Three Stars 3/5
Crashes and freezes constantly. But I love the “new” stations that play brand new music. You’ll never get brand new stuff on Pandora.
After a few songs it stops working. I usually have to shut down the app and restart it.
By unhappy skipper
I love slacker, but right now, the service i get is crap. Sometimes I get kicked out and I end up having to put the a code in, this isn’t the issue. But then after I put the code in, I’m unable to skip the songs I don’t wanna hear yet i pay for that feature. I dunno if there’s gonna be a fix for that.
Good, but... 1/5
Why is it I can ban an artist on Roku but not on the mobile app? You guys keep mixing Limp Bizkit in with great music and it's ruining the experience. And no matter how many times I hit 🚫 you guys keep on playing them. No one should ever have to listen to Limp Bizkit. Ever.
Great music 5/5
This app is easy to use and provides consistent music.
Great alternative 4/5
By Timeless GFX
I just found Slacker and it’s my new go to music app. Here’s my take on the others (I listen to 90’s hip hop, new pop and R&B, and lots of EDM):
Pandora - repetitive
Spotify - radio is not great
Apple Music - radio is bad
Slacker - radio is really good and plays lots of good songs I never heard. The only negative is the UI, it’s difficult to navigate and hard to know where you are in the app. Buttons can also use a redesign, a mix of sharp corners and rounded ones clash a lot. Keep up the great curative songs coming!
Worst Radio App Ever 1/5
Okay, it’s time. Time to judge and being honest. Before I start my paid membership today on the radio plus, I paid enough attention to other feedbacks and I realized something important which once upon a time used to be available with this radio plus has been canceled and categorized in a highest level of membership with $9.99 and I bought my membership with full acknowledgment about this in particular but for what I experienced with this app, I didn’t expect anything worse and surprisingly right now and even before a whole day membership I just canceled the automatic payment and end of the story. I really have no idea what the designers of this app are thinking about but obviously they have forgotten that people are comparing similar service apps together and this one which supposed to be no advertise and pure music is everything but what it says it is. Anyway I am more comfortable to get back to my iHeartRadio or even Tunein radio with almost the same amount of monthly payments and don’t trick myself with something that is not even close to be a two stars app in my evaluation.
Sorry that I had to be honest but that’s all I had to say.
Long time User 1/5
I have had slacker since they were on blackberry and after always paying for unlimited skips and offline music but now after slacker has changed around the pricing they will be loosing me as a customer they no longer offer anything that someone else doesn't have.
Best AI, buffering issue fixed? 4/5
By Uncle Ferdie
For almost 1yr Slacker would take forever to buffer....slower than YouTube at 1080i, slower than Pandora by earth evolution cycles etc.. The only thing that kept me as a paying listener was their ability to build excellent stations based on artist or song preferences and in this area I think they’re still the best. I’ve tried Spotify/Pandora but they don’t serve it up as well as Slacker. 7.19.1
LOVE IT 5/5
Slacker is AMAZING!!!!!!!! I can listen to my favourite when I’m in the car if I download the playlist to offline! This feature comes in handy when you don’t have a phone with data. This also has Imagine Dragons!!!!!!!!! Here are some of the songs on my playlists: who we are, gold, hedwigs theme, warrior, viva la Vida, and many more!!! PLEASE GET THIS APP!!!!!!!!!!!
Way better than FM Radio! 5/5
No repeats all day like terrestrial radio
Boooooo slacker 1/5
Slacker radio hates heavy metal
Pop up Video Ads 2/5
As a free Slacker user for many years, I have loved Slacker because of the noninvasive ads. However I noticed lately there are full screen multiple video ads that have nothing to do with music that have started popping up when playing stations. Very annoying and not necessary. I see many user complaints in the near future because of this.
Keeps crashing 2/5
Keeps crashing when adding artists to station
Good but has problems 1/5
Used to like the app but I specifically chose it for the inexpensive offline listening which is now gone. I won’t be using it anymore.
