Memory nightmare 1/5
By Will22 R
Deleting an issue does not delete it from the IPad. It takes more and more memory and becomes more and more unstable. You have to delete the entire app, re download, and re log in, about weekly. Not worth it.

I love this app!!!
Love this app! 5/5
Amazing content and easy reading. I love the format and ease of this app! ❤️
Press Reader 5/5
Press Reader is an excellent substitute for the printed paper. I love that it is identical to the print edition. Because of that I KNOW that I’m not missing anything. It is as easy to navigate as the printed paper and maybe better because one can enlarge the print.
I wish one could email an article from it but you can’t. If one could it would be perfect.
Sadly it is not Good anymore
Shame on you, New York Times 4/5
The N Y Times does not recognize PressReader subscriptions to the paper as legit and, yet, the Times offers no replica alternative on its subscriber site. Shame on you.
Problems crashing 2/5
I’ve read the paper on this app for years with no problems. Now, every time I try to open the New York Times (for the past several days), the app crashes. Please do something about this. Perhaps it is time for an update.
App keeps crashing 1/5
By David K. Miller
App no longer functions on iPad Pro 12.9. Crashes constantly. New West software for iOS and the app. Unlimited/ny subscriber. Won’t even open.
Crashes constantly 2/5
This was working fine until a couple of weeks ago, now when I try and read a newspaper the app opens and then almost immediately crashes, making it unusable
Pretty good 5/5
This app is pretty good from what I’ve seen I haven’t had a chance to use a lot but I will update my review as I go.
Love it 5/5
Thank you for this app!

Recommend this Ap. Looks & Reads like a real newsprint paper copy newspaper.
NO CUSTOMER SERVICE 1/5
By Dr Howard Smith
This is a terrific app when it is working. If the app has to be re-downloaded or there is any other issue, there is absolutely no meaningful customer service available to the end-user. They insist on communicating via emails which do not solve the problems. For companies as large as the New York Times and the Washington Post and other major newspapers, there should be some way of providing interactive customer service in order to get this app running. Their webpage that is designed to authorize devices, does not work!
Latest version won’t open on iPad Pro 1/5
This needs an immediate fix
App is crashing 1/5
I use the app every day. Today it start crashing. Please fix it soon!!!
Unable to run app since Mar 17 update 1/5
Since this app was updated on my iPad Pro on March 17th, I have been unable to run it successfully. The app initially runs but crashes within seconds.
Downloads are late 4/5
I love having the paper at my fingertips when I wake up. But sometimes the downloads are late, as is the delivery of my paper copy, and then I have NO paper at all. Otherwise, I think PressReader is great.
September 13, 2017 Got my NY Times on my iPhone today but it will not download on my iPad.
February 25, 2018 Still getting downloads late. Also, not able to access any saved articles.
March 20, Still not seeing saved articles in My Collections.
Total P.O.S. - Don't upgrade 1/5
This thing has been buggy for years. Upgraded to current version (3/16/18) and the program no longer loads at all! Ugh!
Updated version crashes immediately 1/5
Version 5.2.7. Open it up and it closes before you can do anything.
Frustrating to the extreme 3/5
SO difficult to get The NY Times to consistently come up. Tried email and chat customer service to no avail. There is literally no phone customer service. Message just sends you to email address. Sincerely wish I could give zero stars. That is what this app deserves.
Good but needs work with library accounts 3/5
Overall a good app, and it’s easy to use. Only frustration is that the login for my local library frequently does not work and I have to log out and log back in to download newspapers. Hopefully it’s a bug that will be fixed in a future update
No good on Msft devices 2/5
By Not responsive
It works on Apple iPad very well but not well on Microsoft surface pro 4 . I have tried to interact with tech support without success. They refuse a phone call and seem not to care. I should make clear that I use it only for the N Y Times.
Press reader app is excellent 5/5
I've been using the app for about three or four years. It's very easy to download the paper and once downloaded, it is very easy to navigate through the options. I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a lot on the go.
Latest version ok now 4/5
Had problem with NY Times this morning. OK this evening.
This app deserves any crashworthy awards available. It is uncanny how they can engineer so many crashes.
Constant crashes 1/5
I have used this app for years, and now they have improved it so much that I can’t read a single page. Infuriating.
By Savvy User
Consistently crashes after newspaper loads. One can see a blurry page and then the crash.
My Favorite App 5/5
I read the New York Times every morning on Press Reader and really enjoy the look of the actual newspaper without having to recycle the physical paper. It is great for traveling, too.
NYT still wonky 2/5
I have version 5.2.6 and PR regularly quits when I click on a blue headline. I'm going back to reading the print edition. At least it’s stable.
Crash and burn 1/5
This app promises so much, but as soon as you start using it, it freezes, then crashes, can’t open the articles. Such a waste of time. Stick to the newspaper websites....!
Poor selection of content 1/5
Ok app but content is weak. Not worth the trouble. Those that are free are already available directly from the actual paper’s site. Paid ones are better to access directly.
Press Reader 1/5
By A Herrmann
I have to revise my previous review because the latest version is not stable. The blue hyperlink to enlarge an article only works on select articles and crashes the program on others. Repeated requests to customer service have not solved the total problem. They now seem to have fixed the front page of the NY Times but not inner pages like the Opinion page. PLEASE FIX!
Finally fixed! Now works well on my iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen.
