Just what I needed 5/5
By ~ Happier, healthier me
Sleep studies and statistics confirm our need for 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep every night to be healthier, feel better and be the MOST productive!
Sleep cycle app not only helps you to get the sleep necessary but it wakes you up gently and only as you are coming out of a sleep cycle just when you are ready to awaken.
You will wake up refreshed and be ready to take charge of your day instead of your day taking charge of you!
It is a fabulous tool to help you understand your own sleep cycles and habits so you can improve your sleep for a healthier, happier life!
Latest update 2/5
Like other users have already commented, the latest update has caused the alarm to not function effectively. The volume of the alarm, even when turned up full, is hardly loud enough to be heard. Three nights in a row, I overslept the alarm because I couldn’t hear it. Also, the snooze feature requires you to pick up the phone as opposed to before when you could just tap it. I liked the previous snooze feature, though other users may disagree. Please fix these issues ASAP!
Other than that, I have been using this app for years and have loved it. Helps me wake up more intuitively. I especially like the data tracking so I can see what affects my sleep quality and adjust daily habits for a better night’s sleep.
New Update 👎🏼 1/5
The app has not performed well since the last big update. One night it completely crashed and the alarm did not go off in the morning. Last night it completely drained my phone’s battery, even when plugged into the charger. Won’t be using the app until it gets updated again.
Helps make sleep a priority 5/5
By Elizabeth Bercaw
By tracking my sleep, I’m already placing more importance on quality sleep. Getting to bed earlier, and winding down sooner.
Alarm stopped being loud enough to hear after last update 1/5
After the last update the alarm volume went really low even though it was still set loud. It didn’t wake me up. Not helpful. If this alarm can’t wake me up then it’s pretty useless.
It’s great, but... 3/5
By Floating narwhal
This app has a lot of functionality, except when it comes to the alarm sounds. Why does the app only allow you to pick songs from apple music? Why can’t I use music from other platforms to wake me up? To me, the appeal of the premium membership came from the extra options, but they really limited themselves in that area. What good is the 30 bucks a year if I have to have an apple music subscription, which would be another 120 a year, to wake up to the music I want to hear.
It’s honestly, hands down the best alarm app. The peaceful noises, the helpful tips. Just download it and see for yourself.
App needs to be fixed 2/5
By Anonymous 220
I’ve been using this app since 2012, and it has been excellent. The new update has made it unusable. It doesn’t wake me up anymore.
Please fix this as soon as possible.
great job on the battery usage! 5/5
With a recent update the battery usage went down to only 20% for full night of tracking with microphone (iphone 7), including listening to a 1h podcast while falling asleep. Awesome! Now I no longer need to use my old 5s for the podcast just so the 7 can be plugged in.
Excellent sleep app 5/5
Collects very good data. Haven't used the standard alarm in a while. Alarm wake up alert wakes me gently. Ability to snooze, and set sleep notes is tremendous. Available charts really help me understand habits that help or hinder good sleep. Awesome app so far. Installed on my previous Note 4, iPhone 6+ and now on my iPhone 8.
The app was working fine until the most recent update. I keep my phone plugged in overnight and I used to wake up to 100% charged battery with the app running all night. I’m having hard time even charging my batteries as my phone dies overnight and the app is useless now that it can’t wake me up or track my sleep if the phone dies
Happy user....until now. 1/5
Please roll back the latest update. I am no longer able to stop a session and review the data. Please fix.
Battery usage unacceptable 1/5
App okay except it causes my Apple Watch 4 to go from 90% to less than 10%. I work out in the morning so have to recharge twice a day. This is unacceptable!
Update: 3/15/19: I downloaded the the update that said it significantly improved the battery usage and will updated.
This alarm no longer works. Volume of alarm never increases when it goes off, so it's whisper quiet, until the phone is unlocked. This obviously makes the alarm useless as it can't be heard until you're awake and using your phone anyway. It was a 5* alarm, but is now unusable.
I love it, except... 4/5
This is a great app. I use it every night and wake up to it every morning. I love all the musical alarms and wish that I could randomize them. But I cannot because I cannot stand the nature sounding alarms they added a couple years ago. Wind and birds do not wake me up. I wish this app let me choose which alarm sounds to include in its random mix. I would dump all the nature sounds and keep the music.
really useful, but 2/5
i love this app and it truly find the best time to wake me up. my only issue is that picking up your phone automatically snoozes the alarm and there’s no way to stop that. it’s super hard to wake up because when the alarm goes off i’ll pick my phone up and put it down to get more time. i have tried looking for other apps similar to this but none work as well as this one. please fix this option so i can use this app again
Good app(s) 4/5
This company has great apps! I love how they work together! Simple to use and work well! However, I really love the idea of the power nap app they were working on. I feel it should be a premium feature in the current app! But the app is still separate and seems abandoned. I honestly wish the premium subscription for this app also worked for power nap and sleep cycle.
I was glad they added the ability to play sound out external speakers, but note that because of how iPhones are designed, I believe wiring an aux cord mutes the microphone so you’d have to use the accelerometer.
