Ukulele by Yousician app reviews

  • Constructive Criticism! 3/5

    By lego life fan
Hi! This is Peyton. I’m here to review this app. I am also here to help give suggestions on how you can make this app better! This is an amazing app and it’s helped me with the frets, which I needed practice with. Now, don’t take this to personally because I’m not calling this a bad app. However, I was loving the lessons until I got to the strumming lessons!! I get that you need to make money, however, kids like me don’t have parents that buy the subscriptions for us! So when I needed the subscription to do the strumming, I was really sad about the fact I couldn’t do any of the songs on there! Plus, the song library has songs that only need the subscription. What could help is that you make all of the lessons free and then, for the song library, you can make some of the songs free by making a free section in the song library. Again, amazing app, but that was the only thing I didn’t like about Ukulele by YOUSICIAN. Thank you for reading Sincerely, Peyton.
  • Way. Way. Waaaayyyyy overpriced. 1/5

    By Mike of many
Marginally better than what’s available for free on YouTube but helpful for first couple practice sessions. Wouldn’t ever pay for more than a month at a time. Gamification was kind of helpful but got in the way of playing real music. I don’t want a music game. I want to play music.
  • It’s ok 2/5

    By Hyc3f
    Too expensive
  • Can’t catch notes 3/5

    By heidncjekwbs
I would be playing everything right and it would say I missed the note. No amount of tuning it at all fixed the problem. And it would pass me even if I stopped playing. It’s kind of hard to learn like this but I got the basics down thankfully
  • Kinda great 3/5

    By Melly the Belly 😜
This app is great but there is one little problem, paying for it.It might be cheap and all but I don’t have much money. If you can afford it,you can have the app but if you can’t I wouldn’t use it
  • I can’t say enough good things about this app 5/5

    By IcannotFindANameThatsNotTaken
I have tried to tackle instruments over the years and they all fizzle out, Youcisian made me stick with it! It feels like playing a video game (guitar hero vibes) and then suddenly you realize you’re making music on a real instrument. It’s a great way to learn.
  • My review 3/5

    By n no biggie fhtu
Wonderful app, but You should have more songs free to play
  • Amazing App 5/5

    By Fluffy4880
This was so good for teaching a beginner to play!! Only thing was… after about an hour and a half of playing, it told me I needed to get a subscription to continue. It’s an amazing app if you are willing to pay, but I just wasn’t.
  • Too expensive 3/5

    By shiftlogic
I tried out the app and really liked it. After a couple of days I realized I couldn’t go any further as it was behind a paywall. I get having to pay to for an app, no problem, $30 a month though seems steep. Sure I could buy a year for $12/month but I don’t even know if want to keep learning this instrument. Plus I won’t even be able to use it after that time expires. If I buy the app, I should be able to always have access to what I paid to buy; rental apps are garbage imho. Sadly can’t recommend
  • Best music app ever 5/5

It never knows what chords you do
  • 7 day trial scam 1/5

    By geronimo361
I downloaded the app and used the 7-day free trial option. It required me to select the subscription option in the event that I didn’t cancel before the 7 days, and then charged me immediately and activated the premium subscription. I did not get the proper trial period before getting charged.
  • Question 5/5

    By RozeBrie
I found the features of this app to be really great even without paying for a subscription yet, however I have a Baritone Ukulele and I can find any sort of feature in the app that allows you to switch what kind of Ukelele your using? Is there a feature for this?
  • Why tho 3/5

    By Girl 👁👄👁
Look I thought I was having fun learning and I could start writing some songs, but when I was playing and I knew I was playing the right chords, it’s like the game was deaf. It couldn’t hear my ukulele. I didn’t know what to do to fix that ends in that case, I started getting angry.
  • Four stars 4/5

    By gjdjctjfgfj
Love this app but I wish they would let you get to do more things without a subscription
  • It’s alright 2/5

    By ahh huh verosbe
It’s a good app but when I pluck the right string and fret it says I got it wrong and I’ve been reading and this has happened to a lot of people
  • Loving ukulele 4/5

    By Bazukasmash
I’m loving it!With so many songs to learn, and notes to play, it’s amazing!
  • Amazing for a beginner! 5/5

