Not able to play downloaded videos 1/5
Not able to play downloaded videos when wifi and LTE are off.
What’s the point of downloading the videos when you cant watch them when you have no internet access.
Downloads continue over cellular 1/5
Started downloading a bunch of videos while on WiFi. The downloads continued after I dropped off the WiFi onto cellular. Drained 5GB of my data plan. Terrible user experience.
Missing Video Filters 2/5
Previously it was possible to view videos with a filter, so you could see favorited videos that haven’t been watched from a specific year, for example. This made it very easy to see what videos you still have to watch, but now it’s either not possible or I can’t find it in the UI, which I suppose is just as bad. The rest of the app seems good so I think it was just missed. Hopefully this gets added back to the video section.
Speed controls 3/5
The app is not bad but the interface is interface is is very cluttered and there is no way to speed up the video. Of the two, I’d forgive the interface issues if I could speed through the video at 1.5 or 2x’s, slowing down for the sections that are new and unfamiliar.
Right now I’m watching the videos in WebPlayer off the developer site and marking them as viewed in the WWDC app, in the hope that someday the dawn will break, the birds will sing, and most significantly of all, the app will allow me to speed up video.
No Search?? 1/5
So sad that this app doesn't support search or filtering of the sessions. It used to support them 😬
No Horizontal Video 1/5
You can’t watch videos in horizontal orientation on iPhone. Because that somehow makes sense. 🤦🏻♂️
2018 Destroyed a good 2017 WWDC app 1/5
By Law reviewer
The new 2018 version of this WWDC app is about useless on my iPad. It violates many of Apple’s own human interface rules!
First, none of the session titles are visible (they are cut off). Second, they now use that silly (unprofessional looking) horizontal scroll where there is full bleed on the right margin. It makes it harder for the user to feel they have situational awareness of what is on the screen. Third, it is cluttered now with glyphs — we have spent 3000 years advancing from hieroglyphics — they are nice to have in small doses, but not a screen full of dozens of them. We could go on, but the overall user experience is a huge step backward last year’s app. Now, I’ve lost a great library app for all the videos through WWDC 2017. The programming idiosyncrasies of the app programming libraries are shining through in a most unpleasant way. Wow, did not expect this for the flagship app.
Very good program,
Maybe reverse how Schedule was done 4/5
I liked the last year Schedule better. This one is a bit weird / confusing to use. Other felt more natural. I want to keep switching between Sessions and Starred Sessions but then I have to scroll back and forth
Downloaded this app with hope to catch some technology news but after reading in the “Venue Reminders” from June 4th about the all gender restroom and the lack of a fathers room to mirror the “mothers room” available I decided I can get the news I’m looking for elsewhere.
Needs ‘feedback’ part 4/5
By wwdc attendee
I think there should be a way, in the app, during the meeting, to provide feedback. Eg, on the minimal coffee service and the lack of promised breakfast on Tues.
Great update for watching WWDC VDOs 5/5
The disappearing Nav Bar bug has now been fixed. Downloaded VDOs now appear correctly under downloaded filter. VDOs are more organized, easier to navigate and find. This update makes WWDC a great app to learn WWDC materials on iPad once again, minimizing the need to download VDOs from Mac then send to my iPad via iTunes.
It would be great to have a History menu to view recently watched VDOs.
Please keep access to older VDOs (2014 and up is fine) since they still have immense value especially for introduction to APIs I haven’t learned or used previously.
— Previous Review: Frustrated with navigation —
When you search VDOs in WWDC app, the navigation bar would completely disappear and it would not be possible to go back to browse VDOs without a force-quit. This gets increasingly frustrating, since it has been months since I reported the issue to Apple, twice, and it’s still not fixed.
Otherwise, WWDC as an app for browsing VDOs and learning the materials, it’s a great app for this purpose. I will change my rating to 5 stars once this gets fixed.
Best place to find all the developer videos, very useful. Would be good to have a Mac app 🤩
Session Times 2/5
Anyone who is going to be there & not currently in California time zone would appreciate appreciate option to see the session times in California time instead of having to translate them in their head.
For those outside of your time zone it is very annoying!!!
