Nice and easy to use 5/5
Very useful tools for unzip
Easy and friendly 5/5
It works perfectly.
Free and Fun 5/5
I am Iranian and I can't purchase from App store but I can download this useful application for free :D
Very slow 2/5
It's super slow to unarchive anything no matter what size it is.
No way to see what's in an archive! 1/5
All it does is unzip/unrar everything, there's no way to browser or see what's in an archive. I have many archives that are gigabytes in size and when I only need to retrieve one or two files I don't want to decompress the whole thing EVERY time!
If I'm wrong, let me know and I will change my rating to a five star... otherwise this app is basically useless for me.
Needed to unarchive some files 5/5
I did not know what app to use for unarchiving. I Googled and The Unarchiver came up the most. Great reviews and a high rating told me to give it a shot. Well, it worked and I am now a happy camper.
The best and simple 5/5
Unarchives "Libraries" (*.LBR) which date from CP/M and eventually found their way into MS-DOS as well. Glad I'm able to work with the old stuff using this program rather than having to jump through hoops!

It unarchives the file from zip to cpgz over...and over...and over... 1/5
And will not extract the files from the zip file. I've tried double-clicking, right-clicking and selecting "open with" - nothing works.
Actualización 4.1.0 1/5
Desde la última actualización me ha dejado de funcionar ya no descomprime los archivos correctamente :(
It’s not working? 2/5
I can use it on most files but it doesn’t work on any of my zip files. I believe all zip files look/are the same, but just in case; I mean the ones that look like little boxes that are tapped up (The ones that can be seen being used in the photo previews)
Simply and working perfectly 5/5
Well, I almost tried many rar apps. This wins them all through its simplicity. It does the job perfectly. i just wish there is an option to remove ads
Sneaky... ad placement 1/5
Now ads are attached to the window when using this application. Definately stopping use of this application and suggest others do the same. Don't know whatelse the developer added without telling anyone. NOT GOOD!
Sudently... ads. 3/5
Forced update, which now has ads. Granted they are for the developers other products, but I would gladly pay to not see them. No option I can find to turn them off. So, while still a good app, it is now anoying to use.
No funciona en archivos .bin 1/5
Lo instalé con el proposito de abrir un archivo .bin y no lo pude hacer.
This app includes unwanted advertisements 1/5
Conveniently after selling this software to some other company there are now pop up advertisements on top of the progress windows. This is a huge detriment to the quality of the software as I no longer feel it is a part of my OS and now feels like a piece of garbageware attached to my computer. I am now seeking an alternative and would advise others to do so and to steer away from this app.
Now it's back to being the best 5/5
I was getting errors opening 7zip files in the last version. Nearly tossed this app out completely, but the latest version fixed it!
Poor error handling 4/5
Been using this for years. The app works fine most of the time, but when something is wrong with the archive, the app doesn’t give anything resembling useful information about the error. It just basically tells you something’s wrong. What’s wrong? No details whatsoever other than it can’t extract. When that happens, I have to turn to the unfortunately abandoned UnRarX, which has a test function which tells me what’s wrong with the archive, such as a corrupted part.
Doesn’t seem to work 1/5
I downloaded this for the sole purpose of opening a .exe file and it says that it is unable to extract it.
I liked a lot, do what I need.
Handles the large zip files 5/5
By VFX Karl
I was trying to unzip a 10GB archive from WeTransfer and got the error 27, file too large…this app did the job! Apparently the unarchiver app that came with the Mac OS has a file size limit.
Extremely good and great support ! 5/5
By AC @ KFUL
Check this out. Just got help with a technical issue on how to unzip the compressed file current of PWs so they could be locked away in paper form. Response time was under 3 minutes. !!!
Try to beat that one. I’m really grateful for that kind of follow up and support !

The only unarchiver that doesn’t mess up Japanese text 5/5
By Peter in Japan
Since it allows you to set proper encoding for files, it can uncompress Japanese filenames and their contents, without messing everything up into garbage, like every other program I can find for the Mac. Kudos to the developers! I recommend it to everyone as your default.
It does not work 1/5
By Esteban AM
It does not work, I have tried like 20 times
It’s the one tool you set and forget 5/5
After you set it as your default unarchiver there is nothing left to do. It’s one of those programs you never have to think second about having. Even if you only use .zip files it’s still better than the one that comes built into OS X.
