Runner's World app reviews

  • App won’t download issues 1/5

    By Miche_xoxo
Not sure what happened but my app will no longer pull up issues or download for offline reading. The app dies before any download progress is made. I am paying for a subscription I cannot actually use. Please let me know where I can get a refund. My iPad software is up to date and I’ve deleted+reinstalled the app twice. I would not recommend this app or subscription.
  • Worst subscription app ever 1/5

    By Hicks822
I have been a long time subscriber but suddenly all my issues stopped. App says I have an active subscription but can’t find me email, etc. Tried to reset my account but never received the email to do so. Emailed customer service and never got a response. Seriously this is the worst service experience I have encountered.
  • What is $1.99 Subscription? 1/5

    By Heatherautumn1970
I subscribed to the $1.99 subscription ...and still could not read the articles posted on my Facebook or in the App...(obviously the magazines required the $5.99 subscription...) When I emailed RW about what is included in the $1.99 subscription, there was no reply... Very Disappointed....
  • Doesn’t work on iPad 1/5

    By njg1282
Been a subscriber for years and got a new iPad. The app is useless and can’t access the content that I paid for. Even tried deleting and downloading app again a few times.
  • Weird 5/5

    By AngelDN
Great information but bad digital subscription deployment.
  • Not impressed 1/5

    By Dtcali
Why do I need Facebook to have this app? I don’t use Facebook. Got the app and did a subscription yet cannot log in unless I have facebook? Your content better be better than your logic. Already unimpressed.
  • Too good!! 5/5

    By Manavsn
Awesome experience.....almost as if reading the magazine. No bugs.
  • What Thanks? 1/5

    By lanedoyle
I have been a member for the past 8 months, now you say you haven’t heard of my email and the magazines I have at home, have running time on them. What’s next? Are you guys Not going to send me to rest of my two year issues?!!?
  • When do magazines release on here? 3/5

    By hwinn541
I love the app, but I seen the November/December issue for sale on Barnes and Nobles but it’s not on here yet? If anything magazines should be popping up on here first.
  • Worst Magazine App...Ever 1/5

    By ElleAgnes
I am so sick of this app. No matter how I change the settings, on both the app and my iPad, the app continuously un-downloads the magazines I want stored on my tablet. My iPad can only access the internet via WiFi, so it’s incredibly important to have these downloaded. Moreover, yesterday when I went to use some of the strength-training exercises at the gym, I could not open the app at ALL because it wasn’t connected to WiFi. I could understand this if anyone ever read a magazine on their phone for fun, but no one does that, so it doesn’t make sense that this isn’t optimized for tablet users. The “new” reading format is a serious downgrade from the simple PDF format of before. When it comes to turning something analog into digital, it truly is best to keep it as simple as possible. Take a look at how books are digitalized. Copy that. Keep it simple. Please.
  • Can't read the magazine 1/5

    By tennisck
I have had this app for a long time and it was fine especially after they fixed the offline issue. However, this past month the app stopped working. I just repaid the $20 subscription but now when I try and open the most recent issue the app always crashes. I have tried restarting my iPad, checking for updates, deleting and redownloading the app but it keeps crashing. That was a waste of $20....
  • Crash 1/5

    By Brad11207
Dude! Fix this, or give me my money back. Cover is great and all, but I kinda wanted to read the issue. Hard when the app crashes every 10 seconds.
  • Cant get past Cover of May 18 issue 1/5

    By b boppin bufalo
Crashes soon after opening. Reset iPad doesn't help. I only use this device for this mag.
  • Why is current issue a pdf? 1/5

    By rogermayer
    Prior issues are apps
  • I need a little help! Am I doing this wrong? 1/5

    By jlw1011
How do I download the April issue? It says that I have to pay 4.99 but I purchased the 19.99 subscription.
  • Won't download new issues? 5/5

    By Hou1997
The app will not download the new issue when it comes out. Sometimes it shows up weeks later. What's the problem? I have asked TS twice and receive only canned answers that do not work.
  • How the heck do you download issue? 3/5

    By zy1282
The updated app instructions indicate that there should be a star that you select to download an entire issue to read offline. The stars only appear for individual articles inside of an issue. I shouldn't have to download each article individually. *Update* as of July 14, they've fixed the offline magazine glitch
  • Horrible update 1/5

    By Kerry1015
Nothing is improved and the offline version does not work. Please just put back the old version! RW is not listening.
  • Horrible app 1/5

