Worth the $ 5/5
Fantastic story on an array of topics. Great journalism. The app is clean and easy to use
Has everything you need for sports and more! 5/5
This is a great website with dedicated staff who only focus on the large umbrella of sports and sports-related areas. No matter what you’re into, you’ll find well-written stories from individuals who know their subjects (much of the staff has been acquired from local beat outlets) and are able to report from a better informed and deeper perspective. Over the past few months, I have found myself depending on this site over other well established sites to get in-depth, interesting, and informative articles on my favorite sport and players. 5 star content 5/5
By A. Binkley
I should have subscribed months ago.
Renews at $59.99/yr, not $5/wk as it appears. 1/5
BEWARE! The trail makes it appear the subscription will automatically renew at $5/wk but really it renews at $59.99 immediately. Fella deceptive as I was going to let it renew for a few weeks of reading but now have a $59.99 subscription. Just another mother day deceptive marketing practice.
Great writers 5/5
On the web it seems like all sport site articles are re-treads from previous years. The Athletic’s articles are original and very well written. I feel it’s actually undervalued and nor as well known as it should be.
Just started a subscription, here at THEATHLETIC, last week. Already enjoying in depth personal @ analytical articles by Bruce Feldman. Looking forward to many more, as the seasons roll into the late summer early fall collage of baseball, football, volleyball, et.al. Love the app.
Keeps directing me to subscribe 1/5
By Kurt from nj
Having hard time navigating the site. Click on a story and it send me to the subsribecpqte. Not sure why the top menu feed is subscribe when I go to the side panel when it identifies me as having the ability to log out. Wouldn’t that mean I am subscriber already logged in... poor format. Not user friendly that appears more driven to generate revenue than provide sports info to its customers.
Fumagalli a Starter 5/5
Anyone who has been a fan of Troy Fumagalli will love this beautiful story about this young man who always gives 110 percent and has always been under estimated. Show them what you got, Troy!
Rob Spencer 5/5
Brilliant article. Really painted a great picture of what happened last night. As a life long Angels fan I can say that nothing will ever top what we witnessed last night. Thanks for the great telling of a magical story!
Auto refresh for the scores 4/5
I wish the team scores would refresh automatically every sec rather than me refreshing it in the app
Just the News 5/5
Loved the article about the Knicks. Refreshing to read a article about my team and players, without bias.
Excellent articles 5/5
I enjoy the in-depth articles about Chicago, Notre Dame and national sports. Great job always!
Back to Mandel 5/5
By bigBama on Cali
Nice to have Mandel back. I mocked him with his paid subscription service. No way I would pay. Or be content in this. Well I got tired waiting for him coming back to free media. But glad now I pulled out the visa. Tell me what I missed
Good App 5/5
It’s a really awesome app
Fantastic article Mr. Weaver and another reason why I love The Athletic. Hunter is a great example of balancing a modern world built around technology but also valuing slowing down and living in the now. I also love grinding coffee beans, playing board games with my boys and reading. Wishing Hunter the best as a Ranger and “Together We Are Giant!”
Hunter Pence 5/5
My favorite SF athlete...by far. You really captured this unique, one of a kind individual. I’m a recent convert to the Athletic, great job! Great sports related writing Is not dead, in spite of ESPN, Fox and others efforts to bury it.
If you love sports, you’ll love the Athletic 5/5
Yes yes, it does cost. But they constantly have sales in order to make it affordable. But it’s well worth it. The articles are amazing, they are very well thought out and very in-depth. They’re profiles on teams, coaches, and players are elite. It’s well worth your money!
Comments functionality request 4/5
An ability to mute all non Athletic staff replies in the comments would offer a much cleaner way to view fan opinions. Seeing a few users send dozens of notes hurts the experience
NEED DARK MODE 1/5
Dark mode would make this 5/5!!!!
Not impressed 1/5
Cumbersome to navigate
Good app. Would love car play support for podcasts 4/5
Good app. Would love to see the podcast part get carplay support for easy listening in the car!
I paid and can’t access
Worth it! 5/5
I know people are hesitant to spend money on sports news when there are many free sources.
However, The Athletic is excellent. I still take 3 daily newspapers but the depth of Athletic is unparalleled.
After all if sports news wasn’t the most important, in newspapers for years it would not have been protected from weather by the boring news in the front sections!
Fabulous App 5/5
By Yury B
Wonderful writing with insights not found anywhere else. The local and national coverage is top notch. I highly recommend you give this app a try.
