I really liked the app until it updated. I paid for it when it came out in 2015. I could create my own sections for what happened during the day. I could see my sleep patterns all the way back to when I got the app. Now I have to pay more and it’s subscription based none the less. Not happy to see the company go this way. But I guess everyone needs more money and this company is no different.
I enjoy this app because it helps me keep track of my sleep and it’s not hard to remind myself to set it because I like using the alarm clock on this app better than on my phone. I love how it gives you a 30 minute window to wake up (example: you need to be awake at 7 and you set an alarm so it’ll wake you up in between 6:30am and 7am) and how it chooses to wake you up subtly based on where you’re at with your sleep with calm music. I also like how it has its own sleep sound effects to help you sleep and it doesn’t need an iwatch to track your sleep pattern. Very helpful but it’s just missing something...
Nothing but a loading screen and sales tactic 1/5
I got this because my company’s app connects to it; I briefly downloaded this because my week’s “challenge” was to track sleep using a sleep tracker like Sleep Cycle.
It was an interesting premise to begin with: turn on the sleep tracker before you go to bed, keep it on the nightstand next to you, set it to either do a specific time alarm or a soft alarm or no alarm, and do this for five days so it could start giving you information about your sleep habits.
Pros: it integrates with Health App, and the wake up window (“wake up easy”) alarm is nice.
Cons: basically the rest of the app.
I immediately noticed that the Journal tab is the only screen you can really spend your waking hours on. The problem is after being on this screen for five seconds, it goes into a perpetual “loading” state where I can’t interact with any other part of the app. I have to close out of Sleep Cycle completely and reopen it just to look at my sleep graph. I thought this was because the app was still “getting info” on me. Here I am, five days later, and the app still has this loading icon after being on Journal for a few seconds. What is it loading during the day?
Five days in, I look at my graphs, and realize that the couple of nights I used the sleep guide, I’m supposedly not going to sleep fast, but having deeper and less erratic sleep. On the nights I don’t use the guide, I supposedly fall asleep immediately, but I have a roller coaster of a sleep cycle. The app is basically telling me that I have to use the sleep guide to get better sleep.
This would be nice to know if I could actually get a decent insight. The first day I’m actually able to get an insight, it just says “you sleep 6h 7m per night, but only you know if this is enough based on how you feel.” I thought the insights would be more observational, giving me more information on why some nights my sleep cycles are completely deep and why other nights I go up and down. I’d try to dig deeper into the app to figure this out, but I’m stuck in a loading screen again.
Overall, it’s a nice alarm. I’ll use it for that. But I won’t be paying a subscription for something that just loads and keeps me from interacting with it.
Nifty app 5/5
So far very interesting as I am able to see how much or how little sleep I am getting each day. Even if I am snoring or not! 😂.
It will help me figure out how to get my sleep back on track and could possibly help prevent early onset of Alzheimer’s as sleep deprivation is a huge contributor to this
This is amazing! get it! 5/5
This changed my sleep schedule in one night I went to sleep late but woke up right on time and when I wanted to go to bed I listened to a story and I was out in minutes. I recommend the story about a woman going inside her apartment building late summer
Wake you up before your time set 5/5
I usually miss my alarm but since I use Sleep Cycle I always wake up like 4-5 minutes before my time set.
Bed app 5/5
By KStrong.fitness- Kym
Thanks for the fun sleep app I absolutely can’t sleep without it 😉
Premium? Since when? 3/5
I’ve never paid for premium and suddenly, last night, there were several features that I use regularly that are now blocked. When did this free app and all of its standard features become paid?
Otherwise I love the app. I think it’s fascinating to see my data and review my sleep patterns.
By Formerhappy user
Until recently the app worked very well. For the past 2-3 weeks it’s not reading my sleep correctly. The graph shows 1 thing & the numbers show another. Can you fix it? I updated this morning which is supposed to happen automatically.
This is a great app but it a little expensive. It is pretty accurate but some isn’t perfect. I would recommend it though
Not exactly what I wanted 2/5
I wanted to download this because it’s much more detailed and can do a lot more than the regular alarm app. I set the alarm for 6:30 a.m, and it ended up waking me up at 3:00 a.m. Everyone in the house heard and yet I got on trouble for it. I was desperate for an app that can do so much more than just an alarm clock. But now, I just stick with what I got and I don’t download any alarm clock apps.
