iPhone issues 2/5
Worked good for the first few months, now my iPhone won’t connect and I can’t view the cameras or anything. I can only view it from the monitor. My phone says “Connecting” for like two minutes then goes to “Disconnect” and won’t display anything. I’ve uninstalled the app then reinstalled it and still doesn’t work weather I’m connected to 3G, LTE or WiFi. I’ve rebooted my router and DVR, even scrubbed the memory and nothing is fixing it.

Cameras look great.
App is worthless.
You can’t even ff/rew the video files you access thru your phone... that’s if you can even find the file you want.
Only 1 of the 4 audio inputs works.

AHD 10 DVR system 5/5
I have the AHD10 DVR system for 2 yrs already. I could not view remotely on app (away from home and even AT home) for almost 2 weeks (April 2018). I thought and waited for maybe an update would pop up for the app...and nothing. So I finally called technical support and I don’t know why I waited so long! Now I can remotely view once again and watch recorded movements, etc! Thanks to the great customer service. If you have a problem..call their tech support!! I was going to leave a bad review, but I had to call technical support to see if they can fix it and they did!

this system is a waste of money. there's always some problem and the "record all" setting hasn't worked since i purchased this a year ago. it only records motion. i also find i have to unplug the main hub every other week in order to access it from my phone. overall terrible system there is ALWAYS a problem with it. if I could give it 0 stars I would

The app needs a rehaul. It takes FOREVER to connect to my DVR when I am connected to my network. Let me remind you. I have 100 download speed so, that should be no issue. When I connect via my 4G iPhone it connects right away!. So, I have no idea. The app just seems outdated. It’s slow!.. UPDATE COMING ANYTIME SOONNNNNN? PLEASE????

We have had this system and the app was pretty bad, but it worked good for live view. I haven’t been able to access my app and view anything in almost 2 weeks! I called and was told the app will be down for two more days. Today is day 3 and we really need to be able to view our home from our phones and can’t. I will be looking into another system!! This is garbage!

The app is not stable at all. If connected with WiFi, it works great (most of the time), but as soon as the internet is connected with carrier network, the camera doesn’t work. Tried uninstalling and installing back, but no luck. Please fix it

Push notifications were working, then stopped. I have rebooted the DVR, uninstalled then reinstalled the app, and double checked settings in my phone. Nothing worked, no more notifications. Sensitivity on the cameras was terrible. They had to be set at 7 out of 8 max to pick up humans, but I get every piece of blowing dirt or bug that flies by at night. The further off the ground they are mounted like 20 feet as mine are, the worse the picture is on night vision. When notifications did work, the data on my plan was used up just from false notifications due to sensitivity issues. After rebooting the system some cameras have better sensitivity now, set at 3 or 4. I bought this system for push notifications and now that won’t work.
Someone fixed the issue. Now my notifications work. My system is working great now.
The app will not connect to my device at all now. Maybe I need to uninstall then reinstall the app again, but I’m getting worn down and don’t want to do all that work. Tired.

I have been using night owl for 2 weeks. Live view worked fine a little glitchy but ok. Now I cannot connect to the device at all. Several hours trying to figure it out. Waited on customer service for quite a while didn’t get through to talk to anyone. I think they are kinda busy huh. Might dump this and get a Samsung.

If system worked the way it’s supposed to, it would be great. But that’s far from the case.
The power adapters for both the DVR system and the cameras are cheaply made and fail often. They last about 6 months to a year before they have to be replaced.
The app when working is functional. You can view your cameras in real time and view recordings from the DVR remotely. However, far too often the app (and viewing cameras remotely period via phone, computer, or any other means) flat out won’t work at all. There’s nothing that can be done to fix this either, you just have to wait till the system magically fixes itself. Sometimes this will last for days, other times weeks.....extremely frustrating.
Customer service/any sort of help is pretty much non-existent as well.
Cheap system. Cheap parts. Cheap app. Cheap functionality.
UNRELIABLE is the best word to describe Night Owl.