    By maddie747373848
This app deserves 5 stars. Amazing!
  • music education 4/5

    By AllNicknamesAreTaken🗿
How do you expect people to learn if you lock all of them? At least lock only some of them so people can do stuff like strumming the chords. I would put 3 1/2 but it gets a 4 for now. Otherwise, it's still a good app.
  • Good app but it is going to fast 4/5

    By quixier
I love learning with this but when your learning it is to fast after your done with one thing you get thrown in to something that is 3 times harder then what you just did but it is a good app it is just to fast for me
  • Kinda bad kinda good 3/5

    By maohinui
When I downloaded it was going really well until I got to strumming chords it wouldn’t let me do it and I would have to pay to play and it would tell me i was playing the wrong chord so yea
  • Not good 1/5

    By epj9
Downloaded, opened, tried to tune then got completely out of tune then spent an hour trying to fix. Do not recommend
  • Way to expensive 2/5

    By ts3988
I got a ukulele for Christmas and I wanted to learn so I got this app. I liked the first few lessons but when I tried to go on it said that I had to pay. I am not going to pay for this app just to learn how to play the ukulele.
  • Almost every needs you to pay 1/5

    By dinosaur_1
The free things it gives you isn’t much but I guess I can’t expect it to be free because nothing is free in the world
  • I do not like this app 1/5

    By ReRe Capri
This app was telling me to tune my ukulele and it popped one of my strings and it broke on the same day as Christmas so upset, never using this app again
  • Confused ❔ 1/5

    By will t brosnahan
Got a ukulele today on Christmas day and got a tuner with it tuned it then when I played on tuner in ukulele only told me check string when I was playing the right string.
  • paying to learn 3/5

    By rndndndn
This app was amazing at first, but when I finished the basics and got to the lessons, I have to pay for the subscription to do them. Almost every song requires the subscription to play. In my opinion this app is asking you to pay for everything, even to learn
  • Why do we have to pay so quickly? 1/5

    By hagman2002
Don’t get me wrong, I love how the app is set up, and it’s really helps beginners like me, but I hardly get through 20 minutes on the app and I have to pay to continue? No thanks, I’m not going to pay that much money to keep learning. I feel like it’s a big turn off for younger users whose parents probably don’t want to pay for that, heck, I don’t even want to pay for that. If you want your competitors (if there are any) to gain more users because their stuff is cheaper or you learn more before paying, that’s fine with me. Sorry if I sound rude it any way, but my opinions are kind of strong 😅
  • Money hungry 1/5

By Josephine and her bff james
This app worked great for the three free lessons I got, but to learn anything more than two chords and some really easy songs you need to pay for their subscription. I understand having a free app is hard, but at least put ads on the Home Screen? Or just don’t make it free at all if you’re going to be so limiting. I think this is a great idea and the app works well, but I’m not willing to pay $140/year for it.
  • Things that need improvement 2/5

    By jjsahskoinmz
When I tune my ukulele, it says I'm plucking the wrong one even tho I plucked the right string. Example: plucking string 3; shows I'm plucking string 1. Please fix this and make it accurate. I might switch if this doesn't get fixed.
  • Needs John Mayer and SRV songs 5/5

    Same feedback for yousician :)
  • Horrible 1/5

    By camdenkv
I play ukulele, so when I found this i was exited about it. UNTIL I REALIZED YOU HAVE TO PAY $30 TO PLAY ANY SONG ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH!! Yousician, PLEASE fix this!!
  • Payment? Why. 4/5

    By Twix_Queen407
I personally appreciate how they taught us a few chords and songs before mentioning paying. However, I don’t like how this app makes you pay to do any more lessons. This irritates me and I wanted to continue my lessons, because I was making such good progress. Maybe the creators could make a different way to unlock more things. Overall great app and I love it!
  • Perfect! A few cons, 4/5