New Update Killed It 1/5
I updated the app yesterday and then this morning the alarm didn’t go off until I picked my phone up. I have been using this app for around 8 years and haven’t had an issue until today. I woke up 2 hours after my alarm was set and was thankful I had first period planning today.
It’s still a bit new to me.
Alarm stopped working 1/5
By Club Cali Member
Everything was working perfectly normal until this morning when the app didn’t wake me up at the designated time, it randomly stopped working, I checked the sounds and everything to make sure they weren’t off and even the ringer was on for my phone. The alarm is which is the main function of the app failed to work, this caused me to miss a midterm, never using this app again.
Update broke audio support 1/5
I use this app with pzziz, always have. I use the accelerometer with head phones, always have. Since the last update any audio apps just crackle and crash within seconds if sleep cycle is active, not just pzziz but any audio. I have been doing this for years and years and all of a sudden an update that adds audio support for other apps breaks it. This happens with the alarm on or off after a device restart and a reinstall of both apps.
Also we need to talk about the Apple Watch. It’s been out for years now when is actual watch support going to be added? Sleep tracking on the watch, not just an alarm, we don’t need an alarm or a snore warning gimmick on our watch we need actual sleep tracking. It can be done and it can be done near flawlessly, AutoSleep, so isn’t about time sleep cycle includes this?
Anyway fix the audio issue and the alarm issues others are having ASAP, I know apple expedites app breaking bug fixes which this is.
I’m not emailing support or resetting my device this just didn’t happen out of the blue it happen immediately after an update was pushed through.
Non-Functional With New Update 1/5
I’ve been using this app for over a year and have never had a problem. This morning, I woke up 90 minutes past the time I had set. When I picked up my phone, the alarm finally started to go off, displaying that moment as the new wake time. It also did not log any sleep, flashing a warning (not enough movement detected). I have it set to use the microphone, not the accelerometer. Canceling my subscription and looking for a new app. Thanks for nothing.
Alarm not going off 2/5
Since last update the alarm has not been going off. Don’t know if it is the latest app version or latest iOS beta release but I’ve had to start using iOS alarm as Sleep Cycle is not waking me up.
Recurring Billing...no thanks 1/5
Had no idea this was a subscription based app until after using. Surprise! Can’t listen to your recordings unless you commit to a year lease on the app. Would have purchased if given a single billing payment option. But the likelihood of my using this app for a year and then remembering I’d subscribed would be slim to none, meanwhile charged again automatically after the year, for the rest of my life. What a deceptive, shyster move.
Great app 5/5
New update glitch! Warning don’t use alarm until it’s fixed! 1/5
I just updated the app and the first night I used the alarm it didn’t go off and I ended up being one hour late to work. I tested the app just now and realized that if the phone is locked the alarm never goes off and it also does not vibrate at all to alert you the alarm is going off. When this app works properly the alarm will go off starting at a low volume level and slowly increases the volume and will then start to vibrate to wake you up but with this new update the volume never increases and the phone never vibrates unless you manually unlock your phone so if you’re sleeping you’ll never know you need to unlock your phone to have the alarm go off. Please fix quickly because I can’t use this alarm for work anymore!
Drains Apple Watch battery massively for no benefit 4/5
If I wear my Apple Watch to sleep without the Sleep Cycle watch app running, I wake up with around 20% less battery. If I run the sleep cycle app, as I did last night, I instead wake up having lost 74% of my battery. Did I get more accurate sleep tracking? No, In fact, I tried the improved microphone mode, and my sleep graph is no good. All I got was being woken up by a vibration instead of a sound. Which is nice! But not for 74% of my battery! I don’t know what you guys are running on the watch to use that much, but you really should optimize it for battery performance above everything else.
Unrelated suggestion below.
Sometimes I put my sleep notes in, tap start, and then want to change them. Or maybe I don’t fall asleep right away and need to change the sleep notes. I have to end the sleep session to do this, or wait until morning when I won’t remember. I’d like to be able to edit the sleep notes without ending the sleep session.
Oh, and support LIFX lights already, I mean, come on...
Used it for Years 4/5
Love the app, especially when connected to my Philips Hue lighting system. My only reason for not making it a 5/5 review is that there is a timer on the sleep aid sounds. If the timer could be turned off, this app would stand alone as king.
This great App just got Better 5/5
I’ve been a fan of Sleep Cycle out for quite a while, but they just made it better. Thank you for adding the ability to select my own song to wake up to and also the enhancements to tracking my sleep. They’ve made a great App even Better! Great job!
Battery Consumption! 5/5
If this update reduces battery consumption overnight you have me forever! I love the app and this was my only complaint! Testing tonight!!
Good But has a very bad bug 3/5
Used to work fine, but now there has been a bug where once I click snooze the app doesn’t activate again. Has caused me to miss my class today.
Just one feature missing 4/5
This app is amazing. I recommend it to people all the time. I can only think of one feature it’s missing. I’d like to be able to pause my time in bed. I’m a father of two little kids and I’m often up with them in the middle of the night. The app correctly shows that I’m awake during that time but incorrectly counts that time as in bed. Add that feature and you’re a 5 star app.