Great app 5/5
This app has helped me regulate my sleep
Apple Watch App Freezing?! 3/5
By Callye b.
I love the app and the haptic alarm feature, but recently when I go to open the app on my watch right before bed, the screen says “Good Morning” and I can’t back out of that screen. It’s like the app is frozen. The only way to fix it is to either turn my watch off or uninstall and then reinstall the app. It’s a little annoying having to do that multiple times a week right before bed. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
4 stars 4/5
I really really like this app. But what is so frustrating is that in order to see why you’re sleeping certain ways you have to pay. I cannot afford to pay which is annoying because the app is really really helpful. That’s why I give it 4 stars but otherwise this app is amazing!
Overall pretty good 3/5
I just started using this app about a week ago and I love the stories for going to sleep. The one complaint I have is the accuracy for the sleep time. As it says it takes me over an hour to fall asleep which I know is far from true. I don’t know if it’s picking up the voice from the stories and thinking I’m using my phone but the minor problem is pretty annoying.
I’ve used this app for about 2 years now, but over the last 6 months, it has failed to wake me up numerous times. At first, I figured I must’ve forgotten to set it, but sometimes it even kept the record of the night, and said I woke up on time, despite my clearly waking up 3 hours after I set the alarm. I’ve started setting a regular Apple alarm on my phone on days where I can’t afford to sleep in, and that’s when I realized the gimmick of this app wasn’t worth days it didn’t wake me up. I do not recommend.
Astonishingly helpful! 5/5
I have been using this app for about 3 years. I had suspicions that I had a sleep disorder this helped me confirm it but also helped me manage it. I eventually got in sleep therapy (CPAP) but will continue to use it. Getting my morning heart rate is helpful and encouraged me to do more aerobic exercise to bring it down and the “soft” alarm that wakes when you are most alert is also a big help. Well worth the subscription rate for a year and a useful app even without it.
Love it! 5/5
The smart alarm is my #1 selection criteria because I am certain that I feel better when woken from a lighter sleep and Sleep Cycle gives me that. I missed that functionality from my old Jawbone fitness band. I loved having a haptic alarm wake me when I was in a light sleep prior to my alarm time. I always woke feeling energetic. When Sleep Cycle killed the Watch app a while back, I stuck with Sleep Cycle because it still did a decent job with smart alarm from my bed stand, except the alarm was audible so it woke up my wife. Now that Watch app is back, I get my haptic smart alarm and sleep tracking. There are competitive apps with more detailed sleep tracking but, for me, the Watch haptic smart alarm makes Sleep Cycle the only sleep tracker I need.
Also to note, I posted an average review this weekend because I thought the Watch tracking feature wasn’t working. The developers quickly responded and clarified. Apparently, I had either done something wrong or had last tried it when the Watch app first came back and tracking wasn’t syncing properly to my phone. But as of now, Sleep Cycle on iPhone and Apple Watch is exactly what I want, and it still works well if I forget to charge my Watch before bed. Thanks to them for monitoring and responding directly to reviewers.
One of the best apps 5/5
By Janet April
This has been so helpful in tracking and guiding sleep quality which has lead me to a better life! I love it and the inventor. Yay! Thankyou for helping me keep it all together. I’m very grateful and recommend to people who need to sleep and lose track of time. I’m sure this has helped with over health, brain nerve function, all body functions actually.
Wonderful App 5/5
I have been using sleep cycle on and off for a couple years and I just recently bought a subscription— I love it ! I have insomnia, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and a menstrual cycle, so the option to add my own daily factors and see how they correlate with my sleep over time is amazing. 11/10 recommend to anyone and everyone.
Free version is Good 3/5
The free version provides nearly all the functionality I was hoping to get. Do you sleep tracker with just lotion and noise does an adequate job of informing me about my sleep. I also wear a Fitbit, and that provides me much better information. I wish they interconnected.
The app has gotten buggy though. Once I turn it on, it tries to take over the screen, and it’s very hard to use. The screen will shut off very quickly before you can interact with it or close it or switch to a different app. It’s quite frustrating.
