  • Unable to use it 1/5

    By Crica26
I had created a login but the app/website is far from being used friendly. Maybe I didn’t save it correctly and it keeps telling me that my login is incorrect. Problem is the app doesn’t allow me to reset the password so my daughter could never benefit from it.
  • Terrible don’t buy 1/5

    By Tony game man
I play this and after like 5 minutes it crashes and kicks me out of the app. I check the Wi-Fi connection and it’s perfect but then I go on the app and it works terribly. Buy something that actually is useful for spelling.
  • Needs an Update, ASAP! 1/5

    By cheermom82
I see my daughter use this app for homework. I always notice that when she clicks things, they don’t go through unless you push them like 10 times. Also, the game “Word Scramble,” the audio keeps on running, and it’s sound terrible and very annoying. She always complains to her father saying, “Daddy, can you fix it?” and stuff like that. I’ve complained to her school that she really does not need SpellingCity, or at least I don’t think so. Also, I don’t know if your school does this, but parents have to pay for the Premium. It’s outrageous! I would gladly pay for Premium, especially for my daughter’s education, but not for something like SpellingCity. If SpellingCity could do an awesome update, or just at least fix some bugs, it would surly do the trick for parents like me and husband to enjoy it. After all, do help with homework!

  • Technical Glitches & Premium Fees 4/5

    By SportySpice3
We have been using this app for several years and it has been an excellent tool. Suddenly it has become very glitchy on our iOs Devices (multiple) despite running updates and deleting/reinstalling the app. I started to wonder if it had to do with all the sudden complaints about the newly added premium membership fees to stuents. I called customer service (via their website) and someone answered right away. He was extremely helpful and clarified that (at least in our case) the school covers the student's "Premium", thus it is still free for my student to access the spelling lists created by her teacher. I'll admit this is confusing as on the student login it does say "For premium members only" which is misleading. If your child's teacher gave them a user name and password, your school is most likely covering the premium fee on behalf of the student. Now, the glitches we're having are still a probem, but at least I konw they are unrelated to all the complaints about the premium membership. I have subbmitted feedback on the techincal difficulties/behaviours we are having, so I'm hopeful they'll get resolved. Other than that, great app and tool for my daughter, and I'm thankful our school covers the premium fee.

  • Issues with the app 2/5

    By lizzieblizz
My daughter’s school provides Spelling City for their students. It has been very helpful as a learning tool for my daughter, much more effective than when we used to have her write out her words and test her on them. The games seem to help because she sees the words more frequently as she interacts with them, which I think helps her remember them. However, we have had some issues with the iPad app that have been very frustrating. Her list last week was contractions, and when she played games that required her to type in the word, it never accepted her apostrophes. She was very frustrated and confused and I had to assure her that she was spelling her words correctly. Additionally, when playing Sound It Out, if a word has multiples of the same letter, it will say she spelled the word wrong if she doesn’t pick the right letter block. Really, any block that represents the same letter should work. Please fix these issues!

  • Lifesaver 5/5

    By missannapolis
I absolutely love this app for loading students spelling words. I homeschool and previously made all the flash cards as lesson prep, and it took forever- looking up the definitions, making it appropriate for a 1st grader and making an accompanying picture (which would be my suggestion to the developer- in addition to pulling the definitions a great extra would be also including a picture/clip art image for the words) it’s really helpful to visual learners. I really can’t complement this product enough. I can each students progress and focus on trouble words. The kids are all getting A’s on exams because of the reinforcement in a fun format. Worth noting; I’ve noticed older iPads seem to have glitches with splat and spell. Highly recommend for anyone with weekly spelling lists

Why is there no sound when used on the iPad?
  • Disappointed 1/5

    By Perrynstep
2017 This app is now ONLY for Premium users, we spent a lot of time the past few years adding our lists on here and loved it as we could use it wherever we were at. Now we can only access it on the computer through the internet website (which we prefer to limit internet access with our children). We understand they need to make some $$ but we can no longer give it the rating we had before because 'the app' no longer offers it's original purpose to all members which is what we originally got it for. 2014 We love this app and have used it for the past few years. It has been a big help, especially now since we home school. The update for this app said it would help with the new iOS update, I just updated yesterday and now I can't get this app to work. It says it doesn't support my devices resolution now. Can you please fix this soon ?!?

