Phenomenal in every way. 5/5
The ability to loop, layer and control the camera make this an excellent storyboard tool. While there is not much tweening or key framing the ability to extend frames makes this ideal for all things 2d.
Rough animator pretty lit 💯 4/5

So you got all the layers and all that-you can make some pretty cool stuff in the app- my only problem is the fact you can only add 1 bit of audio- I recommend you add some audio layers so you don’t gotta add all the sounds together first- but overall it’s pretty great- the option to fill in the back- and the front or inside is a pretty cool feature- keep up the good work my dude

It’s mostly good but their are a few things. 4/5
This app is great but their are a few things I wish would change, the first thing is that I wish importing pictures and videos were easier, I don’t know about anyone else but when it renders the app crashes. Also how do I even import audio? I save the videos to my files and it still won’t let me use the audio I want. Lastly I think their should be a help center, so if your confused or stuck on anything you can search it up and find an answer. Those are the things I want to change in this app, otherwise it’s great.
great app, one issue 5/5
best app on the market 100%. however, the compatibility never mentioned there would be no pen pressure for my adonit note+.
iPad revolution 5/5
i wish I had more freedom with the onion skin but everything else feels very professional.
Please add linear burn layer feature! 4/5
I know this might be a lot to ask for but it would be a nice time saver when animating things with shading. Thank you!
Amazing, just a few suggestions 4/5
By Eliath S
I have been using this app for about a year now and the experience has been astounding. Finally an app on iPad that is more like software on pc.
Here are a few suggestions that would just put a cherry on top of everything:
Adding symbols (like in Adobe animate) for faster lip syncing and a whole lot more uses. Symbols are one of my main tools I use on pc in Adobe animate and I would love to see some kind of variation of this feature in this app.
Tweening. I would love a feature like the basic classic tween in Adobe animate. This would go great hand in hand with the addition of symbols and would overall be really useful.
Anyways awesome app and I can’t wait for it to get better and better each update.
Great but frustrating 5/5
By Midnight the cat
It won’t let me import audio from my files and when I tap on what I want to download it does not import
Great app, needs more features 4/5
Cute little app, great potential. Would love to have a 1px brush with no antialiasing for pixel art, dark mode, some basic tweening, and copy/paste from general pasteboard. Thanks!
Good, one major problem 4/5
By Just an Ibispaint user
This is a great app for animating on the iPad. Simple yet complicated enough to make good animations. Perfect for beginners. However, one major problem. When I set a custom resolution, one, the brush becomes EXTREMELY large and blurry and I can’t fix it. And two. I can’t bring it back to original settings. So this app has been rendered useless for me because every project I start is custom and the brushes are way too large and blurry. Someone help. ;-;
Pro level 5/5
Perfect for rough animation. Has a real timeline! Can turn on two finger tap to undo (should be on by default)
Crashes too easily 3/5
Overall it seems like a great interface and I’ve been able to draw with it great, but I’m trying to import a video animatic so I can animate to dialogue but the app immediately crashes after doing so. Is there a file size limit I should use?
The app is confusing... when I’m drawing with this, is hard to do a animation. They don’t give you a run threw on how to work it so you have to look up how to use in on YouTube. Not worth $4.00 at all.
An Awesome Animation App 5/5
This app has a whole bunch of things a digital hand drawn animator could need. If compatibility with Krita and OpenToonz on desktop was added, people could do their animations on the go, and import them to add higher production values later. I’d highly recommend this app to anyone in need of a hand drawn animation app.
I really like this app, really I do my only problem is that there is no undo button MABEY there is Idk but Either way I was working on an animation an accidentally added a new layer. I kept on tapping on it so I can delete it but it wouldn’t work. Then I deleted the layer that had all my work. So I really think there should be an undo button like on the top right hand corner
It deleted a frame I was working forever on :( 1/5
I simply turned off my iPad, and it deleted. I’m super frustrated over this, and this app often has these problems.
Frame Limit 1/5
Apparently the frame limit is 260. That means I only get a few seconds of content with 10 FPS. Is there anyway I can increase this to do a whole segment of 2 minutes and 46 seconds? Otherwise it’s pretty neat. It’s really annoying that I can’t animate a whole piece of audio.
It’s great but it has a major problem 3/5
By I 💙 dogs
I’ve been using RoughAnimator for a while. It’s fantastic and I love it. But I’ve had multiple occasions where it’s spontaneously deleted days worth of work. It’s not fun. I’ve broken down many times because I’ve put my heart and soul into these animations, and then they’re just deleted off the face of the earth.
