Great Program! 5/5
I’m a 45 year old former college football player that was looking for a program that would motivate me and push me a little while making reps, sets, and movements interesting. The “cross-fit” style programs required high volume, a lot of time, and a long recovery period. This is amazing so far!
ALMOST perfect 3/5
Edit: Reduced from 4 stars to 3, due to lack of desired features from a pay-to-use app.
I gave this app 4 stars because it’s lacking a couple basic things that any pay-for major-branded app should have (i.e. Gatorade). If I could do half-stars, I’d really lean towards 3.5 stars.
1. Where’s the Apple Watch compatibility? I should be able to adjust weight and reps on my watch. I should be able to select ‘done’ with my current set and see a timer for my rest and see what’s next.
2. Where’s the iPad function for basic users? Volt has all kinds of stats available to coaches on the Volt Team app. Why can’t I see the same thing for myself?
3. I’d like a little more flexibility and tracking of non-prescribed workouts. If I do a finisher, primer, or one of their “extras”, I should be able to select that as an additional workout and have the same rep counter and weight tracking functionality. The app should also track that and put it into corresponding data points for down the road (and I should see that in stats on the iPad app I don’t have).
4. I’d like more freedom on selecting workouts. Right now I can only change the set to what it thinks is in the same grouping (ex. I can’t select curls if it wants me to do a squat). I like that there is the grouping of, say straight leg or bent leg exercises, but I’d like to see a third option of “all exercises”.
5. I wish there was a way to select what gym equipment I have so it could build the exercises around that. Not everyone has a GHD or goes to a gym that has one. It’d be nice to say I have this, this, and this equipment available to me and the app would use exercises that use that equipment.
If I have to pay to use this app, then I want more. If Gatorade is paying Volt to use this as a advertisement, then I want more. I expect more. This is a great app that’s really missing the mark by just a few, simple changes.
This app created a year long program for athletes.
Too bad it decided to randomly delete all my training data after 3-4 months.
Garbage. Wasted my time.
Awesome app with video descriptions, ability to trade out exercises. Best workout app I have used with fantastic programming.
Last update made app very glitchy 4/5
By yetti jr.
Great app but after the last update the screen on the app frequently becomes unresponsive.
Great but needs more detail 4/5
Great app with challenging workouts! Could definitely give some more detail on the routine. It gives you 3 days worth of workouts but isn’t specific with what days you lift and which days you rest. Do you lift 3 days in a row? Do you lift one day then off the next? Some more detail in that aspect would make the app perfect.
App would be even better with more sports 4/5
Any recommendations for which training program I should use for pole vault?
Beware of the trial scam. 1/5
I wanted to check this app out since it said it has a 7 day free trial. I thought I would be able to check out the program, but it’s a bit of a scam. It tells me it’ll start billing my account 9.99$/month if I don’t opt out in time. So if you don’t pay attention you might find your self paying without realizing you were supposed to. Free trial, more like free scam. Let me do the trial, then if I like it offer the sign up after the 7 days, not at the time of the 7 days hoping I forget to cancel.
Great app! 5/5
By Judo Rick
I’ve tried a lot of workout apps but this is the only one that truly gives sport specific training. Like a lot of the new features they’ve released! Keep up the good work Volt!
Trustworthy Training for Athletes 5/5
I really like that the workouts are designed for sport preparation and not just fitness. I work in the industry, so I’ve seen the good and the bad. Highly recommend Volt for safe, no nonsense training.
Great workout program but only 3 days? 2/5
I have been looking for a good workout program for a while and thought I found one! But after I completed day 3 it didn’t have anymore days for me to do anything and had to wait until the next week to do anything... Not very happy about that!
Missing only one thing 4/5
I have tried several programs and training based apps. None have worked as well as this app. The only thing missing is if you suffer an injury, there is no way to input your injury and have your program adjust accordingly. The app would be perfect if this was feature was added.
Really Satisfied 5/5
It gets the job done. 4/5
By Ronnie Drama
Really like the premise at how it builds a workout to your needs. If I had any negative feedback, I would say it doesn’t let you track how easy or difficult the specific workouts were so that you are able to look back at the history and adjust when you see the workout again. Other than that. It’s great.
Great for former athletes 5/5
As a former D2 athlete I never really enjoyed the weight training part of being an athlete. After starting to use Volt I’ve actually been enjoying it. The personalized training has changed as I’ve gotten stronger and I’ve learned a lot about strength training along the way.
Cancel subscription 1/5
I am trying to cancel my free trial before it auto renews but there is no clear way to end the trial and it is very frustrating.
