If you actually go through the reviews you’ll notice that this service is not good. And in fact does not deserve 5 stars because they are not in favor of the customer, as they’d prefer to side with the property owners at all costs. I had several issues with my reservation. Provided photo evidence of my encounter. 3 hours with customer support. And was still met with all of the reasons why I could not be assisted. If you have any issue what so ever. They will not protect you AT ALL. On top of all of the issues at the actual rental. I ended up in a bad neighborhood with little to no security at the supposed location. Apparently. VRBO does not care about your safety. Unless its about Covid. (But that was probably to cover themselves at one point). Did not end up staying one night. And ended up having to use AirBnB. They play the game of letting property owners give you a refund. But they know they give them the power to NOT have to do so. So of course the owner kept my money and ran.
Photos of listings are typically fabricated and misrepresent actual locations. And apparently. VRBO allows this. As long as its, technically, the same living space. This service, and its property owners, have no integrity. Do not waste your time or money with this service.
And P.S. the scummiest part is that most listings aren’t actually owned by people. Companies buy apartments and such and try and run them like a hotel business. For that. Just go to stay at a legit hotel. At least if you have any issues you’re backed by a reputable company.

I have been screwed over two years in a row by this app and it’s customer assistant agents. Two years ago, I had a trip booked to go to Colorado a few months ahead of time. About a week before my actual trip, I followed up with my host (thank god!). I was informed BY THE HOST that this house was no longer available to stay in and was no longer a rental house. Where was VRBO on this? No where to be found. I followed up with them, they said they could do nothing and would take 2-3 weeks to get refund. Alright, what about the ski tickets, rented gear etc? No discount for another house, no assistance to find another one, tough luck basically. Had to scramble to book another house, more expensive now because I had paid for two bookings at this point, just hoping I’d get my money back for the first. After calling and emailing daily, I FINALLY got it back. No thanks to VRBO. I had to work directly with the host. This year, I went on another trip to Colorado. In my “rental agreement” it said a $250 security deposit must be paid at least 30 days prior to arrival. No problem, I’m not worried about this. I’m sure I will get it back. I verified with the host after my stay that I would get it back. He said I should, no damage was reported. All of a sudden, VRBO says I never laid it. How? How can I stay when it is REQUIRED before stay? There’s $250 I’ve been informed I will not be receiving back. Another thing about my last trip, there was a $60 cleaning fee. In my rental agreement, it says if house was no cleaned up then I would be charged more. Why am I paying a cleaning fee if we have to vacuum, do dishes, make beds, etc? A $172 lodging fee. Is my $170/night not enough? Have to add another $172 on top of that? They add fees like they don’t already make enough money. To sum it up, I wouldn’t recommend this app to my worst enemy. Their customer service is TERRIBLE. It is all outsourced to an overseas 3rd party team that has no care to actually help. Please take this review and take your business elsewhere.

You can’t copy the address (from an updated iPhone at least).
And the directions link won’t open.
And adding a guest doesn’t work.
So, you gotta write down all that stuff manually and then send info to yourself or to people on your trip in separate apps.
Maybe works better on the web, but I tried to access stuff through the email links, and that didn’t go much better.

This company used to provide a good service, but now it hides actual prices behind checkout. The fees often amount to much higher if not double cost of advertised price. Hotels are now actually cheaper.
Unable to share itinerary 3/5
I sat with VRBO customer support for several minutes, while it repeated asked if I was still there while I waited on their response. Come to find out, the feature to share an itinerary is not working anymore and to share a trip with those joining me, my best option according to the folks at VRBO was to send my friends a screenshot. The app lacks several filters I would like when searching for a place to stay and the app doesnt work very well. I also dislike the fact vendors can use outside payment processing for certain aspects of the stay. It reduces confidence and safety to provide so much information outside this walled garden ecosystem.