Great little app that speaks to animators with potential... 4/5
So much potential here! It has a bit of a desktop flavor with traditional landscapes sprinkled in here and there.
The price point is fair, the user interface is professional and friendly.
The app does it what it does smoothly and does not lag behind. It’s light on system resources and responsive.
It comes with an array of tools to help ease the day to day processes of hand drawn animation...
Not enough in the realm of brush choices, the brush mechanics and control are on a basic level. Would love to see a more dynamic and more brush options such as spacing, flow, taper, texture, blend modes etc. Would also love to control opacity based on pressure sensitivity instead of only size.
Wish it had gesture controls. Like finger swiping for next and previous key frames. Would be amazing for flipping through drawings while animating...
On smaller devices it is clunky trying to tap on certain parts of the UI.
Overall great efforts on the app. It is practical and gets the job done nonetheless and isn’t a pain to get animation out of it.
A quick suggestion would be peg registration....oh that would be awesome!
terrible app 1/5
This is the most stupid app I ever gotten don’t get this app!!!!!!!
I love it but I want one thing 4/5
I LOVE this app but I REALLY want a two finger tap to undo and three finger tap to redo, that’s the only thing I would love it as an option in the settings also because a bunch of people have come here from procreate I think it would help because it’s already in my work flow and a lot of other peoples, other then that I think it’s basically perfect
Great app, have a suggestion 5/5
By Someone who is bad at art ;)
I love RoughAnimator. I’ve always wanted to animate, so as soon as Procreate released their animation update, I was ecstatic. But soon I realized that a drawing app was not the best for animation. I looked for animation apps, but they weren’t very good. I saw this app and downloaded it, and so far it’s been amazing! I have a suggestion, though. In Procreate and almost every other drawing/animation app, you can tap with two fingers to undo. Adding that in RoughAnimator would make everything easier for me and many other people. Please add that, and keep up the good work. I loved your film, Divided by One, too.

Best one in the area 5/5
By Sergei Pozdeev
I couldn't find anything more functional. Apart from that, it still manages to be user friendly. Thank you for the app! A little request - Can we have more tools to work with? Ellipse, rectangle, line, text... Is the app going to support iPad's 120hz display any time soon? And is it possible to draw outside of canvas (it's useful for cycles)? Thank you
I made a video on YouTube about how to use cycles, so check it out if you're having problems.
Fantastic and fully-featured frame-by-frame animation software, but input delay can be distracting 4/5
As the title states, this software is absolutely amazing. The interface is simple but the features are still well-implemented and robust, with different types of brushes, customizable onion skins, and super-easy timeline management. The biggest issue I have with this app is how slow the brushes perform. I almost feel like I’m drawing on a 15 Hz screen, which is even more distracting when using this app on a 120 Hz iPad Pro. It’s not a deal breaker, but I feel like some performance tweaking to make brushes snappier would improve the experience massively. Overall, it’s a great option which is both easy to pick up for beginners and robust enough to serve as a useful tool for professional animators; improvements to the brush performance would make this app my unconditional first choice.
I. Have a question ! 4/5
This might sound stupid , but can someone tell me we’re to get roughness for like a pencil of some type? This is really stressing me out.
Well pleased... 4/5
I love this app, both for mobile and desktop. I have done wonderful projects with it. I wish the desktop version would allow canvas rotation like the mobile version though. And I recently did a project in 4K Ultra HD and planned to have animated elements from RoughAnimator in the same resolution, and was disappointed that this app limits us to 1080p. Fingers crossed that the future updates have 4K resolution in mind.
How do i get more brushes? 3/5
By Trey LaFevers
The app is Great but it crashes when I try to watch animations with imported videos. I also can’t seem to figure out of to make custom brushes.
The absolute best and always getting better 5/5
I can not recommend this app enough, it’s the best drawing and animating experience period.

Excellent Animation App 5/5
By Dave Pryor
I’m a professional animator and this app is the most intuitive animation tool I have used on the iPad. Even on my first generation iPad Pro, the app runs extremely well. Multiple layers and simple tools are easy to use yet robust enough to cover almost everything an animator needs to make excellent work.
