Keeping track of sleep 4/5
I usually use my Fitbit but I’m out of town and forgot my charger so I downloaded this app. I am amazed that it does keeps track of my sleep. I am happy using it.
No way to pause, no help links 2/5
By Happy Momma 08
I don't always take my phone with me when I get up at night, so once I leave the room the app thinks I've gone back to sleep. A pause button would solve this.
There's no link to email the company for support. The "help" section only lets you browse topics.
There are no specific details on the graph, such as at what time one actually fell asleep, how long one was in deep sleep, what time one came back up to the wake up level of sleep (my graph looks like I'd been awake for at least a half hour before my alarm went off), nor how long each sleep cycle lasted.
I would also like to be able to look at my screen during the night to what sleep level it is recording be in, to make sure that it knows I'm awake when I get up in the night and do take my phone with me.
There are a few spelling errors throughout the app (such as "you data" instead of "your data").
Besides that, I like it well enough. But with the problems, I'm going to try another sleep app like "Pillow."
Really bummed about the latest UI update 2/5
While I like the stats and journal refresh, I really can’t stand the change to the alarm UI.
It’s extremely counterintuitive compared to the old format. The worst thing a sleep app could do is make things more complicated for a user that’s trying to sleep.
I HATE this feature. Sometimes I feel like I don’t need it, so I’ll turn it off, but if I want it back on, I have to select one from the list. The old UI was so easy to use, I could toggle sleep aid on and off with a single press, while barely being awake. That’s not possible anymore. Why complicate this feature? What’s the reasoning behind making this harder to use while trying to sleep?
There’s also times where I don’t fall asleep before the sleep aid ends. The old UI, again, simple 1 press to turn it back on, new UI? I have to open the list, select none, then select another sleep aid, allllll while I’m trying to fall asleep.

Premium expired after 3 months 1/5
By Merry McK
I paid for the premium, which was an annual subscription, but was told it expired (after about 3 months) and received a message that I had to pay again for the year.
Amazing except one thing 5/5
By college trash
I love this app! I bought a new phone back in February and my old sleep app was no longer available so I got this one. This app has been amazing and I use it every night, makes the premium version worth it.
The only thing that would make this app better is if I could change the wake up times because every once in awhile I’ll “wake up” and end the cycle on accident and don’t want to add a new day
good app but maybe they should tell u it’s gonna use all of ur battery
Great app 5/5
I have loved the app! Cool and interesting!
One of the best apps I have 5/5
Honestly. It sounds weird, having an app listen to you sleep. But no joke, this app works VERY well. Highly, highly, recommend.
Do NOT download!!! 👹👹👹 1/5

It broke my battery as app is running all night and draining battery. It costs me 70USD for battery replacement. 👹👹👹👹👹👹
Latest version no longer reliable 2/5
I don’t mind the new graphic design, though I had no problem with the old design, either. My problem is that this app is no longer reliable. One time I woke up to find the app had frozen, recorded no data, and failed to set off the alarm. Another time, the alarm failed to go off at the end of the snooze. I still like the app, but an alarm app that doesn’t have a reliable alarm is a problem.
Unnecessary and unwelcoming changes 1/5
Don’t you just hate when you love an app and how it performs and they just totally change the look of it making it so upsetting you just want to delete it altogether? Well that is just what they did! Sad!!! Please bring the old look back!!!
Just read a bunch of angry rants by everyone on the latest update and I am so happy I am not alone. The new look feels like it is a toddlers app, like some one said, extra buttons and swipes to set up the alarm. Just absolutely awful!!! Seriously who did they hire to make the update?
Update 7/16/19 when will these people bring a button to bring back the old look of this app? About to delete the app altogether and look for something similar! Just give us the option to go back. And yes sometimes It simply won’t register anything, even though it is left on the same spot.
This app is completely broken 1/5
You’d think that an alarm clock app would work properly. This one doesn’t, I have it set for 5am during the work week and when it goes off between 430 and 5, it makes noise like it’s supposed to probably 3/5 times. For example, it just went off a couple minutes ago, with the phone volume at 100% and not muted and all it did was vibrate quietly. What good is that as an alarm clock if it doesn’t work properly? I’d recommend using a different app unless you want to wake up late.
Greta interface. The sleep sounds was a recent nice add.
It would be a big plus if it had auto sleep detection on the Apple Watch and Siri commands to enable sleep.
Simply Amazing. 5/5
I never write reviews but this app truly deserves it. It lets me wake up feeling wide awake even when running low on sleep.
Warns you if at risk of oversleep! 5/5
My alarm went off at 2 am to let me know that my phone is dying and will risk oversleeping if I don’t charge it! Life saver!