VRBO Mess! 1/5
My husband and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and planned to take our family to St John USVI and stay at the Westin Resort with our adult children and 5 grandchildren. We have stayed at several Westin Resorts and they do not disappoint! We love them! Our first week when our family was with us, we booked directly through the Westin (December 24, 2022 to January 1, 2023. For that week we had one 2 bedroom villa and one 3 bedroom villa. For our second week, another couple were joining us and we were unable to book a 2 bedroom villa through the Westin directly, as they were fully booked. So I checked the VRBO App and found a 2 bedroom villa at the same Westin Resort. We booked it, paid in full for it and received confirmation from our host that we could have it from January 1 to 7, 2023. All of this was done on February 14, 2022. This confirmation is visible to our host and VRBO in our stream of messages in the VRBO App. All taken care of 10 months in advance of our trip. About 6 weeks prior to our trip we communicated with our host once again, just to ask about the check in process and let her know we were very excited about our trip to St. John’s. We received a reply from her saying she didn’t recall that she had booked us for that time in her villa…we were stunned! We called VRBO and spent many hours, many times with them telling us they guarantee our booking, however we knew that at that time most everything on St. John’s was booked and our host would not communicate with us. Finally the day before our January 1st reservation VRBO notified us that we had the 2 bedroom villa for our dates. We went to the Westin reservation desk to confirm this and found that we were booked for 4 nights…not the 6 nights we had booked. We still had 2 nights with no place to stay. Our host finally called us and said she had booked us at Frenchmen’s Cove Marriott Resort in an oceanfront 2 bedroom villa. It meant moving from St. John to St. Thomas. The villa there was very nice but the resort did not compare to the Westin or St. John. We still enjoyed our vacation but all of this certainly added a lot of stress wondering if we’d be sleeping on the beach. It meant many hours on the phone when we would have rather spent with our family! VRBO and our host were a huge disappointment. Buyer beware!

VRBO does not have protections for booking “trusted property management” locations.
VRBO support is responsive but completely unable to help.
The application is constantly buggy. It does not respond or needs to be quit and reopened.
I would not recommend to anyone. Delete the app, delete your account, pay a little more and get a better experience elsewhere.

We had the opportunity to rent this cabin in Feb ‘2022 for a few days around Valentine’s Day and my boyfriend’s birthday and had a wonderful time! The cabin was clean, located in a very secluded area of the woods surrounded by pine trees and other cabins. We really enjoyed the amenities of the cabin and our stay! We will definitely be back!

App is very slow retrieving messages. It takes up to 10-15 seconds for a conversation to be retrieved and displayed on a very fast connection. How is that possible. Same with payment flow.
Terrible company customer service 1/5
Me and my wife have two homes listed on their website, both preferred hosts. We got hacked a couple months ago and we have got our house locked out. We have called no less than 15 times and have received no help!!! I can’t say enough how bad they have been at fixing this issue. We still pay for our yearly fee, but haven’t received one booking due to the lockout!! I wouldn’t ever recommend this company. Terrible customer service!!

Booked a home that was listed at $1300 per night for 2 nights. There was a disclaimer on the bottom that said fees were included in this price although taxes were not. Fair enough.
After I got approved by the owner and went to pay for the reservation, the total came to over $3300. This included a $366 “service fee” and a $200 cleaning fee.
It’s getting ridiculous. Better off getting a hotel.
Removes Negative Reviews 1/5
I’ve used VRBO several times over the years without issue, but the first time I left a negative review for a renter there were issues. They removed the negative review several months after I submitted it because it “disclosed the location of the property”, despite the fact that the review contained no location information at all. As part of the removal, they said I would have to revise the review before it would be publicly visible again. The only problem is that you are not allowed to revise reviews that are older than two weeks. Despite having good experiences in the past, I now know that I cannot trust the reviews and ratings of properties on VRBO and will no longer be using it.

We have had numerous good trips through VRBO and it had become our favorite way to travel. There has been a recent change that makes this much less desirable. We made two reservation request recently only to have the host come back and raise their published rates prior to accepting the booking. Then our most recent experience we booked a trip with instant acceptance. We then made arrangements to go. Several weeks later the owners cancelled the booking, extended the minimum stay and raised the rate. There is no recourse for our lost cost for our travel booking. I need a place where if you book someplace you can safely book flights and you know you will have a place to stay.

Decided to try out Vrbo for the first time for a recent trip. The property and stay were nice, but Vrbo will leave you out to dry if there are any problems. The host decided to keep my damage deposit without explanation and after reaching out to customer service they said “I need to come to an agreement with the host.” Totally unacceptable and an incredibly frustrating experience. Stay far away from this app and stick with Airbnb
The best choices 5/5
I almost exclusively use VRBO now.
They have the most upscale choices and one of the easiest to read descriptions of the homes. It would be nice to ask the owners to include a floor plan if it all possible but I know that's hard sometimes. We've been very happy with the response when things go wrong. We were going to France a couple of years ago and the week we were going to Paris, the owner canceled and VRBO got us a better place right away for the same money. They really standby the clients.

