One of the features I needed in a new car was remote start. Our seasonal temperatures range from 20 degrees in winter to 105 degrees in summer, so having a warm or cool car is a definite plus!
I also like the ability to locate the car. I once sent it in for some minor warranty work, and knowing exactly where they took it for the work was nice!
I do wish there was an option to change the length of time the car remains running - sometimes 10 minutes just isn’t long enough, and I don’t like having to pay $8/month for this convenience feature. Otherwise, it’s grand!

Love this app! It’s perfect for a person like me who often can’t remember if they locked their doors or not 🤔and you dont have to be anywhere near the car. I locked my doors while I was in Louisiana and the car was in Florida. Also super accurate, sibling found my spare key and took my car without my permission, car finder told me EXACTLY where it was located. My favorite feature is that it works on my Apple watch perfectly! After my 6 month trial, I will be purchasing!!!
The Pros and Cons of Toyota’s Remote Start 2/5
I enjoy being able to start our Toyota with the remote feature However, I am outraged that in addition to paying for my car, I have to pay a yearly charge for the privilege of using this service! I think Toyota has a lot of gall to charge an additional fee for something they advertise as being a perk when you purchase one of their vehicles!

It’s great when it works. About half the time. I get the not available at this time try later message way to often.
Not worth $8.00 per month to use. Even BMW stopped charging to use Apple Carplay. Come on Toyota, really $8/mth?
Door lock before start 2/5
You must lock the doors, wait, wait some more, and then you can start your car. You will unlock your phone and then enter your pin in the app three times to start the car and verified that it started. Really? Can’t do that all in one step? App is buggy and poorly thought out.

Toyota should be embarrassed. This app is slow and buggy, it takes forever to remote start, lock the car, or do anything — and half the time it throws an error. I have face recognition set up and enabled on my phone and in the app, yet it makes me put in a passcode when I open the app and whenever I try to do any kind of action. Why???!? It’s SO annoying.
We have a 2019 RAV 4 Hybrid we purchased new 4 months ago. I’d expect this app to work flawlessly with newer models.

I love this app and got to use it during my trial period.
However, it’s frustrating knowing that in order to use this feature, I have to pay a monthly subscription.
Other brands, like Ford, do not require a monthly subscription. That’s why Im not giving it a 5 star review.
Why Auto Log Out 1/5
Not even my bank accounts automatically log me out every 30 days. Add Touch ID or something. This is a ridiculous feature. Second, it’s really. It every useful if I can’t control the HVAC controls. That really needs to be added to make this useful.
Doesn’t connect 2/5
I traded for a new RAV4. This app worked with that car. The app has all the new information for my new RAV4 but isn’t connecting. It gives the the stats from the last use on the old car. There is no way to connect it with the new car. Not even refresh.
Does not work when needed most 1/5
The concept is good. The execution is very lacking. (1) Communication with the vehicle is very slow even if within a few feet. (2) Settings such as defrost (front windshield mode) is turned off automatically by the app, so you have to change your vent selection to defrost/floor to clear windshield (3) On the coldest mornings, I repeatedly get an error saying it cannot communicate with the vehicle or “we are experiencing technical issues...” (4) When I try to call customer service, I have to listen to 2 minutes of holiday hours before hearing selection options; then I am left on hold for more than 10 minutes with no response (at which point I hang up).
For the cost, I expect better performance, reliability, and especially service from Toyota and their service provider.

Just wished it included an option to disable the vehicle in the event it’s stolen.
It would have been nice if salesman mentioned I had to pay for remote start. Very disappointed with 2019 Avalon vs my 2014 Avalon which had much less engine and road noise and more features like a simple compass how cheap are you Mr Toyota!!!!!!

