It's a great app to read novels
Optimized fonts? Really? 1/5
The font size on my iPad are now so small, I have to use a magnifier. Is there a way to roll back this update? Or should I just read in a browser?
I won’t be using this for a while 1/5
Cost too much money
Stole over 500 stones at one time!! 1/5
This stupid piece of garbage took over 500 spirit stones from me for no reason, at one time, it became over 1200 to 700 in one sitting this is not fair and stupid!
Love it! 5/5
I read every single day and I absolutely love the books!
This app fills a niche for Eastern novels English speaking audience, and is of a very high quality
Font size change 2/5
Some people like me actually need the font to be bigger. In the name of optimization, the biggest font is now similar to the previous smallest font. I don’t understand what aspect of this is considered optimization.
Fun new books 4/5
I like this app it's got one of my favorite books to read, bringing home the nations husband is amazing a must read! Plus they fixed the issue of being able to read chapters. You are limited to chapters unless you want to purchase them. I rather watch videos and log in every day to collect
Please check your app! 3/5
By CSI 12
At the beginning, the app was fine and I thought this was an awesome app. I am willing to pay to able to read next chapters. However, after awhile, the story that I am currently read needs sometime to update new chapters, that’s fine but whenever the app said new chapters release, I don’t see any new chapters at all and it keeps said new chapters are coming soon. I already paid to read new chapters and it were few days already. Why can’t I read new chapters?
Shot Themselves in the foot. 3/5
This app has a lot of translations, and most can be read without too much difficulty. However, they are still amateur level in my opinion, with poor grammar, typos, and simply incorrect terms being fairly common. They also implemented a system that requires in-app currency to read relatively recent chapters, which can be bought with money or gained incredibly slowly over time. I'm willing to watch ads for these locked chapters but I don't believe these chapters are worth money, and I very much dislike being forced to a rate of a few chapters a day when I haven't caught up to the translation yet. I'm only sticking around because I haven't found a site that translates the novel with a third of its chapters locked that I'm reading right now.
I love this app!!! 4/5
I really do like all of the stories on Webnovel, the way you can download stories and the fast release rate on all the stories. You can save all your stories in your library too. The only thing that I don’t like is that the limited amount of novels and the fact the you have to pay so many spirit stones for a chapter!!! It’s gone up to 12 spirit stones for one chapter?!?! That’s too much for me so I have to what for the normal chapters to be released which taking more then a few days even when the release rate is 21 chapters a week.
Best when waiting for anything or just reading
By no one to care about
What is going on? 1/5
The app has been having problems all day and I deleted it to reinstall it hoping that would help and now it won't let me log in and I had about 160+ spirit stones saved up. I'm about to go apeshit so I hope there's an update coming up because this is ridiculous.
New chapters notifications are duds. 2/5
Every time i get a notification that new chapters are available to read. When going to check my favorites there are no new chapters available at all. This app is great at reading novels that have been taken down from other websites because of whatever reason. Where the hell are those chapters?? That’s the only issue I have.
Good Content, Terrible Monetization, Spammy Comments 2/5
A big part of reading webnovels is that they update over time as they are being translated (or written, for those who read these in the original language) and the reader gets to look forward every day to reading that new morsel of story. The way that Qidian has monetized these novels is that popular novels are made ‘premium’ and in-app currency is used to gain access to the newest chapters. The chapters can still be read for free eventually, because they are released for free at half speed. So if a book is made premium at chapter 400, once premium chapter count is at 800, the first 600 chapters are free to read. Each chapter can cost 20-40 cents to read depending on the length. The problem is, once you are ahead of the free releases, if you want to stay completely up to date, you have to pay for every chapter. The free release rate doesn’t roll into the chapters that you buy. If a books premium release rate is 20 chapters a week and you pay to read 100 chapters ahead of the free releases ($10-$20), it will be two and a half months before you can read the next chapter without paying, and by then you’ll be 200 chapters further behind the premium releases, which is torturous for someone who really likes the book and wants to read it but can’t afford more of the in-app currency. An avid reader of that book which went premium at chapter 400 will end up paying between $160-320 by the time that book is at chapter 1200(and some of these books end up being 3000 chapters long). Can you imagine paying $300, or more, to read ONE BOOK? There are ways to get a little bit of free in-app currency once a day, usually enough to read one chapter, but even if you do it every day and only follow one book avidly the free currency will, at most, halve the cost. $150 to read one book is still prohibitively expensive.
Unless they change the system to make the bought chapters ‘roll’ with the free release rate, save yourself the trouble and just go to the library or buy some books. In the end, it will save you a lot of money. Download the app in a couple of years and by then there will be plenty of books that are completely translated and mostly or completely free. By then, you can binge read to your hearts content.