IDEA FOR THE APP 5/5
I’m only writing the one star so hopefully the people running this app sees it and read it. I love the app but it would be awesome if there was a setting to cycle through the alarm sounds so it switches every night. Every person in the world has experienced a deep feeling of anxiety if they hear their alarm during the middle of the day. If you can cycle through the alarms then you don’t get used to a particular one therefore makes it easier to get up each morning.
EDIT: ***Changed to 5 STARS***
Want to see more in depth data 4/5
The app is called Sleep Cycle, but the only data about my sleep cycle is a graph I can kind of read. Would be super helpful to break up the graphs into sections, or have some kind of lines underneath telling you what’s going on while you sleep: how long each cycle was, how many cycles you had, and insights (after a few days) into how changing your bedtime or wake time could fit your sleep ‘cycles’ more fully.
We have a puppy and aligning when ‘nature calls’ and when I’m at my best to wake up and fall right back asleep has been difficult. I think that the addition of these insights could help people schedule their bedtimes and wake times to be better suited for them.
Other than that, this app is great! Have been a faithful user since 2015, and am still loving it. Keep up the good work! And for everyone that doesn’t pay for premium: come on, it’s $2 a year...wayy worth it
This is the best way to start the day 5/5
By My Defense Never Rests
The best way to gently wake up which makes the day go better.
By no ono o
I love the sleep cycle app! Thanks
Made waking up enjoyable and easy. 5/5
The option for a soft wake-up where the audio gradually gets louder is a huge help for my stress levels. And I can track which of my habits are negatively or positively correlated with my sleep quality. Overall, this has improved my life because I get better sleep. Highly recommend.
I have used this app for some time now. I enjoy the slow wake up alarm. I don’t feel as tired. My only complaint. It catches my husbands snoring and makes me wonder if it is tracking his sleep instead of mines.
Invasion of Privacy “Partners” & Advertising 1/5
By Loathes Advertising
I was very interested in App & downloaded it. Then it tried to require an “account” sharing my health data with “Partners” & Advertisers. I immediately DELETED the app.
There is NO REASON to put my data on your servers & absolutely no justification for allowing parasite “partners” any information on me!!! I loath advertising & block that crap every way I can.
Apple Watch App is Unreliable 1/5
By Crazy McGrazy
The app on the phone was great, but the app on the watch is very unreliable. The alarm will go off, giving you the options of “Open” or “Stop”, but if you tap open, it will snooze, and then immediately present you with the “Open” or “Stop” options. Tapping Open again cancels the snooze and ends the alarm.
Good but could use 3/5
Great app, love it finally using the apple Watch,
Feels better/accurate. Would love for the app on the watch still to record the sleep night even if I end it early. I have the alarm set for 8:30 but if I got a call and forced to wake up early (like this morning woke up by a phone call at 8), I stop it alarm and it doesn't record any of the sleep
6.8.1 Ruined It 1/5
One can no longer set the exact time for the alarm. Only a range can be set - smallest window being ten minutes. Ridiculous! I don’t need Sleep Cycle choosing my wake up time. When the alarm sounds, I want to know it is the exact time that was set. The sleep analysis was a good function. But, this app is now unusable as an alarm clock. After years of using the premium version, I was forced to find something else.
Really awesome, but something changed. 5/5
I love this app so freaking much. As someone who has to wake up at unholy hours of the morning for work, this app is a lifesaver. Unfortunately, a few months ago, some change was suddenly made that made the alarm go off really quietly, no matter how loud I made the alarm in the settings. I was so desperate, I even deleted the app and redownloaded it , only to still get that problem. It was at a perfect volume before. And I can’t tell the developers about this because there’s no way to contact them in the app.
Decent app 4/5
Both the free and premium offer a decent variety of ways to help you fall asleep. Unfortunately I do not sleep the whole night through and the choice I make to fall asleep to has a spinning circle when I go to use it again on the same evening. If I want the same selection I have to choose something else and then choose my first choice. I also wish there was a way to mark my favorites. I have found a few things I like then I can’t find them again the next night. I also wish that it would indicate if it is free or premium as I would like to know if I’m getting value for my subscription. The app also doesn’t have a way to report problems or ask questions that are not answered in the FAQ.