As for the app it’s alright. Honestly, it could be better. What I’m really mad about is that after the free trial ends you have to pay $8.00 a month to start your car from the app. 🤦🏼♀️

It’s ridiculous that I can receive notifications on my phone but then can’t actually connect with my car to see what the issue is. What’s the point of this app and membership fee if I can only use it with my 2020 rav4 20% of the time????
Remote Connect 1/5
My remote connect logs it’s self out and requires me to log back in using my email and password.
While this doesn’t sound to difficult the reality is every time my remote connect has logged out I find out that it’s logged out as I am walking to my car in the cold rain holding groceries and trying to open my car with remote connect. I open the app (that takes a few seconds) I push the unlock on the app (that takes a few seconds) remote connect app asks for my passcode or fingerprint and I provide the information (that takes a few seconds) then the remote connect informs me that I need to sign back in on a completely different website! This is crazy!
I wish Toyota would have the app send you a text or some type of notification as to when your app is going to log itself out so you can prepare for it.
In addition, as much as we pay for our Toyota vehicles these features should be free and come standard with every model that has the system to support these features.

I absolutely love the ability to start my 2019 Avalon Limited Hybrid the minute I get off the flight. It works flawlessly every time. Thank u to the development team for their great work. I’d love to be able to adjust the HVAC and seat heaters/coolers from the app. Brilliant ability to control teen drivers, not that I use it. This would make sense as standard on all Toyota’s. I’d limit my teen driver’s top speed as well as operating times and area they’d be allowed to operate the vehicle in.
Been using this app for a couple of years - would like to see the vehicle location while car is moving. Also the manual log in once a month is a bit lame.
Remote start not working 2/5
App worked great during free trial with my 2019 Camry XSE. I paid for a subscription after the trial ended about a month ago and now the remote start feature is constantly giving an error message and doesn’t work. Would be nice if it would work after paying for the service, especially since temps are falling. It was 24 degrees this morning and I tried multiple times to use remote start and it wouldn’t work. Walked outside to a completely frosted over car.

This app worked great when I first bought my 2019 Rav4. I paid to renew the remote connect service last month and for the past two weeks this app has not been working. This shouldn’t be a paid service if it doesn’t work. With temps dropping here on the Midwest, it sure would be nice to use the remote start that I paid for.

Every action I want to get done is very slow it takes to much time not very efficient. Once when I was starting my car via app I received an error message saying my vehicles batter was low so the remote would not work. I had an service appointment a few days later and they said it was fine but had no idea why I would receive a message mentioning that.

I tried to signup for an account . It emails me within 24 hours saying that my account was successfully created. But when I tried to login, it’s say the account is unavailable. Any suggestion ?

Every time when it’s cold, windows are frosted, or little overcast it won’t connect with the car. Maybe I’m bad luck idk. Considering this is one of the leading brands in automotive sales I assumed they had good technology. I look out side and see all my neighbors able to start there fords and Chevys every morning with no hassle with there phone. Then here is my Toyota not able to start cause it won’t read it half the time. Also when it does start it won’t allow me to restart it why, idk but half the times it does actually start the car is still frosted cause I only get one shot. Then when it’s running I open the door it shuts off. Why? Makes no sense. Definitely going aftermarket like my other buddy did that had the same issues. His works great by the way! All this also makes me consider a different brand next car buying time

Works about half the time.
When it’s super cold outside and I really need it to work, it does not work.
I spent close to half an hour on the phone this morning with Toyota and all they say is it knows it’s having trouble with Remote Connect.
After asking a ton of questions, Toyota offered no help whatsoever.
Very disappointed with the quality of this application and the lack of help at Toyota.

Can only start vehicle 10 mins at a time, opening your door shuts the car off. Mostly annoying, sometimes doesn’t work and feels like a constant updating going on where if you don’t update the app won’t work. I would do over and pay extra for a dedicated remote for my 2019 rav 4 to start it

App works, but is slow. I only use it for unlocking or locking my car. I love that it alerts me if I left my car unlocked or left my windows opened, but I wouldn’t pay $8/month just for this feature. They need to drop that to like maybe $1.99 just to lock and unlock. I hardly use any of the other stuff. I will not be renewing after my trial ends sadly.