Everything is alright just aim2spell always crashes!
  • Not worth it 1/5

    By Aboo Muawiyah
I added all the words and everything else, so now they change the app figures and didn’t even notify us. I understand you want to charge more that’s no problem but at least have some respect for people who actually did use your app and now it’s really difficult to even set it up. How can you keep costumers when you don’t make it easy on them!
  • New update inconvenient for classroom use 1/5

    By sml2500
We have used spelling city in my school and classroom for several years. Last year I was fortunate enough to receive an iPad cart so each student has their own iPad. We use the app almost everyday and it is very convenient since I do spelling groups instead of one list for the whole class. Unfortunately, since the last update it has been more of a nuisance than a helpful tool. It does not keep students logged in and logging in for my second graders is not an easy task. The entire layout has changed which completely threw my kids for a loop. I hope that the app creators will address some of these issues to make the app a little more user friendly in the classroom.
  • What a shame! 1/5

    By Lando21
What a shame for such a useful tool be put waste. I cannot believe we have used this app for at least 4 years and now your going to make us pay $35 a year if we want to use it! Ridiculous! You will be loosing so many customers. I could understand if that was a one time fee, but yearly is not affordable for the average household. Just think, if the yearly fee was $5, most people that value this app would agree to pay that and you'd probably be making bank, but instead you are loosing out!
  • Spelling City 1/5

    By Cj577shaf
We have used this app for years, it was great. This new update makes it totally useless! If I could rate it lower I would! You can no longer get your kids spelling lists, that's all I ever used it for and now you can't even do that! So disappointed!!!
  • Do not download this worthless app 1/5

    By Grassrootz
Would give 0 stars if possible. You must have internet enabled to use. I do not let my kids have access to the internet on their iPad, therefore this app is useless. It will now be deleted.
  • Worst update 1/5

    By Jmsc841
After 6 years of using this app on a weekly basis and recommending it to many parents and teachers, I will be abandoning it. I will not pay $35 so I can use an app instead of a website. And, since my kids hate the website, I will be finding a new solution for our weekly spelling words. Terrible change.
  • Now only for premium members! 1/5

    By KrystleHill
We have been using this SpellingCity app for years. It has been fantastic for my younger son, and I have been considering the paid version... until today. I entered my son's words as usual, and then went to check that they had imported to the app. When I opened it, I was met with a message telling me I had to update to continue. No problem. I went back to the app, only to be told, it is only for premium members!!!! Now you have to use the website for the free version, but of course it uses flash, which iPads don't support! Hence the purpose of the app in the first place! It is their company, so they can do what they want. And had they given me notice that this would be occurring, I would have purchased a membership. Now however, they have lost our business, and I am off in search of a replacement!
  • Why the change? 2/5

    By Sgorjski
We have been using this app for a few years and have loved it, but now when we go to the app and click on any of the activities, it takes us to the Internet, and doesn't play within the app. I just upgraded to the premium version thinking that may have had something to do with the change, but now after reading all the reviews, it seems that it's due to your latest update. Please revert back to the old program, clearly we all loved it, so I'm not sure why you made these changes.
  • Waste of time!!!!! 1/5

    By Eye maven
Our school assigns this as part of the daily homework and therefore must be completed as part of the grade. It is just more busy work with no observable help with spelling for all that it is touted as making spelling fun - it is worthless as it doesn't help learn the words. You still have to practice spelling the "old fashioned" way so it essentially is doubling the work load for spelling.
  • Just wow 1/5

    Ok,I'm a student,but I'm not saying that I don't like it,but IT SOMETIMES DOESN'T EVEN WORK! This app is ****
  • Not happy! 1/5

    By Dbob265
I have used this app for years and now I have to pay to even use app! Terrible decision and not happy about it. Guess we will look for something different. I assume that's why our teacher isn't using it anymore
  • No Sound 1/5

    By Dabullfamily
We use the premium version on the computer, so decided to put it on the ipad for easier use by my youngest who needs the phonetic games. My youngest started crying when he discovered there was no sound. Further investigation revealed that the Apple app does not work on an ipad because Flash is required. Why even make the app in the first place? -Totally useless.
  • Unbelievable! 1/5

    By Mosksesa
How do you call this an app when it opens up in Safari? This is Not An App! This is a huge security concern for me as my children play on their iPads. I pay way too much money on your program and it's not worth continuing. In addition, your site is not very user-friendly. I'm sorry, but you will be losing a loyal customer of three years.
  • This app USED to be great 1/5

    By ambird27
I've used this app for years. Even subscribing as a "premium" member. It WAS great. But, the newest versions is absolutely worthless. The app is now ONLY for premium members....yet even when logging in as premium member, it is useless. Takes you to a web. Asked format. No teach me. No Test me function. This has been our go to studying app for 5 years. Subscribing for almost the full time. They have ruined this great app. Using Quizlet now instead. It's great.
  • I want to love it 2/5

