Needs work 2/5
Have had many issues with it not turning on when needed. Also many sites don’t run with it on.
Have also had issues with it saying that I need a subscription when I have one.
Overall I find it to be a larger headache than it’s worth. I will be looking elsewhere when my subscription is up.

Been a while since my last review. So far, since returning 2018/12/14, it has been working most of the time on iPhone & iPad (both ver 184.108.40.2064 and IOS 12.1.1). A 2nd iPad is on ver 220.127.116.111 and IOS 9.3.5. It works too on Windows 32-bit desktop (ver 18.104.22.1685) & 64-bit laptop (ver 22.214.171.124) both running Windows 7 Professional SP1. Bravo Norton, you get another star. But there are still quirks:
#1 IOS devices on ver 126.96.36.1994 and IOS 12.1.1 - the “Ad Trackers” page no longer shows Block History for This Week, Last 30 Days and All Time. This info shows on the Windows processes and on the iPad running ver 188.8.131.521 and IOS 9.3.5. Since there is no rollback procedure available I worry that ver 3.0.3, now at the Apps Store, might bring back the nightmares. Holding off updating IOS devices.
#2 the Windows processes and/or services have a hard time reconnecting to a functioning VPN server once you disconnect from Wi-Fi then attempt to reconnect. Sometimes it succeeds, sometimes not. I’ve had to disable VPN when it cannot reconnect. Crap shoot.
#3 the Windows processes do not give you the option to download and install an updated version - it goes right ahead and does it then holds your online session hostage until you decide to reboot. NOT NICE and NOT FRIENDLY! Paying CUSTOMERS want CHOICE of when to download and install an update!
I have serious doubts whether things will be this smooth when traveling internationally. There are many carriers in many countries whose internet policies/protocols for IOS devices & PCs might not be VPN friendly.
For those with active subscriptions that include Secure VPN, I recommend logging into My Norton, tap on Support then leave Feedback. I seriously doubt Norton Support technicians read these reviews and therefore cannot know the unhappiness of their pi$$ed off paying customers.
For other unhappy users, Norton Q&A’s do not do “didley with a side of squat” for our issues. I suggest finding some way to be able to leave your fed-up feedback on the Norton website.
Good luck to us all who are without internet protection. In particular travelers who have no choice but to use unsecured public wifi network providers. And still Norton rakes in the subscription bucks.
For some strange reason VPN is working today almost as if a string of servers were rebooted facilitating VPN connections. Bravo Norton! you listened to pi$$ed off paying customers. Not changing the star rating until VPN service is consistent.
This forking thing turned into a piece of shi[r]t rather quickly. Problems started with ver 2.5.4 a few weeks ago. Now at ver 3.0.1 and it takes a full charge on the phone before this app finds a VPN server to talk to. Now at 77% charge and still no connection. You can’t have a wireless connection unless it finds a VPN server to talk to, you can’t change regions unless you already have an existing VPN connection. If you already have a VPN connection keep it because changing regions will disable VPN & wifi functionality as it attempts to find a VPN server. Burn this forking thing and give us back ver 1.something!
Although haven't yet had the opportunity to use on a public hotspot, I'm currently using it on my home wireless network. Not many steps to remember to establish connection: connect to wifi and surf with no perceptible app-induced slowness. I like it now, hope future updates do not spoil that.
Peace of mind 5/5
Finally a vpn that works. Thanks Symantec
App won’t configure connection 3/5
By Isaiah morris
App won’t configure connection after using Touch ID. I am connected to a connection and allowing the app to connect to it. App just won’t configure it.
Norton has been very inconsistent in the updates, trying to fix issues lately. Not cool after paying a subscription.
Faster than Express VPN 4/5
I bought express VPN and have been using it happily with no noticeable loss of browsing speed. I just started the trial of Norton Wi-Fi privacy. I tested upload and download speeds using Net Analyzer app over Verizon LTE cellular data without VPN and with each VPN. I also tested over hotel Wi-Fi without VPN and with each VPN. Norton VPN upload and download speeds were comparable to no VPN for both cellular data and Wi-Fi. Express VPN upload and download speeds were 10 times slower than Norton over cellular data. Over hotel Wi-Fi with Express VPN, the download speed was comparable to Norton but upload speed was again 10 times slower. Conclusion: Norton Wi-Fi VPN is highly competitive in speed, NOT slow, and it is a trusted name in security.
