PlantSnap Plant Identification app reviews

  • Inconsistent and unhelpful 1/5

    By Jimmy Stacks
I took 5 different pictures of the same plant and got five different answers of what the plant should be, none of which were correct. This app is a scam, would not recommend.
  • It’s ok i guess 2/5

yes i am a real person but i got bored and decided to try something with this app. i took a picture of my tv with a persons face in it and it showed up as a random japanese plant so i deleted it. i also tried a real plant once that didn’t work either
  • Not for me 1/5

    By jinberish
I took a photo of the same plant 3 times and it came up with something different each time.
  • Different plant 3/5

    By hhediff
Sometimes a different plant other then the one I took a picture of shows up.
  • Milk weed 5/5

I didn’t know that there was different Milkweeds

This app makes it so easy to identify plants, weeds, trees, vines! I use it a lot!
  • Notifications after midnight 🙄 1/5

    By deeemgee4932
It’s a decent app or whatever but what kind of app sends useless Push notifications EVERY NIGHT after midnight??? So stupid and annoying. “Check out this photo of the week” okay but why would I want to do that at 12:15am? I don’t. I want to be asleep.
  • Feel totally suckered ... 1/5

    By PapaBear3506
Never gets it right despite reading and following all directions ... Also never responded when I requested further help ... So disappointed ... Should have never paid the “forever” price ... Feel completely ripped off ...
  • Disappointing 2/5

    By KyGoldy
This app doesn’t discuss problems with plants. Only tells you the name of the plant. Nothing about any bugs or diseases.
  • Not accurate 2/5

    By ltydjpisr
This app showed the plant group but missed on the species.... Virginia Rose came up dog rose from Europe I’m in the USA .... black eye Susan was sunflower then on second try was soapwort .... not impressed. I am using the free version so maybe with an upgrade it’s more accurate ? My photos are clear. the black eyed Susan was a photo of the plant , the rose was a photo of the flower ... Tried a total of 6 plants , this app got two correct .... will be deleting.
  • 1/5

    By Xarhelm
I have a couple herbs I planted, and I wanted to see if they were growing or if it was something else. So far, I got results for 2 plants that 1) I didnt plant (okay...that’s what I was checking for) and 2) dont grow where I, not even on this continent. I “checked” it with my common sage that I planted from a plant. It told me it was a crocus. Deleting this app. I’ll keep waiting in my herbs.
  • Glad I didn’t pay for it 1/5

    By geogh3
Identifying plants in my yard to test and so far about 50% right and interesting how it gives you a different plant if you try three different times. Took a clear photo of my apple tree leaf and the app said it’s a hydrangea. Tried again and it’s a weed. So maybe an apple tree isn’t in the data base.
  • Awful gets it wrong everytime. 1/5

    By Nick Rose 7219756
I’ve snapped tomato plants, maple leaves, cherry trees and many others and it was wrong every time. Trash honestly but good luck with it. Also costs money after 10 snaps.
  • Fun 5/5

    By Jiminy XMAS
One of the best apps I’ve ever used.
  • Not for me 1/5

    By in76012
Expect to sign up with a password, then be hit by offers to join more sites and finally pick a payment plan. The registration screen locks up your phone causing you to restart it to clear the screen. Ugh! 🤮
  • Rarely Accurate 1/5

    By hhtsbjdchf
This APP seems to think every wild plant and flower is some domestic garden species. Rarely accurate. Maybe I was expecting more. Some suggestions are quite far fetched.
  • Newly installed and crashes 1/5

    By Auzzie2596
Just installed the app and it keeps crashing before I can even take a picture. Fix your janky app please.

    By Popmomma
I downloaded the app on a recommendation and tried photos for eight plants in my yard. The results for all eight plants were incorrect. Deleted app

  • Incredible easy way to identify plants 5/5

    By Tnishome45
I love this app. It’s incredible that it’s free! Just take a picture and it’s identified. You can then save it and it will show you the location of the plant also. Love it!
  • Always wrong 1/5

    By bonnstarr
After a bunch of strange results we decided to try something simple. App couldn’t properly identify an oak leaf.
  • Not impressed 1/5

    By 250daly
So far I’ve taken three pictures of the same plant and the app has come up with three different names.

