    Who in their right minds create an app that they release on ipad without testing it? The application ONLY displays upside down when on ipad and on a keyboard or standard dock. As a mobile software engineer… this is silly. Uninstalled.

    I must admit, although it’s not a *bad* rating overall (4.5) I would have expected it to be much higher. Not only does Shudder totally trounce the competition with its huge collection of horror, slasher, psychological thrillers, zombie movies (you name it, they have the category) - old and new alike - it has by far some of the best and most original series and movies, too. I love curling up in my bed at night and watching some of the most terrifying movies I can find, lol. Not only are the movies themselves excellent, but the app is easy to navigate. The monthly subscription rate is more than reasonable, and I’ve always been able to transfer the app to my TV very easily. No complaints here! A must have app if you’re a horror movie fanatic like myself.

    It seems that you have made your app to not work properly and it was a huge waste of my time! I was asked to input a pin…figures it would Not let me input one so I won’t be enjoying horror movies with your company. Instead I own almost a 1000 + just in horror. Sadly you made my experience terrible. Thanks for wasting my time

    I don’t know if I’m going crazy or what but it seems Shudder keeps lowering the volume when I’m trying to watch a movie. I’m hard of hearing and need the volume all the way up. Other than that the content seems pretty good.

    Love scary movies so this service is great. App is a must. They don’t have an app for my tv so I use my iPad and send it to my tv. I’m disappointed that when I send it now on my iPad it says “playing on external screen” when it use to say “look at your tv if you dare” it’s not a big deal but it was a cool little feature we liked to see.

    I would rate this app higher but it forces you to use PayPal. Why can’t you have a normal purchase screen to put in a debt or credit card number? If you use the app on a console, it won’t even let you sign up. Add a way to not charge to PayPal or Apple Pay and I will resign up

    I love the content. I found a lot of cool movies on here I’ve never heard of before. They curate the content well, with films listed by sub-genre and unique categories created by Shudder. There are some great series to watch too, Channel Zero and Creepshow bring personal favorites. The app works just fine when streaming a movie, which is obviously the most important thing, but the interface is a little quirky. Sometimes movies I add to my watchlist are gone the next time I log in and I have to add them again. TV series I can’t add to my watchlist at all. Reviews I leave usually don’t show up on the site. Apparently there’s no way to turn off the autoplay feature when watching a series. And I miss the ability to download movies. Despite all this I’m a happy subscriber. I use this app more than Netflix, and it’s half the price. For horror fans it’s a huge bargain.

    i have tried using shudder on and off pretty much since day one. the content is great and keeps getting better, but the app stays terrible. the app on my tv, phone, tablet, they’re all horrifically buggy and completely unreliable. what i want to know is how shudder seems to have the money to acquire better and better titles and produce their own content, but they have never been able to deliver an app that works. please please prioritize fixing this app so people will actually want to use your service.

    The app won’t stay logged in on my phone or my Apple TV. Having to retype my password almost every time I open the app, especially with a tv remote, is seriously annoying. None of my other streaming services require me to type a password almost daily. I unsubscribed from Shudder for this reason a year ago. I gave it another try, hoping they’d fixed it by now. Nope. SonI unsubscribed again. As I said previously, I don’t have to deal with this foolishness from any other streaming services, so why should I pay Shudder a monthly fee to irritate me nonstop?

    Trying to watch a movie and i payed for a subscription but app keeps saying I’m not subscribed 😡 I fallowed said instructions to fix issue but NOTHING, I can’t contact anyone to fix said issue. Not worth it, if I have to jump through hoop’s in order just to watch a movie. I’m disappointed

    This app is broken and would not allow me to access content at all since it would not recognize the fact that I had in fact subscribed to the service. I’m typically quite relaxed and forgiving when it comes to the technical performance of streaming apps (UI issues, response time, etc.) but the fact that this was so completely broken on such a fundamental level is just ridiculous. I feel like simply allowing someone the ability to access the content they have subscribed to is how a streaming service functions on the most basic of levels and I honestly have no idea how they have so spectacularly failed to meet the bare minimum in terms of what can be expected in terms of software infrastructure.