There are a lot of good things about this app but there is a huge problem. Owners take their time responding if at all then say the property is taken but shows on this app it is still open. The same rental is booked on other sites. Need to be held to quicker response times so people can book accordingly and not miss out on other properties.

She said because there system was working properly she couldn’t hold the property or take a payment. I contacted the owner only to find out property was then rented

VRBO has a hidden fee you are charged when you make your reservation. No where is this fee advertised, 9% of the total rental cost in my case. When I contacted owner thabout it they said they get none of that fee. My receipt from the owner states includes ALL fees but it does not. The word for this VRBO business practice is a shyster!
Also the location of the property i rented is completely wrong on the VRBO map. When I received info from owner, they stated they have no control over VRBO information.

Vrbo took my 659$ from me and won’t return it because of miscommunication between the host and the company please refrain from using this application I been told sooo many things and getting treated like it’s my fault
Very disappointed worth the changes; the amenities are now listed under each rental property and there is no way to enter what you’re looking for first (pet friendly, hot tub, bedrooms, price, number of people staying in home). Much easier searching when info is already in what you’re searching for.

Easy to book!
VRBO double booked 1/5
Vrbo didn’t notify me that our host had been messaging me through the website telling us that VRBO had somehow double booked the property and that it wouldn’t be available to us. I didn’t discover this until just one day before our trip when I logged into the website to make sure I had the address and information correct. This is when I found messages from the host telling me that there was a mistake and the property was in fact not available. Up until this point I had still been getting automated emails from VRBO headlined “get ready for your trip!” Now there are no available properties at our destination and we are left hung out to dry. Not to mention that the host also didn’t cancel the somehow double booked reservation until I asked him to which VRBO says will take 15 days to refund. Very nice situation I’ve been put in for our family vacation.

Vacation from June 7 through June 11th of 2023. Our family always goes to the Cancun and the Frio River area in the Hill Country of Texas. The Wrobleski family enjoys his outing and vacation in this area very much. It has been very easy to book through this company and this website. It is very easy to follow and to fill in the proper spaces that are required; plus it makes my job of booking a vacation, easy and very enjoyable. Very little stress to go through this app to book a vacation. I suggested to others who want to book a vacation to use this app. Everyone have great Summer Vacation and Book early. Accommodations for vacation go quickly. So I booked early so I can get a good location and a nice dwelling to spend my vacation.

The house was in less than par conditions for the stay. I’ve been in better hotel rooms in regards to cleanliness than this house. When I wrote the review on Vrbo for this house the owner retaliated by claiming that me and my family broke some things. Things we didn’t even touch. Things that were probably broken before we got there. They just wanted to file a claim to get the money. Shady people. Ants all over the place and a square pee pad that you would use in the hospital in the bed. Not a mattress protector. A pee pad for the dog on the floor. Then this guy keeps calling me messaging me and even fools the Vrbo rep into calling me. I felt violated harassed and unsafe. I will no longer use this app and stick to hotels. They are way safer.

I rented a house for a birthday getaway and the entire VRBO experience was a nightmare. Not only was there an additional contract from the owner, but I was locked out of the house in a snow storm and could not get in for more than an hour after I arrived. The owner wouldn’t answer and the VRBO reps dropped my call multiple times and wouldn’t provide transparent insight on a resolution. The final time they dropped my call, they never called me back.
Worse, the house wasn’t ready, was dirty and wasn’t plowed resulting in needing a $350 towing to get unstuck from the snow.

Tried different credit cards multiple times and kept getting the message “Credit card not authorized “. Called VRBO and was told to call my bank. Called my credit card company and they said the problem was not my card it’s on VRBO ‘s end. Chatted with John L and he was going to refer my case to Tech support. I tried a couple hours later and it finally went through. So thank you to whoever helped with the solution. This wasters over 2 hours of my time. Other than that I like the app.

VRBO just tells you to reach out to the scammer when they facilitate you gettin ripped off and says “we treasure renters and hosts”. Renters beware. It’s a cess pool. Google “VRBO scam” to learn much more
Rented a place in Punta Cana for six weeks. Seller did NOT tell us that 100 feet away, 30 new condos were being built. 7 days a week, dawn till dusk. Noise, saws and hammers . Vrbo didn’t care and seller did not care. Don’t go thru Vrbo!!!!!
