Great Stories On Serial Box 5/5
Loving the story Alternis. Dave100
love it 5/5
i love how the app works
This app is my life! It is a TV show/ book hybrid with the outstanding literature I’ve been looking forward too! Prices are reasonable and they have tons of great serials. That are always adding on. Try the app, it will change you! This is not a boy review. I really feel this app will show the worlds, stories, and characters you can’t even dream of! Please try it!!!!
Like the podcast version of a novel! 5/5
I first learned about this app from a local author whose work I really enjoy (Curtis Chen). He did a project in collaboration with a couple other authors and it was published here (Ninth Step Station). I listened to the audio series and it was great! I love that it’s episodic like a TV show, but that it’s still a book. It’s like the podcast version of a novel!
Then I tried out a few more series and I have loved them too! The writing is enjoyable, the stories are interesting and well put together, and the narrators are wonderful.
Also, the app works nicely. It’s easy to search for things or just brows, easy to buy a season (after listening to the first episode for free!), and easy to move from one episode to the next. I am such a fan, this app is great!
Brilliant stories in eBook and audiobook 5/5
By Robin Allenson
I love the Serial Box stories and the serial format. It’s also wonderful that you get both evocative reading and the written format.
Best programs 5/5
The serials offered here are good enough that they got me interested in audio-only stories at all. Before Tremontaine I just didn't get the appeal. Each audio episode comes with the same media in text. A transcript is always available! This is rare and important.
Now I have hundreds of podcast subscriptions because I rebuilt my routine to include audio narratives and it has been just wonderful. It's not an exaggeration that this app has improved my life. Thanks!
Great fiction! 5/5
Serial Box consistently delivers great fiction. I’ve listened to several different stories over the past year and a half, and loved them all. I listen in the car, and I can usually finish an episode in the course of one day’s commute.
Good choice 5/5
By RE Jones
Great stories, narrated in an engaging manner. Also offered as pure reading experience. Can’t miss. Well worth your time and money.
Great Stories Well Acted! 5/5
9th Step Station drew me in with mystery by kept me hooked with great acting and storytelling. A gem of an app experience!
Fun reads 5/5
Easy app to use. Read or listen. Great authors.
I love IT !! 5/5
I love this book service its neat take on epsodic stories that we usely get on Video or Tv but with a Book that is well Read/Acted with a bit of sound effects to add to moment of story ..
Love to listening 4/5
Don’t like reading so this helps.
Five stars 5/5
I haven’t had this much fun following a series since I watched the Sopranos.
Imagination and Good Writing 5/5
The variety of themes and the imagination in the stories makes this a great place to find good writing.
Great Serials 5/5
I absolutely love this app! Every serial is engaging and well-written.
Great app, tons of good content 5/5
Plenty of good stuff on here, something for everyone
Stories are great…the app? Better! 4/5
Update to the previous review (keeping it below). No more crashes! It still feels like there are too many taps necessary and the app shld know “me” more (like not show me “ads” for shows I already bought).
Quite literally the only app I have that crashes 8 times before I can use it. Sync fails more often than it works. I kinda wish the content was on a less unreliable platform like Audible.
Serial Box is awesome! 5/5
I started with Ninth Step Station and now I'm hooked. Such a great way to read (and listen to) new stories!
Carol Hetrick 5/5
By Newcomer too
The stories are great and I especially like flipping from reading to listening when I drive to work!
Excellent Content, Terrible App 1/5
As a content ptovider, Serial Box is hard to beat: wonderful writers and great voice performers.
As an app, though, Serial Box is dreadful: constant crashes, inability to automatically advance to the next chapter after one completes in any sort of intuitive way, and sound quality on high speed playback is dreadful - listening at 1.25 or 1.5 speed is headache inducing and its definitely an app.issie, not an issue with the sound files.
The option to write 4/5
I’m an avid reader and an amateur writer. When I’ve saw this app I had hope this was one of those read other people’s stories and write your own. This wasn’t the case. This was an app where you had to pay to read and that’s it. Paying isn’t the problem. It’s the ability to not being able to publish your own writing and getting responses from other readers. I hope in the future you guys will take into consideration that many of the people who uses your app want to be write not only read.
Can’t Quit 1/5
They have my cc info and won’t let me quit. Avoid!
Inaccessible To Blind And Low Vision Readers 1/5
This app is inaccessible and nearly unusable to blind and low vision users that rely on Apple Voice Over for text accessibility and general app navigation. While navigating the app voice over should announce screen elements as they are touched, but the titles of the stories are not announced so that a voice over user can even determine if they want to read or listen to a story. This is an app I was very excited to see showcased in an Apple news article but disappointed that basic user accessibility features for disabled users are not implemented. Please fix this, there are millions of potential readers around the world who rely on Voice over and also love great stories.
Thank you guys so much 5/5
Well, I have always wanted an app like this that could read to me whenever I was bored. Thank you guys so much especially for this free, incredible app. Other apps I tried I had to pay for it. Thanks again ♥️♥️♥️
Portrait Mode Only 2/5
Something I relay want 3/5
I wish that you can search books bc all of the books aren’t for me and what I mean by that is that I’m not allowed to read those books so, can you please put a search button?? Thank you!