Not reliable!!! Set a backup alarm! 1/5
Twice I have set sleep cycle up, gone to sleep, only to wake up on my own in the morning to find that the app has turned off and recorded nothing!!!! Good thing I set a backup alarm!
Good old days 2/5
By coco wils
They’ve changed a lot on this app. Now you have to pay $30 for the premium app that had all the stuff on the regular app. Not cool to get a new phone and download from the cloud a completely different than what you had a few days ago. Used to be able to use my music. Not anymore.
Love the redesign 5/5
By Big, Big John
Much cleaner look and feel. Subjectively it also seems to be a little more accurate now.
Something is off with the data 2/5
By jjames B
I have been trying this app for almost 3 weeks now. I keep it in the same place by my bed every night .
I do like to know if I am going into a deeper sleep or not and for how long because I am having huge insomnia problems right now.
But , I find it odd to count a person “asleep” when they are wide awake, getting out of bed to go to bathroom, etc temporarily and getting back into bed.
Is “sleep” defined as breathing slowly and laying still in the bed?
Also since I certainly am not going to purchase premium now to verify the “snoring” noise , — I think when I am wide awake and turn on a little music , it must be counting music sounds as snoring ?! There is no way I can snore when wide awake
I’m learning to movement, rest, with deep sleep . I’m thankful to awaken to read about the nighty post . I’m in good health.
Upgrade woes 4/5
By sleepy tyger
Recent upgrade removed some of the cumulative averages from the free version. Boo! I do like the new User interface though. It’s more visually appealing. Yay!
Used to be great 3/5
I've used sleep for 5-6 years now and it was great until this most recent update.
Sleep quality used to mean something, now it simply seems directly proportional to the number of hours in bed. Did they change how things are weighted in the calculation?
I am a natural 6 hour sleeper, so having this app tell me I have poor sleep quality (50-60%) is surprising. I'm up, energized, feeling well rested. Out of curiosity, I let myself sleep 7, 8, and 9 hours and guess what, the percent went up almost proportionally: 70, 80, 98%.
However, over a decade of testing and tracking before and then with Sleep Cycle and I know that as the time I sleep exceeds 6 hours my mood, productivity, and how rested I feel decrease directly proportionally to the time increase past 6 hours. Less than 6 hours and there is a similar drop off in quality.
But if you look at the graph that the app tracked of the cycles I went through, on that 98% sleep quality night (last night) I did not hit deep sleep, I spent many of the cycles, especially after 5-6 hours, peaking in the "awake" zone and not going back down fully into sleep (even though I was out cold).
My friend Kaan had trusted this app back when he recommended it to me, he liked the fact that the developers were applying real research toward tracking our sleep and helping us wake up in an effective way.
In the past, the sleep quality rating seemed more accurate to how I felt, or at least it didn't seem simply directly related to my number of hours in bed. My curious question again for the devs: Did something change in how different inputs are weighed?
Also, is it possible to turn off the animation of the wheel filling up? I don't care for a fun animation. No hate on the person who developed it, they must be proud, but I'm not a fan.
I haven't yet needed the alarms since the update (I usually choose a much later wake time in the app so my body wakes itself up while still being able to track my sleep data), but they were phenomenal in the past.
- Great alarm that actually wakes you
- Convenient export to csv for working with in excel
- Regularly and well-supported app
- Developers grandfathered in users who bought pro and have demonstrated user-centric service
- New sleep quality doesn't seem representative of reality for me (at least for a long-time Sleep Cycle user)
- Some new UI elements added more complexity in what was previously a beautiful, simple, streamlined app
Fixing the sleep quality will get me to put this back up to a 5 star app. (I'll keep collecting sleep data)
They ruined snooze 1/5
By Mr Moopsy
Snooze now goes forever. Never ending snooze means you simply won’t wake up.
I loved the snooze feature paired with a wake up window. It would guarantee I wake up and stop snoozing at the set time but if I woke up in my wake up window could still snooze a bit longer.
The update... smh 3/5
I have used this app for years (7 to be exact) and have never had a complaint. This new update done a week or 2 ago took away the option to turn the sleep sound back on by simply tapping an icon in the corner. This was so simple to do when the baby had me up in the middle of the night I could, without much thought, turn my sound back on and be asleep in no time. Now I have to tap “sleep sound” turn it off then tap the sound I want for it to come back on. It doesn’t seem like it would be that difficult and it isn’t, but when you’re tired and half asleep, it’s just another unnecessary step that didn’t use to be there... just my 2¢, make it simple to turn the sleep sound back on again.
Global silencing of phone kills it for oncall and kid purposes 2/5
This app silences your texts, anything but a phone call, when running. This cannot be disabled, even in Settings. This makes it unusable if you need to be able to be woken up via text, app notification, etc.
Otherwise lovely. Except for this hidden disadvantage that is intended to be a feature, it’s lovely and has gotten much more feature rich over the years.
