Horrible app 1/5
I got this app so my child and I could identify edible plants while hiking... but it couldn’t even properly identify the Aloe plant in my office. Seems like a good app to use if ya don’t mind poisoning yourself
Confirmed doesn’t work, developer retaliation for real feedback, no support available 1/5
Update 4: For anyone wanting to try this app, please read the developer responses to my feedback to see how unprofessional and discourteous they are.
The reviews are either one star or five stars. Reading them would identify which are real and which are not. There’s zero support and subscription money is a waste. Very surprised at the developers claim that they are being promoted by Apple and Google!
Update 3: It’s been 3 weeks and I haven’t changed my opinion. I was directed to write to customer support, and their response takes a long time (as opposed to 24-hours mentioned). I sent pictures for helping in identifying. No other reply received than the standard automated acknowledgment. This app is either unfinished or fake. Either way, best to ignore the fake reviews and read the real ones that capture the limitations. I don’t understand why such developers are allowed to offer subscriptions on App Store.
Update 2: Seems this developer spends all time retaliating to real reviews here. 96% identification rate is a false claim and this should be checked by Apple. There is no support other than an automated email. They claim that real botanist can help in identification but not so in practice. Most reviews are fake. Better free options available. My suggestion is to stay away from this one. Check for yourself before subscribing.
Update: After the developer response to the review, I contacted them through email as suggested. However, they do not send any reply. What’s the point in paying a subscription or a high upfront fee if the promised service can not be provided? Further, they claim a 24x7 support through LIVE global agents but in reality it’s nothing more than an automated acknowledgement.
The 5 trial pictures are not enough to test the app. Asked to pay monthly or an expensive upfront. Success rate of identification is not even 5%. AI and auto modes are useless. Send pic by email for identification but no reply. Lengthy and confusing instructions to put the fault on the user. Big claims but bad performance.
I’ve been unable to get accurate identification of plants, even the ones I know.
Not identifying correctly 2/5
The app is fairly intuitive and easy to use. I find the limit on the number of pictures you can take on the free app super obnoxious since it’s full of ads and that is generally where apps differ between free and premium.
But the biggest issues is that it is not identifying trees correctly. For many of them, the options listed would have very little similarities (other than having green leaves). And then a pop up would appear suggesting you look at the tutorials, which I did - they were, essentially, useless. Anyone using the app to the point where that pop up would have appeared would have already grasped the fundamentals shown in the tutorial videos.
Punchline: really glad I didn’t pay for the premium app.
Not as Helpful as I imagined 2/5
What has me stumped , is also what has the app stumped. I took some test snaps and it wasn’t very successful in identifying plants.
DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS.
Plant snap 4/5
Love this fun App have not explored it too much yet. I would like to see the common name for the plant too.
Basically useless 1/5
I’ll keep it short. Roughly 20 attempts at identification and have had 2 semi-successful results. True story
requires sign up 1/5
yet another app that requires you to sign up for no practical purpose other than to sell your data to third parties. Dont bother downloading
More like Plant Crap 1/5
Update: I use this app every now and then to see if it can help identify a plant but most times it’s wrong and searching on google usually gives me a lot better results. I stick to what I said. The app is decent, DECENT, at best and doesn’t deserve anything above two stars. As for the developers of this app, they DO NOT take constructive criticism from consumers well. In turn they rather leave passive aggressive comments instead of improving their sub par app. All of us from the plant community appreciate your efforts but we’d rather not hear back until your app is in working market condition. Appreciate your feedback but again... NEXT.
Another update: If you see any positive feedback for this app, more than likely it was made by the developer. The reviews that state this app works, are clearly just the developer trying to put good reviews to outweigh the bad. Don’t waste your time with it, trust all the bad reviews.... the app is terrible at identifying. I use the app ‘PICTURE THIS’, isn’t the best but does a heck of a lot better job at identifying than Plant Snap.
Not impressed 1/5
By Mama Mel 911
I think this app purposely doesn’t give you an accurate suggestion for a plant, so you’ll purchase the premium plan. The suggestions they offered didn’t even have the same flower or leaf!
Broken and bothersome 1/5
This is a great THOUGHT, but it’s nothing more than another downloaded waste of time. Keep your memory on your phone and just use google or any other free online source.
It works! 5/5
Honestly didn’t have high expectations, but it works pretty well. Not always right but have definitely been able to identify some plants I would have struggled to otherwise! Very cool app!
Couldn’t identify anything 1/5
By notgiving myname
I tried multiple different plants and flowers. Doesn’t work and too many ads
Didn’t identify 1/5
Did NOT work for Western MA garden. But neither did another app.
AI isn’t always I. Intelligence.

Not a free app after taking a few pic I get message I have used 8 of 25 free pic I can purchase for .49 cents per week 9.99 a month or purchase for 19.00 per year
Random answers 1/5
This app does not give you actual answers it will give you random results I tested it on a few of my plants and trees to try it out and see if it works it just gives you a random plant name.
Great App for folks like me 5/5
I don’t know the names of plants that I like and this really helps
Not helpful 1/5
This app has not been able to properly identify any plant I try it on. It also gives no info about the region plants grown in and hardly any common names. It’s useless.
This is great I’m learning a lot
Cool but disappointed 1/5
I’ve snapped some very easy and common house plants, most don’t show up
Great app, very effective 5/5
Works very well in my situation, glad someone was able to make this a usable app!