Great for college students! 5/5
I am a student at Penn State University and I do Air Force ROTC as well, so I have some pretty early wake-up times. I used to have issues with sleeping through alarms, but Sleep Cycle wakes you up when your body is the most awake. You set an alarm and it gives you the range of time it will make the alarm go off. I have yet to sleep through an alarm or a class with Sleep Cycle; definitely recommend to busy college students!
Latest update broke the app 1/5
Latest update broke the app. I’m late for work this morning because the alarm didn’t go off. Yesterday morning the snooze stopped the alarm instead of snoozing it. I’ve been using the app for several years. It started with daylight saving time. The app “thinks” it’s working. I’ve checked the settings.
Malfunction wakes up in the middle of the night 1/5
I set the thing for 7:15 am and it decided to wake me up at 11:50 pm. Has done this 3 times in a row. NOPE!!! Deleting this app.
Btw, I took screenshots in case someone thinks I set it wrong.
Great but please add dream log feature 4/5
Another app I used had one, and gave a text box to type in right after the alarm was turned off
Daylight Saving Time 2/5
If you live in the US, the app does not handle the Daylight Saving Time change properly so beware if you need to wake up at certain times on those days.
Another thing I don’t understand.
You can go to sleep to a customized play list, but you can’t wake up to one.
Life Saver 5/5
I recommend this for anyone who is not a morning person. This us a true life saver!!! You can set up the alarm for when you need tp get up and it will give you the option to let it wake you up earlier if you are already almost awake. I need to wake up around 6:30 most mornings and one time it woke me up at 6:21. I did not feel groggy and went on with my day as usual and wasn’t tired at all. 5/5
I think it’s cool, but I wish functionality were added biphasic/polyphasic sleep 5/5
I would purchase the annual price if biphasic/polyphasic support were offered, such that I can combine two different sleep periods to calculate overall efficiency of sleep.
Based on personal preference and not for me 2/5
By this is now annoying
The app is very based on personal preference and is not for everyone. I was interested in how much sleep I was getting as I am a moderate to light sleeper. It didn’t really help as it picked up other sounds and movements. I left it running just to test it out in a quiet room. It spiked multiple times even though I was outside with the dog.
I could see very heavy sleepers liking he alarm but I wake up around the same time everyday so the alarm was just an annoyance to me.
Th app will also set you on a 1 year auto subscription so unless you want to pay $30 be sure to unsubscribe or change it. I deleted the app and forgot about it until I saw the charge. There’s no reminder.
Snore or not a snore 3/5
I’d like to be able to hear the supposed snoring with out paying
Great app! 5/5
Helpful app to adjust from jet lag and to monitor sleep health.
Drains watch battery 2/5
Worked well...woke me up at a nice time in light sleep. That’s why the 2 stars. Otherwise it would be a zero. I don’t think it would be possible to have an alarm like this that wouldn’t drain your watch battery. Too bad. I don’t have time to charge my watch before I exercise on work mornings. It completely drained mine. (iWatch 4)
Also super disappointed that you have to buy it for $30 to hear the recordings!!! Come on! It may have enticed me though, had it not drained my watch. Sorry but deleted. Can’t have a dead watch on work mornings.
FIX ALARM CLOCKS 5/5
The app is great I’ve been using it since 2018 every night , but my one concern over these past months is the need to change the alarm. So basically i need to tell the app that im awake to turn off the alarm and if I wanted to continue sleeping i would have to start a new cycle. I suggest if we can just turn of the alarm without interrupting my sleep cycle and having to close it and start a new one. So it all stays in one graph. Other than that the app is great!
Graphs are confusing 3/5
I like this app. I like the sleep data and to see how well I’ve slept. I like the features of sleep sounds, recording my snoring and the wake me up when I’m in a good part of the sleep cycle. What I don’t understand though are a lot of the graphs. They need more defining information. For example, sleep quality affected by the moon...and there’s a bunch of percentages. But what do those percentages really mean? All the graphs are like this. The Fitbit graphs are easier to understand.
I had this app for a year for free and it charged me $30 to my card. Thought my card got stolen so I cancelled my card before looking into it. Ridiculous.
Didn’t work 1/5
Got mainly to use on my watch, but the app wouldn’t even open.
Awesome app 5/5
So, I slept with this alarm, and I woke up at 7:00 without feeling tired! Next morning, I wake up with a regular alarm at 7:45 and I’m exhausted for the entire day! Great app. Definitely recommend it.
Auto syncing is disturbing 3/5
5 star app, but personally can’t give it 5 stars until allows me to turn off auto syncing. Currently my phone auto syncs with my roommate in a different room who also uses the app, & displays his name on my phone. Functionally, not an issue but that’s the last thing I want thrown in my face before sleep. It’s just disturbing and throws me off of trying to have a peaceful night of sleep and I don’t want to turn off WiFi every night for this.