Can not extract Mac OS Mojave 2/5
I split zip the "Install macOS Mojave” trought terminal, I tried to decompress it with "The Unarchiver". It told me that file is corroupt. I combined the zips with terminal then unzip it with terminal, file was perfectally fine. 2 stars are just, this app worked for me in the past.
Great . . but 3/5
Great product. However, if choosing multiple files that begin with the same string, it treats them like there all part of the same file. For example, I have a dir of beach videos named like this.
Beach vid #1
Beach vid #2
and so forth.
Each of them is seperate from the other, but this program treats them like there all part of the same file. In order to fix this, I have to go through and rename each of these files a unique name in order to unzip/unrar them. Needs fixing.
Lack of functionality 2/5
It only does extraction.
you can’t see the archive contents without extraction.
I deleted it 1/5
I couldn’t get pass the point where it insisted that I make this the default extractor app for my mac. So I deleted it.
Was great, but still okay. 1/5
First of all, let me say that The Unarchiver itself is stil a great utility app that does its job. That said, it’s no longer seamless. The new owner/publisher, Setapp, has turned The Unarchiver into what I call “Botherware.” With Unarchiver 4.0 you get Setapp’s launcher/platform as well. It likes to call home fairly often (Or at least that’s the info I get from Little Snitch), it also likes to tell you about new apps. It also wants to keep a “Helper” in the Tool Bar. It’s just Botherware. Unarchiver does its job, but now it has a higher cost instead of just money. I absolutely regret upgrading to 4.0.
Perview Feature 5/5
Please add PERVIEW feature and it would be just perfect!
Indispensible, especially for non-English environment 5/5
There are several utilities that can uncompress files (zip, rar, etc.) However, where this free utility really shines is its ability to detect encoding of various file names and guessing them. For example, when I receive zip files with file names in Korean or Japanese, standard unarchiving utility in Mac makes all the file names illegible. This utility can detect and guess (often correctly) what names of those files should have been. I have used this app for many years and this app still remains the best.
Great update. But old icon looks better on OSX Maverics. 5/5
Thanks for the update! I’m glad that many bugs was fixed. But I personally a little bit dissapointed only because old icon looks better on OSX Maverics then this new one. I Will defiantly change to old icon back manually.
Exactly how it should be 5/5
Been using The Unarchiver for about a decade now, and it’s been working flawlessly throughout. No “premium version” to speak of, no weird daemons, and nice, low resource impact. When they say “…promises to stay out of the way”, they mean it.
UNINSTALL THE OTHERS! 5/5
I got rid of all the rest…this one does the job perfect!!
This is Great! 5/5
If you are looking for an app that literally just unpacks the compressed files and then closes and leaves the files ready to be viewed in Finder then this is the app for you. I have had a very hard time finding something like this in Windows. This app is really as simple as it should be.
Instead of installing the App store version, do yourself a favor!! 3/5
Instead of installing the App Store version, go online and go to the secure Unarchiver site, and download it there. Why? Because Apple limits dev’s with Sandboxing and tracks your user data while you use App Store apps…. Yuck!
5 Star for Files name Encoding! 5/5
It’s the only app that I can find to support the Windows GB Chinese Encoding app. That I won’t get some kind of strange files name. Thank a lot! Highly recommend!
Good, but it’s been better... 4/5
My go-to extractor until recently. I've had to install the command line tools RAR and UnRAR because The Unarchiver has been unable to extract multi-part rar files larger than 6GB. The command line tool UnRAR handles the same files without a problem. (You can find instructions on how to install RAR and UnRAR easily on the web).
Very Good 5/5
Works well 5/5
Simple and nice. It's a good App.
Love It! 5/5
This unarchiver is amazing!
But my only problem is: how do you unarchive more than one item?
One of the screenshots show it but i dont know how to do it…
Since discovering this application, I’ve never used anything else.
The biggest advantage is that it quite literally can handle every type of “zip” format out there.
Get it now! You wont be disappointed.
Fantastic App! 5/5
This program works flawlessly for opening multiple files of different types. For example, I wasn’t able to open an MSI file, so I downloaded The Unarchiver for my Mac, and within a minute, it was downloaded and opened. Best of all, it’s free! What an excellent program…I highly recommend it!
Does it all 5/5
This app is essential for any user exchanging files. It works quickly and efficiently without errors or problems. Used it for many many years and handles all conceivable compression and password options.
