Always the best 5/5
Been reading since 1970 but issues going back to 1953
Always enjoy hearing about the latest mechanical developments.
Great savings 5/5
This is my one remaining digital publication and I am looking to get more. Not only is the price great, but I don’t have to search for it and if I’m done, it isn’t necessary to recycle it. When I go to my summer house, it follows me!
Fixed some issues 3/5
By T. Jinkinz
At least i can read the articles now. Would be nice if i could actually open the pdf of the nag in my own pdf reader, but this works ok.
Advertise as education ??? 1/5
I give one star because advertising in this book are too many as pay monthly for education? We don't need ads every other pages per education as we either enjoyed or not enjoyed reading and learning. I would put fewer ads at the very back end of the page. I'm so sick of see ads every where......
Pure garbage 1/5
This app is broken in every sense of the term. Now I have to wait 4-6 weeks for my next paper issue. Rip off
Cant read the mag.. 1/5
When will this be fixed . Its at least been since early feb its now may...is anybody home?
Completely broken for days now 1/5
Gives cannot load error on WiFi and cell data. Both work fine. Oh and stop writing “articles” to sell crap for advertisers, thanks.
Great app, but new version not working. 5/5
The interface is not working well on my iPad Pro. ‘Contents” button does not work. Swiping and scrolling do not always work.
Need a new update! Can’t read after the last update. Can’t swipe pages.
New Version is totally useless. 1/5
Can’t swipe from page to page, contents button exits magazine, and even when you do get to contents, the links don’t work. I literally cannot read the magazine anyway. Copy some other magazine that works please, like pops science. I hate having different interfaces on every dang magazine I read!
Very limited 2/5
No options to adjust font size. Portrait orientation only. Not really formatted for iPad. Popular Science would be an example of an Magazine that IS formatted for iPad.
Bought a subscription, but to get the next month, it wants to charge me. I followed all of the instructions in the faq's, including logging out and back in, uninstalling and reinstalling, etc. nope. Such a pain. They technology is so old school and doesn't work.
This used to be a five star digital magazine, but now it has been reduced to one star. Do not waste your money purchasing the new editions. I will be cancelling my subscription. I don't know why the format was changed. It used to be a truly interactive experience. Now you just zoom in to read the text, then move on to the next article.
Just a PDF viewer, really. 1/5
It's not like you can tap an article and it expands to a readable size and format, or that you can touch the table of contents and jump to an article. It's just a non interactive, non scaled for smart phone, page by page scan of the full blown paper format magazine. And it's unmanageable and horrid, requiring zooming and swiping and losing your place in the middle of the document, etc, therefore making great substance impossible to read.
PM Magazine Digital App 5/5
Appsolutely 👍 Love It
Love the mag! 5/5
I've been buying Popular Mechanics off magazine racks for years now and finally decided to subscribe to the electronic edition. I love it; it's very user friendly and allows you to save your favorite articles and tips into albums. Definitely worth the subscription price.
Easy To Use 5/5
Pro: Simple, easy to navigate, and intuitive
Con: Instructions on the subscription page weren't that clear on how to access the issues.
Does not download the recent magazines 1/5
It used to be quite good, but now it just doesn't work. It is just unable to download the recent monthly editions. I am still working with customer service for the past week to resolve the issue. They seem to be clueless.
Still the Best 5/5
For many years this has been and still is the best publication on make mechanical devices.
Love this magazine, one snag 5/5
The cover page for some issues gets 80% loaded but then never finishes. Everything else works great though. Not a huge deal because the cover isn't really something you read.
Worst app ever 1/5
Run inning latest iOS it is buggy and won't download in the background
Fast Loading - Great Read 5/5
I've been reading the Popular Mechanics magazine since 1967 and I still love it. The digital version downloads at lightning speed because it's zipped (unlike other digital magazines I subscribe to). Highly recommended!
Doesn't fully download content for offline viewing 2/5
I subscribe to several digital magaines. This interface/app is my least favorite. Even though you download the magazines to your device they don't actually fully download. Instead it finishes the download only when you try to read or view that page. So for offline viewing it's pointless.
Popular mechanics 5/5
We all know about the magazine, but have you read it on a smart phone or mobile device? If not check it out you won't be disappointed.
By Big Ro7
Something interesting to read
Not formatted for device 2/5
You've got to be kidding. Magazine pages just dumped onto the tiny iPhone screen. How 2001.
Glad I'll be getting the physical magazine.
