Repeatedly have to delete app and reinstall to actually have the ability to download issues. Then days later can’t download latest issue and need login even though already logged in. Across multiple devices. Customer service solution is to delete app and reinstall. Really? How does this persist? Just put this to bed or do it right please.
Impossible and Worthless 1/5

Cannot even find a way to sign on. Asked me for App Store signon, not Sports Illustrated. When I entered and opted for restore old purchases, I got nothing. This was after deleting and restoring the app. Longtime subscriber with no access to current or past articles without paying second time.
Worst app ever 1/5
Since the beginning of the year I have tried to get this to work on my iPad. Nothing works. I have contacted SI several times by email and by phone and get the same instructions - delete the app, reload and restore purchases. Nothing changes, locked out of every issue. I think they should reduce my subscription if I cannot access the app. 0 stars.
Restoring purchases problem 3/5
If I restore purchases, all non-downloaded issues are locked. I have to kill the app and restart to access not yet downloaded issues.
There really should be a way to filter issues or cache downloaded covers to make scrolling through back issues faster.

In order to see old issues you have to scroll thru the whole list instead of your issues being at the top. Worst part is the scrolling is laggy as hell and takes forever to load.

They freeze at some varying percentage. Have to force quit the app and then start over. Never works. Have uninstalled and reinstalled repeatedly.

I am long time subscriber and love the magazine, but the app is terrible...I have to repeatedly uninstall and then reinstall it to access the current issues...it happens every month it seems...
Slow, not user-friendly, just terrible 1/5
The old apps were adequate. You could see what issues you purchased, at least. With this new interface, you don’t have that. You have every single issue in front of you all locked until you buy, but you have no way of seeing what you’ve already bought. I’d like my own “rack” withy old previously purchased issues.
To top it off, it’s terribly slow. Once you read an issue, you’re brought back to the beginning instead of where you left off. Clearly, their developers were not thinking about the user experience in this design. It’s cumbersome, feature-less and annoying to use. 🙄
SI iPad app used to be one of the best. Don’t know what happened but now the worst. Keep getting kicked out of login session and now can’t get past login screen. All efforts to reach customer support about matter have proven futile. Would put zero star if there was an option. Fix your app!!!

Somewhere SI is thinking of more ways to fleece its customer base. I too lost all of the issues I purchased and saved.
Sad,y enough, Golf Magazine, and Time magazine have the same lame software. Maybe I will start using Zinio.
This app needs major help 2/5
I, like many others lost their SwimSuit Editions. That issue has been rectified, but the app still needs major help. I do not subscribe to SI, but am a fan of the SwimSuit issue and have purchased them digitally since they first become available. The previous app used to have a filter for the SwimSuit Editions that is now missing. I must be getting old as I find myself saying how I wish for the old days.

For the last six years I've purchased and downloaded the SI Swimsuit issues. After having to restart my iPad, I once again downloaded the SI app but my issues were no longer there and when I called, I was handed over to another representative, who then said I needed to contact apple. After waiting on the phone for 45 minutes, I was disconnected and no one bothered to call me back. Needless to say.....I'm disappointed
It's been almost 2 months and Sports Illustrated doesn't care about their customers. I received 2 responses that were no help at all and when I called customer service, she had no clue except to tell me that they changed the app. It seems pretty simple. Rectify the app so that I can just see my issues without having to scroll the years. It use to be that way.
Digital subscribers beware! 1/5
Long time subscriber have enjoyed having it available on my iPad for travel. New App is unusable and so painfully slow it is not worth it anymore. Unless they get a fix for this app I will let my longtime subscription expire. You would think a publisher would do everything possible to make digital experience awesome. Print is dying and now digital may quickly go away if they don't fix soon.
The new version of the app seems to offer much less control. In particular, missing is the ability to only show purchased issues.

Wow. I've been a subscriber of the print edition since 1969 (still have them all), and was a big fan of the iPad version for several years. No more. I can only echo the other negative reviews. I'm a software developer who can't understand how this upgrade would even pass acceptance testing. I assume the motivation is to eliminate usage of the app. Pretty good chance of that.