The right writers and the right medium 5/5
I follow Midwest sports intensely. Some of the best local writers were hard to follow due to the number of paywalls I would have to cross. Somehow, though, The Athletic has wooed enough good local journalists to their site. I consider this one of the best group of writers that could be brought together in one place. I am happy to pay for this level of journalism, depth-analysis, and personal stories about players and coaches. And it exists behind a single paywall, for an enormously low cost.
I follow the NHL, NFL, and MLB and am thrilled by the coverage. And to have it available on my phone is pretty doggone great, too!
Landscape mode? 5/5
Love the app but I wish there was a option to read in landscape mode.
Great sports journalism 5/5
By Former Ashlander
The athletic is to sports writing what the journal or Atlantic are to politics. Thorough, thought provoking and extremely well written. It’s not espn hot takes, it’s massive coverage and phenomenal insiders covering more than the beat. It’s not just stats, it’s reflective.
Best sports writing available! 5/5
5 out of 5
Love the coverage and ... 4/5
I hope that as you grow, you turn your attention more to international soccer, particularly national teams. Maybe the big boys at first, then branch out? Would love love love a dedicated feed for Dutch soccer.
Thanks for your great work,
Excellent articles by quality writers 5/5
I truly enjoy the true journalism provided by The Athletic! Thank you for being a place to read quality stories!
Just let me read 1/5
Don’t make me download an app to read a Facebook article
Sophisticated Commentary 5/5
The Athletic consistently has sophisticated in depth commentary.
I think it is the best sports reporting available
Worth every penny 5/5
Quality sports journalism that covers just about every league and team playing professional and major amateur sports.
Kind of annoying 1/5
Saw an add for this app on Instagram and began reading a story. Only downloaded the app so I could finish the story... however.... once I did download the app I couldn’t find the story anywhere! I searched for it by title and couldn’t find it. Then by author and the author didn’t even exist! Uninstalling
Subscribe today! You won’t regret it! 5/5
I’ve never been a fan of paying for content that you might be able to get on the Internets for free but The Athletic has definitely been worth it! Reading articles without clickbaity titles, spammy ads, and crappy writing, has been a phenomenally better experience. Huge fan of the writers and the app experience. Not sure about podcasts but I can accept it for now. Videos are a nice touch.
Keep up the good work The Athletic team!
App needs some work 1/5
By Mike Ab.
The writing is incredible.
This review is for the app.
But functionally it is not super intuitive.
Would prefer more advanced search and follow options. (Only by alphabetical first name??)
The podcast section is a main reason for 1 Star. Really hard to follow and search.
Horrible Scam 1/5
Won’t let me cancel free trial.
If you in any way enjoy true sports journalism there is no better platform then the Athletic
Great reports 5/5
By Rod Ham
Great reporters covering my favorite teams here in North Carolina. Highly recommended. Very thorough about hockey and the Carolina Hurricanes, which is my team. Enjoy this outlet very much.
By Jacob **44
I’ve been a Ranger fan since the “gag” line played together, lots of different teams, lots of players, mostly good players, some great players and some really great, great players past their prime. In New York we have been adding pieces for the last 50 years. It finally seems that we have a PLAN now, how refreshing!
We were always told that you can’t rebuild in NY because the fans won’t allow it, it’s always, we have to win now and if we don’t the fans would abandon MSG. Gordon started the process and Davidson will finish it. Thank God!
BOYNTON BEACH FL
Curry -KD relationship 5/5
By it is my name
Very insightful article and a tribute to both players. Giants in basketball ability and both team players.
Athletic Review 5/5
Their sources and detail on the pieces I’ve read are incredible. I can give no higher praise.
Worth it 5/5
By #idgt yea
This app is definitely worth getting and paying the annual fee. I’m a huge Titans and Preds fan so it’s a relief to get insider info even during the off-season period.
Well worth price 5/5
By The Real Captain Lou
I really enjoy The Athletic!! Articles very well written and informative! Well worth subscription price!
Makes ESPN irrelevant... 5/5
Do yourself a favor, spend the money and buy a subscription, you’ll never pay attention to ESPN again
Worst SPORTS APP EVER 1/5
By the Riffer420
Nothing makes sense
Articles all ways pushing BUY BUY!!!!
Same articles that you can get from other Sports APPS. SO WHY BUY IF ALL IS
I GIVE IT A MINUS 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good not great 3/5
I enjoy reading each morning. I couple of issues take it down from 5 stars.
- not enough outstanding articles. Too many seem to be “phoned in”. Not much better than free sites
- doesn’t cover men’s or women’s tennis