(I first wrote this review years ago)
Where is the filter (video)??!!
Wonderful update 5/5
The new revamped app is great for navigation and finding exactly what you need.
Update loses video 2/5
The update looks fine, but again orphans all the downloaded video. It’s still taking up a ton of space, but almost none of them show as downloaded or available to play in the UI. It requires deleting and re-installing the app, and then re-downloading all the video again. Just really sloppy.
Great organization improvement 5/5
The new technology category organization is pretty awesome. Looking forward to attending next week!
Great app... if you don’t search 3/5
After you search, the navigation bar disappears and you can’t search for another video until you force quit the app.
By Chuy @ Sacramento CA
No back button on filtered screen 3/5
Guys, it’s impossible to go back to previous screen after choosing any video on search result screen. There is no navigation bar.
Would like to see an option to speed up videos 4/5
There’s a lot of videos to watch. I’d like to see the option to speed them up so I don’t have to sit through all of them.
There we go... 1/5
Apple at its best.. write crappy code that never gets properly finished. This app is an insult to quality software. It does not work properly, and never really did. Some of the problems remained for SEVERAL YEARS in a row (like the pb with 2 videos playing at the same time, or the pbs with the unreliable downloads) ... this is a disgrace.
Still not support iPhone X 2/5
It’s been more than a week since iPhone X launch day, but this WWDC app is still compiled by Xcode 8, not full screen on iPhone X. Ironically, Apple uses WWDC app as an example to teach iOS developers how to program for iPhone X. I believe it’s unacceptable for Apple to have apps not adapting to their flagship product.
Filtering downloaded does not work 1/5
By Oleg Naumenko
Filtering to only see what has been downoladed gives no result
By Little dream world
I usually very love everything from Apple, but now I will change my mind, because I am so upset every time everything after the new IOS update, there a lot of the apps and information are gone, also not working properly as same as before, the Apple development is making changes a lot, will not recommend people to buy apple products anymore
Excellent implementation 5/5
This app exemplifies iOS best practices.
The user is able to multitask while still enjoying the video content. This is a feature missing from many of my favorite video apps.
E.g. Video continues to play via airplay even after pressing home button, allowing me to take notes for example while still watching the video.
Also, I am able to put the display to sleep which allows me to save battery, while still playing video.
Awesome app 5/5
Nice job with the home 🏡 pod apple 🍎💻⌚️📱📲💻⌨️🖥🔌🔋📡
Really needs utility affordances 2/5
By Chris Pt
This is a LOT of content. Most modern video-and audio-consumption apps have playback speed controls which are essential for something like this. In a similar vein, since the info here can be a little dense, it's important to be able to scroll forward and backwards in the video. Since the scrubber doesn't tell you which timestamp you've scrolled to, this is a painfully slow and frustrating operation in this app: you need to try to judge how many scrubber pixels equals how many seconds of video, and even when you think you have it, releasing your finger from the scrubber causes it to jump somewhere else.
WWDC presentations are some of the most important documentation the community relies on: they elucidate the documentation and sometimes even contain information not available or not at all clear from the docs. Crafting this tool around that crucial need, and around the fact that this is reference material, would certainly pay off in terms of the quality of the app ecosystem.
Please support download during only wifi connection. 1/5
It've started downloading when it's connected at the Wifi. Then moving out without wifi, it use all of my cellphone data with watching already downloaded contents. It's terrible. The cellular company already charged over $100. I had to join the other data plan.
Please support a option to control download wifi only.
No floating video windows? 4/5
It's incredible to have so much valuable data organized so well in one app, thank you APPLE!
This is the standard by which other companies should hold their conference libraries to. They provide great labeling, easy accessibility and wonderfully direct, short and sweet presentations.
I'm able to switch WWDC to the background while it's audio continues to play, allowing me to take care of work and enjoy the presentations at the same time. Brilliant. Plain and simple.
Many companies throw together conference video library navigation interfaces for the web or apps, without showing much thought to the value of what the material is and how it will be accessed. Apple remains beyond reproach on this.
My only request would be a floating video window.
I've been listening to the presentations for the last two weeks at work nonstop. Thank you.
