Signal Generator App

Turn your iPhone into an amazingly powerful signal generator and produce perfect sine, cosine, square, triangle or sawtooth waves. You can even generate white and pink noise with this versatile App. This “must have” tool is perfect for any audio-related testing or calibration: - Test your headphones or speakers - Set up and calibrate your surround system - Tune an instrument - Test your hearing: What frequencies can you hear? (And not hear?) - Or simply generate annoying noise to drive someone completely nuts ;-) Features: - Sine, cosine, square, triangle or sawtooth waves - Pink or white noise - Direct frequency input or dial wheel (sweep) - Frequency range between 20 and 20000 Hz - Current waveform is shown on your screen - No samples - all signals are generated in real time - Channel switch (left, right or both) - It’s high-tech, multi-frequency fun at its best!

Signal Generator app reviews

  • Not Ready For iOS 10 2/5

    By ayampols
Says it will slow down the phone every time it launches.
  • Broken on iOS 10 1/5

No sound coming out of my speakers
  • Worthless 1/5

Update this potentially great Freq. Generator to accommodate the "FULL Frequency SPECTRUM". I was so pleased when I first started using the app until I started turning the potentiometer up a few kilocycles and realized it was missing huge chunks of frequency range! Where's the other half of the spectrum? Find your pride and make this (already on the way) tool, complete & the best that it can be, and I'll do my part! * * * * * .....Jules
  • Doesn't work on 5S 1/5

Works fine on iPad Air but definitely doesn't work on my iPhone 5S. I'd like a refund please.
  • Works beautifully 5/5

Simple, elegant, easy to use. Enormously helpful in debugging problems.
  • Best featured... 5/5

For the money. Bar none. Worth the extra 0.99. (Any review less than 5 stars needs to learn how to use the app- EVERYTHING works ok).
  • Great app for those getting started in DIY Audio 5/5

    By Captain Awesome 2000
I'm just getting my feet wet building my own speaker enclosures. This program works very well as a testing tool. I was up and running in seconds. The interface is very well made. The program works great. I went and installed all three apps that I thought would meet my requirements. This app wins by land slide. I'm still trying to understand how to use the (R) button properly... I'm sure ill get it figured out soon enough.
  • Unfortunately... 3/5

    By WLG1958
Frequency controller is not continuous, but jumps from 20Hz to 30 Hz, to 30 Hz, etc.
  • No sound 1/5

    By Hiredgun73
Looks easy enough to use but no sound. Kind of defeats the purpose.
  • Waste of money 1/5

    By Dr. Ogg
    Doesn't work simple as that
  • Marginally useful 3/5

    By BklynEm
Sine wave freqency is right on. Some 3rd order harmonics, but not bad. Square wave has lots of ringing at around 1K, but is totally unrecognizable by 5K. Same with sawtooth. Triangle is good, and the frequency is right on at 1K; by 10K it is a sine wave approximation. Comes up in A 440. Wish you could request a different particular note.
  • What they said. 1/5

    By Tempesth
Square wave (which is what I typically use the most for testing) is useless. And the wheel doesn't work as expected. I know I shouldn't expect a lot from an app, but still paid $$ for something that should at least be semi useful on the go.
  • Knob doesn't work. 3/5

    By jmbarbera
Puts out a decent signal but the knob is useless. Frequency either doesn't change or it jumps around. I'll have to keep looking for an app with continuous frequency control...or drag out my function generator.
  • Great App...but, 5/5

    By Hard Charger
Great App!!! Can you please update so it can play even why the screen is locked? Thanks
  • Two things 4/5

    By Noleli
This app does what it says, but the wheel doesn't quite work right, at least on the iPad. It jumps around quite a bit. Also, it doesn't play in the background, which severely limits its usefulness.
  • Broken 1/5

    By xyvvf
Hooked to an oscilloscope. As other reviewer said, square and sawtooth are broken. Only good for sine + triangle
  • Something Wrong 1/5

    By dgemv
This app is messed up. The sine wave sounds as expected but the square and saw sound more like chords or hard sync tones. I ran through my oscilloscope and saw all sorts of crazy ripples. The sawtooth isn't even the right frequency. I want my money back.
  • Actually it works well.. 5/5

    By xrcfs
Looks like it prevents phone from locking so it plays continuously. Excellent.
  • Good app! 4/5

    By Xlrnat9
Looked through many signal generator apps and this one had all I needed and all on one interface without being cluttered or costing too much. I have no complaints, it leaves me wanting almost nothing more.
  • Frequency scrubbing. 5/5

    By felix jonathan
Frequency scrubbing no longer distorts. THANK YOU for fixing it. It makes such a big difference. Now I can use this to test audio setups at gigs, during prep or to train my ears. I hope you guys keep improving the app. The jog wheel could use refinement and so could the arrow buttons and numerical input section. Another great addition would be multi-tasking. Please keep up the good work and thank you guys.
  • XLNT 5/5

    By Flavor32
Just what I needed. The only feature request I have is up down arrows for the frequency so you can easily step through freqs without using the jog wheel. Maybe these could be tapable spots inside the jog wheel?
  • Just what I needed 5/5

    By Kirs
Great signal generator. Does everything I needed. The UI is simple and intuitive. I only wish it had to ability to keep the iPhone from going to sleep while generating tones.
  • Does what it says, and more. 5/5

    By Burke9077
While the app describes it can output 20hz-20Khz, it actually does more. We tried playing 12hz, and it worked nicely. We could, of course not hear it, but feeling it was pretty cool. Anyway, it does what it says, and is a 5/5.