My other complaint is less important but the way the ‘level’ system is set up encourages users to comment as a way to get ‘experience points’. This ends up with popular books having hundreds of comments on each chapter, with the majority being spammy comments like ‘greetings from the EXP sect’. This makes what would have otherwise been a fun forum for discussion a worthless trip, as you have to trudge through piles of trash to find anything relevant to the actual content of the chapter.
Like... no love it. 5/5
It is a great app to use for reading novels. There are not that many novels on it but the ones on it are highly rated. It is so easy and convenient to use.
Cash grabbing greedy people 1/5
By Worthless cash grab
Has some great novels that migrated from wuxiaworld. But this has become a cash grab with the popular novels having little daily updates and endless amounts of locked chapters. I wouldn't mind paying a little bit to read ahead for the ones I like but this is ridiculous.
I rather read google translate and have been at this point.
Was decent now trash. 1/5
Used to be a decent app but they moved a bunch of content behind a paywall.
Can’t login without a verification code but I don’t have a verification code in my email. And logging in shouldn’t have a verification? What is the deal??
iPad version 2/5
I’m giving this a 2star coz the iPad version is pretty sad and depressing. I’ve been using this app on my android phone and decided to switch to ipad, hoping that it would be much better to read and navigate. Well I’m disappointed. I hope they make an ipad version of the app. Coz it’s actually the phone version with a zoom-in option; that’s it.
The Primpocalypse 1/5
Everything was fine, I’ve had this app since December of last year, until the update came. They essentially made it to where they broke chapters into many smaller chapters and are forcing users to spend more cash for each chapter. The chapters add up and money adds up. Basically punishing those who don’t have the funds to constantly drop money. They were getting ad rev for each ad view per extra chapter. They getting too greedy.
I'm glad to read novels where they are legally getting translated ^^
More please 5/5
I love the stories that y'all have great app
Downgrading 👎🏻 1/5
I downloaded the app after summer was over and had accumulated spirit stones for almost months until they decided to keep “updating” the app for bugs. Somehow my profile got deleted and I had to start from scratch. I emailed them about my issue but they NEVER got back to me. I gave up and decided to give this app one more try but soon after consecutive “updates” I noticed the spirit stones they were generously giving out were being reduced!!! And now we have the system were we can purchase spirit stones. This app turned greedy very fast. Their “updates” don’t do much seeing how they still have yet to fix add issues.
By Eternal Dark King
Overall a good app. I don’t know if it’s a mistake or not but some novel keep showing up in my library that I’ve never read. I don’t know what qidian is trying to pull here.
Good App, a few bugs 4/5
By Midget Slayer
The app allows you to keep a library of books and tracks your progress so you can return to where you left off, unfortunately there are some bugs that if you log on through your computer it will sync to your device but will not update if you read on your device so the chapter you stopped on does not update.
Experienced a bug today where the blue login screen keeps popping up and then closing then opening again and closing and it repeats indefinitely so I cannot do anything in the app.
New update 1/5
I am utterly disappointed in your newest update. Either get a monthly service or watch adds but don't make us pay to unlock each chapter. Everybody said Chinese novels going to qidian was a bad direction and you are literally proving that everything they said about you was correct.
Amateur Hour 1/5
I like the stories, and in general the translations are very good. This app however ... was obviously created, and is updated, by someone with no experience creating this kind of thing. Login issues, problems with adds not playing, or freezing, or not registering as played, occasional random loss of bookmarks, almost no real functionality other than a very basic text reader ... they desperately need to pay a real app designer to fix this travesty.
Premium chapters bug out. It skips past the chapter going left, but I have to swipe through the previous chapter to reach it from then left going right. Can’t select it with the arrows. I could probably use the table of contents though. But still, it’s annoying. Otherwise, good app!
“New” broken 4/5
The notifications for new updates are messed up. Latest updates says my books have new chapters but my library doesn’t have the notifications. Or Half way reading a chapter the app sends a notification that there is an update, to the book I am reading and it is the same chapter. And can the latest updates show more than just the last 9? Maybe all updates in the last 2 hours.
I like it
The best rabbit hole 5/5
This app has been the best time well spent
Love it!! 5/5
Love to read and this app is non stop wonderful stories!!!
Although this app doesn't have a huge selection the selection is constantly increasing every week and the quality of the translation is the best I've ever seen.