    By BobTravelsWorld
Like the magazine, but the app stinks. Bad enough that I am not renewing subscription next time it is up.
  • Used to be good 1/5

    By Seattle_Michael
The update to the app totally ruined the experience. It used to be well designed and simple to use, but no longer.
  • Way to screw up your magazine 2/5

    By CC in AZ
Loved the content, still do. I hate getting to it. There was NOTHING wrong with the old format. I like the way a magazine reads, not this abortion.
  • Great app 5/5

    By jcan299
Don't understand all the negative reviews. App works great for me and I love the magazine and extra articles
  • Ruined a good thing 1/5

    By Hgsguy
I liked having my RW mags on my device, flipping pages like a magazine, marked my favorite articles, and could read them when not connected. Then they "improved it". It doesn't work off line, although you can download individual articles. I had just renewed prior to the change. I turned off renewal so I don't pay anymore for this worthless way to present their magazine. All my old downloaded issues are gone, and there is no enjoyment using this app. If you want to read RW, go buy a paper copy!
  • Hate it 1/5

    By GreatOracle
I like the magazine but now I hate the app. No offline reading without using facebook or email! DUD!!!
  • Why? 1/5

    By soccerskillz101
I subscribed every year for the digital version, but this will have to be the year I wait until the format is fixed.
  • Best running news 5/5

    Fav running magazine
  • Poor update 1/5

    By squeaky9
Between the bugs, poor resolution and poor user interface, it's a rough update.
  • Horrible new format, hard to navigate 1/5

    By ben-marko
This new look is boggy and slow to respond to finger swipes. There is a noticeable lag when going to a new page or just scrolling through one page. As far as readability there isn't much positive to say. I like the clean look, but there isn't much to anchor my eyes as I move around each page. The narrower columns of the previous look were easier to read (and yes, I know that is because they are just like the print magazine). Runner's World could incorporate a similar design to what Outside magazine uses - it retains the look and feel of a print magazine, but allows you to scroll through articles without sacrificing readability. It looks familiar, but manages to keep a lot of information on the page without looking cluttered (no more continued on page ## anymore!). Everything looks so spaced out now with the new design, and with the small type it is harder to read. I'll check out the print edition - but if this redesign extends to that as well, I'm cancelling my subscription. Sorry, Runner's World.
  • Useless 1/5

    By Tworunners
Paid for a subscription on iTunes but the app won't give me access. Called the phone number in the app but they have no clue as to how to fix it. Wasted $20.
  • Horrible 1/5

    By englandcalling
Reads like a poorly made website, not a magazine. Just cancelled my subscription.
  • Bad update 1/5

    By FranMata
Just renewed my runners world subscription for $19.95 and haven't been able to read an article of the last issue - March 2017, its blocked, the price tag is still there. Already tried 'restore purchases', restarting de app, and even deleting and downloading the app again. Sent feedback asking for help and no answer yet. Disappointing.
  • Why? 1/5

    By dbug42
It used to work fine, why mess with it? Why do I have to set up a new account to read offline? Why is PDF mode so bad now? Why is text mode so useless? Why did I pay for a year of this from iTunes? Enjoy my $20, it's the last of my money you'll see.
  • Worst update ever-not renewing my subscription 1/5

    By Magic Spellz
Before the update, I rated Runner's World 5 stars, because the App worked like a charm. After the update, I will have to cancel my subscription because everything that used to work is broken now: - The app doesn't remember where I stopped reading, so I am always starting at the beginning of the issue. - All my favorite articles I saved over the last couple of years (!) are gone! Can you imagine my frustration? - The intro says that you can favorite articles. I don't even see this option (I have an iPad Air 2), so no, it's not my device! - The app freezed up on me 3 times in the last 10 minutes. Every time I reopen the app, you guessed it right, I have to start reading on page 1 again. Why oh why did you have to make a new app? I have a guess here: The publisher got a cutthroat quote from another supplier to make the app for half the yearly cost. The publisher thought, oh good, we can save money! And they ditched an app that was working perfectly fine and did what it was supposed to do for an utter mess. Thank you Rodale for caring for your readers. I can't believe this is happening with such a reputable publication as Runner's World. Update: Oh, you have to be logged in with Facebook to save favorite articles! How reader friendly! Please restore the old app ASAP! I wrote my first review in early December and nothing has changed, I won't be renewing my subscription.
  • Cancelling. 1/5