IT WORKS IT WAKES YOU UP! 5/5
I used to be that person that had 10 alarms to wake up! Sometimes my alarms would start an hour before the time I needed to wake up so I would make sure I wake up. The first day that I downloaded this app I woke up right away!! I set it up so I could wake up between 8 or 8:30 and I woke up like at 8:15 I’m impressed!!!
I got the premium version. Honestly it does not make much of a difference but I do want to track my snorting so it is helping me with that.
Editing notes crashes every time 1/5
By Daniel Springer (iOS Dev)
Edit: app crashed two nights in a row, and alarm never rang. I’m deleting this thing from my phone.
Making it unusable
And all the issues I listed in my (deleted by you) review are still happening.
If you cannot fix things, I cannot pay. Deal?
I’m about to delete this now bloatware from my device. How can you charge a recurring fee for this?
Very Helpful feedback 5/5
Been using this app for years since its early stages. Althroughout the innovative developments, I’ve been depending on it for helpful mindfulness of my sleep/rest (even unconscious snoring), especially when I travel. Very easy to use.
Sound issues 4/5
I’ve loved this app and have used it for years, but lately it isn’t able to pick up my movement. Not sure why this is or if it is some kind of glitch.
Sleep Cycle has lulled me to sleep! 5/5
I have been using Sleep Cycle faithfully for over a year. My sleep habits, which once were pathetic, have been gradually improving. Now I am getting the best sleep I have had in many years!I I have particularly enjoyed the new features they’ve introduced, including feedback to help me get a better night’s sleep!
The best! I’ve been wanting to monitor my sleep pattern using phone app since I lost my Fitbit. I found this gem after going through many lousy ones. It is not only a well made but also free to use. It even records the sample snoring every hour. I feel much better to schedule my day knowing how I slept the night before.
Amazing App 5/5
Great app, free version is lovely, very helpful. I am going to purchase full features
If you have a hard time waking up, this will totally help!!! I love it!!
sleep cycle 5/5
i really love this app because it wakes you up slowly over the span of 30 minutes. it also includes a variety of noise machine sounds and tracks your sleep rems. really enjoy!
All access need get premium 😒
This helps me so much I recommend it
Sleep time 5/5
I have an interesting sleep pattern.. I get up 3 to 5 times a night, ostensibly to go to the bathroom, waking up tired! May have sleep apnea. Checking it out w/ doctor now.
DEVELOPERS, PLEASE EXPLAIN DISCREPANCY!!! 2/5
By bullsh*t meter
until you really look at it
is the assumption we’re all too stupid to notice?
or did the developers think when you don’t look at it, it goes away?
the alarms great except so gentle it sometimes won’t wake you up. suggest u set a 2nd alarm just in case.
when you do wake up don’t look at the graph. because if you do, the spell is broken
this am i counted 4 hours of actually being asleep out of the 9 it reported. i don’t get how this came about.
from its own graph it’s telling me i was only actually asleep 4 of those hours.
WHATS THE DEAL, TECH WIZARDS?!?! WHY DOES THE GRAPH SHOW ONE THING AND THEN LIE TO YOU ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE??????
It’s still useful in a minor way.
but don’t pay for the premium unless your self esteem is so broken you like anything that’s about you.
Needs improvement 3/5
I’ve tried this app and I decided not to pay the premium. The app sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. I try the accelerometer to analyze my sleep and I got nothing, no data, and I placed the phone next to my pillow. But the thing that I don’t like the most is that there is no way to use only the sleep aid without activate the alarm or the sleep analysis. Sometimes I just want a way to fall sleep with a song or a story, I couldn’t figure out to make it work. Also, I had problem if I want to wake up with my watch, no data transferred to my phone. So for those reasons, unfortunately, I don’t think is worth the money.
Have used for years! 5/5
I’ve used this app for about 5 years and it has just gotten better and better. Love analyzing all the sleep stats, love the smart alarm options, and I love the variety of sleep aids, all for free. One of my favorite daily apps!
If your wife goes to bad later, sleep cycle record it as you are awake and also it has same behavior about snoring.
Apple Watch app simply doesn’t work: it invokes to enable background but if you do it, it comes back keep asking same thing