By avid reader desh
Used to be able to read up to 2 chapters a day for the series's I'm reading. If need be, I could watch an ad to get an extra 2 chapters. Now must pay 7-8 per chapter and so that the payers get ahead, only 1 chapter is released at a time. Originally, authors stated that payers would only be 10 chapters ahead but they are over 20 now. Seems more ridiculous and miserly then allowing ads. Also, app cannot seem to remember where I was. When it crashes, it asks if I want to synchronize to a chapter that was over 20 chapters and counting behind my current spot. Needs some bugs fixed and stop nickel and dime-ing readers.
It's ok but not great 3/5
If you don't buy you can't read the newest chapters, which are locked.
By The things!
👍🏻👍🏻this app is great!
Nice app 5/5
Very nice app. Good stories to read and keep the mind going!
Somewhere between one and two stars. 2/5
At first I enjoyed the smoothness of this app. I often read other Asian story translations, and ads that cause pop ups even on mobile are rampant. This app offered a welcome relief to this. Unfortunately the company that owns this property, Qidian is known for shady business practices and I was warned of problems that would occur with monetization of previously free content. This has now come to pass.
Not only is the new update a buggy mess, it is impossible to read some of the newest releases without paying currency. The stories that require currency seem to no longer release ad supported chapters. The last 16 chapters at least of Immortal Mortal are monetized without the option to watch an ad instead. Even worse, on mobile it directly kicks you out of the app once you try to go to a chapter that requires you to pay currency. I'm severely disappointed in the drop in quality and the paid content that has been added to this website.
Added to this is a rating system that has been compromised by vote rigging by a new novel. Not that many people seem to read it, but it is far and away the most votes novel on the site. It is deplorable that the website does not address this issue as it causes problems with trust in the system.
In conclusion the recent trend is webnovels is downward with rare instances of good translations. I don't recommend this to anybody because it is likely that it will only get worse in time. I hope the Wuxiaworld builds a good app for their content because I would much rather read on their site. The only thing holding them back from rapid expansion is a negative mobile experience.
No ads was a bad decision 1/5
By guy that wants the old system
I have been using this service for almost as long as the app has been on the market and I have to say that for the most part I had no problems. I had no problem watching ads and logging on daily to be able to pay with the in app currency for extra chapters. There were a few times I was forcefully logged out and it forgot the chapter I was on but that is a minor problem. After the latest update novels that I used to be able to read daily I can no longer read at all because of the ridiculous amount of in app currency (around 3-5 and you only get between 6-8) a day) has to be paid to read what was originally one chapter now split into 15-20 chapters with each part costing the full chapter. I can no longer continue the series because it is not in my own interest to buy 1/20th of a chapter for what I can just watch an ad or use the currency on other novels to receive the full chapter and not something that could be posted as a tweet in length. Just go back to the old system or people will spend less and less time on the app therefore losing your own source of revenue.
Complete Crap 1/5
By blehh blehhh
It made since to charge 4 stones or watch adds to read the new chapters, but now it doesn’t makes since on why they are charging 7+ stones and we can’t watch ads anymore to read the chapters.
Love the stories 4/5
By brian chou
The stories are so interesting. It is addicting. I can't stop reading. I do wish that the stories are all free.
Don’t download this app 1/5
The creators of this app are too greedy no need for an app like this. The translation are not that great.
I wrote a bunch of stuff but it didnt save so ill try and keep this brief. A new update that created a pseudo paywall that punishes people who are unable to pay for in game currency to use on the now pseudo locked most popular novels newest chapters. What used to cost 4 in app currency mow cost 8-16. You used to be able to watch an ad to get a chapter for these novels but that was removed. They plan to re add it in a form to milk more money off of people. Lastly the update broke the new chapters as they crash when you select them for these novels. They broke a good system that was fair for both parties do to their greed. Everything can still be used for free, but the time spent having to jump through hoops that they havant implemented has drastically increased. So not only is this a greedy and unfair update that came without warning or any proper explanation, but it is also incomplete and broke parts of their app.
Qidian if you read this i suggest you revert back to the previous system. I and many others are not against watching ads or even paying when we can and want, but this is ridiculous. Dont be greedy and essentially mug your user base.
Spirit Stones makes this app unusable 1/5
The old system which you used to be able to read the new chapters by watching advertisements is so much better than this new one. First they double the spirit stone cost to view the chapter and they remove the option to watch an ad. I don’t normally make reviews but this is clearly a money grubbing attempt by qidian international to force users into buying spirit stones through the new microtransaction system
A problem with reading 4/5
When I scroll down to go to the next chapter, it takes me all the way to the end instead. This is extremely annoying and junior here is hoping for a fix in a future update
Not compatible with ipad 1/5
This app isn’t compatible with ipad .fix it pleaseeee😭