    By Mamajansen
But why the heck does it fail a student for not capitalizing the first letter. Is there a way to turn this feature off? My daughter uses the iPad to play and that makes her fail nearly every test. Also I set the list up, select the games, and then none of them are playable. We have to go to the "all games" tab from the list screen which is confusing for little ones.
  • So great!!! 5/5

  • WHA Happened???!!! 1/5

    By Braintrainer605
Although this is only my third year using this app, all 35 of my spelling lists have been entered and are ready to go. All 30 of my students have been uploaded and are ready to go. The thing that's NOT ready is this app. Why on earth would I download the app on my device and the 16 student iPads just to be directed to the web. Certainly this is something that will be fixed, right?? I hate (yes, I feel that strongly) the changes that have been made, especially for students logging in and teachers creating assignments. Everything from last year was fine. Why change it at all? There's no way I'm adding our new vocabulary lists now. What a disappointment.
  • OMG 1/5

    By Teacher3041
The latest update is horrific! As a premium paid member I have a ton more set up to do for my students for them to use the app. There are less choices as I can only assign 10 assignments. That's right, I HAVE to assign. They can't choose. While using iPads with 23 students, I have had on average over the first two weeks of school, 9-11 students that have had the app constantly "kick" them out every time we used the program. Difficult to manage while I am working with small groups to constantly troubleshoot the "kick out". Not even almost considering renewing the premium account. Will move on. Oh yeah...never even notified of all of the login changes...discovered it as we all had iPads and started to use it. WOW!
  • Not worth paying $35! 1/5

    By Mdill13
We have used this app for a few years now and I am so disappointed at how expensive it is! I would have gladly paid $4.99/year but at $34.99 you have to be kidding me. And it's always been difficult to search for our schools lists. We will be using something else from now on. I deleted the app!

  • If I could give 0 stars I would. 1/5

Last year we were able to use the app just fine with the user account we have, now the app doesn't work unless you have student usernames and accounts. We have spent years setting up the lists and now it is unusable unless I help students on the web. It takes away my valuable teaching time. Will there be a fix for this soon???
  • Completely disappointed 1/5

    By Eilerscrewofmany
We have used this app for years and now it has to be used only on the internet. I don't feel comfortable letting my younger child on the Internet. We used to love this app and now I am completely disappointed with what you all have done. I do not understand why.
  • Certain features are irreplaceable! 1/5

    By KK in TX
Don't have your kids waste their time on the games. They are not going to learn their weekly words fast enough using the games. On the other hand, the teach some, testNteach, and test me are exactly what you need for your child to learn independently. The #1 feature is TestNTeach-it calls out word, they try the word, then it immediately corrects them by spelling it out and adds that misspelled word to the end of test and continues to ask it until child spells it correctly on their own. The above opinion was before they decided to charge $35 a year! We no longer are able to use the product, because at that price, I only purchase lifetime subscriptions. It's not a self standing teaching platform, rather a tool. It requires your effort putting in lists and making assignments etc. The price is unreasonable.
  • Disappointed long time user 1/5

If I could give this app 0 stars I would. We've used spelling city for five years, but now with the latest upgrade I have to pay $35 a year to use the app. No thank you! We switch to Spelling Free instead. Not what we're use to, but it works just fine and I don't have to pay to use it.
  • Lost another customer 1/5

    By Romanava
I just finished inputting my son's first week spelling list so he could practice. Upon logging in on his app, I kept receiving an error message. After 30 minutes of trying to figure out the problem, I look at the app reviews and realize the problem. It's absolutely ridiculous to take away app access for free members. My kids loved using Spelling City, which is a big deal considering they hate practicing their spelling words. They even used the app this summer. I'd be willing to pay $2-4 for the app, but not $35. I'll be looking for a new spelling app.

  • Change in App - Very disappointed 1/5

I have been using this app going on for 5 years. My fifth grader struggles with reading and vocabulary and this app assisted her and being successful for the past four years. Now that the new school year has started we have logged in to find that the app is no longer an app and it's web based. It only works with flash player, which is not available on Apple products. She is no longer able to use The "test me" feature or the "teach me" feature to make sure that she is spelling her vocabulary words correctly. We were able to lock her in and she could study as we cook dinner or in the car. Very frustrated and distraught that we are going to struggle more now that she's getting older and are losing our best resource to help provide her education outside of the classroom.
