Was great; now not so much 2/5
By Karen in Cincinnati
I installed this app several months ago and paid for a year’s subscription. The first 2-3 months I was thrilled. The app blocked nearly every single spam call. But I’m afraid the spammers are winning cause I am back to getting daily spam calls. I report them and keep the app open to no avail. The new spam calls seem to originate outside the US as they come in with +1 in front. I hold out hope that they’ll figure it out...
Simply doesn’t work 1/5
I have been paying for this app monthly for almost and I don’t remember it actually blocking a single robot call. It is good at identifying them after the fact, but I need something that stops the calls from interrupting me at all. Every time a robo call comes, the app hangs until I force-quit and restart it - THEN it indicates it was a robo call! For $2 per month I expect more than the same email 6 months apart from apparently the only technical support person (Rita Thompson) saying “force-quit, uninstall, reinstall” - that’s it, no “developer follow-up” as indicated, no nothing. So for $2 per month I get nothing- done. If I could give this app zero stars I would. The real shame is that I have been using the awesome VOIP version of this service for years, and expected the same from the mobile version.
Red dot for Robocaller no longer shows up? 4/5
Overall, this is a great app. Stops maybe 98% of the robocalls I receive, very glad I got it.
The one thing I’m disappointed with is that it’s lost what used to be a useful feature. Formerly, robocalls sent straight to voicemail by the app were marked with a red dot in my iPhone’s list of voicemails received. Recently that stopped being true— so now when I look at the voicemail list, there’s no way to tell the difference between a robocaller msg & a regular voicemail.
In the voicemails list, if I press the “i” in a circle to the right of a number (for information on that particular caller), then on the info page I see the red dot & the number is labeled “Nomorobo: Robocaller”. But the red dot no longer appears in the overall call list.
Can you please restore this feature, back to the way it was before?
Battery eater 2/5
I’ve had it installed 1 day. Too bad in that time I haven’t been able to see it perform on any spam calls or texts. It has quickly risen in the battery consumption list to show as one of the highest consumers. Maybe if the background settings could include not needing such frequent database updates it would relax?
I won’t know, I’m just going to remove it for now. I doubt it will be fixed within 13 days when I’ll start being billed.
Doesn’t work 1/5
Can’t even get the app to install properly (app isn’t listed in Phone settings). I’m on the latest version of everything.
Sent an email to support days ago, with no response at all. Needed to say, I won’t be continuing past the trial
By Der Lindwurm
The majority of robocalls still ring through. I’ve only noticed a slight reduction in the number of robocalls I get compared to before.
So far so good! 5/5
I have been using this app for about three months now and I have yet for a robocall to get through. I was getting dozens of calls a month before I started using it. Seems that whoever had this number before me wasn’t picky about who they gave their number to. I have also stopped getting nuisance SMS text messages for this person as well as Nomorobo blocks these too.
I just wish that the price was lower. Privacy Star seems to do the same thing but for.99 cents per month, but I don’t think it blocks text messages that I don’t want so I will stick with this app.
Does not provide enough protection to be worthwhile. 1/5
It just doesn’t catch enough calls to be worth the cost. The feature to send them directly to voicemail never worked. The call just rings without going to voicemail at all.
Don’t expect anything from Nomorobo. 1/5
I gave this app 4 months to stop spammers from calling me from 5am to 6pm. I reported each and every number to nomorobo. I paid the subscription fee. But guess what? The app never has worked. Ever. And to be quite honest I receive more spam calls than even before I had this app. I update it sometimes twice a day and still nothing. The spammers have clearly figured out a way to get around the “technology” that nomorobo thought it had. Nomorobo deserves to be shutdown unless it can actually complete the task it advertises it can do. Would you accept it if your automobile worked 60% of the time? Or how about your internet? Or maybe your heating or cooling system in your home? I doubt anyone would answer yes to that. So why does Nomorobo get to exist and charge you money for something that simply doesn’t work?
Greatly reduces spam calls 4/5
It doesn’t catch all of these nuisance calls , but it gets most of them. These callers change phone numbers constantly - you get one they didn’t block, submit the number.
If you have a landline it’s free and works even better than on mobile. Spam calls ring once and disappear.
I’d love to see support for Google voice numbers, but overall I like this app.
Doesn’t work a lot of the time 2/5
When it works it’s great. You won’t even know a blocked call happened until you look at the call history. Unfortunately, and after having worked with their support on multiple occasions, it quits working a lot and has to be force-closed and then restarted every single day. For some reason it will quit updating itself for days at a time and you’ll know it because it quits blocking calls. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app doesn’t help.
I noticed that a lot of apps (such as this one) that were free and worked well have a steep decline in service and reliability when they become paid apps.