Siri Shortcuts 4/5
Can you add an option to use the app with Siri Shortcuts?
Update made it WORSE?!? On purpose?!? 1/5
I’ve used this app for years and given it 5 stars. They’ve now made it prettier, but removed the functionality. Why? I used to be able to see my averages for a week, month, year. Now just seven days. So annoying to not easily have the percentage for each. Why make app less functional?
Your loyal customer HATE this update. And, I love change, so it’s not that.
Here’s the ridiculous and useless reply from the developer? “Hi there! We have change that feature, but we do appreciate your feedback on this! All the best, Nora”
I’ve had this app for months. Never really had an issue. If the microphone didn’t work I could clear the app and reopen it and it would work again. The microphone hasn’t worked the past two nights and I have tried everything from clearing the app. To turning off the microphone in settings and turning it back on. So now I’ve had to delete the app to see if it will work again. I have lost all my data from past nights and I’m really not happy about it. And of course there is no way to get in contact with customer service to try to resolve the problem. Even though a notification pops up saying you can. If deleting the app and redownloading it doesn’t work I’m going to have to try to find another app. I’m extremely disappointed.
Deleting the app and redownloading it fixed the microphone issue but I have still lost all my data and now have to completely restart. Just a suggestion maybe you should link accounts to an email so people can log back in and have all their data stored.
Love this but... 4/5
I’ve been using this since about 2011 and love it But.. I noticed re entitled you cannot pick your sleep aid sound.
Am I missing something here?
New update 4/5
For the most the new update is fine, but where did all of the sleep stats for locations/cities go? It only shows the positive percentages. For some sadistic reason I also want to know where my crappy sleep occurs as well. Negative stats are no longer showing.
I have ALWAYS had the very hardest time waking up in the am’s - probably should have lost my job for being late too often. Since I have been using this app I literally wake up with out a problem. I know how it works but I am still completely amazed at how easy I wake up. Thank Goodness for Sleep Cycle. It really is life changing for me.
I’ve LOVED this app for years, but ever since version 6, my alarm has not woken me up once! I don’t know what if anything was changed, but it’s not doing the job anymore.
Great app but not reliable 2/5
Love the app... when it works. The problem is that around one in five mornings the alarm doesn't ring. The app might be crashing during the night or something. This has caused me to miss a flight. I need to set backup alarms with my built in iPhone alarm or Alexa. Extremely frustrating and I'd like a refund
Bring back... 4/5
I’ve had the app for years and really love it. With the newest update however they removed the feature that allowed you to see trends based on your sleep notes which was one of my favorite parts of the app...it’d be five stars if that feature came back.
Sleep Aid... 1/5
By jayspace the ace
Now, I’m normally a try it before you buy it person. Needless to say, I tried the premium and was ecstatic! I wanted to keep using the app. I let my premium subscription run out, however, only because I wasn’t going to be able to afford it. I log in to the app today, and I’m unable to even TURN OFF the premium features. If the premium features are going to be stuck in the “on” setting for good, I’ll say good bye. I like to turn things on and off, all the time. Always fiddling with how I want to sleep that night. I didn’t want sleep aid, I normally don’t. I turn it off every few nights. Turn it back on.
This is just stupid. At least when your premium runs out, ALL of your previous premium perks should be AUTOMATICALLY removed!
Perfect & almost everything 4/5
That's one of the apps that everyone must use. It's perfect but it could be better if there was a feature that shows how much you can get sleep when you are setting the alarm.
Great customer service 5/5
By It's me
I’ve been using this app for over a year and ended up with the paid version. I recently downloaded one of their other apps and had an issue that I really thought was going to make me loose all of my records. I was extremely unhappy with the thought of loosing everything after using over a year. Luckily, I decided to reach out to the developer and present them with my issue. They got back to me in a reasonable amount of time and resolved my problem with minimal effort on my end. Thanks so much!!
Disappointing w 7/19 update 2/5
I have enjoyed sleep cycle for more than 3 years. I dislike update 7/2019. The old settings were disabled. I’m a premium customer and I can’t change my email? Guess I’ll have to unsubscribe.
Latest update 2/5
I do enjoy using the gentle alarm from the free version of this app. The free version also used to include snore times, which was my main reason for downloading it. The latest update removed that feature from the free version. I’m not sure that I’ll continue to use this app since my main reason for doing so will now cost me $30/year. 😞
Update is bad 3/5
I have used and loved this for over a year. The latest update is bad! It says I am in a deep sleep even when awake and moving around. Not good for sleep analysis. So sad they changed it..
Need more accuracy 3/5
Time records are not accurate, sleep quality is entirely based on length of sleep not related to quality of sleep!