    By animekatiegacha
Hello! This is coming from a person right now, at 12:28 P.M! Great app! Really helps me learn songs I wanted to play on the uke/ukulele! All-though there are a few cons, I was like half way into the start of the app (obviously when I first started) and when I played one of the strings in (Learning melodys lesson 1) It told me to play string 2 Fret 3 and I did it but it did not work, I wasted half a hour trying to make it work, And then my brother talked somehow how string 2 fret 3 sounds like, The other con is when I was getting my ukulele ready by tuning it, It said that string “E” A.K.A string 2 was string “C” A.K.A string 3. Luckily there is only 2 cons in my opinion! Great app. One more con, As I was playing “My dog has Fleas” In almost the first melody, I noticed that it was WAY to hard for a beginner like me, I have only been using Yousician for around a week or so, i JUST started it and it was way to hard. I literally had to make sure I was actually tuned. Still deserves a 4.5 star. Less better app.

Mega man man is a man man who is a man
  • Don't make us upgrade 2/5

    By Nwcmike
Why do you require us to upgrade to use the app? Our device can’t upgrade because we’re on an older iOS version. So now we can’t use the app.
  • It’s pretty good, but one problem 4/5

    By blobghgjhkjhdtrst
When i’m on the tuning part it tells me to loosen it so much its about to come off and i’m really confused. If I skip the tuning part and I even think its on tune, nothing works. I’m so confused. Also, it only listens to my playing rarely and usually says I played the wrong string.
  • Why does it cost money 1/5

    By shbduckdh
I hate that you have your first lesson so you’re so hopeful that it’s free and I’m strumming perfectly and in the second lessons you have to pay for like nobody told me I had to pay for this app I thought I was going to get free lessons this is ridiculous I don’t have money.
  • So discouraging 1/5

    By ivjfyduchkchx
I play the right note and it just says nope. And it makes me cry I hate it.
  • Great app! 4/5

    By IzzF9
At first I wasn’t sure about this app when I read all of the reviews but when I gave it a try, I was impressed! This app is perfect for beginners and it is free (there is an x on the payment screen). Sometimes it got a little frustrating when I didn’t hit the note exactly at the perfect time and I thought I got it. If you are advanced I would not recommend because there is no way to go ahead and the app just asumes you are a beginner. Overall I think this app is great and there is a variety of songs to play on your ukulele in addition to instructions.
  • Okay 1/5

    By henleywolfy123
When I tried playing I was doing it right but it wasn’t working
  • This app is garbage 1/5

    By Whehhehehdhrhe
When use a fret it doesn't let me and counts it as a regular note but I played the fret fix your app.
  • Ok 3/5

    By uoo uuo
So I was using the uke and there was no more songs to do,all of them were easy. Well I can’t access all the other songs. And I don’t like that. I want there to be more lessons because kids can learn like me.
  • Wish you didn’t have to pay 4/5

    By Ak47user
I like the app but I don’t want to pay but still good
  • They Charge You Before Your Trial Has Ended 1/5

    By kainoa12392
I signed up for this account on Thursday evening, and I utilized the 7 day free trial. I have an 11 year old, and I wanted to see if he liked playing the ukulele before buying the app. On Monday evening, roughly 4 days into my trial, I was charged $29.99 for one month of the app. I called my bank, tried to file a claim, they tell me they can’t reverse it because it hasn’t hit my account yet. I try unsuccessfully to cancel and air my grievances about their 4 day trial with the company. I have to resort to e-mailing them as that is the only way they take correspondence. I try to get my money back through Apple Pay, they tell me that it takes 48 hours and then, if and only if, they decide to give me my money back, then I have to wait up to 30 days to see the money back in my account. I’ve wasted at least an hour of my time and still as of yet, so not have my money. Not a happy customer at all. Do not use this app.
  • Bad app 2/5

    By Rylee sup
I tried it use the app and on the second thing when it says to tune your guitar it kept saying your using the wrong string and I wasn’t even touching that string and it would keep saying tune up and tune up when even though the string was so loose
  • Beginner friendly, until it’s not 3/5

    By starharhar
I just got a ukulele and I thought this app would be great, and so far it was, but then I needed a subscription to learn more! To learn how to play more then two chords you need to pay $11 a month, which wouldn’t be that bad if you had to pay for it all at once! And the other options are worse, you need to pay $30 for one month. Other then the huge cost, I think this app is okay for people just starting, but maybe stick to another app to learn more about ukulele.