Getting worse 2/5
By Simon Corry
Over the last few months the number of robo-calls has exploded. I’m now getting 10-15 calls a day and this service, if I’m lucky, catches 1. The problem is so bad I’ve resorted to keeping do-not-disturb on permanently.
It Works 4/5
Since installing the app the number of spam calls has dropped substantially. It’s not perfect, but 1 call per week is much better than 1 call per day!
Doesn’t work anymore 2/5
This app used to be totally worth the price. I recommended it to everyone. However, at least where I live, the scammers have switched to spoofed local numbers, which this app doesn’t seem to block. My phone is back to ringing many times a day. I’m cancelling my subscription. Probably not the developers fault but, alas I’m paying for spam call blocking and it no longer does that reliably.
Stopped Working 2/5
Missing a ton of robocalls. Was bliss for a while. No app update on 4 months is a bit of a worry.
AWESOME APP! 5/5
This app has stopped about 98% of the calls I used to get. It’s a shame to see the negative comments but I think most folks don’t realize you need to leave the app running in the background to be most effective. Definitely worth the small subscription fee!!
Used for a while and now deleted as it was asking for my Apple ID password.
Did not stop calls 2/5
Calls still came in. Over 4 calls got Though in last few hours . Great concept. Wished it worked.
Needs a lot of work. 3/5
Definitely receiving less robocalls, but there is a serious update issue. Does not update automatically like its supposed to. I have to check it every so often and re start it to get it to refresh.
Doesn’t Block Any Calls 1/5
Calls ring thru as normal and don’t get blocked or flagged. Even their “test call” rings thru no problem. Only after the caller hangs up does the call show up flagged in recents. Using latest version of iOS. Have yet to find a call blocker that actually works...
Phew - finally an end to all the calls 5/5
I was receiving about 10-15 junk calls a day before installing Nomorobo. They always seemed to come at mealtimes too! So annoying. Now I get maybe 3 a week. Whenever I do receive a junk call, I report it to them so they can add it to the database. So glad to have this app!
Monthly fee to use this “free” app 1/5
By U.P. Lady
Why not tell us up front that there is a monthly fee to use this?
Doesn’t work AT ALL. 1/5
By Dog techno
I’ve been getting robo calls 2-4 times a day from an Indian sounding call center calling themselves American names at “Home Improvement.” They spoof local numbers and use auto dialers. I figured this app could detect an auto dialer and block it. Nope! They just ring through while I pay a monthly subscription fee to give THEM the numbers to add to their database. Canceled my trial after 2 days.
Diminishing returns - revisited 5/5
By A geologist in Florida
I have learned how to use this app, and now it works great. First, I needed to send all calls to voicemail. Second, put the app on your home screen. It will quietly inform you when it needs to refresh its database. Since doing these two things, I have never been bothered by a single robot call.
By Steve Toon
I have had a horribly frustrating last few weeks trying to make this app work on my iPhone 7 with up to date iOS. Every time I have tried it, it works well for a short time (24 hrs max, generally more like 6-8 hrs) and then it stops working. I’ve contacted their support and followed all their instructions (delete the app, reboot the phone, reinstall the app, redo the Settings), and again it works for a few hours and then stops. Maddening! I’ve kept trying for quite a while, because when it’s working, it’s great... but then it stops again. Now I’ve given up.
Not good enough 2/5
I’m still having up to 5 spam calls a day with this app enabled, so it is pretty much useless. It blocks some calls obviously, but not enough to justify the subscription cost.
Helpful, but mildly annoying 3/5
The app is helpful to identify reported robocallers, however sometimes the identification mechanism doesn’t work or show up in the call list.
Additionally, when I had my phone on Airplane Mode — i.e. no cellular/WiFi signal — I received a ‘push notification’ that my blacklist was out of date. Hmmmmm 🤔.
Great for land lines, worthless for mobile 1/5
We have Nomorobo for our land line and it works great. On my iPhone, though, it doesn’t do anything. All calls come through.
Poor design 2/5
What’s the point of “blocking” to call if you have to first approve the call? You still get the message from Nomorobo that you got a robocall. Useless! I don’t want messages from the spammers or nomorobo!
It’s ok 2/5
By Lone Star Wilson
Was really good at first - Paid for subscription upfront. Works about 1/2 time and seems buggy after latest update
Nomorobo is fantastic. I was signed up on the Do Not Call registry, but still got at least 3 or 4 robocalls a day. Since I signed up with Nomorobo about a year ago, I have had zero or one robocall a month at most.
Given my experience, I’m puzzled at the current 2.8 star rating. (It seems like bots at work.) This is totally a 5 star app.
I now have it in my home phone too, with similar 5 star results.
The results are phenomenal!! Try it!!!
Waste of money 1/5
Identifies only a small fraction of robo calls but most disappointingly the "send to voicemail" feature does not work.
This application is useless 1/5
I have subscribed to this application for a year and it has become more and more useless at stopping robocalls. I am cancelling my subscription!!!!