Slacker radio 3/5
Can you please add Radio Disney Back on this app and add disney channel zombies soudtrack too
What’s the deal?! 2/5
After many attempts to resolve the issue I’m having, I’ve decided to uninstall. Slacker beats the crap out of pandora or Spotify, but the constant freezing and hang-ups has me at my wits end.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled more times than I can count. I’ve upgraded my phone and still experience the same issues. An iPhone 8 should NOT have any issue running this app whatsoever.
If I’m lucky, I can get 3-5 songs in a row and then silence. Anytime this happens, it’s before or after an advertisement. It just freezes. I can’t skip ads so my only option is to force quit the app and restart it. Forget it.
Like ads? 1/5
Then this is for you try jango not nearly as obnoxious although it still beats pandora
Pretty good except.... 4/5
By Rachel Wolfwood
Was very happy to find this. They have an excellent blues area with great music. Comedy is pretty good too. Only thing not cool is they will do an ad for a downloadable game. While driving I can't exactly pull over everytime to close out the ad when done.
Great music. Gobs of genres. Just love it!!
Enable Alexa to connect! 3/5
Love the electronic channels on this app. Hoping one day we get Alexa connectivity too (like Spotify).
Also the app is inconsistently buggy. Music plays on WiFi, then stops suddenly for no reason. Hit play, it plays for a song or two, then stops. This has been happening for years and I just dealt with it. I like the content for electronic, but now that they have removed offline downloads, I’m ending my subscription.
Excellent with one minor complaint 4/5
Easy to use. I wish they had a bit larger playlist for each genre but it’s still very good. As good or better than the others.
Better than Pandora 5/5
This is the PERFECT mix of Pandora and Spotify. I've been using Slacker for years and it's a shame it's so underrated.
I was good with $4 not 10 1/5
I’m out after over 8 years as a loyal customer. Good luck...
The chill station is the best out of all providers of streaming music
offline listening $4 —> $10... sub —> no sub 2/5
Big joke to put a music service up there with the higher tiers of video streaming provider. I wholly like the radio content delivery shtick. A great thing i enjoyed was to load up an older iPod, take it out with it to exercise or knock around with. Didn’t need WiFi or a SIM card, just played what was downloaded. Serving as a Walkman of old.
Now, they expect you to either put the wear on my phone (and risk losing coverage if out on trails, or fork over an additional amount 1.5x the cost of the original package. I was introduced with Milk Music (which had a much superior dial channel selector) but I supported Slacker after they shut down the value added content they offered with Samsung phones.
They can come back to $4 and count me a sub. Or at the least humor the process and come up with a decent lyrics display (that properly renders horizontally) or something so we’re not just getting gypped.
Can’t cancel subscription. 1/5
The directions the developers are giving me is wrong for my iPhone 8. Online it tells me to modify my account within the app. The app will let me upgrade, but in order for me to downgrade or cancel my subscription, I am forced to follow directions that takes the consumer on a wild goose chase. Good luck canceling.
Offline Issues 1/5
That was the main benefit of the Radio Plus subscription. Now they've removed offline listening, but still charging $3.99 for the Plus services. That's four bucks a month extra in my pocket now!
Slacker is aok with me 5/5
Been a pandora user for a while but recently they decided to not allow me to skip some content due to licensing issues? I don't care about their bad license decisions. I deleted the app and I'm a slacker only user now.
Amazing but one thing 4/5
10/10, 5/5 ten mangos out of ten mangos but the reason it’s a 4 right now is because recently I can’t turn my phone to sleep mode without slacker turning off my music. Weird bug. Other than that. I would rate this app, 10 monkeys out of 10 apples. Would recommend
Best Music Radio Ever 5/5
I love this app because it has almost all of my favorite songs.
Useless now 1/5
Loved Slacker for many many years but now that they have taken offline play away the app is unless to me. Thanks Slacker..... I’m loving Pandora now.