Great stories, a minor quibble 4/5
By Allison Fr.
I’ve loved the stories in all genres (sci fi, thriller, historical fiction). However, the app doesn’t have a sleep timer function, which would be so nice! I like to listen when I go to bed, but it just have to let it play to the end of the chapter and then try to figure it where I was when I dozed off, which is a minor hassle. I’d love to see a sleep timer in an update.
Awesome App! 5/5
This app is great! The content is awesome and the UX is fantastic! Really well done!
New version frequently crashes 4/5
By Piston Shortpants
The new 2.01 version frequently crashes on startup. The stories are great but I often can’t get to them to read or listen to. Very frustrating…
On the times it does start up I don’t seem to have problems other than that my “Library” contains lots of series that I sampled the free previews of but haven’t purchased (yet).
Update turns good to great! 5/5
The recent update fixed the issues with the audio playback in previous versions of the app, allowing listeners to enjoy the content without frustration. Keep up the good work!
Easy and fun 5/5
It’s fantastic, cool stories that I can read while on the train or listen to while jogging. I love being able to switch between reading and listening!
Great app 5/5
Great story telling in installments the way Charles Dickens first presented his novels, updated for modern technology.
Notification Hell 2/5
The content is pretty good, but the ads in my notifications just won’t stop. I enabled notifications because I wanted to know when a series I preordered came out. And the Microfiction Mondays are pretty good! But the ads I just don’t care about just won’t stop.
Neat idea, execution needs work 2/5
This review is of the app’s UX, not story content or production - library management needs work, and you need the ability to: a) see and sort stories by genre, b) see and sort by who the narrator(s) are, c) and “favorite” particular stories, or otherwise flag them for later review or purchase (just adding a and b would probably deal with this adequately).
Luv it 5/5
Nice that it combines a kindle and audible
Pretty cool 3/5
Read or listen / can’t go wrong !
This app is wonderful 3/5
Great content, great concept, a few bugs, but they don’t stop me 5/5
The content is absolutely 5-star. I have read almost every serial that serial box offers and it’s all been so good that I would purchase and read nearly anything they offer in the future.
I love the ease with which you can switch back and forth between listening to an episode and reading it. That makes the app so valuable, IMO.
The app itself, however can be a bit buggy at times. I have had some problems syncing across devices and sometimes I have to refresh several times to get my purchases to show up. I have occasional crashes and a couple weird navigational issues.
Ultimately, those bugs don’t matter. The writing is top notch, the art and design are sleek and beautiful, and this app has become my very favorite to read in. As a result, I read more on serial box than anywhere else.
Good reads 4/5
By (:) smile guys
The books are great and I’m happy that I can access a book on my phone when I finish the one I have on hand. It’s come in handy pretty often. I wish there was an option where you could write your own story though. I write a lot and was in need of a way to publish when I got this app. I just wish there was a way to publish one of my stories to see if other readers liked my writing.
SerialBox is the Netflix for books, but better. 5/5
The line between books, movies, and episodic shows is pretty much erased thanks to SerialBox. Read or listen to addicting serial fiction easier than ever before. I love this concept and I love this app!
Poor business practices 2/5
Dig one of their stories. Went to purchase a second season. Bought the season for $20. No where did they state this was not for the complete second season.
I was allowed to download half. Then if wanted the second half of the season they asked for another $11.
Great. And pricey. 4/5
By Mainah Jill
Love the concept of the "Writers' Room" and different takes on the fictional universe. The first series of both Remade and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold were very entertaining. The price of the 2nd seasons, however, is prohibitive.
Fantastic stories, awful app 4/5
The stories are really good. Gripping, well read, I highly suggest Remade to sci-fi fans. The app on the other hand is not so good, weird double audio, hard to navigate options, and slow to update, it feels like they tried to make it too complicated. Hopefully they'll get it fixed up before folks get tired of having to start and stop their listening experiences!
Great App! Great stories!! 5/5
By Can't Draw:(
I am enjoying these stories sooo much!
Incredible stories, talented readers, fun delivery method - an amazing service! 5/5
Remember when you were a kid and you saved up to subscribe to a magazine or “book club” from the back of the Scholastic book fair flyer? Remember how exciting it was, how magical it felt? That sense that you’d have something new to read soon, and you knew you’d love it and couldn’t wait to get started? That’s Serial Box. The magic of the internet brings you chapter subscriptions to books, all available as audiobook episodes read by wonderfully engaging and easy-to-listen-to voice talents. Subscribe. Treat yo self. You’ll love it.
Great fiction, in print and audio 4/5
The material here is amazing and keeps me hooked. They have some great authors working on the series. It's very nice to have audio and print versions for the same price. The app could use some improvement though - it keeps losing my place in the audio track, especially when the screen rotates by accident.
Definitely not free 1/5
Sure, it's free to download. I thought maybe I would get at least one Serial free?? NOPE. SUCH A WASTE OF TIME AND STORAGE SPACE. Deleting now.
