App still in development. 1/5
This MacOs version unfortunately is still not in a usable state of development. I use the iOS version in my classes teaching kids K-3 and it is awesome!!! But this MacOS version (free and pro) is buggy, not very intuitive and most of all lacking very basic and required features. It is not even possible to record an audio track!!! Acording to their support, that feature will be added in an update by the end of 2019. Until then the MacOS verison of Stop Motion Studio is pretty much useless!!! They shouldn't charge 9.99 for what they call a "pro" version that doesn't even record audio and advertise it as "the most powerful animation studio ever designed for a mac."! The free version does not let you export/share your movies, meaning not as a .mov file or anything else recognizable by a video player. You can only save as a project to continue working on it later.
Anyway, I hope they can straighten out the bugs and develop it to the same great standard as the iOS version! The 9.99 would be well worth it!
Works ok but all images are imported into app which strips meta data. 2/5
You have to be careful. If you specify a folder for images it automatically imports all images into app and removes them from the folder they were in. The only way to get them out is to export them which strips all meta data. I specified an image folder not knowing and it imported about 200 images I didn't want and now I lost all the meta data on those images.
Whats the difference? 1/5
By Ryder M.
I bought this trying to find an erase/masking function, like they have on the IOS version, because I could not find that function on the free version, (Stop Motion Studios Mac) to my suprise I couldn't find that function that they have on the IOS, AND there didnt seem to be a single difference between this version ($10) and the free version, to me it seems to be the EXACT same thing but for $10 more.
If i'm wrong and there is a difference please tell me, but until then I want my money back.
Good but DSLR not working 3/5
The app is designed to be great but I bought it for one thing, shooting with DSLR which didn’t work with canon 80D
it connects, but when I take the picture it just keeps loading and it doesn’t import the picture, even though the picture is saved in the camera
Until they fix it, I don’t recommend buying the app if you shoot with DSLR
You get what you pay for. 1/5

This is a good entry level frame grabbing software. It's absolute garbage in my opinion. The live chroma key is terrible, it's rotoscoping is terrible. It didn't sync well with my canon DSLR. Lasty it crashed on me at the worst possible times.
So not worth it. IOS version is much better. 1/5
Even after figuring out how to use the IOS version (and it isn’t all that user friendly), the MAC version that costs twice as much, is still confusing! The user guide only gives you an idea of how to do things. I’m not even convinced I can edit on it. That was a waste of money...
Solid option to introduce stop motion to kids 4/5
I was looking for a stop motion program that was
2) Had onion skinning
3) Supported an old Canon EOS rebel XS
4) Reasonably priced
5) Usable by a 7 and 8 year old
I tried a bunch of macOS applications, but only dragon frame met my needs, but I couldn’t justify the price and didn’t need all the features.
Parts of the program are not straight forward out of the box, but a 5 minute read of the support/help page helps quite a bit.
We used it mainly for capturing the images and for this it worked wonderfully, and the high resolution DSLR images allowed for nice 4K video.
The 7 and 8 year old were able to run the rig and make a movie, and add audio (right click on a frame to get audio options), but I found it easier to export the video without audio and add audio in a different video editing program.
All in all a solid, kif friendly program to start recording in stopmotion.
Dont Waste Your Money 1/5
By Krish krosh
This program is not user friendly at all, has no intuitive functions and is glitchy. Why dont they make programs that work ? oh yeah, easy money grab. Plus, once you purchase it it doesnt allow refunds, so instead of wasting your money on this usless app go out and buy a sandwhich or something that actually use in your life.
Too Many Gimmicks 4/5
By Drew Daly
It works very well I just have a few gripes with it. I wish there was a way to hide windows because many of them are useless to me like Chroma Key, Theme, Outline, etc. All of these are unimportant for someone doing these things in other software. It’s annnoying how I have to scroll through all these things I don’t use to get to things I do use like frame rate. Again, I don’t want these features to be removed I would just like a way to hide them.
No voice recorder? 3/5
By Wild wolf 929
I can not find a the voice recorder or a place to edit audio I went to the support page and it said to click on the thumb nail on a frame with audio to cut it up but nothing happend when I clicked on the frame. this would be aa great app if it was just a little bit more user frendily
It’s good 4/5
This app is great! I love it. It takes some time to learn but its great. I wish that they could add more cameras to be able to be used with it.
Hard to use green screen 4/5