    I downloaded the app and signed up for a full subscription. But every time I click play on a movie title, it redirects me to an “update subscription” page and won’t allow to me to watch what I pay for. Very dissatisfied

    I’m not able to access the content because it keeps asking me to update subscription. Like I chosen the monthly subscription and it still doesn’t allow me to watch anything. So I cancel it and will delete application. I’m not sure who they hire to make the application but it is horrendous that I can’t watch the content.

    These five star reviews have to be fake. The worst part is the developer hasn’t seemed to address any of the issues people have been complaining about since the app was released. I can’t even cancel my subscription and it’s been almost five years now. Who wants to watch a movie on their phone? When you connect to a tv it just says shudder on the screen while the movie plays on the phone. What’s the point of that? Only a handful of good movies and series like creep show. Looks like everyone else hasn’t been able to cancel either. I’m paying every month for something I would use if I didn’t have to hold my phone with earbuds in for two hours.

    Decided to give shudder another chance. Save your money and time. Every time I try to watch something, it keeps telling me that I need to update my subscription. Contacted customer service and I’m still waiting for a response.

    Tried it out to watch the sadness and see what the app had. I think it has some hidden gems and older movies, personally I don’t care about quality. My biggest issue is the search engine and the main Home Screen shows very few movies they have to offer. Found it easier to google what was on the app because you have to be very specific when searching for something.

    the shudder app has great content, i love the range of horror movies available and some series too. the shudder originals are fun & if you love all varieties of horror then content gets an A. the navigation of the app is not very user friendly. when compared to other streaming services apps the set up is not intuitive. the navigation menu is at the top. the enter screen is a live tv mid-movie auto play. id prefer to land on my homepage (which is currently hiding being as it's the LAST option). when you search for content (second to last option for some reason) it does not have a smart search and will not find your result until you've typed it entirely. if you want to search movies with NIGHT in the title you can't just search the word NIGHT and see all items that contain the word night you need to search the name exactly. i would also love to be able to search genres like "vampires". they have some prefilled categories but it's not very intuitively created. i think if the app end user interface had an update this would be a great experience overall.

    I loved this app a couple of years ago, but it seems the app is atrocious for iOS users to get through. Everytime I try to load a movie on my phone it tells me to update my subscription even though I just did it. Anyone know a fix? Or is this unique to just me?

    I don’t like writing reviews. I rarely do. And I know this is technically the review place for the iPhone app but I am so upset and frustrated/upset/disappointed in how bad the app works on multiple fire tv’s and fire stick that I decided to put bad reviews for Shudder anywhere I can. I am also going to have to cancel paying for the service as it had become unusable. No other streaming apps I use (and I literally pay for almost everyone in existence) had issue except for “Paramount+” but they have since fixed how bad there app was so I will give credit that they fixed their app. But come on. In this day and age for an app to crash and say “sorry, video cannot be played at this time” and the app repeatedly crashing and kicking me back to the Home Screen. No other streaming apps do this. Not even POV Horror Found Footage Films which is a small app and not run by a big company like AMC. This is just bad coding. Bad programming. Hire someone that knows how to do app design. Whoever coded the Shudder app is horrible and should find another career path as your app runs like ****. If every other app from every other company. Netflix, Pluto TV,Tubi, Prime Video, Paramount+, Disney+, Hulu, YouTube TV, HBO Max, Apple TV, Peacock, POV Horror just to name a few all run with no issues how is it that the Shudder app runs so bad. I am so tired of struggling to clear the cache and restart my tv 2-3 or more times to get the app to play a movie. And then if you fast forward to get back to the part it crashed on… we’ll forget that as that will cause another crash. Then “sorry, we are unable to play the video at this time” or “Sorrry, video currently unavailable. Lol. Whatever the message is. Stop saying sorry. Fire the person that created the app. Hire or outsource to one of the many talented and capable people out there that can redo your app to work like all the others. It’s only Shudder. 3 different tv’s now. So it’s not the TV. 3 different brand tv’s. Fire stick. Doesn’t matter. Still same issues. But all the other apps run great. I love horror so like having Shudder but honestly Hulu and Tubi TV believe it or not has a better horror selection. Prime is pretty good too. Netflix is just Netflix so got some horror but nothing spectacular. Anyways Shudder = medium level library of movies and runs like crap. If it was not for Joe Bobs last Drive in Show I would have already cancelled Shudder. Shout out to Joe Bob. Anyways. If it runs on the iPhone and uou want to watch on small screen well great. But just had to share how bad Shudder has been overall. I guess until I stop paying them a monthly fee I am still the sucker. Joe Bob get your own App so I can canacel Shudder. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Had a membership a while back but cancelled because I didn’t have time to watch stuff. Decided to subscribe again but the website kept giving me an error when I tried to put in my info. Then when I tried on my phone through iTunes it said I had a membership but then Shudder wouldn’t play anything and kept taking me back to the little screen saying I don’t have a membership. Yet when I clicked the button it would state I did in fact have a membership. Messed with it for almost an hour and I’ve just given up. Not worth the headache.

