New update just crashes instantly. 2/5
Shazam worked perfectly for the longest while until this new redesign update. Now whenever I click the Shazam icon on the top status bar to open the menu it shows for about 2 seconds and then crashes. Uninstall and reinstall made no difference.
Major Update 5/5
The last update is amazing, it works just as well as the phone version.
why remove auto shazam???? 1/5
bring back auto shazam!!! love the dark mode UI but bring back background shazam! 1-star until then
Won’t even open, crashes immediately 1/5
Won’t even open, crashes immediately. Creates crashlog on every attempt. Contacted Shazam’s tech support with it, heard nothing back. Unreal.
It works great but somewhere around 2 months ago I discovered a bug that causes bluetooth audio devices to malfunction when you connect and try to use them while shazam is on
i dont know why everyone's complaining, it works perfectly. 5/5
By Hammad Rizvi
it shazams songs i play through my speakers, even if there on the lowest volume, amazing to be honest.
doesn’t id anything, mic settings correct per their support page.
Works well with "Loopback" 4/5
If you want Shazam to work with music apps running on your computer you can use Rogue Amoeba’s “Loopback” app to make an output that you select as the “Input” in the sound control panel.
It would be nice if this functionality were built in.
Seemless Audio ID 5/5
This works in the background so fluidly I forget it’s there and get delighted when the notification pops up identifying everything from music, theme songs, soundtracks in movies, commercials, etc. The only issue I have with this Mac version is that it doesn’t sync with the account I use with the iOS app. That’s really a insignificant issue as all the audio I’d history is still saved on the Mac. 5 stars for delivering consistently great and automatic audio identification!
Pale Imitation of the IOS App 2/5
It works sometimes, but misses 70% of what the IOS app gets. Needs ridiculously long samples to find anything. Just not up to scratch given how well the IOS version works. Something has definitely been lost in translation to the Mac.
Works perfectly every time, i have enjoyed using this app for all music tagging and identification.
Works Perfectly 5/5
No problems. Some people seem to be having trouble. could be they have an older mac or something. Just try it out and see if it works for you.
Works great!!!!!! 5/5
No explenation, it works great
It only seems to recognize songs when I don't need it (I know what song is playing on my Spotify). Downloaded so I could discover songs playing on my phone from Snapchat, Youtube and whatever else. Doesn’t use mic.
Early review so hoping it’ll get better! Shazam mobile rocks!
All features down, one to go! 5/5
By Mady Meagen 77
It’s great, it can hear better than the phone’s version, it’s fast and easy to use, the login the only feature lacking, but still, we can now have some expectations from apple..
App is no bueno! 1/5
App doesn’t work. I tried many ways to make sure the song would be picked up… NOTHING! Going to uninstall :(
What happened to remaining time clock? 3/5
1.2.0 not working at all…
The small badge on Shazam menu icon is stuck… as if it is in endless loop..This update seems to be not fully QA tested. Not picking up anything… nothing at alll since this update came out… I wish I could revert back to previous…. Have to rate it 1 star till it’s fixed… earlier, I would rate it 5 stars but now 1.
Still won’t work on OS X El Capitan on 2007 iMac 20"
1.3.x on 27” 5K Retina iMac running macOS High Sierra
Works fine but misses lots of songs… and it now lost the remaining timer… I wonder… I liked this feature… I give this 3 stars till it reconigze more sounds efficiently and bring back timer then get 5 stars… why do I feel like I am extorting Shazam?
App doesn’t work!! 1/5
I used tp have Shazam on my Mac Book Pro. I had tried SEVERAL times to find out what songs were and each time the program NEVER came back with it. I made sure my mic was on and that it was picking up sounds but still, never recognized any of the music that I have used it for. It also has updated to the latest version. I thought for sure this last update would have worked but, even with the latest update I still get no hits and on popular 80s music as well. I can understand if it is some obscure song but these were all mainstream songs. Sorry this is such a bad review but, if they had created a better song recognizer the I would probably be giving a good review. That is if it even worked.
drains battery 3/5
When Shazam is in memory, it runs coreaudiod, which appears to run constantly at about 10% of CPU, which runs down my MacBook’s battery. Turning Shazam OFF in its popup window has no effect. Only quitting terminates the coreaudiod process. (High Sierra 10.13.5 with all available Software Updates applied.)
Wow - this is terrible 1/5
By chicago shopgirl
Installed on my Mac desktop and not only doesn’t it work, you can’t delete it off your computer because it says the app is in use (even though it’s not).
Useless button 1/5
Clicking on the icon does nothing. The application does not respond. Reinstalled with same results.
Downloaded on older Mac Pro - Won 2/5
The program works decently on my smartphone but on my mac pro isn't even launching and crashes silently (visible in the report for all message in the Console log). While it might be fine on newer macs, on a mac pro running 10.11.6 it's a 100% fail.
MacBook Pro App 3/5
I love the app when using it on my iphone, but I am dissapointed that the app for the computer isn’t as great. It does not pick up any songsa when I am using my headphones and it does not have the lyric part as the phone app does. Seeing the lyrics of my shazamed songs is what I love about the app.
