Tons you have to buy, expensive 1/5
There’s only the basics like the alphabet and numbers that are free, and then you have to buy a bunch of bundles that are ten dollars each.
Not very useful, it “crashes” always. 1/5
It’s impossible to use because when it opens or regains the entire screen from background, it displays the splash/logo, then the photo/word list momentarily, and immediately collapses back to the background. When either restarted or promoted from background, same result. Useless on a brand new iPad Mini 4 with latest iOS 11.4.1.
Emergency Signs Pack 3/5
Regarding the most recent update, you added an Emergency Signs pack. Why do you have to purchase it?? I would think it should be free, since if you can’t speak you should be able to know how to tell someone if another person is in danger. I mean, come on.
Updated version shuts itself down 1/5
Apparently this app updated 3 days ago. When I tried to open the app today, it opens for a few seconds and then shuts down.
Love it 5/5
One of my favorite apps I absolutely love it
This app is terrible! 1/5
Completely wrong signs, I don’t know what this is but it is not ASL.
Unable to open 1/5
By St Pete guy
I can’t open the app, it won’t stay open. I click on it and then automatically closes. Can this be fixed please, I paid for the app to learn but if I can’t open it then what’s the point. Thank you!
**update 5/8/19** I’m still not able to open the app, again when I open it, it automatically closes. It’s getting to be very annoying and after a paid for it, I would think it should be fixed. Please let me know if anything has been done. Thank you!
Many of the basic signs are super inaccurate. Clearly made by people who not only don’t know American Sign Language but also have no knowledge of dead culture.
It’s ok 3/5
Not a good free app for looking up signs. Even when you buy it, it seems to be missing some important
Signs and is not very updated
$10 is relative. 5/5
By murrat bikes
How can you people complain about $10 for knowledge. I always wanted to learn ASL but never made it a priority. When I found out I had to have a medical procedure that laid me up for a week, I said what a great opportunity. I went to five used book stores and bought all I could on ASL. Then a new book store and bought one more. I was looking forward to my week of learning. I am a mechanic and work on Deaf people’s car from time to time. I can’t wait to surprise them. My weekly tool bill for the personal tools I buy is $130. That’s every WEEK. $10 is relatively cheap for me. I got my monies worth from the free stuff before I bought the extra.
Not what I was looking for 2/5
I am taking an ASL class in college. Most of the signs in this app are not correct, for example hot and cold are totally different, and “not feeling well is totally wrong” I feel like if they are trying to teach people to how communicate with the deaf then they should do it right, with the right signs.
Not ASL 1/5
These are all basic gestures everyone uses. Waste of time, money, and space on your phone.
I love this app, but... 5/5
I really wish you guys supported landscape mode so I can use both hands while my iPhone is propped using a pop socket. It would make the other signs that need to hands a lot more easier to use.
Not ASL 1/5
The app is fine for showing vocabulary. The app is teaching. Sign Exact English (SEE) not ASL. This app is not good if you’re looking for conversation skills in ASL, only vocabulary. Considering conversation is clearly one of the goals of the app, they are failing in their purpose.
No religion 2/5
Really? All of the signs in this app so far I can get for free online. No religion/religious signs but you don't forget the LGBT community? That community is less practiced than religion worldwide. An "equality" minded developer that only focuses on equality where it matters to them seems more like opportunists than someone concerned with equality much less respect.
I didn’t buy it but it took my money 1/5
I went to get a google home app and I was not on this app page and it said that I bought it when I clearly didn’t buy it and I don’t know how to get my money back
Needs more 3/5
So far I love this app. Only been playing with it for a couple hours now. Couple thing I would like to see with this app are the different shapes (circle, square, etc...) Also more basic commands like “leave it, put it back, put it away, or take it” maybe I’m using to mature of an app but other apps I’ve looked into aren’t enough...
Can’t download 4/5
The app isn’t letting me redownload the basics and numbers anymore. It just spends. Please fix this.
I don't know 4/5
By Harry Potter 07 13
This is a good app but it does not have a lot of signs it takes ten minutes to master all of them😕
ASL app 1/5
I loved it but now, it crashes whenever I try to open it.
Current and Verified ASL 5/5
By C. E. Gillis
The ASL app is amazing!!! This app was created by Deaf people who are *fluent* in ASL. When you use this app, you are guaranteed to be learning ASL that is current, correct, and used by Deaf people in real conversations. So many books are woefully outdated. So many hearing YouTube “stars” don’t actually know ASL fluently and their language is full of errors. Stop learning from unverified resources! Learn the real language today using this app!
Only 3 stars because I purchased... 3/5
I purchased this app for something like $8.99 a year or so ago and after forgetting about it for awhile, I decided to make more of an effort to use it. Now I’m seeing almost all the content has “but” buttons and there is a google banner at the bottom. What gives? I’ll upgrade my review if I get a reasonable answer. The only content I have access to is numbers, ABC, one set of very basic basics, and some hand exercises. Not worth nearly $10 bucks.
App crashes upon launch 1/5
I’ll get right to the point . I love the app but can’t get into it. Makes me sad. Please fix. Thank you.
Accidentally purchased 4/5
Although I enjoy the basic app, I accidentally purchased. Is there a way to receive a refund?
Just read🙊 4/5
So I got this app to learn more asl and it gave me a few lessons for free but only like 3 real lessons! If I wanted to get the other lessons I would have to spend $10 on it. This is very helpful but I would rather just the app being $10 so I would know about it. I will go now, I’m just a triggered 13 year old💁♀️
Great, except 4/5
I’m really enjoying the app, but when the ‘W’ questions (who/what/where/when/why) are reviewed why aren’t they signed in ASL rather than PSE? I get that it’s generally an easier way of learning, but why not teach the proper sentence structure for ASL?