This app gives you a variety of exercises that keep you motivated and engaged. Not the usual bodybuilding stuff, but instead it offers compound exercises that focus on building strength for the whole body. Great for athletes, especially those who are playing for fun. It tracks your progress, gives you alternatives if you’re uncomfortable with a certain exercise or the gym is too packed to wait around for equipment to open up. It gives you the correct way of performing each exercise to avoid injury. The warm ups, primers, finishers and conditioning options are great as well, with lots of variety to keep you engaged. I do with the app would give you the price somewhere easy to find, as I am not sure if it 9.99 or 29.99?
Either way, can’t say enough good things about it!
Payment is difficult to cancel 1/5
The app makes it difficult to get out of the payment.
Extremely unethical business/app 1/5
I canceled my account within the trial period because I did not think these workouts were very challenging. I was still charged 9.99 even thought I canceled within the trial period. Additionally, it is pretty challenging to find where to cancel - the company does everything it can to get the money out of you, and even when you do everything to cancel, you are still charged.
I even reached out to the support email provided by the app developers and they did not even respond to my issue at all - no email back whatsoever.
Very disappointed and know never to get anything related to this app and its developers again.
Worth it 5/5
By Holly Benner
Getting motivated to train isn’t an issue for me, the challenge is that I get bored- especially with strength work at the gym. I can swim/bike/run all day but put me in a gym with a cookie-cutter routine and I’m over it in a week.
Volt has been awesome bc it’s structured, periodized, progressive AND has enough variety week-to-week to keep me engaged. I can’t believe I love an app this much. It’s worth the cost and then some. Besides, health and functional fitness is priceless.
It’s been so long since I’ve found a strength training routine, not to mention an App, that can keep up with my demands.
I’m feeling fit and strong and the Volt workouts don’t interfere with my Tri specific training. It’s awesome and I love it!
Really like it 4/5
I tried the app before and didn’t care for it because I didn’t care for the exercise selections.
I decided to give it another chance and a couple of weeks later I really like it now.
I hope Apple Health integration is coming
Worst workout I’ve ever had 1/5
This workout was tailored for Lacrosse and i have become weaker over the coarse of 3 months
Charged my account for 3 months without notifying me at all. I deleted the app and it is still charging me.
Not for those looking to get in great shape 3/5
It’s great for those that have access to gyms that have every piece of equipment known to man, but it fails for those that don’t. It’s a great guide to some basic workouts, but anyone serious should look elsewhere. The “swap” component is nice but it should have specific movements that it at least recommends rather than just a giant list of movements that don’t work the muscles in the same way at all.
cancel subscription 1/5
how i cancel my subscription to this thing? it ain’t even worth it
Great but running into some issues. 4/5
I’m trying this app for a month. It’s been really great. But running into some problems.
1: I can’t view historical of the weight reps I did in previous workouts. This should be given. Example: I didn’t add in a hang strength number so the workout didn’t give me weight to do. I did the exercise and added the weight manually. In the workout this week I can’t see the weight I did??
2: Along with first problem. Would like to see a full detail of what I did (weights and reps) for every workout.
3: If I manually put in a higher weight for an exercise, the history still shows the weight Volt told me to do. This is most frustrating...
Please update these. If I’m going to continue paying for subscription this is basic.
What I like:
1: Easy to change workouts.
2: Variety if workouts.
Add Figure skating 3/5
By Nora Mizuchi
I am in a few sports and the one i really want to train for us figure skating. i’m under ice hockey bc that’s pretty close but not close enough
I hope they add figure skating in the future
After clicking “start workout” and skipping warmup, the screen gets stuck on the “starting workout” with the orange background. If I choose to do a warmup, after clicking the orange “complete warmup” option nothing happens as well... it just brings me back to the warmup options and the only way to proceed is to click skip again.
Certainly not the best... 2/5
After experimenting with a few different programs within the app, it's clear these workouts are randomized with no clear focus on training days. Take a little extra time to research and build your own program - you'll get better results quicker.
Pros: Good explanation of proper form with accompanying photos. Workouts not repetitive.
Cons: No focused workouts. Programs seem completely randomized. Results delivered very slowly over 52 weeks (i.e. a year). Overpriced for what it delivers.
Needs iPhone X update ASAP.
The Hell 5/5
By Orion Wolfgang Von striker
I can't even open the app it literally crashes every single time please fix if it starts working I'll happily raise the rating
Doesn’t have my sport :( 1/5
All these sports, some I’ve never heard of before, yet no gymnastics 😩
Love this program!