I have been using it constantly on for days with no problems at all.
Now I have been using it a year constantly on iPhone and Windows 10. Works great almost all the time. Occasionally it won’t connect, but updating the app solves that. Only one problem: I can’t connect to my (Windows 10) home network printer unless I turn it off. Not sure if that happens with any VPN. Also, rarely it goes off and I find out too late that it did. So I learned to check the VPN symbol. I wish they had a lock to stop internet traffic as long as the app is open and unless the VPN connects, like SurfEasy vpn does. Overall I feel very confident in the security, just need to be careful to ensure it’s connected.
Another year or more has gone by, and I have been using Norton Secure VPN most of the time on my iPhone, IPad, and Windows 10 systems. This week, I had it on all week on my iPad. This morning after checking my email and surfing with Safari, I noticed the VPN symbol was off. I checked settings and saw that “connect on demand” was set to ON. I checked the version in the App Store and saw that I am using the most current version. I checked my IP address and confirmed that I had been browsing online without VPN protection. This has been happening on iOS since I first started using the VPN. I trust Symantec/Norton as the best name in security, but without a network lock feature you need to be vigilant to confirm that it is actually engaged. Most important before walking into a public network that you have joined before. On Windows, it stays on reliably once turned on but it won’t auto-start when I restart the computer even thoughI have the current version and have it set to run on startup.
Help my I phone 2/5
My phone is being held hostage by Norton VPN.
There are some site that won’t work when it’s on and I know that.
Problem is I can’t turn it off. It doesn’t respond to turn of vpn on its screen...go to settings...toggle turn off vpn...it comes back on !! It has a mind of it’s own.
Only way to get out is to delete the app! Then just try and pull it back from the cloud and reinstall it...dare you...
15 minutes later and 30% power loss...you might be there.
No choice but to give it a 2 because I know it works but it isn’t behaving properly.
My Apple iPad Secure VPN app has stopped working. I’m getting the following message:
VPN Connection - An unexpected error occurred.
It works when it wants to; Sometimes I cannot turn it on; it has been frustrating. When it wants to work; then it’s fine, I expect Norton to be the best but I am still searching
More recently, it has significantly improved so I have changed my rating to a 4 instead of a 3
After recent update 4/5
By Dean Troi
With the most recent update from a few days ago, this app is working again. The only issue now is that the insecure network warning still jumps up even though I do have the vpn protection engaged. No big deal, just annoying sometimes.
Beware misleading 1/5
This app is horrible. First, it’s says free for the the initial 30 days, but the app is not usable. You can’t navigate in it or not. In order to deactivate auto renew you are suppose to go to settings; but you don’t have access to that option. BEWARE AND STEER CLEAR. USE ANOTHER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been using this service for almost 2 years and have no complaints. I have it on my tablet, laptop and desktop.
Norton Secure VPN 5/5
Works really good haven’t had any problems Add blocker stops tracking of footprints 👣 have to turn it off for a couple of apps in order to use them.👍✅
Top notch! 4/5
The price is right,& the connections are reliable.
Works good so far 4/5
By Dedicated Chevy Customer
Does what it is supposed to do.
Your app is telling me to turn it on and when I try nothing happens
not working 1/5
it work for about 2 months then stop working and no option to send complain from the application , i need to go to the website but it did’t give you the option to complain about this APP , now i need it working or my money back.
Best VPN by far!! 5/5
You get way more with Norton and I have tried them all. It also syncs with your browser and accounts. It is the fastest as well. Well worth it.
I feel more secure 5/5
I feel so much more secure on the Internet now that I have Norton VPN. So far it has not slowed my services down at all.
Old man 5/5
By Harry the forgetter
Excellent app security perfect
I wish... but 2/5
I bought this app after reading reviews indicating it works reliably and would not slow connection speed. However my experience is otherwise. I tested it today. Wifi speed at Starbucks in Bangkok dropped from above 20 MBS to mere 0.2 after turning this VPN app on. A hundred fold slowing down. This made any practical use impossible and I had turn the app off.