It used to be a flawless app and then the update a few months back completely ruined it. And their customer support is the worst— they never respond. The problem is, now, swiping pages takes numerous attempts because the page bobs up and down due to the new, poorly implimented, reader view. Every time you swipe, a block of texts pops up asking you to swipe down for reader view. This means that when you are trying to go to the next page, it rarely registers unless it’s a perfect right to left swipe. And this “read view” option blocks the top of ever page until it disappears after a few seconds.
They’ve had months to fix this with a patch but haven’t borrowed.

I agree with all of these 1 star reviews. I can’t find my past years’ swimsuit issues anywhere. I’ll never understand why software developers always make thing WORSE with every release. Get rid of them and bring back the old version.

All of the swimsuit issues are missing except for one. I used this app only for the swimsuit issues, and now most of my purchases are missing. Please fix this ASAP.

Since the update to the new format the app is garbage. The developer did this to other apps I have and they are all now terrible. They were once good just like SI. Not anymore.

SI used to be easy to use but not so any longer. Just updated it on Feb 3 and can't even open the app. Tried deleting and downloading again but still not working. Loved the digital version but not so hot about it now. As other reviews have said, the updates made it worse. Guess SI is trying to go out of business. Unless it changes, I don't plan to renew and will just let this subscription expire.

Si, most programmers improve things ... Not Yours! 1/5
Thought I would take another look hoping to return.... still crappy. Went from great to crap. Lost all video links, lost all previously purchased issues, lost all swimsuit issues... terrible to navigate. Does not allow you to keep in an easily accessible library the issues purchased or downloaded. So much potential... but instead of getting better, each year it gets worse. No longer a subscription holder. Takes up too much time and energy to be a subscriber or buy individual issues particularly when the functionality you purchased is lost when updated👎👎👎👎👎.

Seems like every time I sign on I have to reset my password. SI, if you want to compete in the digital marketplace you need to have a competitive product. Or at least a functional product.

This app is horrible. It takes forever to load. Even when you download the content it goes missing if you do not have an internet connection. What’s with that; it ridiculous that you can not do better.

I've read a lot of the reviews below about the updated app. I can only say I agree with all of them.
SI took a useful app and utterly destroyed it. Cannot access issues I paid for.
The thing I wonder is: Does anyone actually read these reviews? Because whoever approved this piece of garbage app ought to be fired.
Update to this. It’s still horrific. I have to log out and log back in to download an issue, and even after I do that there’s a button asking me if I want to buy an issue or subscribe.
The app loads slowly and is generally one of the worst pieces of software I have ever seen.

I too am reluctant to post bad reviews. I have purchased several SI issues via the previous version of the app that cannot be restored through the new app. I have contacted customer service via the app and have not received a response in over two weeks. So no access to purchases and radio silence from customer service -worthless. Don’t even think about downloading the app! Very sad.....

Used to be a good app. Recent updates have absolutely tanked it. It’s almost as if SI *wants* its digital offering to commit suicide. It’s THAT bad. Gone are individual purchased issues, even after “restoring purchases”. Can no longer filter for special issues. Issue list takes FOREVER to load, and ALWAYS has to restart from the latest issue rather than from where you left off in your library. It also doesn’t allow you to go back as far in your library. I’m not even sure the whole concept of a library even exists anymore, because that word has been scrubbed from the UI, which is a shell of what it used to be, feature-wise. And all that’s just on the OUTSIDE of the magazine.
INSIDE the content, it’s essentially just PDFs. Unlike the previous (2016) edition of the app, content loads horrendously slowly and is of POOR quality.
The whole experience is agonizing.
This app is a real POC. I’m cancelling my subscription.

This app is junk. Loading takes forever so it’s impossible to scroll down and view the couple of issues I’ve purchased. All I want to do is be able to look at what I’ve payed money for.