App is terrible it stopped working all of a sudden I already took the app off turned off my cameras and turned them back on and it still doesn’t show me live view or anything on my phone. Please fix and I’ll rate higher

I can't even get it to connect to my device anymore. and when I could I could hardly see a thing because it was always buffering or the app would freeze all together. Wish I could figure out away to watch via a different app.

Waste of time and money, I can watch it on my tv, but it doesn’t work on my phone, only for two weeks I can see live video on my phone and it stops working have to pull out the plug for my DVR and sometimes it comes back on, now it doesn’t work at all

The app doesnt work at all. I keep trying to connect to the app and it gives me a password error. I change username, password multiple times and it always come with the same problem. I tried in my Ipad and it keeps telling me the same.

App was working great (on WiFi only) for iOS and PC. Last week, all of them cannot connect. I didn’t update any of the OS, so I contacted customer service. Went through a series of troubleshooting steps, then was told that their engineers are working on an update and the remote viewing will be down for a day. That was last week. Contacted again, and was told they don’t know how much longer it will be down?!

These are such good cameras, but it’s a shame how bad the app is. It really does make the cameras a waste of money. Every time I see or hear something suspicious, I try to look on my phone and 9/10 times they don’t connect! I set them to alert me when there is activity, not once has this feature worked. I would not recommend these to anybody nor will I purchase anymore of these in my next house.
I recently changed cameras I already had for these so I could be alerted to activity but it constantly going off and when I go to check it the screens are blank and I have to add camera each and every time which is very frustrating and today I felt it was weird I wasn’t getting any notifications and when I pulled app up it shows disconnected and there isn’t a way to connect the darn thing from my phone and I’m at work.
Since I started writing my review I decided that before I send it I would go home and do what someone else suggested and enter my up address and I did that and it worked okay all night while I was at home except i still had to add each device each time I opened app and I get to work and go to check it out and NOTHING! It either says disconnected or connecting but nothing happens. I’m so mad that I got rid of a perfectly good system to replace with this one only so I’d get notifications and I cant seem to get them after all so I wasted money and my husband wasted time removing old system for this system. Guess I’ll have to have him waste more time removing these to return to Best Buy and install the old ones back in. I’m so disappointed. And one more thing, the picture in daytime is really good but 2 out of the 4 cameras have a grainy picture at night. So maybe they should be called old owl with cataracts. My other system had a much better picture at night. App has good potential that has fallen at the waist side. Worst purchase I think I have ever made! Even worst than the tattoo I got on spring break as a teenager! Don’t waste your money or time!

I like the cameras themselves but this app is a different story... The app has glitches in itand has trouble loading on my iPhone 8. And today it wont let me connect to it and it will not open up

If I would've checked these reviews, I would've gotten a different system. I constantly have to reboot my system, delete and reinstall the app on my phone. I get alerts but cannot access the cameras because the system is "disconnected." What is the point of having mobile "access" to my camera system when I can't access anything. I really should start a class action lawsuit against night owl because they haven't improved anything although it is promised in the app description.

The HD cameras on the Night Owl system look and work great. But this review is for the App which does not give me remote access to see my camera displays. This is a priority function needed for a home security camera system, and one promised on purchase of this system. I have 8 cameras installed professionally around my house but can only view the camera feed from my home. This is a gaping hole in the expected security standard I thought installing these cameras would provide. What a shame.
This app never has worked properly no matter how many times I have gone through the setup wizard, re-downloaded the app and completely reboot the system. I think it’s time customer service reaches out with a solution and/or provides options/reimbursement for a rather expensive cost of installation and setup.

I 100% agree with Stephan Brown’s complaints, I’m having the same exact issue and it’s very annoying. Someone tried to break into my house, so I finally put my system up for a piece of mind. But the app needs work. Multiple times a day I have to manually reset the cameras on live view for each channel and when I do get a motion notification, I always get a spinning black screen. If I go back to check what it was, it didn’t even record it. Now, I have it set to continuous recording so I can just watch the entire day or go to the times where I need something. Pretty inconvenient for me. I LOVE the cameras, though. Great quality. I just hope the developers can work through these issues.