This app is garbage, needs some fixing 1/5
I just downloaded it and immediately I started finding this app to be dysfunctional, I’ve been trying all sorts of remidies to get Shazam to listen to the song I’m playing but it seems that it isn’t detecting any songs, I tried numerous songs and at times it works but gives me the wrong song. I adjusted the mic levels and tried everything possible to make Shazam work but it’s just trash, I’m disappointed, it was so reliable back then.
Now that Apple bought it who knows?
doesn’t work at all! 1/5
For some reason upon installation I opened it, played a few songs, and nothing happened!
By Franz Schneider
What is the point of this app? I love the iOS version, but this one does absolutely nothing. I turn it on and it does nothing and/or sits there and says it's "finding music around you." It does not register with any music I play. A complete dud.
this is not like the version for iPhone or iPad 1/5
I just downloaded it onto my iMac. Completely different than what I have been using on my iPhone. It starts in always-listening mode (instead of touch-here-to-Shazam) . It apparently installs default permission to track your location, and to use your iMac’s camera. Neither of which I want, and I can’t find any way to disable that. It does not appear to provide any path that I can see where I can sign in, and thus bring my song list history from my other devices. The interface is pretty much non-existent; it just says it is on and listening, in case music ever plays. If there is a way to get to an interface, I can’t find it. I can’t even figure out how to delete the app. Which is what I plan to do. Disappointing, as I have liked the iPhone version.

DOESNT RECOGNIZE SONGS. DONT GET IT!
only has passive recognition 1/5
passive recognition is a good idea, but it should not be the entirety of the app. This is terrible at picking up songs compared to the mobile app. Takes too long and needs to high quality audio as well.
I does not identify any song... 1/5
Using it on an iMac 2017 with High Sierra, up to date… Songs are quickly identified with the iPhone app, while the Mac app simply stays there, unbothered. I have checked my MIDI input settings (2ch 24 bit integer 44.1 MHz, as recommended at the Shazam Help site), and it is the same: Nothing.
Not working 1/5
Shazam not working im my macbook!!!
Not like iOS version 2/5
By mr mc magnum
Title explains all, and music takes too long to find.
Shazam is magical just like it sounds!! 5/5
Ever wanted to know the name of a song and the song after then the song after that? Or have you ever heard a catchy song in a commercial and wanted to know the name? Shazam is the perfect app for that.
Does Not Function As Advertised 1/5
Title says it all. It doesn’t even know what some of the most obvious, popular, timeless songs are. Never recognizes anything. Most likely spyware.
Missing too many needed features 2/5
1. doesn’t reliably recognize songs that the IOS version and the watch version recognize instantly.
2. Doesn’t seem to share tag history with either IOS or Watch.
3. A very NOT intuitive interface for connecting to (or disconnecting from) your Shazam account
4. cumbersom to enable/disable listening
Sure hope Apple addresses these shortcomings...
Just sits there... 1/5
By askjdhf lkjhafgadfbvljh
Downloaded the app and played the radio to test it out and the app just sits there, it doesn’t register that there is any music playing! Useless!
APP WORKS. **FIX IN REVIEW** 5/5
The app does work. To get it to work you need to uncheck the “use ambient noise reduction” checkbox in system preferences > Sound > Input. Also make sure your input volume slider is all the way too the right.
Not working 1/5
Hello, This application is not working on my macbook pro macOS High Sierra! Please fix this problem.
not identifying songs correctly 1/5
By Chloe the dog
I’ve been trying this on my mac mini and my sound input is a webcam. I sporadically pops up with a song but not even close to what’s playing???? I’ve been playing various works from my own music library trying to get more complete information and more often than not it doesn’t even recognize what’s playing.

Why so negative reviews? 5/5
I don’t understand why most of reviews are so negative, and why the app has such a low rating. I didn’t experience any of the problems mentioned in those reviews, the app works just fine like it should. It’s very convenient that I don’t have to do anything for it to start recognising, it works by itself and also keeps the history, which is quite handy in case of listening to internet-radio.
Does exactly nothing 1/5
What machine do they run it on?
2016 iMac 27’ with latest MacOS, running music off web via Harman Kardon Soundsticks on the same machine.
My iPhones and iPad all recognize songs perfectly.
Why is this piece of junk still offered?
Not Working With latest OS 1/5
I use to use this app all the time and loved it.
This app version and/or OS High Sierra version 10.13.2 (17C88) doesn't appear to be compatable with each other.
As soon as the app is launched, my headphones audio quality diminished dramatically. I attempted to capture the audio through my laptop speakers, the app was still not able to recognize the music played via iTunes and through Youtube.
The Music I was playing was never Identified.
Please fix asap.
doesnt work - 1/5
By Whatever whomever
enough said, doesnt seem to get audio from OS X, never matches. even on iPad its 100% wrong on 4 tracks so far as in not even close
Useless for anything other than default audio in 1/5
No support for configuration of…. well anything really……. For example if you have a Mac desktop using a webcam for audio, then you are out of luck here. There is no config options available, and therefore no way to config the app to point to it.
It Works but crashes more than Daniil Kvyat 3/5
When it’s running it works fine but it crashes a LOT. As long as I’ve been using it no updaes have ever fixed the crashing randomly issue. It never fails that when you hear that one song that you want identified you look on your Shazam to find that it’s grayed out again, crashed.
Oh well, you get what you pay for.
still not working 1/5
despite the update. please fix it!