Sleep phases is not presented accurately. If you do not snore, you got a flat very deep sleep assessment. Alarm clock works well. Thank you!
I freaking LOVE this app. 5/5
So I had the premium thing for a while and I never really understood it at first so I kinda just deleted Sleep Cycle in the beginning. Then I realized that- I don’t know something about having your sleep tracked and stuff like that and getting to see it intrigued me. I had redownloaded this app and even paid for the full access as well just because I like everything it includes. IF YOU ARE SKEPTICAL- this app (without paying for any premium stuff) is an amazing alarm with this wake up phase, where is slowly wakes you up and this alarm really is the only alarm I’ll wake up to. I really recommend this app to anybody and everybody.
It’s so amazing it’s really helped I love the cute little questions it asks me to help my sleep it’s so good I can’t explain how good it is
I love this so much. I have learned what has and haven’t helped me sleep and I wake up refreshed. I recommend this app if you can’t fall asleep fast another app I love to use before I use sleep cycle is simple habit. I play a meditation and track my sleep at the same time. Thanks for this app!!!!
Still loving this app, however... 4/5
The latest update to this app has a glitch. I have selected one of my own songs for the alarm. Twice now, the alarm has gone off but the song that plays is not the song I have selected. It’s a different song from my library. I have gone into settings to make sure the correct song is highlighted, which it is, but still a different song will play. Kind of a weird glitch. Would really appreciate a fix.
Adjustable alarm volume 5/5
I originally downloaded a little over a month ago while just looking for a good alarm. I like the new update. it makes a lot more sense but I miss the ability to change the alarm volume levels. I’m in the Navy and sleep in close proximity with a lot of people and it was nice to have the option to have a alarm with adjustable volume to avoid waking up everyone around me whenever I have to be up and random times at night. Still going to use the app though just would appreciate having that back in a future update.
v6 is a horrible downgrade 1/5
This used to be one of my favorite apps (I’ve used it as a premium member for the better part of a decade), but the latest version is all added flash with reduced features and usability. Functionally, it still seems to track sleep correctly (hence two stars), however, accessing this data is significantly more difficult. Hopefully the developers take some of this review into consideration since there isn’t a place in the app to enter suggested features.
The good with v6:
-Larger Text. This wasn’t an issue for me personally but I can see how it benefits others.
-Slightly faster starting and stoping. Maybe it’s just how it works on my old(ish) iPhone, but it seems a little faster when starting and stopping the alarm. Scrolling through data is actually slower though (see below).
-A recap of the week’s nights at the top of the first data screen is a nice touch (although it’d be good if it was the last seven nights, not just a Sunday to Saturday setup).
The bad with v6:
-Needless animations. PLEASE get rid of the slowly growing circular bar chart (or whatever it is) that runs to show the quality for each night. I use this app for data, just give me the number. It’s an annoying feature and it’s not pleasant to be needlessly annoyed first thing every morning. At a minimum, allow the user to remove animations as an option.
-No long term averages. This is the biggest issue for me. You used to be able to get the average for the “days”, “weeks”, “months”, and “all” timeframes for each of the data points tracked. This made it easy to see if you were improving over time in terms of sleep quality, time in bed, etc. Now the app only gives you the past seven days no matter what timeframe graph you are looking at. This is a huge oversight. How am I supposed to know if I’m improving over time? That’s the whole point of a data tracking app.
-No data displayed with graphs. The old version of the app showed averages and other data with the graphs on the main page of the trends screen. Now you have to open the “more” button for each graph to see any of the data. This makes it difficult to go back and forth looking at what you are averaging (for example, looking at your average time in bed as it relates to your sleep quality).
-Increased navigation requirements. This relates to the above issues. Compared to the old version, I now have to click three times as much to see the day I need. It may not sound like much (twelve clicks instead of four for example), but when you’re flipping back and forth to look at and compare most of the data that is tracked in multiple timeframes, the added time spent navigating becomes substantial.
-The sleep aid requires way more navigation to turn on and off. It used to just be the click of a button to toggle it. Now if it’s off and you want it back on you have to open a menu, select a different sleep aid, then reselect the one you want.
Overall, this used to be a data centric app, which I loved. Version 6 adds needless flash for no perceptible reason. If data visibility wasn’t decreased, it would be a tolerable change. Since getting at the actual data is harder (if not impossible because it was removed), it’s a change that has ruined the user experience for me. I hope the Sleep Cycle developers can improve these negative changes in the near term.
I sent in a request with the related issues and got the response of “we’re sorry you don’t like it. Please reach out if there are any other problems.” This is clearly not a company that takes customer service seriously.
Change it back 2/5
I have loved this app for years but this new look is awful. The info is not in one easy place and much harder to evaluate in a quick glance. The font is terrible and why so many graphs? You tinkered with a good thing for no reason!