    By MathNomad
This format change for the Rodale publications was a horrible idea. The previous version was awesome and I really looked forward to it. It also had video and audio content and was interactive. This low-res PDF thing is a joke. It reminds me of my high school yearbook. Why would I pay for this? The only thing that looks not-wonky in the magazine are the ads, because at least those look like a scan. I feel like I've waited long enough for a fix on this awful format, so I'm cancelling. It is unpleasant to use this app. I don't know what Rodale was thinking.
  • Horrible update 1/5

    By E35726
I've cancelled my iOS subscription a a result of this horrible update. Looking for an alternative method that is user friendly. What was a decent app has turned into a horrible ux mess! Do yourself a favor and avoid this app if you can.
  • App simply does not work 1/5

    By Jane Quilter
I spent a lot of time emailing this app management after purchasing a subscription. I could not access the current issue---the app kept requesting that I pay the $4.95 single issue price, after I had purchased a subscription. I followed all instructions multiple times, deleting and reinstalling the app, restarting my iPad, etc. I finally registered a complaint with ITunes and got a refund.
  • So bad, I've cancelled 1/5

    By Brettinto
The app used to be quite user friendly and enjoyable to use. Now it is simply horrible. I feel like they turned back the clocks to 1999. It is slow to load and text driven. I can't fathom why they would have made this change. It's so bad, I've stopped even opening the app for new issues. Needless to say, I've cancelled my subscription. Maybe I will come back if they fix things, but definitely not before.
  • Worse than Nook Version 1/5

    By Mark in Brooklyn
No preview on PDF version, unlike Nook and how it was previously on iOS. Offline reading is broken, you can't tell when the entire magazine is downloaded or even IF its downloaded, and the PDF version always starts from page one even if the last page you were reading was 60 pages in. And when you turn a page, it takes an age to render. The article view is not a replacement for the prior experience. It might work on the iPhone but the iPad version is much much worse. Somehow an app that has been great since 2011 has been completely borked. Nice one.
  • Low resolution PDF= ripped off 1/5

    By CosJap
This app used to work well with the IPAD. They dumbed it down and now it's just a low quality PDF or an option to read text with a few pictures. Apparently they no longer value appreciation of the graphical interface an iPad can provide.
  • What happened? 1/5

    By Stepowell
Suddenly, the app won't open and I can't see the magazine. This has really been frustrating since the last update. I'm considering cancelling with all the issues I'm having
  • New format awful 1/5

    By D o n a l d
Bring back the old format of the magazine or I will not be renewing. Why not leave good enough alone?
  • Dcs21 1/5

    By Dcs21
Gave this most recent update a try, still a horrible design. Already deleted app again and subscription still cancelled.
  • Terrible Redesign 1/5

    By Latitude65
Worst redesign ever. Constant crashing and broken interface. Will be cancelling my subscription unless fixed.
  • Disaster 2/5

    By Occasional bird watcher
This app has completely ruined the ability to enjoy this quality magazine. It's difficult to navigate. You download for offline reading only to find the issue isn't there. After several years as an online subscriber I'm contacting them today to change back to print. Yes, it's that bad.
  • Horrible update 1/5

    By Newcovtech
I loved the Runners World app before the update. I would even brag about it and show it to my friends. I bought the subscription because of the app and the app was very close to an actual magazine but with additional features. This latest update is horrible. It's not even usable and the developers are going the wrong direction. They need to bring back the old one.
  • Really, Really Lousy App 1/5

    By John Mulholland
I have an original iPad, and up until the December edition, I was able to access my magazine. I can view it on my iPhone 6, but it's in pdf which, as many people have noted below, is unfriendly. I've reached out to them numerous times via social media, and have received no response. I'll not be renewing when my current subscription is up in March.
  • New version is pretty bad 2/5

    By Bmatis
Old version was much better on iPad. Now, in order to get the magazine style layout, you have to hunt for the PDF view, which has horribly pixelated images. Plus, it's lost the nice way of navigating through that it used to have. Hopefully they'll bring back some of the older features and fix the issues!
  • Horrible! 1/5

    By Download it haha
What did the app developers do? Broken. Slow. Crashes.
  • Ruined the app 1/5

    By DougA77C
Completely ruined the RW iPad experience. Used to be like reading the print version, but enhanced. Now it's just plain horrible. Just canceled my subscription.