    The l8est upd8 is AWFUL. It took 4ever 2 loc8 the cc/subtitles (it’s the headphones icon) & it doesn’t doesn’t stay on once selected. It stays on whilst watching the movie, but xit the app & when u open it again u have 2 select it AGAIN if u want it. So. I am deaf. I NEED THIS FEATURE. I used 2 b able 2 select it & was good 2 go, everything stayed subtitled. They’ve “retooled” the entire app & downgraded it. I can no longer select screen size with the little arrows. It’s now way 2 skinny horizontal & I can c the battery percentage & time in the upper corners of my iPad screen which is distracting as all get out. Don’t get me wrong, but 100% of the effort goes 2 acquiring content & zero effort goes in2 a quality app. Aanndd… every time I write a review 4 a movie, I hit “send”, it never shows up. Also, b warned, the entire app is run by bots. No human @ all. Literally zero customer support. I’ve had Shudder since day 1 & not once have I ever gotten a response from an actual person. Gonna skip renewing my subscription. Sad bcuz their content is gr8 but clearly that’s what they xpect 2 carry them, content alone. Bcuz otherwise the app is poor quality.

    App runs smoothly for me and I can’t recall ever having any issues. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is that it only has one channel for live streaming, and I really enjoy watching the “Slashics” live stream on my tv.

    This is probably the 3rd time I’ve had this Problem. For some reason, even though I’m current on my subscription, I can’t watch movies on the service. When I log in I’m prompted to sign up for the monthly subscription but I’ve already paid the yearly rate. Worse is that the customer service is not very responsive and I’m almost certain they have no one working on the weekends. Are you guys an international streaming service? Or a couple of servers running ins on Doris basement?

    I’ve had shudder for years. The past YEAR it won’t play on a single device I used. Android phone: the movie will play but skips so much that you cannot watch anything, Smart TV: ERROR 0016-40000-00 code for literally a year straight on my tv, iPhone: ERROR code again but a different one, iPad: ERROR code again. That is 4 did devices that will not allow me to watch anything on the app. I’ve asked Shudder for help, I’ve asked Shudder for refunds and I just get ignored.

    I downloaded shudder back on my phone to watch some shows and it will not work. It use to work just fine. I can watch it on tv. But the app on the phone keeps giving an error message. I’ve tried everything. Please fix.

    I have nothing but praise for Shudder’s service so far as content goes: I love the movies, the curation of the films is top notch, and the new Shudder productions are creatively on the top shelf. Shudder falls dreadfully short in it’s technology, though. The apps are glitchy to the point of absurdity, the search function goes off the rails as though possessed, and cross-device integration simply doesn’t work: it makes the service feel slip-shod and unprofessional. I even wonder if the complaints others have about the content is really a tech problem. I love Shudder and will always keep my subscription, but whoever is in charge of making sure the apps get the content to the viewer needs a serious talking-to.