10/10 life changer 5/5
Volt is a 10/10 game changer for this young professional. I struggled for years to pick a routine that I can stick with. I know I benefit from having a coach, but I don’t want to pay for a personal trainer, and group training sessions are too generalized. One year ago, I started using the “All Around Athletel” program on Volt and it’s the first time I’ve been able to stick to a routine. I’ve gotten remarkably stronger and healthier in the past year.
Planning my gym time has always been hard, and it’s always been easy for me to end a workout early since I had no plan. Volt takes care of all the workout planning to the point where I don’t even have to think about the gym, I just go to the gym and follow what it says. Volt prescribes the warm-up, exercises, reps, and weight. It adapts to what you can do and updates future workouts to reflect that. You can even switch out similar exercises in a workout if say all the bench presses are taken at a gym. I love volt and it keeps getting better with every update.
SOOO BAD 1/5
I AM SO ANGRY, THE COMPANY DOES NOT LET YOU CEASE THE SUBSCRIPTION AND THEY CHARGED MY CARD
Love it 5/5
Never written an app review before, but this app is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Highly recommend to anybody looking for professional, evidence-based exercise programming.
For 5 dollars a month, in 4 months, I’ve made more gains than I did in 1.5 years on my own. I absolutely love this app.
Good for Soccer 5/5
I have been using Volt for a few weeks now. I was impressed how personal and professional the program was. Like having a personal trainer on your phone. I had it train me for soccer, and I could feel it in my legs after day one - great strengthening and injury prevention workout.
Great app for training 5/5
By Coach Bill L
Volt has made a tremendous App for all levels of training whether you are a novice or an expert! Easy to use and detailed with great tips and suggestions and coaching points. Worth it for the serious trainer! I would highly recommend!
Fantastic, Innovative App 5/5
This is one of my favorite training apps due to the dependability of quality information available and ease of use. Their GIFs make it easy for identifying proper exercise technique and their staff is very responsive and knowledgeable for any issues that come up!
Great app & great customer service 5/5
By Lew Porchiazzo
I've been using Volt for about a year with my athletes and have received tremendous feedback on the ease of use and access to their strength and conditioning programs. I love the use of GIFs as it eliminates any confusion on how a specific exercise should be performed, especially helpful for remote programming! Inevitably, there have been a few minor glitches, which I expect with any app/technology. However, the customer service from the Volt team has been first class! They've helped to correct any glitches along the way, even being proactive to the point that they've notified me of potential issues before myself or my athletes recognized them! If you're looking for a sound strength and conditioning program, with ease mobile access, and great customer support, look no further!
Not a 7-day free trial 1/5
On the app’s sign up, it clearly says “Start your 7-day free trial”. This implies that my subscription won’t be charged until the 7th day, but I got charged even though I canceled on day 2 of my trial.
You can't get your own program and coach out there better than this! 5/5
I've been using this app for myself and for some teams I train. I love the workouts and the variability of the exercises. I love how I can also swap out exercises in exchange for other ones and they give me suggestions that fall within the same category. My teams also love it and I love being able to trust that they are doing technique correctly. With the amazing cues and visual aids I think it's safe to say there is nothing out there better than this and it definitely worth the price. Plus the employees at Volt are incredibly accommodating and work with you if you have any questions at all. I would write their customer service with five stars as well!
Ferocious Beast of the Wild 5/5
By Dax Elrod
I'm an "all-around athlete" with no sport. I'm committed to my fitness goals, but sometimes my workouts suffer from randomness, and I spend too much energy deciding what to do in the gym rather than concentrating on my lifts. Volt solved that problem permanently. I love the data-centric approach. The exercises and explanations are well-organized and the progression between them is clear. The rest-countdown timer feature holds you accountable to the pace of the workout. My favorite thing is the ability to swap out exercises. I am trying to transition from a normal gym to a smaller home gym; being able to swap a barbell exercise for a dumbbell exercise can make all the difference. Overall, just a fantastic fitness experience and app that obviously has a ton of science and design expertise behind it. Thank you for this tool--so worth it!!
LOVE THIS APP!! 5/5
You can't get training plans like these off the internet - they're sport specific, personalized, and calibrated to my exact strength levels. I am running faster than ever and my core has never been this strong.
Athletic optimization 5/5
Took my workouts to a new level; I had always done my routine, but these custom tailored workouts bring a scientific precision to the plan
Rowing specific, personalized training 5/5
I love the ability to train with the personalized advice and guidance of a coach even when I'm on the road. Certainly less expensive than personal training at the gym and I can take it with me on the road! Head of the Charles here I come.
Definitely recommend 5/5
