I loved VRBO when I first started using it. Now there are large property managers using it that show they have availability but they may or may not. That happened to us when trying to book a place in Steamboat this winter. What a waste of your time! I also dislike the filter and sort by room rate, so many additional fees are added that room rate is pretty meaningless.

Great options, high fees 3/5
I really enjoy the chance for low cost rentals through VRBO. However the fees and taxes make up 30% of the costs. Airlines and car rentals used to do this and were forced by govt regulators to disclose the costs. My reservation for $1600 turned into a $2100 cost. I get the taxes, but a service fee, administrative fee, and cleaning fee turns a $145/night reservation into a $175/ night cost. Just tell me it’s $175.
But.... it’s a nice place and good location. Cheers!!
Difficult to contact the owner 3/5
VRBO seems to be taking the “owner” out of the process. It’s difficult it ask specific questions about the property, no phone number or ability to contact directly.
I want to pay balance and it’s been a nightmare. Hopefully somebody will reply to one if my emails or messages to owner

Nice to see that VRBO has changed the way they display the fees so you can see the true cost up front.
Unfortunately, still behind the times in that they do not include a date on the reviews. You can’t tell if the review that says the unit is “outdated” is 2 weeks old or 3 years old...so hard to compare that with the review that says the unit is well maintained.

There was one successful placement which was great. I hope my recent reservations are as successful. VRBO notified me of 2 cancellations for same upcoming trip after telling me the trips were confirmed and subsequently cancelled 1 because of a declined credit card which I could have easily remedied the other because of the owner saying the dates 2 of the days weren’t available, causing me the stress of scrambling to find a place. Subsequently VRBO showed me limited less desirable selections probably due the the number of cancellations which I did not initiate. When I looked for a number to call on the cancellation e-mail I could not find one. This has been a nightmare. Thanks for the opportunity rate my experience.

I find it a bit frustrating that units that are already booked are still listed. I usually email the owner to ask.

Love the service, it’s a great way to find a place to stay. I wish there was a way to easily add a day to a stay without having to cancel and re-book.
My filters wouldn’t save and the dates of reviews are not visible. This is not how the Android app is. apple needs to fix

First try: booked house based on pet-friendly filter, only to have the owner call me the next day and tell me the property was listed as pet-friendly by mistake, asked me to cancel.
Second try: found house based on 3-night criteria, tried to book, but then message said there’s a 4-night minimum. Ok, but the days before and after were booked, so impossible to do four nights. Emailed management company “Turnkey” but no substantive response. Was willing to add a night, no prob, but I guess they don’t want the business...
Overall the booking system has too many inaccuracies and glitches , and management response is inconsistent.

Last time we rented in Pearl Harbor area we were mislead on the location. We were told it would be on the beach it was a block away. We were billed for my son in law where as he stayed on the USS Carl Vinson? So Dolly kinda over billed us. I’m fine
Terrible experience with booking 1/5
Online booking-I put in all my credit card info only to have an error message said try again in a few mins. So I did and received another error message. Tried again now my dates aren’t available. Try few minutes later room is available again and I had $61 pending charge and $0 charge. Didn’t know if it went through or if I should find another place. Call and they tell me its available at a higher rate now. So I’m connected to booking and give all my info again I get confirmation from representative. Then I never received confirmation email or charged. I call back and they have no record of my reservation now i can book it again at an even higher rate. What is going on with VRBO? Highly disappointed. Previously never had issues like this.
The explanation of the app said we could find the closest grocery stores, etc, but I can’t find that information on the app

We enjoyed a few days at the 87Getaway. It was relaxing, peaceful, comfortable and clean. It is a short drive to Blanchard Springs and Mirror Lake which were beautiful for a nice hike. The drive to Mountain Home, AR was very scenic. We highly recommend this place to anyone!
Terrible Customer Service 1/5
Seems like I’m not the first one here to call out their customer service experience.We had booked a rental property through VRBO. Upon arrival, the property was mess with died bugs, horrible smell and a very few lights working. The property manager agreed to refund the amount on phone through chat which gave us a proof in written. We checked out of the property immediately based on the terms of the property manager. VRBO customer service was made aware about the situation immediately. We finally figured out a place by ourselves.
Few days later, when checked with VRBO about the refund status we learnt that the property manager has now decided not to refund us and customer service literally said that they can’t do anything. VRBO let us open a case for which we provided all the pics and chat messages with the property manager. Few days later after we followed up, they decided to close our case since the company can not to do anything to get us the refund. We never got the refund. VRBO charged us for the service we never used.