Really good app 5/5
So I just got this app because my friend is deaf and it really helps and I have nothing bad to say it’s an awesome app and if your reading this to decide to get it or not you should it’s a great app and helps a lot
Horrible and not worth it 1/5
Might as well look the basic signs up on google. Don’t waste your time if you want to learn asl. The signs are below basic and they do not expand at all of different accents in asl. Total thumbs down.
I have always wanted to learn ASL and now I can actually learn and not be stopped.....awesome app just overall amazing
Great for beginners buts needs extra features 4/5
By Rufus Piedmont
It’s a great app for anyone is trying to learn a little sign language for fun but it needs more. Some way of testing the signs you’ve been practicing would be very helpful for retention. There is definitely room for more categories of signs as well. If it’s feasible maybe even taking the total signs in all categories and making a search feature that’s alphabetically organized. It would help a lot of with looking up a sign you’re trying to find.
It said it was free 1/5
By ummmm ughhh
I got this app to learn for free. I’m not old enough to pay for this myself. This app has a few free learning options but all of the good words you have to pay for. Not worth to pay that much when I can go online and find what the sign is.
Is there any sound for this app?
The some of the signs weren’t right! 1/5
I am taking ASL in high school right now. I am in ASL 2 and most of the signs on this app we’re incorrect. And they were using SEE not ASL. Which means they use every English word instead of using ASL sentence structures. If you are going to advertise you app as an ASL app then fact check your signs and use ASL sentence structure!
pay for everything 3/5
the only reason why i’m giving three stars is because you have to pay for everything. the only things to learn for free are things like the abc’s and numbers
Like it a lot 3/5
I really do like the app. I have been wanting to learn sign language for our church. I upgraded and purchased all the packs but I was disappointed that there aren’t any signs for words you might hear in church or during praise and worship songs or hymns. I was specifically looking for signs for Christmas Carols. I’ll still use the app because I like the way the signs are taught but it would be nice if you included signs for Biblical text as well as worship songs. Thanks for considering adding this information.
Basic commands most people already use. 1/5
Basic commands most people already use.
This app is great! 4/5
By :D me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep in mind i have not bought the full app for all the bundles but as soon as i get the money to I am defiantly going to purchase this full ASL app because even the free version is amazingly helpful! The one thing i wish it did was turn horizontally so i can look at it all on my IPad Pro in all ways. But other then that this is still an amazing app!
Customizable Favorites 4/5
By Gary Bogle
First and foremost, THANK YOU! This app is amazing. And I’m looking forward to more content. Hopefully you can include conversations between speakers.
In regards to favorite list. App users should be able to sort there videos once favorited. We should also be able to create different folders so we don’t have a long list of signs. For example, it would be nice to have folder for verbs, and another folder for prepositions. This way app users can organize signs in the way that makes best sense to them.
Thank you again 🙏🏿. Truly helpful app,
Pretty good but... 4/5
This app is pretty good but I don’t know why it makes you pay $10 to learn it all I think it should be free. But I’m teaching myself asl and I think it’s pretty helpful
This helped me a lot! 5/5
After watching switched at birth on Netflix, I have wanted to learn sign language so I found this ASL app and started looking trough the tutorials and I know a lot of sign language now like how to say sorry, and other things I can even fingerspell some!
App not openening 1/5
I bought this app over a year ago. It worked fine for several months, the last few times I tried to use it, it opened then immediately closed. I messaged the IT team about this issue and never had a response from them. If this app is no longer going to work, I would like my money back.
This app should be called the signed American English app, not ASL 2/5
The grammar forms aren’t correct, ASL is its own language with a culture and it needs to be respected.. “what’s your name” in asl has a different grammar, “your name what”, so the name of the app should be changed or the grammar should be correct. Respect Deaf culture. Plus signs vary by region of the country or dialect and that would be a nice thing to account for in this app.
By i just wanna write
I really want to learn ASL and I thought this app would be good for it, but you have to pay to learn anything. It’s not even worth it.
No religion category but helpful when they rarely do have the sign you’re looking for. 5/5
By Sawyer Lay
I can’t really pull myself to understand why this app doesn’t take its time to have at least a religious category. Signs like “Jesus” and “God” are essential for a $10 in app purchase. The app tools it’s time to make an LGBTQ category because the ASL app wants to teach us that equality is only necessary when convenient to them. It is not that hard to expand the dictionary that you’re app has by adding signs like God, Buddha, Islam, Koran, Bible, gospel, and covenant. Things like that will be worth you’re wile. Overall this is a helpful app but not helpful when you might as well look up most things on google. I would like to have my learning in one place. Thank You the ASL app for taking my opinion into consideration!
By Sarah "T"
I would rate it 10 stars. After watching an episode of my of my favorite shows, I wanted to learn ASL. And I’m signing sentences now with the help of The ASL App! I’m more than pleased and would love to keep learning and signing!
Amazing app 5/5
I downloaded this app thinking it probably was not going to work but boy was I wrong!! I have learned my abs asl in 3 weeks and I am so happy! My family member is an asl interpreter and I am trying to be able to talk to her deaf friends and now I can!! Thank you for making this amazing app I love it!
Good app but 4/5
It’s a good app and has helped me learn but the eff you thing you said you took out is still in the universal gesture part and I agree that it is inappropriate and unnecessary, other than that it is a good app.
Very basic 3/5
Good app to download if you know absolutely NOTHING about ASL, not that it’s bad or anything. This app provides only the alphabet & some universal hand gestures, but goes nothing deeper than that. It is disappointing.
Good app, but..... 3/5
This is a good app and very helpful. However I would only give three stars because I’m troubled that, for having so much one needs to learn in order to communicate, we must pay for various separate word packets. This is an app that should have nothing to buy and more to learn.