Popular Mechanics 4/5
I like the user interface of the digital magazine. Can be a lengthy download with weak wifi.
very accessible 4/5
I was directed here after reviewing the newsstand app in the iOS 9 update. The popular mechanics sample digital magazine looks very interesting. The nicest feature is being able to store clips from the magazine onto your phone or iOS device.
Great content, bad app 1/5
The issues don't download completely. Contacted tech support - they said it's called progressive downloading. You get the cover loaded, then at some point in your life the rest of the issue will load. Nooooope. Impossible to read offline because it decided not to download articles. You get the fuzzy image and a "loading" bar that loads forever even on the fastest wifi.
Ok when it works 2/5
Very glitchy. Ok when it works. Often can't download new issues without going thru some form of re-log.
Ok I guess since I just downloaded it.
Excellent execution 5/5
First, I have no affiliation with the publisher.
Beautiful; photography, illustrations, layout and function. Stories are well curated. Writing is interesting and clever. Bought a issue from kindle for iPad, horrible. Just a PDF shrunk down.IPad app. Is totally different; easy to read, navigate, with fun interaction. One of the better magazines out there.
This app is indicative of why Popular Mechanics are succeeding when so many other traditional American magazines are failing. Very well put together, instantly available, works seamlessly on iOS on an iPad or iPhone. And the magazine itself is as cutting edge and informative as ever. Nice to see some things never change! Definitely recommended. 5/5 Stars!
Is it going to happen?
Subscription just ran out and not renewing 2/5
Due to not accommodating paid paper subscriptions and the long history of lack and poor customer service provided by Popular Mechanics I have decided to let my subscription run out and not renew it this time. I had a 5yr prepaid print subscription yet the Popular Mechanics wouldn't allow me to change my subscription from print to digital, allow me access to digital without paying for another subscription, or even allow me access to back issues. Almost every other digitally published magazine (now including Popular Science) allows print subscription access to digital.
Great Graphics 4/5
It's a fun way to carry and read on the road. I subscribe to the "paper" copy, and would get both if there was a special offer! I love passing the mag on to others while keeping issues, for future reference, on my iPad.
Add iPhone 6 Plus Optimization 1/5
Basically scanned pages... Poor experience
Very disappointed 1/5
By Chet tj
Looked at 3 paper issues.
I've seen more skill & inventiveness in 1927 PM issues than current articles that lend me to believe men now days don't even know how to hammer a nail.
Three PM locations for "create password" the web page buying a digital subscription, then sign in on my I-pad, then change password via e-mail link, ALL have different requirements! One requires a capital letter, another you cannot use a symbol like $, and one min 6 digits, another more didgets! What do you call a mag that can't manage its password requirements!
By The enthusiastic
Love this mag should be where the tabloids are in the grocery stores maybe then people will learn useful info instead of who got plastic surgery lol
PopSci App is GREAT! 5/5
By Long Timer Reader
I have read PS for nearly 50 years starting with my father's subscription (both PS and PM). The added content possible with the electronic edition is amazing, as I still get the paper edition as well it is a great contrast. I can see how the digital edition expands on the story and brings more life to it!
Only request would be that I could have my iPad in "landscape mode" or turned horizontal if I choose. Would allow me to see more at one time and other digital magazines I get do this.
Can't download whole magazine at once. Worthless for plane.
you'll get no more of my money! 2/5
Useless. Crashes constantly when changing pages. I want my money back !
Like it! 5/5
I was reluctant to try it, but decided to try it. I have no issue with it. There is a sample issue to try before you buy it. The electronic copies are cheaper than print copies at $1.99 monthly or $19.99 yearly. It is auto renew. I can read it on my IPhone 5, and haven't tried my IPad yet, and you can read it landscape view. I don't understand the other reviews - loads each page quickly without issue.
Complete waste of time... only the cover has clarity... could not read one article.
Don't bother... 1/5
Some articles just don't download. Previous version were better, because the magazine downloaded as a whole
Like it 4/5
By FS Runner
Like the digital version, very accessible
Don't convert from print 1/5
I converted from print to digital in response to an email from Hearst. Now I don't get either version and can't find the status of my subscription any where.
Lost features 1/5
By NASA Pilot
I purchased a certain issue so I could run a feature in that issue. However, the new version of the program REMOVED that excellent interactive--one of the best elements in the touch/tablet version of the magazine! I'm very disappointed that this new version provides FEWER cool features than the older version. I would seriously like to see that feature restored -- or receive a refund. If you have an older version, I would recommend you NOT upgrade. I wish I could get that older version of the program back.
Better than printed 5/5