  • Free is better 2/5

    By cypress411
The free version of this app worked well so I bought it. Now almost every submission is wrong and we tested on a regular basis.

  • Awesome! 5/5

    By Lavender Jo
I love finding out what these plants are ! I have a huge yard and some forest and I can now see what all this actually is !
  • Doesn’t get basic plants 2/5

    By 1travelingGirl123987
I watched the tutorial. And then I tested it on plants and flowers that I KNEW the name of. Out of ten, it only got one (a hosta). It could not even identify common vinca flowers or impatiens. This didn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling that it would get anything else right. Oh.. it got vinca vines right too, so it seems to work better on leaves, not flowers, for me.
  • Cool concept. 2/5

    By M6Tina
Very cool concept but it identified 4 of the 5 plants I knew wrongly. Yes, I watched the instruction video. It identified a poppy as a hibiscus. And when I looked to see if there were other plant people in my area...I was the only one. Unless I pay! Nice try. I’ll be deleting the app. I guess I’ll be having drinks in the garden with my local plant expert so she can ID them for me. For free.

    By Hippee Hula
I used it for the first time this evening.
  • Meh 1/5

    By Cribbage Nut
Too many obvious misidentifications. Some don’t even come close to the photo. Then, all of a sudden, I’m told I’ve used up my daily allotment and must wait several hours before I can use it again, unless I pay money.
  • This app only identifies plants/flowers 1/5

    By Loveablekelsey
This app only identifies plants/flowers. I want to be able to know how to care for the plant/flower after I identified it.
  • Doesn't seem accurate so far 3/5

    By Slumbertime101
I'm going to continue to use this and reserve final judgment until later. However, at least half of the suggested identifications do not appear correct to me. And, this includes both the primary recommendations and all of the alternates. Unfortunately, since I am relying on the app to identify the plants for me, I can't be 100% sure that what I am assessing as incorrect are not just normal variations in the plant appearance. I certainly understand the limitations of image-recognition technology and do not fault the app developers for my experience so far. Perhaps I am just snapping rather obscure plants. In any event, I will return later to update this review and my rating if my ongoing experience warrants that.
  • Didn’t even come close 1/5

  • It’s an apple tree! 1/5

    By John Michael Kane
Took three pictures of an apple tree, gave three different results with one saying it was endangered. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  • Disappointing 2/5

    By wardies4
Has anyone else found this app to have deteriorated? When I first used it, loved it. Now I’m getting so many wrong identities to photos I upload. What’s happened?
  • Easy to use 4/5

    By digitalpa
    Works well and easily.
  • Wow 5/5

    By wytheview
Happy for one who is ignorant about plant taxonomy
  • Nice mine!! 3/5

    By Aliya Meri WK
I'm pretty sure this app was all my idea in 2012/2013
  • Very inaccurate 1/5

    By figgie
I snapped 3 images of 3 different plants that I knew. Each ID was totally wrong. I even took a second image of one plant and it gave two different ID’s of same plant.
  • I was skeptical 5/5

    By Stephanieorlando1989
But I just did all my plants in my house and it was correct every time!
  • Don’t pay for Premium 2/5

    By Zoxd
Started with free version. App identifies most plants accurately. Thought I’d get better with Premium but see ZERO difference. Doesn’t seem like anyone monitors the Community site. It’s cluttered with annoying non-plant related photos. Use it free but don’t waste your money.
  • Don’t waste your time 1/5

    By CompletelyJaded
This app is garbage. I don’t think it correctly identified one plant. Keep scrolling.....
  • Keep crashing on iPhone 8plus 3/5

    By Garden Girl2020
    Crashes after taking pictures
  • Unreliable 1/5

    By sickofshitthatdoesntwork
I took 4 different pictures of the same plant and got 4 different answers?