By Meme Rushton
Getting errors still hadn’t told me what the plant is that I’ve taken the picture of.
Not accurate 1/5
UPDATE—developer says my problem is user error. Right. Because being a photographer, I must not know by now how to frame anything. This app is faulty. Period.
Original review: To test this app, I pointed it at an Australian Fern Tree. The app said it was cannabis! I pointed it at lantanas. It said they were forget-me-nots. This app has been deleted and my quest for a plant ID-er continues.
Wild strawberry’s 5/5
I love this because I have different things coming up in the back yard. I think some of it is coming from the birds pooping in the yard. Thus wild strawberries and blackberries too.😊
Out of snaps... 2/5
By Eke ejected
This app makes you have 5 snaps before you must pay money for premium! I rate this 2/5 star!
Doesn’t work. 5/12/19 1/5
By BB dah'ling
It tried 5 times and I knew the name. Just trying out the app.
My concern 2/5
By Ana Joaquina
The ad in Portuguese says that it is free. When I tried to down load it, It said that I had already bought it. Is the ad false advertising or what?
Doesn’t work 1/5
Multiple pictures of common plants and trees and no success. But more than that, and I know I’m not the only one, I hate when an app says free and then when you get the app, it forces the user to watch ad after ad after ad for the bare minimum. Then they give you an ultimatum to pay if you don’t want to see ads. I’d probably pay the $.99 or whatever it is for unlimited if you just came out and asked for it upfront. But not after going to conniving route. I recommend people try another app first.
Didn’t match my first few snaps 2/5
By christina's review
I downloaded this from an ad, testing it out and won’t be keeping it. I tested a few pictures from my yard that I’ve already identified and the app was incorrect. I don’t see the value in paying for this type of app when Google is usually just as good if not better. I was using picture this with success but they changed their free model. It’s a great app, still not paying for it though. I’ll continue to look for an app that does the trick. Good user experience (outside of the 8 hour thing), just wish the match rate was better.
If I could give this NO stars I would. Does not accurately identify plants. What came up was not at all what the plants were. Had to input myself what they are. Deleting app!!!
The names of my plants dont always match what the apps calls it. Plus it dont know the less common plants in my yard.
Horrible App 1/5
I have tried this app with multiple plants and it hasn’t gotten one right yet. I tried it twice with a plant and it got it wrong twice. Plus giving me two different plants. Deleting it now!!
Worst app ever 1/5
So I was trying to figure out what a plant was called so I downloaded the app but I tested it on mint, tomato and lemon balm but guess what it was not accurate at all they put so random plants that I don’t even know about as possible matches seriously how hard is it to identify it as a mint plus don’t even get me started on 5 snaps before you have to wait 8 hours for more at this point this app is useless I want to see an update or I’m deleting this app it only deserves 2 stars at most
Really works! 5/5
This is has been so helpful.
Oh 4 Five 1/5
The app could not identify any of the five plants I tried it on. After 5 snaps it shuts you off for 24-hours unless you purchase the upgraded version. Why would I pay anything for an app that cannot do the basic job it was designed for?
Completely useless 1/5
I did a trial run on a rose bush. Didn’t ID it correctly. Blueberry Bush. Same thing. Poison Ivy, same thing. The app was a complete fail for me. 👎
Not always clear! 4/5
I know nothing about plants. Sure, I can tell an Oak from a Maple. But recently, I moved into a home that’s established in its flora and fauna. I want to be able to tell a weed from a marvelous specimen. PlantSnap has enabled me to do that. But, it’s not always a clear picture. I will play around with the camera part of it so as to take better pictures.
You are right!! When I actually READ the instructions and followed them, it worked GREAT!! Thank you!!
When the app works it’s pretty cool but mostly it doesn’t work. It certainly is unreliable. I am disappointed that I paid for it
Wrong plant 1/5
It keeps identifying my plants wrong
Is overall bad at identifying plants 1/5
I was excited that I finally found an app to identify plants. I took a pic of the plant and it identified the plant wrong. I took 5 more snaps of the same plant and each time it told me that the plant was something different. I finally had to not- rely on the app and go onto the internet to figure it out myself to which I did. Something I wanted to avoid in the first place. It’s not worth the trouble of getting this app for free and certainly not worth paying for it.
Still some bugs ( no pun intended) 3/5
Keeps freezing on me after a couple of shots
I have to leave app and come back later
By Uncle Tudd
I’ve probably taken 10 or 15 pictures of plants and trees. Out of all of them it has never identified a plant correctly and it might have gotten 1 tree right. I’m canceling the app.
Could do better 4/5
Although the app has a wide variety of possibilities for identifying I wish they had a general care for the plants it would be so helpful to know what those plants need and how to care for them ! I love that the app helps keep track of what plants I have but I need to know there needs as well and maybe a list of possible pests and ways to get rid of them + a community on plant types from succulent to cactus to trees and more people help people and this would make this app the most useful thing ever!!!!
Worthless in Hawaii 1/5
By Reba l
3 out of 3 plants so obviously wrong I deleted it same day. Tried a leaf from a Amherstia—(a flowering tree from Burma)—it suggested a mushroom.
Great idea but it’s not accurate at all.
Walk through woods 5/5
Love it ! Now I know what I am at!
Instead of just being a blooming idiot 😝!
Not really clear 3/5
By Spider guy on the 4S 2012
A lot of the pics are blurry and even when they aren’t the pic is of the flowering portion only. It takes more than that to confidently identify a plant.