I enjoy this app i have used the ipad versoin and liked it alot, but, this versoin takes a lot of time to figure out. But after you get the hang of it, you could get really good stop mo’s.
Solid Stop Motion App 4/5
By TBaggens Productions
I use this app for my YouTube channel (TBaggens Productions). The app does all the basic things right (stringing together clips, audio, and other basic functions). It’s complete enough to produce som respectable content. The following upgrades would be wonderful: the ability to insert text and draw on clips, the ability to select multiple frames at once, the ability to have multiple audio clips start on the same frame, easier editing of audio such as having sliders on the audio clips to easily shorten them… etc. If some of these changes were implemented in the app I would give it five stars. Overall it is a very good app and just about the only available stop motion program for mac at an affordable price.
Why Greyed Out Options? 4/5
Want to import audio into your animation? Too bad, that option is greyed out, no explanation.
Figured out that you have to have a frame selected in order to import audio, not super intuitive but at least it does work. Changing my star rating from 1 to 4.
Mixes frames & horrible altogether 2/5
Everytime i launch a project it mixes some of the frames around and places them at the complete opposite side of the video. Also it has barely half the fetures that the $5 mobile version has to offer. this would be such a great application if it had all the fetures the cheaper moblie alternate has and if it wouldn’t mix the frames around
waste of money 1/5
By Robo 555
The quickest rate you can even play is 1 second per photo making this not a worthwhile stop motion app. If you even try to adjust it to be shorter it defaults to 5 seconds per frame. This was a complete waste of money, do not purchase. I would like my money refunded.
I purchased this by accident 4/5
Hi, I really like your app but I purchased it by accident. Can you delete it from my account and refund me?
Thanks so much!!
AWESOME but needs some bug fixes 5/5
I have been using this app for two weeks now and have had lots of fun, but it has compleatly quit on me twice I have lost my animations. Could you fix that Please? also it wold be nice if it had an eraser like the ipad and iphone app have. Thanks!
Iphone version is way better. When importing previosuly recorded stop motion to the studio motion app, it imports in backwards, so the ending is the beginning. cant figure out if its the settings or the app itself. Iphone versionn is definitely better. Wasted $10 on this thinkng it would help my son and i as we play around with stop motion animation.

I have really enjoyed the iPhone version of this app, so I bought this version hastily, presuming it would have similar features. There is no paint/draw function that I can find, most of the options are grayed out all of the time (i.e. adding audio!), and all of the buttons at the lower right bottom only come up as Player Rewind, but do nothing when they are pressed. Is this supposed to be a working app?? Where is the option for a grid? Where is the manual? Support videos? Anything?? Again, the iPhone version is great (though I wish you could get the paint/draw tools to move out of the way of the image, so you could have access to the whole image without those imposing gray borders), but this version for Mac is terrible in comparison. Please update. $10 is too much for something that has half of what the lesser priced iPhone version has.
Needs a little more internal testing 3/5
In short, I wish it was more like the iPad version but I am happy it does not crash as much as the iPad version.
All of the audio snippets from the iPad are missing in the desktop version. In fact I am not sure how to add audio at all in the desktop version. The add audio button is always inactive. On the other side, the desktop version does not freeze like the iPad version is prone to do. All of the icon buttons along the bottom of the application have the same tooltip help of PLAYER_REWIND. Connected Logitech HD web cam is occasionally detected. Other stop motion software always detect it. Image preview is grainy from a webcam but the same webcam preview in other stop motion software is much cleaner. No captured image overlay menu like in the iPad. Have not tried with the remote camera option yet. That is really a problem in the iPad version where the remote camera is only accessible half the time. Also, the application feedback and tell a freind menu item launches another program called iTerm in a text console. A forums would be nice too instead of a one way support email.