By Lindsay heinzen
Good animation app but a few minor glitches in the menus
Love it so much.. 5/5
If this was the only app on my tablet I’d be happy, there’s so much potential. Tools like this were absolutely unavailable to regular people even just a few years ago, much less when I was a kid. An animation setup could cost $20,000 or more, and now anyone can get those same tools and more for $5. It’s amazing. It still takes tons of thought, work, and time to make appealing animations, but the tools are there if you want to do it. Thanks to the developer, and if I could second the request for a “dark mode” I would.
For iOS somethings wrong 5/5
Ok I love the app I really do but....there’s something wrong with the export with my iOS device. It’s doing fine when I make short animations with audio but when I try doing a long one and export it. It takes sooooo looonnng to even get to the upload and then once I even try to put it in Dropbox or maybe in a different app. IT LITERALLY SAID “ERROR” in my fricking device sooo what I’m asking is can you please, please fix this it might be getting annoying for everyone who likes this app. Unless there is another way to export it please let me and others know even the ones that are new.
Awesome app! 5/5
Amazing app! It all works really well for me, I just have one tiny think that could be changed. as a beginner, I downloaded this app to try to animate for the first time. With my limited knowledge, I was very very confused. There were no instructions to help me out. It took several hours to learn it all, and I am still learning new features! Other than that, it works great and I can make really cool (or weird) animations!
Things that wold be cool to add 3/5
By i thnk you guys need this
Ok so i thank that this app is a good app but win I’m animating in it you can’t copy I have been trying to see if I’m just missing it but I do not know.
By Mer Mer107
I’ve been looking for a good animation program for mobile for a long time, and I’ve finally found it! This app is amazing. You can extend how long each drawing lasts (as long as they are on different layers) without having to copy paste them! Also, the layer length doesn’t move together with each layer, which is really helpful for putting something like a watermark. The interface is a little confusing (I think it’s more spread out of iPad though, I don’t know I’m on mobile), but once you figure it out it’s pretty easy to use. It’s definitely worth the money!
It’s great but one problem 4/5
I love this app. It’s the best one I could find! But there’s a problem, it’s frozen. I mean I can close out of the app, I can close out of what I was animating. But I can’t draw, I tap on the paint brush and then I try to draw but nothing hsppens
Love it but... 5/5
It was amazing to use but can you make a video of a tutorial how to use it for beginners
For Everyone! 5/5
This program never fails!
Best animation app for iOS 5/5
I love this app and have been using it for the last year i’ve i’ve been you I’ve been used
It’s fine, but has quite a few problems 4/5
By Mother of 2 beauties
Okay, I’m not gonna try to go on an all-out rant, but I really need to talk about some problems this app has-
Okay, so firstly, the cycle option?? What the heck does it even do?? I haven’t found one single person on the entire internet that knows how to work it. If you’re going to have an option, tell people how to work it, or check if it’s even functional. Secondly, you can’t copy and paste multiply frames onto the layer they’re already on. That may be a nit-pick, but it’s extremely frustrating to have to click the copy and paste button SO. MANY. TIMES. Not to mention making animations that are loops, and having to go through the trouble of seeing which frame is which, only to find you messed up an hour ago and can’t fix it without starting over completely.
Okay, I’m done. Please, fix these. It would make so many other people’s experience with this app better, including mine.
Animat goodly 4/5
By I Review Things I Suppose
Rough Animator, by far, is my favourite animation app on the AppStore. It’s easy to use, and can create anything from very rough storyboards to well-done videos. The tools may be simple, but are easy to use and effective. My only real gripe is that there is no straight line or circle tool. Please add them!
Great! (But could use some improvements) 5/5
By Teddy Simpson
This app is by far the best animation app. It exceeds almost all of my requirements. however, I would love for a feature that allows me to duplicate more than one frame at once. A wider brush selection would also be fantastic! Keep up the good work
By Max speicher
I decided this is the best animation app on earth (opinion)
But 4.3 stars?
NOT ENOUGH THIS NEEDS FULL STARS
I am pleased with how simple and easy it is to use especially for hand drawn animation
Two flaws but otherwise great 4/5
I just wish it had rulers like from sketchbook autodesk. And a better smoothing feature, because as it is now it’s doesn’t really help. But it is amazing for animation.
This app was made by someone who knew exactly what we needed to animate. Everything is where it should be, it’s an amazing app
Pretty good! 4/5
I can animate with ease and export things easily. The only problem is that when I make long extensive animations and the app crashes