The camera love view after the most recent update is pretty much unusable. I used to be able to swipe back and fourth between the blank camera views and it would pop up. This no longer is the case. It won’t ever load unless you click on ‘device’ and then wait for the device to become available. Once it does you select it and then it connects but it defaults back the 6 camera view not the 4 camera view I had it on. From there the app works ok until you close it. Once you close it this song and dance starts all over. This recent update is horrible!!! Fix it!

I’m building a house and have these cameras set up for remote viewing through the app. Every Time I open the app for live you I have to manually add all of my cameras... Beyond obnoxious....

The app doesn’t always work. I get a red circle with a slash through it most times on my “device”, so the cameras won’t come up. Some times it connects, some times it doesn’t. It’s hardwired so the DVR always has a connection. If I’m on my home WiFi, it doesn’t always work either. I guess it has a mind of its own.

App keeps crashing on iPhoneX. This app is almost unusable. Keeps crashing continuously. Ever single time I start the app, I need to go to device management and save the settings to be able to see my camera views. Which in itself ridiculous but hitting that save button crashes the app.

Ever since night owl done a update the system no longer stays connected to my iPhone. I have to wait until it connects so annoying. I’m wandering if I can get the old version back. I never had any issues with the old version. And the system was always connected unlike now.

Well, I bought an 8 camera DVR Night Owl system from Best Buy summer (2017) for a new construction residence. Cameras were easy and straight forward to mount and set up was easy. However, very difficult to get to work on app. Can’t get the cameras to load and show live views (which is why one buys a surveillance system to begin with). TONS of notifications but can’t view any of them.
Well managed to get it running/almost EVERY time I am away from my residence/ it’s a 70 percent chance the live view won’t work from cell phone. Usually one has to manually reboot the drive from your phone and then maybe you can view the cameras. I have never ever seen an update on the app...COME ON FIX this piece of crap system... I’ll never buy a night owl again and I am a police officer with a big mouth when I get screwed over. BUY some other brand !!!!
Well kept trying and trying doesn’t connect from cell phone using data - this thing is worthless DO NOT BUY THIS pos...totally worthless. I won’t be buying anything NIGHT OWL except a plastic owl to keep the birds away on the roof👎🏿

I think the system is great but the app is not and without the app being efficient then the system is of no use!
First of all it is ridiculous that I have to constantly re-select the cameras I want to see for my live view....perhaps there should be a save button to save the cameras you’ve selected and edit button to change them around...or it should just save automatically.
Next when I get an alert on my phone 99% of the time when I go to check I can’t see the video, it’s just loading even when I’m connected to WiFi so I know it’s not an issue of me not having service on my phone.
If these issues were fixed this app would receive a 5 star rating from me....please update the app to fix these issues!

I currently have the same issues as many others have previously mentioned. I cannot view my cameras from the app if I am away from my home. It will only load the live view if I am in the home and using WiFi. Who cares? If I’m here me, I don’t need to view them on the app. I bought this system to be able to view them remotely when I am away from my home. Until the app is updated so that’s it’s compatible with iOS 11.2.6 it is a complete waste of money.

The camera system works great. But the app never wants to connect to the DVR. So it makes it very difficult to view the cameras when I’m not at home. They only connect to my DVR about 10% of the time.
App Needs Improvement 2/5
The camera system is pretty good....
The app on the other hand not so good. The notifications only work sometimes. The videos you save can’t be sent in a text on the iPhone. When viewing live video the app doesn’t keep the phone from going to sleep, if you want to continue viewing you have to manually turn that off in the iPhone settings. Would be nice if you could also set the cameras to always come up in HD mode instead having to change it every time you open the app. When you do get notifications it doesn’t tell you which camera had the alarm then when you swipe to open the notifications it just sits and spins nothing ever opens.

They make you feel like you are the problem when you have an issue. They never want to accept that maybe their crappy app is at a fault. That app worked for a week and now I no longer get notifications on my phone. The main reason I got this system was for the mobile notifications!!!!! Get this fixed ASAP!!!!