Skips disabled 1/5
By skips info
When I have to take a security check it disables my skips please fix this
Longtime subscriber 5/5
I love this app. One of my favorites. Great selection of music. Plenty of categories to choose from. I usually don't have any issues connecting. Highly recommend.
Hard to cancel subscription 1/5
They make you call your service provider to cancel. You can’t cancel on the phone application, or on their website. You literally have to call the provider. Why is that even a thing? Very frustrating.
Skips are limited even in paid plan 1/5
Apparently if you skip songs more than is desirable they will block you from skipping for an hour. I wanted to love this service. In fact, I did, but this is a deal breaker. If I pay for unlimited skips that’s what I expect.
Slacker Radio what a wonderful thing 5/5
I can’t imagine not hearing Red and Parker everyday it makes me feel like I’m home.
They’ve got it right. 5/5
By Frank V
In a sea of options for streaming music and other audio content, Slacker got it right. Dynamic and engaging content that offers elements of traditional radio with the flexibility of a steaming service. This is my go to.
Slacker keeps me on beat 5/5
Many years now I have been using Slacker. Where else can you find so many option to match your mood. Example for tonight I am thinking classical to help me relax into slumber.
Can’t ask for more 5/5
So glad I switched from Spotify.
My go to Streaming App 5/5
By JT zoooom
I trust Slacker. After years of using it I can say it is wonderful and it truly rocks!
Best Artist match 4/5
By Polo's Dad
I found Slacker to have the best matches for artist I like and the best playlist of music genres.
Updating app 4/5
I don’t even updates this app. My older version stays the same without any issue
Cancelling 3 paid subscriptions. 1/5
By PA Mike
I have loved slacker for many years, but our time has come to an end. I just cancelled auto renewing on 3 paid accounts for myself and my kids because Slacker seems to have removed the ability to play offline (download) music on the Plus account. This is a deal breaker. This is very disappointing, and I hope they loose lots of customers.
See ya later 1/5
I’ve used this app for ages and it’s been great. But the recent update doesn’t allow you you stream music while being in other apps OR while you turn your screen off. So in order to listen you MUST have it on the app even when you want to conserve power and turn the screen of!! Why tho???? They’re pullin a “YouTube” on us guys....
Too many issues to stay 1/5
The 3.99 Plus was great. Had several issues here and there; I tried Pandora last month only to come back this month and find out the they removed offline listening from Plus. So not paying 3.99 for what I can get free, minus the unlimited skips. Seriously, 3.99/mo for unlimited skips. No warning it was changing? I’ll pay more somewhere else if I have to.
Don’t upgrade! Actually don’t DL App! 1/5
You may think the lowest subscription will be good, it’s not! I tried upgrading same day I got lowest sub, guess what? Charged for both no refund. Cancelled cheaper sub, guess what?! Charged again next month for both! Wrote my woes, Slacker says they can’t do sh*t about it. 40$ wasted no refunds.
Slacker is a group o 1/5
Just like the many slacker users, they really messed me up! I originally purchased the app thru my android phone ( which continually malfunctioned) and then purchased an Apple product. This change in slacker products makes it certain that I will not be using them anymore . With the android device you can purchase any app no matter how much it is unsafe. With Apple devices you have to purchase thru I Tunes . Because I no longer have the android phone i cannot upgrade to the newest slacker app. I cannot use my off line tunes that I used because wi-if and phone service is not everywhere I am. Slacker could just close my android app and then I could upgrade, but no ! Does any one know of a better app that also includes off line cashing?
Upgrade for offline at more that twice the price! 1/5
Been a Slacker subscriber for about 10 yrs now. $3.99 for “plus” got you offline play. Now they decide to more than double the price ($9.99 for premium)
Good bye Slacker
Best internet radio app 5/5
I've tried them all. Nothing beats Slacker. I have the Alternative, New Country, or Today's Hits stations going all day at work. Best 4 bucks a month I spend!
Update 1-12-18: I wrote this review years ago, and it’s still true