No slides 3/5
Thanks for letting us download the videos. But I wish you had a download link for the slides the way you do on the wwdc site.
This is abreast way to get updated in the apple world and recap on the latest technology from APPLE!!!!!! Highly Suggested
Great way to experience conference virtually 5/5
By My Night Sight
This app has been getting better each year, and having the ability to download conference sessions to my device and take them with me is fantastic.
1) In the "Favorites" view of Videos, group by year. While it is nice to see my favorites from previous years, being able to distinguish the current set would be helpful
2) Bring back closed captions. May not be ready yet, but I miss them when I can't turn up the audio.
Please add skip fwd/back 10 seconds! 4/5
There are dozens of times when I missed something and need to skip back or forward just a bit to take another look at the code or to search for a particular part of a video. This is probably the only app where I've needed these skips while watching video more than any other video app! Other than that, the app is getting better, keep up the good work.
By Mardy Tardy
I love this app. I get all the news I missed! All the people below that say needs ios 10.3 or iCloud stuff or blah blah blah, are dumb. This app is amazing. I will rate all apple apps 5 star even if there are bugs, which there are non in this one. I LOVE THIS APP!
No support for iOS 9 1/5
Doesn't work on IOS 9 devices.
No content available on older devices 1/5
Version 6 of this app requires iOS 10 which is not available for any of my iDevices. The new WWDC 2017 content is not available in the previous version of the WWDC app that runs on my devices. **UPDATE:** A few days after writing this review, Apple completely disabled access to all content from previous years as well. So the previous version of the app still running on my devices no longer has access to any content at all and the current version of the app doesn't run on any of my devices. I don't understand that decision at all. One day, I had access to all content from previous years. The next day, without any changes to the apps running on my devices, I didn't have access to any content at all.
Filled up my storage 1/5
After trying to download 10 videos, my storage filled up 10GB but impossible to play the videos, I deleted the app and my storage is still full, even after a reboot.
Bugs everywhere 1/5
If you get to playing a live stream too early the app crashes
Only some videos will download
Downloaded videos will not play
Requires IOS 10 1/5
I was unable to watch the new keynote so I downloaded this app to find out that it does not work on iOS 9.
Like the content, but.... 2/5
Think the content is great, and ability to watch videos, set favorites. One infuriating bug or feature is the auto scroll on the schedule. Every time I favorite a session, it auto scrolls to a previously selected session forcing me to scroll back down to the times I was trying to look at.
Cant download videos 1/5
Download icon shows in list view, but doesn't work.
iOS 10.3 required 1/5
Please support devices that aren't on the latest minor version yet.
Worst Apple App ever!! 1/5
Cloud icon to download is visible, however not able to download the content. Cells are not getting refreshed, so cloud icon is always visible after scrolling down then up.
Other UI issues as well. Come on Apple. Developers expect more from you guys!
Thank You 3/5
I haven't been able to go to WWDC for the past 2 years, but now I'm so happy to be able to watch the videos from the sessions right away. This makes it so nice for developers who can't make it to the conference. Much appreciated Apple!
UPDATE: This year the app crashes whenever I try to view a live session. I'm very disappointed by this. ☹️
YET ANOTHER UPDATE: The 2017 videos are not being added to the app as quickly as the 2016 videos were added last year. I feel like this WWDC app and experience for those developers not able to attend the conference in person is a step backwards from the year before.
Update wiped all data but fixed 5/5
Worked until session names changed after keynote. Now every screen is blank. Update: delete, hard reset and reinstall fixed.
Crashes constantly 1/5
I tapped on the state of the union in the calendar, tapped on watch, and the app crashed.
I tried to download the video. The app crashed.
Same for the keynote.
Made by Apple? 3/5
Surprised this was made by Apple. Nice clean design but low quality video, and I'm using an iPhone 6S Plus!
When watching a live video, app crashes 3/5
By Christopher Hillman
I wanted to see The Platform State of the Union, and when it went live, I tapped on the event in the schedule and when I tapped watch live, the app crashed, therefore unable to watch the event. However, while watching on-demand videos from previous events, there is no problem.