In short, the other poor reviews are deserved. Change for the sake of change, by (new?) developers who clearly don’t read magazines. Or, best I can tell, beta test.
How ironic is it that digital is killing print, yet botched digital is what really loses loyal print subscribers? Subscribers like me, who won’t be renewing.
Terrible - Don't buy anything this this app 1/5
The previous update of this app was biggest steps backwards since New Coke was introduced. Unlike Coke, SI does not seem to be listening to the overwhelming criticism of this update. Previous issues are missing with no plan to restore them. All of the interactive media is gone. You can't sort previous issues to find the ones downloaded. Every time an update comes out, you're back to square one. Save yourself the money.

This app is terrible. Every time you open it, it tells you to subscribe or buy issues, even though you are logged in. Some issues show up as locked, apparently at random. If you download issues and then go to airplane mode, the app says you don't have any downloaded issues. It takes FOREVER to scroll through back issues. When you do scroll to old issues, some are missing, and again others show a lock.

Waited some time to see if there might be some improvements, but this current version is a huge step backwards: past issues have to be re-downloaded, navigation is poor, and for some reason some past swimsuit issues are not available any longer even though they’ve been purchased previously.

Kudos to SI. Rarely do you see any company take a great app, and thru updates, turn it into pure garbage. This is the slowest app I've ever used. It takes forever just to open. Once in the app, it responds and moves slower than a glacier. God help you if you accidentally swipe the wrong way on a page. It takes a full minute to load some other part of the app. Good luck if you try sending SI an email from the app to complain. SI obviously is phasing out the weekly magazine. Total disregard of their readers. I'm a +35 year subscriber. So disappointing
Newsstand? Updated to Horrible 1/5
Wish that your app would show up in my newsstand. I also wish that it were easier to figure out how to bring up the control panel at the bottom. I tried double-tap, single-tap in center, two finger swipe up, etc. I eventually just tried tapping down there. Also, had lots of trouble restoring purchases. Had to delete app and reinstall.
Like other reviewers, I don’t usually take the time to write a review but this app is terrible. It’s slow on one of the latest iPads, I cannot easily find the issues that I do own, and I even feel like the quality of the pages are actually lower.

Having subscribed to SI for nearly 50 years, I expect an online magazine similar to the printed version, only getting to me quicker. This gets to me quicker, but there the similarities end. SI must think I’m brain dead with so much video & so little print. I guess great writers like Frank Deford, Rick Riley, & Dan Jenkins will never again be developed at SI. It’s sad seeing a once great magazine working its way into the dustbin of journalism.

What is the deal with magazine publishers and their thinking about their product digitally? You certainly have managed to significantly downgrade your product with this upgrade.
This is on a computer for crying out loud. You have rendered this app less useful than having all the print issues os SI stacked by my bed.
Fix it. Restore purchases. Allow searching or filtering etc

Trying to scroll through the issues is very, very painfully slow. Heaven forbid you accidentally click into a specific magazine while scrolling, because you have to start over again from the beginning. Loading time for the thumbnails are horrific.
As you go through an issue, the pictures are loaded and rendered in squares, which takes a long time. When it is finally done, the quality is not nearly as good as it used to be.
No search function for issue.
Complete waste of time - I was going to renew, but not a chance after this update.

Today is November 15. I have not been able to download and read the November 13 issue which was out last week. I rebooted my iPad, and rebooted the SI app. No luck; it still wants to offer me “locked up” portions of the issue. Of all magazine subscriptions I have not one has given me the problems that SI continues to do.

I travel a lot so downloaded a couple of editions to read on airplane. Green check appears and said downloaded. Get on airplane mode and go to downloaded issues and it says “no issues downloaded. Also can’t scroll to downloaded issues easily while on line. When reading an older issue and done to go “back.” It takes you to the current issue instead of the year and month you were looking so have the slow and painful process to get to older issues. Slow, unresponsive and cumbersome. Took a good app and made it awful. Will cancel subscription if not fixed.

The new version of the app makes it nearly impossible to access past issues. It only loads images of the few recent issues and it takes a long time to load any additional prior issues.
Ruined, useless app 1/5
SI took a functional, readable app version of its magazine and turned it into a complete and frustrating waste of time. I download issues and then get a message that it can't be read because I'm offline. I try to pinch and zoom so the type is more readable and the pages shake and snap back to previous pages. This app is a terrible reflection on the magazine and the app developers need to fix this ASAP.