Hi, would like to offer my little bit of advice. When I type in an area to look for an accommodation, many times I receive information for an area in another town. For example, I type Holmes Beach Fl, and am shown residence in Bradenton. Would be nice to know ahead of time when looking at the pictures where I am looking at. Thank you

VRBO Nightmare 1/5
Although I had used VRBO once in the past year without incident, my most recent experience with them has turned me into a crazed lunatic. For the past 2 weeks, I have attempted to book a particular property in London, and I kept receiving automated declination notices from VRBO stating that there were insufficient funds in my bank account and to contact my bank. I immediately contacted my bank, and the bank representative and I then called VRBO together to assure them the funds were adequate. The VRBO operator apologized and asked that I re-request the property online as she could not book the property over the phone. I did so, and again received the same declination notice from VRBO stating I had insufficient funds. I tried several more times, using a different credit card, as well as with a VRBO booking agent on the line, but each attempt was again unsuccessful. After a week of unsuccessful attempts, I then asked the VRBO customer service agent that this issue be escalated, and I was informed that all details of my experience were documented, and that I would be contacted by their IT department. Five days later, I received an email stating that they had researched my issue and felt that there were insufficient funds in my account. I emailed IT back and explained that my bank had already confirmed there was no problem with my credit or available funds. They responded a couple days later asking me to call customer support because my dilemma was “too complicated to address via email”. I called customer support and over the next 1.5 hours on the phone, being transferred to four separate employees, none of whom had any idea why I was calling, despite the fact that I explained the entire story to each and every one of them, and already had a “case report” with the full explanation of circumstances already documented a week prior when IT was initially notified. In the end, I was finally told that despite the fact that IT had asked me to call to resolve the issue, that IT would be in touch with me by email with a resolution. Within the hour, I received an email from IT saying that based on their research that yes, you guessed it, that there were insufficient funds in my bank account and that I should contact my bank.
My wife had suggested early on in this process to give up on this pursuit of this property through VRBO, but I clung to the idea that such a seemingly simple problem could easily be remedied if only any employee at VRBO could be sufficiently competent to help. It turns out I should have listened to her. After speaking with probably 15 different employees, totaling about 6 hours over a 2 week span trying to book a 3 day vacation, I have finally given up. I will never use VRBO again.

VRBO shows an average cost but it doesn’t explain additional cost for convenience or service or people. For example, the home listed accommodates 12 people but they will charge you for each additional person after 6 people.
That’s FALSE ADVERTISING, in my eyes, doesn’t build confidence in this company or the homes listed. Beware!!

I asked for a week to be contacted about this property. When I finally get a response it’s already booked for my dates. VRBO is so worried that someone is going to rent without them getting their cut, that you cannot be in contact with the owners anymore. Not Happy

I was using the web site with great ease. Came across the app which promised a better experience.. I found the app much less user-friendly. When I attempted to go back to the website it wouldn’t give me access to properties but forced me back to the app. Wish I had not downloaded the app.3

You now have to submit credit card information and have a hold placed on your account just to see if you can even book a property? When did this start! I have booked regularly and never had to do this! Has VRBO been hacked? Is my credit card info all over the internet? Is all my personal information hacked as well? NOT HAPPY

Poor communications with VRBO 1/5
No responses to problems by VRBO except an automated response. Had an issue with property and it’s location after paying for it day before move in. Just lost almost $900 over this deal. Never again will I use this service

VRBO, the service vs the app. 3/5
I love using VRBO to book our family trips! Great property options and a wide range of prices for whatever your budget/priorities. VRBO app leaves a lot to be desired. The photos of properties are cropped so you don’t get a clear view. The map area doesn’t allow you to use the satellite view to get a better idea of the location of properties.