Terrible performance 1/5
Reports don’t work 80% of the time, seems like their backend services don’t scale, can’t use on multiple phones, text blocking doesn’t really work
Used to work great not anymore 3/5
Over the past few weeks the robo calls have been nonstop it used to block every one now it is blocking none. I’m canceling my subscription
Don’t waste your money 1/5
This app hasn’t blocked a single robo call since I purchased it (note* never pay for a year til you’ve tried something out - lesson learned) All I spend my time doing is REPORTING NUMBERS to them to add to their base and have not had a single robo call flagged by them. They can’t block them anyway so my advice? Save your money and don’t answer calls you don’t recognize - which is what I’m doing anyway with this app.
Doesn’t block anything 1/5
I have Nomorobo on my home phone and it works great. We use to get two to three dozen robocalls per day (my phone would ring almost nonstop). I decided to try the iPhone app too.
It worked for a while. It was getting about 50% of the spam calls. However, T-Mobile started offering a service where spam calls had their caller ID set to “Spam Likely” and I later discovered I could set up my account to not get these calls.
After that, Nomorobo has barely blocked any calls. I get a dozen or so robocalls per day and have taken to simply sending almost any call I get to voicemail.
I was excited about Nomorobo and it works great on my landline. I’m not sure why so many calls get through on my cellphone.
Spam keeps getting through 2/5
Spam calls from my area code seem to be the ones to get through.
You’re going to miss a few important calls 2/5
This app will definitely put an end to all those random phone numbers! The only problem is - it seems to block any 800 number too. This is a problem when you’ve got automated calls from your hospital, lenders, potential employers, etc. I still have this service, but I’m probably going to end it soon. It’s not worth it for me to miss *actually* important phone calls.
Blocks at least 90% of junk 5/5
It is not perfect, but the overwhelming majority of sh*t is blocked.
Doesn’t work and won’t issue refund 1/5
I used Nomorobo starting in 2016 but as the time went on, it lost its ability to block calls I added to the app let alone calls that didn’t have a caller ID etc. I canceled the subscription via the iTunes site on February 1, 2017 but they have billed me yet again for 2018. Buyer Beware!
Good app 4/5
Doesn’t catch them all but most. Good for the most part
Serious shortcoming! 1/5
I link my iPhone to my WiFi-only iPad Pro so I can make and take calls on my iPad. Nomorobo blocks calls on my iPhone, but cannot prevent them from ringing through to my iPad. So what’s the use of Nomorobo? In my case, it’s money wasted.
Doesn’t work 1/5
I constantly get spam type robocalls where different numbers with my area code constantly call me. I send to VM and they leave blank messages . I’ve had this app about 5 days and it doesn’t work.
Don’t love it... 2/5
I added home and cell phone. Home phone rings busy when hooked up and no one can get through. Cell phone only catches about 15% of calls and ha e to open app at least daily for it to update.
Can’t recommend it. 1/5
After the free trial I’m scrapping this.
Believe the Hype 5/5
tl;dr Believe the hype. This does everything it says it does.
I’ve been getting 1-2 robocalls a day for the past 6 months. I tried Truecaller, and it was basically worthless. Spammers were constantly changing their numbers and Truecaller failed to do even the most basic filtering and blocking functions it promised. If the number the spammer used didn’t happen to already be in the database, Truecaller would let it through no problem. Only after reporting it would it be added and blocked, which is useless as what are the odds they’d use it twice? It’s no better than blocking it manually.
NoMoRobo is everything Truecaller claims to be. I only installed the app about a week ago, but so far it hasn’t let a single call through. Even numbers that the app says haven’t been reported yet are getting flagged, which is exactly what I wanted. Even if it were an issue, it’s easy to whitelist numbers, and it doesn’t block voicemails, and any callers that are really important like from a bank usually leave a voicemail.
Again, I’ve only had this for about a week, and I don’t receive nearly as many calls as some people, but even if it only blocks 75% of spam calls, it is a MASSIVE improvement.
Used to work - now it doesn’t 2/5
When I first bought the app it was doing a great job screening robo calls. In the last few months it hasn’t caught one even though I average one a day. The spammers are smarter than this app now.
Hardly ever works, don't waste your money on a subscription 1/5
Update: 1/14/17: still rarely works. Problem reported in June of it turning itself off is worse. Don't waste your money on sub for this.
Update: 6/14/17: does not work at all anymore. Either the OS or this app keeps turning off the Nomorobo functionality in Settings - phone - call blocking.
The app does not refresh automatically as it should. Most robocall calls slip through and are not going directly to VM. Once one gets thru if I open the app it will update and mark the call as a robocall after it has already rang the phone without being IDed as a Robo. I should never need to open the app!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not worth paying for yet, needs work.