In public area where I stay in Bangkok the wifi speed dropped from around 12 MBS to 2 MBS after activating VPN, still usable but irritatingly slow.
Amazingly at home the wifi speed drop was only marginal.
Conclusion, it is unpredictable and can be unusable in many places.
Great sense of security 4/5
Love Norton for my phone, since it gives me a sense that my information is protected. Upgraded my phone and now can’t get VPN to work. I open in the App Store, update and there is an error message every time I try to open it.
Always crashes each time I opened.. 3/5
Always crashes on my iphone XS Max.
Splendid Solution for Unsecured WiFi 5/5
By Grey Wizard4
Delighted with my new ‘WiFi only’ iPad Pro and armed with a Personal Hotspot on my iPhone, my assumption was that all desired bases were covered. Then we arranged for extended service to Mexico and Canada with our cellular service provider. For some unexplained reason, we consequently lost our Personal Hotspot. Norton VPN has proven an excellent solution, with no apparent reduction in data transfer rate.
This is a free trial they will charge you 1/5
Be careful you will be charge without knowing!!!!
will not turn on iphone current iso 1/5

I geuss to big to have a contact us in the app.
please fix this Norton Team
Won’t connect to VPN server on WiFi 1/5
Literally, it can’t connect to the VPN server when connected to ANY Wi-Fi - works ONLY when using cellular data. USELESS protection when connected to a hotspot.
A big hassle 2/5
All you will get is a white blank screen. Then no notifications about the trial ending , which wouldn’t work, and you get charged. Once I was charged I tried using the program. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times. After an hour I gave up. Norton is a joke.
I ended up getting it to work. Due to uninstalling it and reinstalling it it locked up and said I used up all my seats. So I had to move the license from my iPad to my iPad which was the same device. Since I’m now locked in a year contract I will be using it. Then cancelling it before the yearly renewal starts. Very disappointed.
Best purchase ever 5/5
This product is incredibly awesome. It notifies about unsafe pages and protects my browsing from cookies that tracks. I had noticed less pop ups since I purchased it. I truly recommend this to anyone looking for protection from instrucive web trackers
Show VPN Up at all times 4/5
I’m enjoying the Norton VPN app. Suggestion: can you work with Apple to have the VPN box always visible (upper right on iPhone) same as WiFi and cell signal strength? Its up in certain situations but not all.
It’s important that people know if/if not protected at all times.
Excellent vpn 5/5
I use this on my iphone and ipad when traveling away from my own firewalled network. I also use the windows app on my desktop. Speed is excellent. I measure 90%+ on my desktop, and see no perceptible (measured) speed degradation on my iphone or ipad. Only once in the last two years (in my experience) was there a major slowdown — probably a server issue.
I renewed my subscription a few months ago. I recommend it as a capable vpn.
Won’t open 1/5
It appears that I have now paid twice for this app. It will not open on my phone. I have defeated and reloaded this app several times with the same lack of initiation. Total zero.
Improved, but—Seriously? No landscape mode? 2/5
App is improving, but it has never had a landscape mode. How about paying a 14 year old to fix your app for you, Norton? This is amateur stuff...
Turning on and off 3/5
By Tito Berrios
In order to turn VPN on and off I always have to close and open the app. This is very frustrating.
Avoid Norton AT ALL COST 1/5
This is probably the worst if not the crapiest VPN on the planet. It may seem enticing because of the price but avoid it, go professional don’t use Norton’s piece of crap VPN. If you need help it’ll take days and hours with their stupid customer support people that have no idea what they’re talking about. You’ll have to solve the problem using Google and it’ll take you about a fraction of the time. If you go Norton you’ll be mad at yourself forever!
Licensing Issues 2/5
By The Unlettered Non-Prophet
The program worked well during the trial, so I paid for a license. After the license expired, however, the program left me high and dry. Stopped functioning and wouldn’t work for anything. There was no handoff between trial and paid licenses, despite deleting and re-downloading the application, then trying my paid license. It left me unprotected in a hostile place and I had my accounts hacked. I can’t get hold of a person to help, either. Not happy.