I would like to add my frustration to the other NY Times reader reviews. The Press Reader column on the left cuts off NY Times columns and requires ridiculous slide and hold maneuvers to read the paper. I don't understand why the reading experience got worse with this update. Please fix.
Press Reader has a problem with the new iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen. It provides partial columns which require sliding and holding to read some columns. This was reported weeks ago and still not fixed.
A total waste of time 1/5
It’s a great idea to be able to get all your papers in one place. While the idea is a 10 the company is a zero.
Very frequently there is a problem on their end so the papers won’t download. I’m sure it’s fixed by mid morning but by then it’s too late. I read my papers before work, not during.
Most days my papers are blurred so I have to strain my eyes to read it. Enlarging the font only makes it harder to read.
Other days some of my papers aren’t there. Contacting lack of customer service is a complete waste of time.
There are plenty of other bugs that appear. I’ve seen others address the bugs so I wonder, why doesn’t anyone fix it?
I cancelled and I now buy my papers directly and I have no problem. Bye bye Pressreader. Contact me when you’re serious about running an app and you hire people with brains to run it.
So far, so good! 5/5
By Paddling Bear
At the risk of jinxing this app, PressReader seems to have hit a nice plateau...works well on current and not so current hardware running up to date iOS.
I personally have no complaints and wonder which iPad and what iOS the folks are running who are upset. Backwards compatibility is hard to guarantee in a rapidly changing competitive electronics era.
Troublesome Update 1/5
The most recent update makes it almost impossible to turn pages by swiping. Pages just don't turn. Please correct ASAP!
Nothing worked from signup to Find the NYT 1/5
By Rick Icon
No back arrow, stuck in just trying to join, not working to find the NYT though the NYT says to use the app for the print edition. I’m throwing it away.
Blurry Print 2/5
By Dar Bar
I'm unable to read any of my subscriptions because the font is blurred. Headlines are fine, but the rest is completely impossible to read. The magazines are just fine, but newspapers are bad.
Almost there! 4/5
Generally it’s a good app. My only problem is that there is the option to save pages to your collections, yet there is absolutely no way to actually access them?? I’m guessing this is a glitch or something. Would definitely be 5 stars if this was fixed.
For anyone else that needs this feature, the workaround that I’ve been doing is taking screenshots then cropping out the top and bottom so it shows just that page.
So many problems 1/5
By Hopalong Rabinowitz
09-14-17 final update
I today emailed NY Times to cancel my subscription, due entirely to this useless piece-of-garbage app. Latest problem is that if I don't download the issues every day, I lost that day's paper forever. No way to go back even 1 day and get the missing paper. A moronic "upgrade". I give up on this app...and I'm probably a better person for dumping the Times, too.
I subscribe to the NY Times replica edition, for which PressReader is the default viewing app. Issues aren't available or disappear, customer support is nonexistent etc. This is a terrible app choice by the NY Times and is forcing me to cancel my subscription.
04-24-17 update- PressReader won't provide support no matter what I do and I am forced to cancel my NY Times subscription. App now continually tells me to "register" even though it shows me logged in and shows my name. Won't give me any NYT issues. I give up.
Be warned, this is a horrible, horrible impossible to use app.
Worst app in the App Store 1/5
By Cranky Codger
Crashes every time I use it, often multiple times in a session. Today I can't even get to the Publications page to download. Zero stars.
Doesn't work well 2/5
I read the New York Times on this app. However, there are blue highlights on the headlines which are supposed to bring the article into a column for reading like a book. Today they don't bring in text. And other days they are not even there. Can't compete with the Washington Post app.
Useful and easy! 4/5
Fun app allows quick access to numerous periodicals. Add more publications, please!
40.00 a month is a little steep. I could see if you included actual videos and newscast but that is a whole lot of money.
I like this app 4/5
I enjoy reading ny times in replica format on my iPad. It allows me to read my paper in the manner I am accustomed to without having to turn the pages.
Drains battery 2/5
I've noticed that when using the pressreader app when not on wifi that my battery drains extremely quickly and the phone becomes hot. If I close the app this stops. This does not occur on wifi. In all cases I had previously downloaded what I was reading so that was not a factor.
What a mess! 2/5
Updated: I'd been using this a lot more recently, until the latest update made it unusable again. Cannot download issues. Cannot even look at different options to order issues, or prices, or whatever. It's a shame, because I'd just been getting into it again. It looks great, but doesn't work at all. I only added an extra star because of the layout/UI. Otherwise, I can't use it, and what's the point of an app you can't use?
Original: I used to love this app. It was clean, and more importantly, *it worked*. Now, however, I can't even search for sources - the "Publications" option is continually darkened. Unavailable. So, basically, the app is - at the moment - all but useless for anything other than the newspapers I've already purchased/downloaded. I would love to buy more; unfortunately, PressReader apparently no longer wants my money. Thanks anyway!
Best way to switch from paper to digital news! 5/5
This is my most useful app. I give it 5 stars+
Great app 5/5
The paper just the way it is on the news stand.
THe best app, my all time fav. I get the read the New York Times like a newspaper, which I've been doing for fifty years, and supplement with the online.
going downhill 3/5
By Rock hudson
I've used this for years on my ipad2. It was a great reader for the NYTimes, for which I have a digital subscription. This is a classic case of 'feature creep'. It's now become bloated and crashes about every 5 minutes. I can't get through an issue of the Times without 5-10 crashes or freezes.
When I emailed customer support, they said that they don't really support the iPad2 any more.
Too bad. It was a great product.