    I signed up for a free trial and canceled before the period ended. Still got charged for a month AND THEN—when I tried to watch anything—was met with a message that I wasn’t subscribed. Also on the app I couldn’t look through the options on the top menu bar so what I could see was super limited. ☹️

    This is why companies go out of business: Losing subscribers one after the other because they can’t get the app to work. After trying for 40 minutes to get the dumb appletv app to work ( it won’t recognize that we are logged in, despite somehow knowing that we are already a subscriber and telling us we can’t subscribe again when we gave up logging in and tried that route; nor will it even allow the remote to move the cursor up into the menu labeled “account”), I decided to put the app on my iphone and log on there. It actually let me log in, so kudos there, but then when I picked movies to play it kept giving an idiotic error message. Utterly abysmal. You know what would be better than this app? Getting out all my old vhs tapes and my video cassette player and watching a movie that way. At least I could actually start watching something. Just give up, AMC. You don’t possess the coding chops to pull this off. Or maybe contact a company that knows what it is doing, like Netflix, and see if you can partner with them for the software to play your movies. It might cost you a lot, but you could afford it by firing all of your software developers. They have no clue what they are doing.

    Shudder has been an absolute godsend for me as a lifetime hardcore horror film addict. First, there are classic horror mainstays that seem to have been on the site for years now.. films that Shudder very intelligently made sure to cut deals to always have available.. like Night of the Living Dead, Halloween, Evil Dead, ReAnimator, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Black Christmas, Cannibal Holocaust, and Sleepaway Camp. These are some of the all-time greats that really make up the backbone of the horror film genre. Then there are the Shudder Originals and other newer films… Despite what the plethora of negative complainers may say, there are a ton of EXCELLENT films, some ranking among the scariest I’ve ever seen (Host, Terrified, Z, Scare Package, The Cleansing Hour, Patchwork, Let’s Scare Julie). Next to IFC, Shudder produces and streams great new films on the most consistent basis. Until I found Shudder, IFC and A24 were always my go-to’s for cerebral horror films with actual stories and characters you CARED about, rather than ones you just waited to see get massacred. And like other streaming sites, Shudder has a revolving door of great films that it will have available for a month or so… Like most recently, viewers were treated to Halloween II, Evil Dead 2, Return of the Living Dead, Texas Chainsaw 2, The Babadook, and Rabid, to name a few. Yeah, it’s always a bummer to see them go, but they always have more great ones on the way. Plus, many times, great films tend to come around again pretty regularly. And for the biggest selling point for me, JOE BOB BRIGGS IS BACK with a new series and collection of holiday specials, The Last Drive-In. For somebody that grew up watching MonsterVision on TNT religiously every Saturday while in junior high, this is a real treat. My hero. I love Shudder so much, sometimes I get worried about that it may suffer the same fate as FearNet before it… But it really does seem like Shudder has a much larger fanbase, with TONS more original content (both movies and shows), so as long as people continue watching (Joe Bob’s very first 24 hour marathon for Shudder literally broke the internet with traffic), I think Shudder will be around for a very, very long time as the #1 source of everything Horror. P.S. … It may not seem like it, but a WONDERFUL companion app to Shudder is, surprisingly, Tubi… They have a VAST selection of AMAZING (repeat, AMAZING) horror films from the 70s and 80s that aren’t available on Shudder. I mean after all, it’s impossible to have EVERYTHING available. But between the two, they make up a horror fan’s dream… So for $5.99 a month, you can have both Shudder and Tubi combined for one of the BIGGEST AND RIDICULOUSLY GREATEST DATABASES CHOCK-FULL OF HORROR FILMS OF THE 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and NEWER GREATS OF THE LAST 20 YEARS… I’m gushing just thinking about it… “Joe Bob says… check it out”

    I have paid for Shudder for some time, but for the past 3 months I constantly get metadata errors and I remove the app and go through the process of restarting it and signing back in only to find that it still doesn’t work. I cannot continue to pay for the service when there are so many out there that do work. I love horror, but Shudder needs to fix this app.

    First off, I want to note how much I loooooove Shudder. Even if the apps are glitchy and lack basic features that allows every other streaming service has. It has a great selection of horror movies and I looooove their series like Behind the Monsters and Cursed Films!!!! I do get frustrated that there isn’t a closed caption setting in the iPhone app or the Roku app. I’m not sure about the website or other apps, but I feel like all of their apps should have this. While it’s still worth the lack of features and glitchiness, itd be cool to get some updates!

    Web browser version is ok, but the app is unusable on multiple platforms. You've got a good thing going, but fix the broken stuff or you won't have any subscribers