Get your act together Norton. You’ve taken my money but I can’t log in 1/5
This is one step removed from the monster a scam. Did you hire Bernie Madoff? You charge my card 30 bucks and are putting me through this enormous rigmarole to try and login. I’m using their VIP supposedly great protection app for two-factor authentication. But when it sends the code it send me back to the Norton screen and then it just freezes. So I shut everything down reboot the phone try and login and then the whole thing starts all over again. This is ridiculous get your act together Norton. If you can’t get a login right, how can you possibly protect my phone from outside intrusion? My phone shows that I am connected through a VPN. Is it Norton VPN? When I click on the app it makes me login as though it doesn’t even recognize I have a subscription. So do I even need you? Is this one monstrous waste of 30 bucks? I logged into my Apple account so you can’t steal another $30 next year. Then I get a message that I want to log in, I have to approve the charge for next year. Oh - and I still can’t log in. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!!!!
Work at home where I don’t need it 1/5
This app needs a lot of work. It works ok while I’m at home but when I go out, it does not work. I don’t need it at home, I need it for when I’m out using other Internet connections that are not secure, unfortunately it doesn’t work or very rarely works. I have called and they told me to delete it and reinstall it which I did and it worked for a little bit and then back to not working at all. I don’t think the fix should be to delete and reinstall every time it starts to not work. I’ve used Norton products in the past and been satisfied with them. Not this one. Does not do what it claims to do.
Used Norton for years, new to VPN. TROUBLE ON IPHONE NOT CONNECTING 10% 4/5
By MR. BIG2
Every thing is great, ever since I have been using VPN I have noticed that my iPhone will not automatically switch to WiFi when I get home like it used to. Also cellular service has slowed considerably and I have the iPhone X’s. But I guess small price to pay for security!
Easy to use, usually, some learning curve 4/5
By RF Indiana
Little learning curve to get it up and running.
Did have an instance at a hotel where clicking the button to activate seemed locked out. So, turned off iPad and restarted and seemed easy to run then. Probably an operator error on my part.
Simple overall, I recommend.
Need to fix 2/5
Really disappointing NOT to see the VPN icon active especially on public WiFi (after two minutes of doing other things like eating) it just shuts off. My info should be secured at times not just when I have my phone in hand. Also when auto selecting a region why am I ONLY able to connect in New York or California???
Best to down low if you want to watch the hate you give best thing over
App works great 3/5
By Rodolfo de Oliveira
3 star is mostly for the fact is does not include countries it really should - like India! C’mon Symantec...
Works great, easy to use.
Glitchy after last major update 3/5
By Bilbo Speedbaggins
This used to work fine until the last major update. Now, when you want to turn off or turn on the VPN, you have to restart the app. If you don’t, you’ll just keep clicking on the ‘turn on’ or ‘turn off’ button to no effect. Please fix.
Horrible waste of money 1/5
This might be the most problematic app I’ve ever purchased. It frequently prevents my WiFi from working. The blue circles just go around and around and once in a while the VPN will connect, but more frequently it won’t. If it doesn’t, my WiFi doesn’t work. Sometimes, I use “reset network settings” and re-enter my WiFi password. Once in a while that works to get the VPN and WiFi working together and sometimes it doesn’t. I have also tried turning off and on the WiFi. Again, sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn’t.
I’m wondering if this promise of security is worth all of the time and frustration I’m putting in to this.
There must be a better WiFi VPN that is more reliable and easier to use.
Doesn’t work all the time 3/5
By Elliot F.
There must be a quirk with IPhones because at times I try and activate the VPN but it doesn’t work.
Not worth it. Just get a free app with no subscription. 1/5
So I was really excited for this app mainly because I love this brand but I can’t stand the whole subscription why should I spend $29.99 a year when there are apps for free that does the same thing but it’s free. I’m already paying for a subscription and I don’t really wanna pay more. It’s ridiculous to pay for more when you can just get a free app.
App functionality 1/5
The app does not communicate with the control button in settings. Turning VPN on and off can only be done in settings. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app twice. Most recently yesterday. The app remains in the off position no matter what the button is set to in the settings menu.
