pre-literate kids.
- A "shuffle mode" for random assortment. Basically a way to quiz yourself/the kids.
- Incorporate the catechism from Crossway's Big Picture Bible, or make an app for that too!
Awesome tools 5/5
I love multiple modes for the catechism. And an up to date design and timeless substance.
Not working on my iPhone 4s 1/5
I'm really excited about this app, but it's not working on my iPhone 4s. It won't go past the home screen. I hope this can be fixed!
Great and I love the Children's Mode 5/5
Great app and the Children's Mode is an especially nice touch.
Good but not great 4/5
Although I prefer the layout of this new version much better, Crossway left out a couple of things from the old app I thought were great. I really miss the videos, which I thought were a nice touch to the old app. Also, I miss how the children's answers were highlighted from within the full answer. Overall, this is a solid resource and I LOVE that's now available for the iPhone.
This is a wonderful tool for teaching the fundamentals of the Christian faith to kids and adults alike.
Doesn't work on iPhone4s. 3/5
I wanted to love this. I listened to the songs on band camp and discovered the app included the songs. So, I excitedly downloaded it, but I can't get past the welcome screens. I can swipe through three intro screens, but I can tell some of the bottom is cut off. They must be made for longer screens. 😕 There must be some button I have to push that is out of the view of the screen. Too bad. Maybe when my phone dies and I have to update it in a few years I will try again. Maybe by then they will have all the questions to music. :) My boys (ages 4, 2, and 0) REALLY loved the music. Great idea.
Beautiful teaching resource. The songs, commentaries, and bible passages make a complete and easy to use teaching resource for our 3 kids. We use it at dinner and as part of our bedtime routine. We are grateful for this amazing app.
Love it, but... 4/5
The New City Catechism I started with in January 2017 had the answer to the question in it's entirety, but colored differently for the children's portion. Is there a way this could be done for this updated view? Also, I really liked the Puritan prayers and the weekly videos that were posted. If these changes could be made, the app would be perfect. As it is, it is very good.
Latest upgrade with iPad requires reinstall 4/5
Initially had trouble getting the app to function on iPad mini. Deleting and reinstalling app fixed the problem. New features look helpful.
Wish I Hadn't Upgraded 1/5
By Timbo Wade
Loved the original App and used it on my iPad. Now it locks on splash screen. Please rerelease the original and call it New City Catechism for iPad. I see many others are in this boat too. Thanks
Great app 5/5
Doesn't work... 1/5
By Grosjean B.
Since the upgrade, my app no longer works. We only use it on our iPad.
When we open the app, it will only show 3 different colored pages to swipe between but nothing to click into. It won't open beyond the initial startup pages.
We're so bummed!
No iPad compatibility 4/5
My jr.-high and middle-school age boys and I have been using this app for almost a year on the iPad. It formerly was not available for the iPhone. Last night, I saw that it had been updated and went to see what changes were made. The iPad display is formatted so that the phone icon blocks the "Done" button and prevents me from accessing the content. I tried rotating it to portrait mode, but the screen doesn't follow.
What I like about the changes they made is that the commentary and prayers come from contemporaries rather than pastors from the 15th - 19th Century. Within the first few lessons of the old app, I gave up reading them to the boys because the vocabulary was too elevated for them. I have been having them memorize the adult answers
I miss the link to the video explanations for each question, though I know I can get them on YouTube. I also miss being able to memorize in either NIV and ESV.
I am glad they made this available for the iPhone because it is more portable. I hope they work out the bugs for the iPad.
Amazing app! 5/5
Thank you for the amazing update! I love using this as a devotional with my children.
While there is a bug for the iPad, the iPhone version works beautifully. The design is sleek and easy to navigate. Updated songs in children's mode that pertain more closely to the verse, which is nice. (However, I hope some of our favorites from the old version of this app are still in there) it's so nice seeing such quality apps like this and ref net being made for the glory of God!
Please fix the iPad bug. Looks like graphics are over the top of the 'done' button on the intro splash pages so you can't continue.
